Glitz, Glamour, and Deadly Decisions
Every decision has a consequence. Some can be deadly...

Lily Cartwright has been trained to obey and protect her criminal father, but deep inside her anger grows. The chains of duty shatter when she learns of her father's plans to marry her to a sociopathic killer. Now she must decide just how far she's willing to go for freedom and justice.

Jason Jae protects life; he instinctively steps up to save an abused waitress in a high-end night club, unaware her father controls the local crime syndicate and she's in far more danger than meets the eye. In a fleeting moment, they see through the glamour and form a connection they cannot break, unleashing a storm of desires.

The last thing Jason’s family expects is for the quiet conservationist to protect a dangerous criminal runaway. Now Jason has to convince everyone, including Lily, that she’s worth saving. But can he do it before the death toll rises?

Carol Tate is the author of Heartbeat, and Take Down and has a Diploma in Applied Writing. She writes thrillers for her ever-elusive sanity surrounded by friends, family, chaos and rescues.

Living in Canterbury, New Zealand, she has four cats, three children, one dog, and dozens of stories to write. Her sister calls her crazy, she agrees. She's been broken down and put herself back together, becoming more determined than ever to follow her dreams. Her father always said she was a thrill-seeker growing up, so it shouldn't be a surprise that when told to make things worse for her characters, things became deadly dangerous. She still enjoys a good action movie or a day at the motorsport, but also enjoys a quiet life reading, raising children, writing and traveling. She refuses to shy from dark topics, lives with a rare disease, and yet remains positive that happily ever after does exist. Flagged as the first book in the Kiwi Falls Series, TAKE DOWN is part crime, part thriller, big part violent erotica that comes with a trigger warning for abuse, torture and sexual assault.

From the blurb:

"Lily Cartwright has been trained to obey and protect her criminal father, but deep insider her anger grows. The chains of duty shatter when she learns of her father's plans to marry her to a sociopathic killer. Now she must decide just how far she's willing to go for freedom and justice."

Alongside Lily's story is that of Jason Jae:

"Jason Jae protects life; he instinctively steps up to save an abused waitress in a high-end night club, unaware her father controls the local crime syndicate and she's in far more danger than meets the eye. In a fleeting moment, they see through the glamour and form a connection they cannot break, unleashing a storm of desires".

That should give you a pretty good idea of the setup of this novel that, to be frank, is extremely violent, extremely detailed in places, and quite a discomforting, disconcerting read. Whether or not the use of the extreme torture, abuse and sexual assault is justified, or particularly useful to the story is very much going to be the individual choice of readers.

Definitely a YMMV experience, and one for which the trigger warnings are very pertinent.

The author, CAROL Tate introduces the Heroine Lily and the very evil villains who are her family in an intense first chapter followed quickly by the introduction of Jason Jae, Lily's hero. The action and suspense pick up quickly in chapter two and doesn't stop as Lily and Jason fight to save their lives and the lives of the rest of the Jae family. The very detailed descriptions that Carol uses to describe all the action, and there is a lot of violent action in this book, will have you wanting to know what happens next right to the end. An intense read that left me looking forward to the next book, Flight and Fight that continues the story of Lily and the Jae family. If you enjoy a really intense thriller this series is for you.

This is an amazing story of an abusive father, a mobster, and a wonderful knight in shining armor so to speak. Either way, this book shows a really ugly side - I do not believe the term father fits this case. I was compelled to read this story without stop as it was amazing. I am looking forward to more by this new (to me) author.

This was a story line that I couldn't get in to. Even though the description said there was abuse, torture and sexual assault, it was a lot more than I felt the book needed. I couldn't even bring myself to finish it. Maybe some people will like it, but it's not for me.

While not my usual genre I recently read Take Down by Carol Tate. Thoroughly enjoyed reading it always wanting to know what happens next. Look forward to her writing the next book in the series.
