I’ve wanted Gunnar forever … and it’s time for him to see that I’m not a kid anymore. I grew up in Hell’s Ankhor and even though I’m twenty-five they all still see me as Ankh and Priest’s kid. Especially Gunnar. The Sargent has known me for years and watched me grow up. I would give anything to have him see me as the man I’ve become instead of the scrawny boy I used to be, but it’s never going to happen. I need to face the fact that Gunnar will never be mine, but when a devastating revelation sweeps through the club and cuts me to the core, he’s the one I turn to. And just when it seems like things might change between us a threat from a rival MC puts me in the crosshairs...

I kind of liked this, but I have some complaints!

The story is about Raven and Gunnar. Raven is the son of the two founders of their Motorcycle Club, and Gunnar is one of the enforcers. Gunnar has watched Raven grow up ever since he was little, and when he started seeing Raven in a different light once he turned 18, he didn’t know what to do with those feelings. He felt like a creep, he felt undeserving, so he distanced himself from Raven in hopes to get rid of his attraction. Meanwhile, Raven had been crushing on Gunnar ever since he was a teenager and he was devastated when Gunnar suddenly started pushing him away.
Now, a couple years later, Raven has returned from college and he has lost one of his fathers. Amongst all the grief and uncertainties, his relationship with Gunnar is still difficult. Both still feel an intense attraction, but will Gunnar ever give in to it?

Having him close to me changed me, turned me into a more desperate, animal version of myself. Something I’d been keeping down, locked away, far away from the daylight for many years. A weakness. A weakness in that I’d do anything he asked of me.
This was different than the family loyalty I carried for Hell’s Ankhor, and not the blind obedience I’d had in the Marines. It was a terrifying, bone-deep knowledge that I’d do almost anything to ensure he was safe and happy. I’d treated him so badly in the past, and he’d had such a rough go at life—and now, I’d do anything he asked if it’d help him recover from the ordeal I’d put him through.
And that kind of power—even if he didn’t realize he had it—was enough to scare me shitless. I’d be left unmoored, completely adrift, if he ever decided to let me go.
Maybe it wasn’t just him I’d been protecting all these years when I was keeping my distance.

Overall, I enjoyed the premise of this story. I liked the dynamic these two had with each other, and I saw a lot of potential. However, in the end, it didn’t completely end up working for me for two main reasons:
1) There was too much inner-monologue. Too much time was spent inside these two’s heads rather than with any dialogue or actual events happening. That was a little boring and it also made it difficult to truly get into the story.
2) I didn’t like how incredibly insecure Gunnar felt. I love a good push-and-pull, but Gunnar was ‘pushing’ a lot, and sometimes I got a little annoyed with it.

“You think I don’t know who you are?” I said nothing. Raven pinned me with his passionate, furious gaze. “I think you’re a jackass who’s been jerking me around for years, making me think he liked me, and then turning around and ignoring me and fucking other people in front of me. Treating me sweet one minute and cruel the next. I think you’re a guy who’s been causing me a hell of a lot of emotional whiplash.”
This was what I wanted, right? I’d wanted Raven to use some common sense and see that I wasn’t worth any of his time. But the thought of him getting up and walking out the door cut through me so painfully it left me breathless.

Nonetheless, I look back on this book with an okay feeling and I quite like it, even though I do think this book could have been a lot better had some things been done differently!

I wanted him. All of him. I wanted him in my bed every night and to wake up to him every morning. I wanted to protect him, take care of him, learn from him. I wanted to be his Old Man.

Oooh, how inappropriate they thought this was. I honestly only intended to skim my way through this but this turned out to be way more captivating than I expected. I loved it.

“Come here.” He led me to his bike.
“Really? On the bike, really?”
“Indulge me.”

The late president’s son and the club’s sergeant-at-arms. The kid that grew up in the club, his dads the club’s prez and VP and the then enforcer he had a serious crush on for years. Raven wants Gunnar to finally see him as a man, not a kid, and Gunnar feels like a creep when he suddenly does. He’s fighting his attraction for years then, breaking Raven’s heart over and over in the process.

But Gunnar feels not only that he’s somehow betraying the faith the club leaders put into him by lusting after their son but with his past he also does not feel deserving of someone like Raven.

“Whatever this is between us, it’s not about being deserving. I’m not a prize. You don’t have to prove anything.”

But then things get really interesting when Raven fucks up and brings himself in serious danger.

“Where are you?” I asked again. Raven didn’t answer. His breathing was fast and shallow, like he was hurting. “You gotta talk to me, baby.” I closed my eyes like if I listened hard enough, I could deduce where he was. “I’ll come get you. It’s all gonna be okay. You just gotta tell me where you are, okay?”

Uhngg, this “baby” shit gets me every fucking time. *swoon

These books don’t have epilogues because the story is kind of ongoing but I love that the very last chapter of each book is from one of the next mc’s POV. It def makes you excited for the next one. Clever move, dear authors. Clever move.

side note: none of these books (after the first) addresses the topic of safe sex. No condoms are used nor do they talk about it. Sadly that’s why none of them can reach a higher rating than four stars from me. No idea what happened here since the couple in the first book did use condoms without question.

This second book in the series was a step up from the first. There’s now a larger plot arc been revealed that will likely span across several books and the characters are becoming more familiar. If you’re a fan of MC books and a lover of MM, then I can see these becoming a guilty pleasure for a lot of readers.

But for myself I found myself frustrated again at the sheer amount of push and pull between the two MC’s. As with the first book, there’s way too much “he likes me, he doesn’t like me, he can’t like me, I won’t let him like me, he kissed me but it doesn’t mean anything, he blew me but it doesn’t mean anything” bullshit. For me, this kind of thing waters down the budding tension, instead of ramping it up. I’m not saying that men shouldn’t have feelings of self-doubt, but it felt like filler, as opposed to natural doubt and confusion.

But when they finally get there, the sex is fairly fast, sweet, but not overly descriptive. If I could sum up this book in a few sentences it would be
“I love you,” I said.
His breath caught. “I love you, too.”
He dropped more kisses on my hips, nuzzling me affectionately. “I’m sure I’ll fuck up a lot,” I said. “But I’m not going anywhere. Not ever.”
“Gunnar,” Raven murmured. “Let me blow you.”
Will I read the next one? Yeah, probably. :)

Again, really enjoyed this installment of the Hell's Ankhor series!

Still cliched, still predictable from pretty much page one, but enjoyable nonetheless.

I liked Gunnar and Raven together, even though it took them forever to get their act together - the Bake Off part was my favourite, the fact that Gunnar the enforcer knew about Bread Week just endeared me to his character.

Still enjoying getting to know all of the characters better but I still think they're all far too nice, and the action has been pretty tame so far - but I am basing that off my experience of watching Sons of Anarchy and I'm pretty sure that desensitised me to a lot!

This book had me frustrated initially because Raven who was supposed to be the smartest was also the most reckless and despite wanting to be treated like an adult, had a lot of growing up to do.

Gunnar was also doing the whole "I'm older and not good enough" spiel which made me want to pull my hair out.

However, wonder of all wonders, these two managed to get themselves on the right path and everything worked out in the end.

Rebel's book is next and I cannot wait!!

"We've got to treasure any moment of happiness we get. Even when it seems to come at the wrong time. I'd say especially when it's the wrong time."

✅ Motorcycle club, second chance, age gap, violence, spicy, found family, former Marines. ✅

"He solved problems with his intellect, I solved problems with my fists."

So, the second book was definitely better than the first. We have more action, more development of the story (not only the love story, but also about the MC clubs).

Gotta admit I was yet again frustrated at one point. There was again too much inner monologue and too much push and pull between the two. But somehow I found it necessary in order to portray the feelings of Gunnar. Reason for that: well maybe I tried to understand Gunnar and Raven more than Logan and Blade.

There is one thing I didn't like and that is the way Gunnar acted after Raven came back from college. But well, things are not always black and white.

Overall it was a good book. And I will definitely read the next book, just really hoping it wouldn't have so much push and pull, I want to do that, but oh wait I won't, but I want and back and forth. /Hmm here am I doing almost the same. Talking about the frustrating part of the book and yet again moving to the next. These books have a way to hook you up, even when annoying you at times. 😉❤️ You want to read the story of the next couple, because all of them are a family, but not only./

Raven has been pining after Gunnar for as long as he could remember and now that he might finally have his chance at Gunnar seeing him as something other than a kid — he’s going to take it. But, between Gunnar being stubborn and Raven following a lead about his father’s death...heartbreak might be all he gets.

I didn’t read the first book which was a mistake...I didn’t exactly feel lost while reading this but I felt like I couldn’t had a deeper appreciation for the story and the characters. As for the relationship in this — I liked it. The whole son of the biker group and the man you want but can’t have thing worked for me a lot. These two definitely have to work for things to go there way and it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows.

If you want something a little angst ridden, hot and steamy and enough action to keep you hanging on them I’d recommend this one.

i am on the fence on if i like this series or if i am eh about it. there are parts of this story that kept me gripped to each moment and others had me rolling my eyes.

Gunner and Raven... I enjoyed Ravens character but honestly i felt like it was the same back and forth internal conflict throughout the whole book that it was just annoying.

I want to find a good action packed MC MM romance and i saw all of these had good reviews, but I am not sure if these are for me.

Still on the fence to continue or not.

mhmm yes, pining? me likey.

Unfortunately, the plot felt like an afterthought. They only found out something in the beginning and then again approaching the climax, which I think is why there are so many reviews complaining about the endless back-and-forth of he likes me, he likes me not, as nothing of note plot-wise happens for like half of the book.

I'm also mad at Hell's Ankhor because apparently, whatever Rebel does, they treat him like crap. Like, ugh he's a viper, so he's scum. Ugh, he's turning on the vipers so he's a traitor and even more scum. bruh, what the hell do you want him to do???
Rebel is my favorite character so far but even though he's the main character in the next book, I'm not sure if I'm going to read it if Hell's Ankhor's awful treatment of him is going to continue like this because that would be too infuriating.

Raven grew up in the club, but he's no longer a child and he's tired of everyone, especially Gunnar, treating him as if he's still one. He wants to find out what happened with his father, and if no one wants to help him, he'll do it on his own. He's smart and resourceful, and quite capable of it. And he's decided he's done with trying to get Gunnar's attention. One rejection is enough, thank you very much!

I loved this installment of this MC series! Raven and Gunnar are a great couple once Gunnar finally withdraws his head from his rear and goes and declares his feelings. The angsty back and forth was a bit much sometimes, and more than once I wanted to shake Gunnar for his hot and cold ridiculousness, but Raven gave as good as he got and is the perfect match for rough around the edges Gunnar. I'm not sure whose story is next, but I know for sure I will be reading it as soon as it's released.

3.5 stars. I’ll be honest I was a bit disappointed by this one. The first book with Blade and Logan felt so explosive and thrilling. I was hoping this one would carry that on and maybe even build on it.

In the first book we get a glimpse of the tension between Gunnar and Raven. It’s thick and agonising, the two kept apart by Gunnar’s apprehension over the large age gap and the fact that Raven is his bosses’ son.

Most of the book is a push and pull, back and forth of angst. They both want each other but every step forward is one step back. Normally I love that, the emotions leap off the page but something about it just annoyed me. It fell flat and didn’t feel like it was building properly. I can’t quite put my finger on it but it just didn’t do it for me.

The sex scenes were well written and sexy but not hot hot on fire fanning myself that I felt with the first book. It was more like oh good they’re finally boning.

The overlying plot of Raven trying to find out his father’s murderer was maybe a little too distracting for me too. It was definitely necessary for closure; I think that the way all the elements were woven together just didn’t make this book what I was hoping but that’s down to personal preference.

Not a badly written book by any means, and I think most people who liked book one will enjoy it.

Hmpf. This wasn't totally bad but I really expected more.
The story starts out with a murder investigation and for a few chapters that really had me hooked. And then it just fizzles out. There is a dead end, then a whole lot of nothing happens, and in the end an outside tip solves everything nicely. Ugh.
Within the whole lot of nothing, the romance happens, but I wasn't all that happy on that front either. Raven has been in love with Gunnar for years, but been rejected. I get that part. Gunnar has secretly loved Raven as well all these years but decided to stay away to allow Raven to find a better life or something. Okaaay. But they do get together and it's clear that they both couldn't find anyone else worthy in all those years, but still the whole book is full of anxious circling thoughts of self doubt. As soon as he grows tired of me, as soon as he knows about my past, as soon as someone better comes along, as soon as he comes to his senses this will all be over. Ugh. That stopped being interesting pretty quickly.
What I really enjoyed is the club as a whole, the familylike atmosphere and all the different characters hanging around. Fun banter and antics to watch.

The second book in the series, many things are discovered regarding the activities of Viper's Nest and Luke.

My theory that Luke would reappear to help came true, what I didn't count on was that he was a policeman, that was a surprise. As for Raven and Gunnar, I was a little annoyed by how repetitive their inner thoughts were, always circulating around the same thing over and over again. Also the fact that Gunnar was worried about the approval of Priest and the others without realizing that everyone already knew and agreed with him and Raven being together.

To be a sergeant-at-arms, whose job is to be aware of his surroundings and possible threats, he is very clueless and oblivious 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

Anyway, the books was good and I'm excited for the next

Blade book one in the Hell's Ankhor series was such a good story with angst, drama and of course a bit of love. When I found out book two was about Raven and Gunner, I was super excited because I felt like their story had so much potential, but it just fell flat. There were several times when things were repeated unnecessarily, or they were mentioned in passing in an understated way that didn't need to be said again. Plus, I felt like Gunner was way too hard on himself about his feelings for Raven, yes there was a past and he didn't feel worthy but those things can only be said so many times before it becomes redundant.

Even with all of that, once Gunner and Raven finally got out of their own heads their story was such a beautiful one of unresolved feelings and love. The actual meat of the story with the truth about Ankh coming out was really good. Even the bit of a "plot twist" that I saw coming from a mile away was done so well that the fact I saw it coming did not even bother me. Worth reading to get to the next book which is Rebel's and I feel like that story is going to be the most intriguing yet.

I’ve been eagerly waiting for Raven and Gunnar’s story but was it worth the wait? Hell yeah!

There were times I wanted to smack Gunnar for opening his mouth and putting his foot in it. Gunnar took a while to sort himself out but when he finally did, the fireworks that followed, were definitely worth it.

Raven was stubborn and determined. However, Gunnar’s rejection and behaviour towards him left him feeling insecure and unworthy. His vulnerability bleed through the cracks when he sat down with Gunnar to talk.

A fantastic addition to the series. Rebel’s story is next and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it won’t be a long wait.

It must be hard to watch a child grow up in front of you into a gorgeous young man and then realise that you have feelings for him when he reaches the age that he starts having feelings for you and starts to flirt with you! Because that's what's been happening for in denial Sargent Gunnar who is then struggling to hide is attraction to the former 'club baby' Raven, who at 25 is no longer a baby! They both know there's attraction between them and so do their club mates.

Aiden Bates and Ali Lyda have taken this difficult storyline, which has potential for awkwardness and made it flow although with a great slow burn to keep the reader turning the pages with want and anticipation for the next move. This book is another emotional rollercoaster that winds the two lane highway outside the clubhouse they live in!!

These boys have me living on my emotions throughout the books; it's like I'm their mum! I feel their pain, their love for each other, their anger, fear, joy, sadness; I cry my eyes out and laugh out loud, I'm so involved my family think I'm mad! I love that there's a message about an issue be it domestic abuse, substance abuse, alcohol abuse, hate crime; it's there in the text saying it's not ok and it should be dealt with and there's always someone to support you.

I loved this book as I have the others; This is definitely aimed at adult readers with adult content! Scenes between the sheets, against the walls, in the kitchen, or wherever are hot and sexy and between men! If you don't like that don't read these books!!!

I'm totally recommending it to you xx

Nop. Nop y Nop!

No! No en mi caso!

Book 2: Gunnar and Raven

Contains: motorcycle club members, a geek who investigates the death of his father, a member who was trying not to succumb to his desires to the boss's son.

I love this kind of book where there are puzzles and the reader has all kinds of scenarios in his head and tries to connect the dots together.

I like the story. The first half of the book lacked a bit of interest and you don't really know where you're going. But everything comes together when the other members are included. Important key: family values.

And THIS serie take a suddent Whiplash!!! What a TWIST. I am so involved in this serie. Sooo curious to see where it goes next. I am HOOKED!!!!
