I thought there were more books in this boxset, but apparently not. I have reviewed the books individually. I received the boxset as a bookbub freebie, and generally enjoyed it, although it was not groundbreaking. I did appreciate the opportunity to read the books though, and probably enjoyed the last, Westward for Love, the most.

Promise of the Earl was a beauty and the beast remake. The Earl of Turner, Edward was selfish and cruel until a fire destroyed his good looks and forced him to change his ways. Dorothea Earnest was a bluestocking, beaten by her father and forced to do his bidding in his revenge against Edward. I liked Edward's friend Stephen, Viscount Johnston and hope he gets his own romance. I didn't like how Lord Gaines and Lady Lauder were tried and punished without the possibility of a trial based on their overheard confessions.

In An Earl's Wager, Lord Hartley bet Lord Morton that he could steal a kiss from Lady Ellen by the end of the season. He didn't consider what this would do to her reputation. It was only when she rejected his advances that he decided to pretend to reform to manipulate her into getting what he wanted so he could win the bet. But once he started to change he realized that he didn't like the man he used to be. And when she finds out about the bet he has to work hard to earn her trust and forgiveness.

In Alice's Arranged Marriage, she had no choice but to accept an arranged marriage with Charles, Lord Allerton after elite New York society didn’t accept her as the daughter of a newly wealthy man in trade lacking in social skills. Charles is only marrying her for money and he insults her repeatedly over her lack of refinement and wants to spend little time with her even though they will soon be wed. He does change his ways, but I didn’t like him for the self-centered snob he was. His family tries to drive them apart, which adds to the drama.

In the Aristocrat's Charade,Ophelia was rude towards Viscount Marchmont when he tried to restart their courtship. Yes, he ended it and did not seem very happy about restarting it, which would have made me question why he would want to. But she still she shouldn’t have agreed that he was dull when he commented that he could be, agreed to dance with him and then avoided him, tried to force another lady on him, and other behavior that was not appropriate. When he is finally forced to reveal why he needed to court her again she gets caught up in solving the mystery and is much nicer. However, I liked her friend Miss Smallwood much better. She was kind and got her point across without being mean.

In The Viscount's Heart, Miss Emily Smythe was a mousy wallflower that Viscount Arthur Wickton’s sister was friends with. She has had a crush on him for years, but he’s never really noticed her. Emily draws the attentions of Lord Davenport, a fickle rake who is only after her dowry and wants her because he feels she will be biddable enough to not question him continuing his rakish ways after marriage. Arthur realizes how dastardly he is and threatens to tell Emily, but before he can do so the driver of his hackney is shot in front of him and he is kidnapped. He has figure out how to escape, so he save Emily before it’s too late from Lord Davenport. Or maybe the wallflower will stand up to the bully and save him first?

All clean books with wondrous characters and storylines. Many of the regencies have a mystery element to them which makes them that much more enjoyable and interesting. Most of the mail orders are not the typical storyline, I quite enjoyed that.

Promise of the Earl

A most enjoyable, clean, regency romance with some tragedy and mystery. Wonderful characters and an engaging storyline with some definite twists and turns.

An Earl’s Wager

Quite an enjoyable tale. Unexpected moments and a pull at the heart. Can someone truly change, would someone even want to change? Wonderful characters.

Alice’s Arranged Marriage

I was drawn in most completely to this story of being out of place. The side notes of something being afoot was intriguing as well. I loved these characters.

Entangled with the Viscount

A most engaging and bewildering beginning that led to an equal entertaining rest of the book. I absolutely loved it. Mystery and peril and twists and turns. I was beyond excited to revisit characters from the first book! Such an unexpected revelation at the end makes me hope and long that we will see more of these characters, and those revealed, in a subsequent book in this set.

The Aristocrat’s Charade

I was utterly confused at the first, but once the premise made its way out, I was invigorated looking forward to yet another mysterious adventure romance. It turned out better than I could expected. Quite entertaining.

Bewildered Earl

Much anxiety was caused to me at the beginning of this book as I was both anticipatory and worried regarding how things would play out. And indeed, the title sums these circumstances up quite nicely. Bewildering, indeed! Such a story with confusion and adventure!

The Viscount’s Heart

Lovely characters and a nefarious scheme. Will the beautiful lady be trapped, never to find happiness?

An Earl’s Love

A story that set my heart alight. Such anticipation I felt at the journey to come. Two wonderful characters coming together in an enjoyable story.

Unexpected Earl

This whole story was must unexpected. It definitely kept me guessing the entire way.

Westward for Love

After enjoying so many regencies, I was worried that I wouldn’t care for the switch to western mail orders. However, this was probably the most enjoyable, albeit unusual, mail order bride book I’ve read. A truly engaging storyline with solid characters.

Broken Betrothal

A sweet romance. Unexpected twists, and a soft, sweet yearning.

The Bride’s Heart

A sweet tale full of sorrow and healing.

Etta’s Secret

THere was a a bit of mystery added to this mail order romance. A romance with action and adventure.

Jessie’s Regret

I’m excited to revisit a character introduced in the last book. Interesting twists and good characters.

Regency and Historical Western Mix

I have read several books by Joyce Alec, but this sweet romance anthology was my first introduction to Ruby Hill’s westerns. This collection has nine Regency romances and five westerns. This book did include some books by Joyce Alex that I had not yet read. I like the suspense that is in most of her novels; I wish there were more Regency romantic suspense on the market. While I enjoy her books for the most part, I do find them variable in quality. For instance, I did not like Alice's Arranged Marriage (in this anthology) at all because I found the “hero” to be absolutely abominable, both cruel and weak; I soooo want the heroine to end up with someone else. And sometimes I find Ms. Alec’s word choice and phrasing to be a bit stilted at times, as she attempts heightened historical language but falls shy of the mark. Some of her books have quite the information dumps at the beginning, which seems to be a problem with novellas these days. There are occasional issues with grammar, punctuation, and usage as well.

I'm relatively new to westerns, As Regency has been my go-to historical romance for a long time. but I did enjoy the ones included in this collection.

Here is a review of one of Joyce Alec’s books in this collection.

The Aristocrat's Charade
An Unlikely Couple Embroiled in Mystery and Romance

This novel turns some Regency romance tropes on their proverbial ears. I love how in the prologue Ophelia, the heroine, was quite pleased when her noble suitor, Peter, broke off their courtship after only two weeks. She, too, believed they were ill-suited. So imagine her surprise when the next day, I think, he is back and requesting that they resume their courtship. He is actually quite adamant about it, but she resists until her aunt insists that she should give him a second chance after he spouts a flowery declaration. His attempts to woo her back (and her reaction to it) made me smile as it was quite humorous What Ophelia doesn’t know, and Peter doesn’t say for quite a while, is that her fickle suitor has received a threat against his brother unless he continues the courtship and even marries her. When he does reveal his reason, Ophelia understands and wants to help. As they try to unravel the mystery, will this become a real courtship?

I found this intriguing plot to be just different enough from the common Regency ones that I could pass over issues with stilted language, information dumps, and occasional bad grammar and still enjoy the twists and turns of the suspense plot (and the budding romance), as the couple eventually worked together to figure out who was threatening his brother. I ended up enjoying this book more than I imagined I would!

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

Peter returns to resume his courtship of Ophelia and together they work to protect Edward so that their courtship can end. As they work together this results in the development of mutual respect and affection. This is another well written book by Joyce Alec filled with intrigue and mystery.
The Viscount's Heart
Emily Smythe was a wallflower who had a crush on Viscount Arthur Wickton for years, but he hardly noticed her until a fickle rake Lord Davenport took an interest in her. When Arthur tries to warn Emily about Lord Davenport he is kidnapped. Will he escape or will Emily find courage and rescue him? Another beautiful story by Joyce Alec.
Broken Betrothal
Nora is living with her sister and husband after her parents death. "She wants a life of her own so she agreed to become a mail order bride to
an older man. When she arrives she finds he has been murdered. His son Joseph hires Nora as a Cook and Maid. You'll be amazed at what happens next. This is another great read by Ruby Hill and it has it all. Romance, mystery and suspense

Etta's Secret
Etta came to Copper Peaks as a Mail order bride only to find her husband to be married someone else. On her trip there Etta was given a package containing a precious broach by a stranger with the instructions to keep it safe until she returns for it. Reuben helps Etta find refuge in a strange town. Below is a review of one of the books to give you an idea of what’s included.

*** Reviewing “THE ARISTOCRAT’S CHARADE” ***
I really love this romance with its clever touch of intrigue and mystery! Miss Ophelia Grey is pleased that Lord Peter Marchmont, who believes she is not the right match for him, decides that their courtship should go no further. It is actually a relief to her! Yet she is surprised when he comes back in a couple of days to beg her for another chance! That makes no sense at all!

When Peter found a note which stated that he had to court Miss Grey or his brother, Edward, would be ruined, Peter realizes he has no choice but to go back to her and convince her that they need to try again. Fortunately, he does tell her the truth of the situation and they work together to protect Edward’s reputation while they find out who sent the note and why.

Ophelia and Peter work well together and as mutual respect and affection start to be realized, perhaps they won’t want to walk away the second time.

I thoroughly enjoyed the book and found it fun and intriguing. Ophelia was a strong character that was easy to respect. I think both she and Peter learned some valuable lessons about each other that will give them a firm foundation if they choose to give love a chance. I highly recommend this one! This author’s books are really excellent and I think you’ll thoroughly enjoy all of the books she has collected for you here!

This is a fifteen book collection, by two authors, Joyce Alec and Ruby Hill.
The two authors, have both chosen from their own books, a very good collection.
There is a selection of Regency and Mail order bride books.
They where all good reading material, of course as with any book, everyone has a preference, of settings.

The regency collection, are clean, sweet and romantic, a rogue and a mystery, with enjoyable, strong characters, that have been developed to
fit within their part of the story. Generally the setting is in London.

The westerns are set in the US, as any good western would be.
There are mysteries, abuse, second chances, western life and romances.

I will not go into each story, as i believe the authors blog, will provide these details.
I did have a very late night with these books, they were, just to good to put down.
I would very much recommend this book as good reading. These two authors make an exciting pair.

Wonderful historical novels where you float away in sweet language and where the honor of the lady is held high. I loved reading the story of Lord Johnston and Lady Ashton "Entangled with the Viscount"
Besides the fact that this is a sweet love story, a mystery is also unraveled. Someone is trying to help Lord Johnston of this world by giving him laudanum which makes him unconscious for 3 days. He therefore thinks he is too late for his visit to Lady Ashton, who knows nothing about it. When Lord Johnston is offered a second time laudanum, he soon recognizes the taste but has already drunk from it. When he arrives home, Lady Ashton follows him and together they discover a corpse in his study. Together they go in search of the real murderers at the risk of their own lives.
The nice thing about this story is that Lord Johnston already appeared in an earlier story. That of Lord Turner and there too a mystery was unraveled.
Again, nice sweet stories, highly recommended

I have previously read and left reviews for all of the books by Joyce Alec except Entangled with the Viscount and Bewildered Earl.

Entangled with the Viscount: I had not seen this book on Amazon an was glad to see it in this collection. It is a wonderful story of love, suspense and reckoning. Lady Ashton and Lord Johnsons characters are well described, quite believable and the story was a treat to read.

The Aristocrats Charade: Lady Ophelia, and Lord Peter Marchmont have just agreed to end a courtship, neither one unhappy about it when a series of events conspire to reverse their decision. A little mystery, suspense tossed with an growing attraction to each other make for light reading and enjoyment. This review along with all the other stories except Bewildered Earl from Joyce Alec have been posted on Amazon previously.

This is an absolute gem of a collection and a must have for all those who love sweet, clean Historical Romances! It is a collection of Regency-era romances set in London, and mail-order bride romances which take place in the American West.

The storylines and plots were all artfully crafted and kept me hooked until I finished. I had to pace myself as I wanted to read all in one sitting! I am not a typical reader of mail order brides, regencies are what I typically navigate towards. But these were outstanding stories which I"m glad I did not miss. Ms Alec and Ms Hill have a true talent for adding a mystery element to romance that makes the read all the more engaging and interesting. Plenty of drama, intrigue, and plot twists to keep you hooked till the end! You do not want to miss this this outstanding collection!

First of all, this collection is really long although each individual story is not too bad. If you are looking for something you can put down and come back to later, this would work for you. As with all compilations, some stories are better than others but I didn’t find any of them to be a disappointment. The first stories are Regency or Victorian era and the last are western mail order brides. I am not going to review them all separately making for an extremely long review. If you are familiar with these authors, the books included here are good examples of their writing styles. These are also clean romances, some with sexual tension and lots of kissing.

Absolutely loving these books!
Thank you to the author for allowing me the opportunity to read an advance review copy.

Pleasantly surprised! These are wonderful books. The stories are full of strong characters, clean romance, hurdles to overcome without the ridiculous misunderstandings often found in many stories. I appreciate the character development and the unique story-lines. The hero and heroine, as well as others, have depth of character not often seen in many romance novels. Very refreshing. I believe I have found a new favorite author! Thank you Ms. Alec!

I've had this collection on my devices to read in between other books so it has taken me longer than normal to get through it. The first several stories are regency romances and the last few are mail order bride stories. For the most part I enjoyed the various characters, but some I found rather frustrating. The stories had plenty of drama and interesting situations. There were some editing mistakes throughout, but not too distracting. Overall I liked this collection well enough as a good distraction and escape when I needed something to read as I waited for my library holds to come in.

Many books in this collection which will keep you reading for many hours, good for a rainy week. Although all these books have the same basis that of girl & boy falling in love and living happy ever after there are so many twists that each book is quite different. Many of these I had read before, but enjoyed reading them again. If you enjoy historical romance you can’t go wrong with this collection.

This is a huge collection of fourteen historical romances! They are intriguing, interesting, nicely developed and well written. I love the characters and the plots are captivating. The Earl's Wager is one of my favorite and had me smiling a lot. It's a sweet collection that really pulls at your heartstrings.

This was a set of 14 books, most of them Regency romances, which were totally interchangeable. The names changed but the circumstances (damsel in distress, rogue and gentleman) were all the same. I ended up reading the first couple of chapters then the last couple of most of them, and didn't miss much. The Mail Order Brides were better, but not by a lot.

This is a very nice collection with both England and Mail Order Brides. Characters are well written, even though there were times I cringed at the vocabulary, I had to remind myself that they probably truly talked like that, being ordinary people. Thank you for a wonderful addition to my family and a chance to escape this world.
