What happens when a woman who’s done the unthinkable needs protection—can a man who’s lost his belief in humanity keep her safe? Max Brown doesn’t trust anyone but his team. The former SEAL learned early in life that people let you down—they lie, they steal, and they lie some more. Love is a word that is used to manipulate. Family is meaningless. Max is an island and he prefers it that way. A woman who needs a safe harbor—but is undeserving. Cyber genius, John “Tex” Keegan rescued Eva Dawson, a single mother who was forced to do something inconceivable to save her children. Tex somehow sees the good in her when no one else does. She is redeemable. Now, just when she’s getting her life back together someone wants her dead. Tex calls in the Gold Team to help—specifically Max Brown, the man with a past that mirrors that of Eva’s. A past that clouds the present. Tex has a plan—he always does. But neither the protector nor woman who’s been marked for death make it easy. Neither of them trust and both will fight to stay in control. If Tex can keep them both alive long enough, he knows the duo is the perfect pair—each of them will be what the other needs to heal the sins of the past.

Reread 20/1/2022 - 4.25 stars

I'm in a go back to my favourite authors kinda mood so that is what I did.

My original review touches almost every point that I observed this time around too. While I did get a bit put off with Eva's constant talk about her being sad and alone as her penance, I did have more compassion towards her during this reread. It wasn't that I lacked any empathy back when I first read it, it's just that I can understand better why her insecurities are getting the better of her. I understood better why she's being so hard on herself. I was bored with the whole "Eva is a dumb bitch, she did dumb shit so she deserves to die alone as her penance" schtick after the fifth time, sure, but I understand why it was so.
I didn't think the interactions between the kids and Max were lacking but it's always good to have more scenes with the kids opening up to the new person in their lives. Max going through the motions of hating, rather disliking, then falling in love with Eva was a tough and emotional process. The dialogue got a bit cheesy at times because I don't think Max would talk like that but hey, not most people talk how characters in books do and we still love them, or even because of it, so issokay.

I love watching these men find their happily ever afters after everything they've been through. The men that Riley writes about just have a special meaning for me and they've raised my standards. Sometimes they can have their heads in their asses, but once they decide what they want. woohoo baby, it's on! There will never be lack of communication in Ms. Edwards' books and I'm thankful for that.
While I love the romance, like I said in my original review, the climax was anti-climactic. RS needs to be good on both fronts to have 5 stars, sorry but I don't make the rules😪

My favourite scenes:
1. When Eva, Liam and Eli, Eva's sons, are praying and Max overhears them
2. When Liam talks to Bubba on the conference call
3. Anything and everything involving Zane Lewis.
“I don’t know what to call it. I would say your tantrum, but my wife tells me I need to work on my people skills and has informed me that most of the time I’m a dick.” Zane shrugged and stepped farther into the room. “Since I love my wife, and Ivy’s normally right, I find myself trying to… be nice.” The man looked positively ill. - Zane to Eva.

"I want to travel a road with you I’ve never been on—a path that might dead-end in five feet, or it may just be a beautiful voyage. Either way, I want to walk it with you.” -Max to Eva.

Typically, I would go in for Declan's book to reread but I don't have the emotional capacity at the moment to go through that emotional rollercoaster again. When I need to have a good cry, I might give it another go😭

Read 25/2/2021 - 4 stars

Original review:

Max seemed like such an interesting character in the previous books. The surly-doesn't trust anyone-alphahole-military man. I was excited to see how he would interact with Eva's children.
This was a good book. Eva at times annoyed me with her self doubt (i have a LOT of self doubt/insecurities too maybe thats why this pissed me off...Oh dear Logic, where are you??) but her love for her children was so heart warming. I loved Liam and Eli but I wish there were more interactions between max and the kids.
The romance was good but the suspense was very anti climactic. This focuses more on the romance and had less action. For me the book gets 3 stars buttt......
ZANE LEWIS made an appearance and his dimples had my heart skipping several beats. I wanted to see little Eric soooo bad...
Tex was a sweetheart as usual.
Zane and Tex deserve the extra star!
All in all, a good read!

OMG! What a story! I have read every book in the Gold Team series as well as most of Riley Edwards other books and this series just keeps getting better and better! If you have been reading the series you know that Max is a skeptical, tight lipped, grouchy team member. He trusts few into his inner circle and even those few don't know his whole story. When he is assigned to protect a woman and her two young sons by Tex, livid doesn't even begin to describe his feelings. One thing we all know about Tex is that than man knows what he is doing. How...who knows but Tex knows all! Eva has had a rough life and in doing so has made some poor decisions but as any mother knows, we would do anything for our children's safety and even if it meant doing something wrong, we would probably do it to protect them. That is what Eva did in her past and now Tex has settled her into a quiet, safe life in Florida until one day Max turns up on her doorstep and shatters her illusion of safety. The last thing that Eva wants is some man coming into her and her sons lives and uprooting them from their new normal no matter how insistent he is that it is a matter of life and death! I could go on and on about Max and Eva's story but that would ruin the reading experience for you so just know that these two jaded people are going to have to work together to keep Eva's past from coming back to destroy her and her young sons. Maximus stands alone however I recommend reading all of the other Gold team books so that you can get to know all of the connected characters and as with all the other books in the series it is told from dual POV and has an over the top alpha male, a woman with a spine of steel that refuses to bend, heat, angst and lots of love!

I once read an allegory years ago about a traveler who endured much to get to a land of joy. I felt a bit like I was on that journey again with Max and Eva. This story, while much the same as Riley's previous works, alpha hero, wonderful heroine, suspenseful action, romance, great backstory, and swoon-worthy ending; it was at the same time different. We all witnessed Eva's mistakes in an earlier book, but now we know the rest of the story.

Guilt and shame. Those two traveling companions can genuinely be annoying and soul-sucking traveling companions. When the choices you have made come back nightly to haunt your waking and sleeping hours, the toll on your psyche is brutal. Throw in an inability to trust, and it does not surprise the damage we can do to ourselves when we fail to let go. Max and Eva needed to learn to let go. Unfortunately, they could not see this; fortunately, Tex (yay TEX!) could. Thank you (beloved) authors, for keeping this vital thread that is Tex continually threading through stories and series that only stitch us up tighter to these unforgettable characters. Now, where was I? Oh yes, Max and Eva. Without giving anything away, watching the renaissance of good things in these two is more than worth the read.

You need to read this book for many reasons:
1. It's the next to last book in the Gold Team series, and it leaves us with several enticing things for the future.

2. We get to see Red team members and other Gold team members with their usual banter that we all love.

3. Watching those two nasty traveling companions of guilt and shame get changed into joy and happiness (darn that right there is a 2-crying pillow thing), is worth everything.

4. Max and Eva. I'm so glad that Tex convinced Riley that these two were perfect for each other.

5. Cross-overs.

6. Declan.

7. Blue Team

8. Kyle and Anaya

9. The power of prayer and forgiveness that runs all through this book. It spoke loudly and lovingly.

10. Tex. That. Is. All.

This is a great action packed, suspense filled book that grabs you right from the beginning and doesn’t let you go until you’ve read the entire thing. Eva has had a hard life. She was forced to choose between trying to protect her two sons and committing a crime by stranding a couple in the middle of Nowhere Alaska. She and her sons were saved by Tex and relocated to Florida. There is now a problem though and someone has put a hit out on Eva. Tex sends Max from Z Corps to the rescue. He is brash and rude and he and Eva butt heads right off. Max has his own set of problems but when he sees Eva with her boys he softens. He never had that kind of love growing up. Max is tasked with getting Eva to a safe house in Maryland while Tex tries to figure out who put the hit out and who the hitman is. Along the way there is an attempt on their lives. This book has an explosion, abduction, a road trip with kids, cute kids, forgiveness, letting go of the past, learning to trust and love.

Amazing!!!! Loved it so much.
Maximus is the 4th book from the Gold Team and it was everything I hoped it to be.
Max is untrusting and trust no one but his team and their women.
Oh Max..What an heartbreaking childhood he had. I wanted to hug him.
Eva will protect her children from everything.
Even doing something so evil that she couldn’t live with the guilt of what she has done.
When Eva’s life is in danger, Tex sends Max to keep her safe.
Love everything about this book. Max was awesome. Love his relationship with Liam and Eli. Love how protective he was of them.
This wasn’t a love at first sight, but they slowly started to trust each other and Max will see that Eva is not the evil woman he thought she is.
As always I love the brotherhood and how they protect the women and also each other.
The suspense was so good. Had me on the edge of my seat.
Tex as always AMAZING!! One of the best characters. Susan Stoker really scored with him.
Can’t wait for Declan’s book and read how it’s going to turn out.

My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ STARS!!

Wow, wow, wow!!! I loved Maximus!! Each book in this series just gets better and better. Max does not want the job assigned to him....Eva. As far as he is concerned she isn’t worth his time or effort. But what Max doesn’t know, he will soon find out and when he does? All bets are off. Max has never trusted people because they have always let him down. Eva has been burned in life and has had to learn to depend on herself. But when these two meet? Holy smokes do things change! Amazing story!

I love me a good redemption story, and boy howdy was this one for Eva. My heart hurt for the guilt she felt for what she did to Mark and Zoey. Especially, knowing that I would have done the same for the exact same reasons that she did. I liked the slow build into developing trust for both her and Max.

Things made a lot more sense of why Max was the difficult man that he was. I enjoyed seeing his vulnerable side.

Maximus

OMG! Another FANTASTIC story by Riley! This story is about grumpy Max. Tex sent Max to protect a woman whom Max didn't like in the beginning. Eva was a very untrusting woman who wanted to protect her two sons. So when Max confronted Eva she didn't believe him at first that she was in danger. It was interesting to see how these two start trusting each other and falling in love. Tex is a doggone matchmaker. The ending was intense as we all thought Eva and the boys were safe. When Eva was taken, it was a shock. I am happy that she decided to fight back. It was funny that she caught Gabe off guard when she punched him. I am happy that Max and Eva are finally working on their happily ever after. FANTASTIC job Riley! I would recommend this book!

Max doesn't trust easily and definitely doesn't trust Eva. Eva has done many things in the past that she is truly humiliated by but she had to save her sons.
Max is learning all about Eva and likes what he is learning even though he doesn't want to. Eva wants Max but is scared to get to close. They are working with his team and Tex to find out who put the hit out on her.
Will they find who is behind the hit? Is Eva finally free to live her life? Will Max finally find someone who loves him?

So many twists and turns, I almost have myself whiplash keeping up with Riley Edwards story telling. I never saw the climax coming. I was totally surprised. Excellent romantic suspense. By far the best book in this series.

This book should come with a major disclaimer—not some cute little, happy whoo-whoo blurb about a girl that gets in trouble and a guy that saves her. That is not this book. Well, that’s not all this book is. I’m doing my civic duty in warning you.

Let’s start out with some basic facts. ‘Maximus’ is the 4th in the Gold Team series authored by Riley Edwards and a new book related to the Susan Stoker Special Forces World. Hopefully, you’ve read the first three Gold Team books with Brooks, Thaddeus, and Kyle. You don’t need too, but it makes the story more complete if you’re familiar with the Gold Team, their commander and women.

On to my civic duty—Eva’s life has been fraught with bad decisions. All she wants to do is make up for her mistakes and raise her two sons to be good men. Nothing wrong with that. Except that the whole scenario is fraught with wrongness and she’s learned life is not that kind. Enter Max. I’m sure you’d love to read that they meet, fall in love and live happily ever after. So, yeah, they do that. But, Riley Edwards doesn’t write for the Cartoon Network. Get real people. She’s like if Cartoon Network and... Investigation Discovery (it’s a cable channel; all sorts of crazy, scary crime scene show with killers) got together for a dinner party. There might be a beautiful heroine and a sexy-alpha male, but you know you’re going to get angst, maybe a kidnapping and a creepy weirdo lurking in the shadows somewhere.

Back to my civic duty—Eva is all that: a beautiful, strong-willed, and highly pragmatic. She’s doing the best she can with the circumstances she’s found herself in. And she lucky or to her way of thinking un-lucky enough to find herself in Max’s world. Max can’t believe Tex has asked him to protect Eva. He knows what she’s done. He knows what type of woman she is and has been burned in the past. He’s alpha, and kind of a$$hole-ish. He’s not the most patient, understanding guy but he is strong, dedicated and determined.

‘Maximus' is like a smoldering embers kind of book. You really have to settle into this book. Don't expect flashbang military action or wild drama. Settle into this book like you're settling into a comfortable chair with your favorite blanket and a glass of wine. Don't misunderstand though; there is drama and angst and emotion. It's just so subtle. It smolders...and it only needs a steady breath of air to catch fire.

'Maximus' is a fantastic book. Eva and Max are a matching pair that fit together beautifully. Ms. Edwards does a wonderful job of creating a believable world and a host of supporting characters that are almost as lovely as the story between Eva and Max. Alright, I might have stretched the civic duty thing a bit, but I don’t think so. I’m doing you a solid. You’re welcome.

This book was so awesome and if there were ever two people that deserved a happy ending, it was these two. There were so many parts of this book that just tore at my heart. Between Max and Eva and then her two young boys…there was so much feeling poured into this story and Edwards did a fabulous job of capturing their raw emotions and blending them smoothly into this heart-wrenching read. This is a book you definitely want to settle in for.

I am not sure who my heart ached more for in this story. Both Max and Eva had some serious issues to deal with and I really enjoyed seeing them come to terms with their individual struggles, their separate emotions, and their haunting pasts and their willingness and openness to work together to help each other heal and move forward towards a forever relationship. Everything about this read will leave you emotional reeling in the end.

Aside from the two main characters this story centers on – Max and Eva (and her two young sons), Edwards also lets us revisit with the rest of the Gold team and their ladies, and Tex; from Susan Stoker’s books. He is a pivotal character in most of the stories he appears in. In Maximus, Tex was the reason for Max and Eva coming together. Also, if you have not read Securing Zoey, by Susan Stoker, you may want to do so as Eva is mentioned and plays a part in that story as well. It is a result of her actions in Securing Zoey that Tex comes into her life, and by extension Max, for protection and to help her with her situation. It is not necessary to read Securing Zoey first, Maximus can stand alone (Eva’s situation is explained in detail and you will not fill lost), it would just add to the overall reading experience and provide more background and understanding of Eva’s reactions and interactions with some of the characters in this book.

Maximus is a fabulous addition to Edwards’ Gold Team series and one you do not want to miss. From awesome characters, a great storyline, drama, danger, emotions, suspense, mystery, and a beautiful ending for two broken souls needing redemption, acceptance, forgiveness, trust, and love, this book is captivating from beginning to end. Now I am ready and waiting for Declan…bring him on! These guys are just amazing!

OMG what an utterly heart wrenching & captivating story from the amazing Riley Edwards. It has everything you could want action, suspense, heat, laughter, anger & tears & brilliant characters. The story takes your emotions & puts them through the wringer & just leaves you wanting more.
Although this can be read as a stand-alone it helps give context if you’ve read Susan Stoker’s Securing Zoey & the previous Gold Team books. I wasn’t sure I could like Eva after her previous actions but I’m now a card carrying member of Team Eva. At every turn life has dumped on Eva, she’s made some horrendous decisions, knows what she’s done is unforgivable but will do anything to protect her children. Life has taught Max to trust no one bar his team & a very select few who have proved their loyalty including the amazing Tex, so when Tex asks him to protect Eva Dawson & her family he agrees despite severe misgivings about her character & trustworthiness. Tex sees the good in Eva & believes surly, untrusting Max is the right person to keep her safe. Eva is horrified to learn that the safety of the new life she is trying to build for her family in Florida is just an illusion & they must flee. She trusts Tex but Max is a completely different story & they clash head-on with from the start.
Can these two lost souls find a way to trust each other, make peace with their pasts, forgive themselves & heal enough to have a future? My heart ached for Eva & Max & they have become two of my favourite characters. Max is gorgeous, alpha to his core, grumpy, grouchy, unfailingly blunt & completely wonderful. Eva has an amazing inner strength that has kept her going after reaching rock bottom so many times, her sons are her world, she can’t forgive herself but is trying to atone in so many ways.
Thank you Riley Edwards I loved this story, I cried, I smiled, I desperately wanted them to find their HEA but I didn’t think want it to end - wow!
Bonuses in this book - an appearance from Zane, Tex in person & the rest of Gold Team & partners, win, win, win. Bring on Declan’s story the anticipation is killing me!

Seriously....I went through so many tissues with this story I could have bought shares in Kleenex. This story had me from the get go and I had my doubts on how this author could make me like the “bad” girl from the previous story into a character I would even somewhat like. OH MAN this author delivered and had me having all the feels for Eva, who redeems herself many many many times and the bad she did to Mark and Zoey...oh boy...did she ever redeem herself.
Maximus is sent to Florida to protect Eva and her two boys who have been through a lot and Max isn’t liking the assignment at all, and dislikes Eva even more because of her past deeds. When a contract is put out on Eva, Max is determined to protect her, no matter what she did in the past since Tex asked him to, and he trusts Tex. As he gets to know Eva, her past and why she did what she did and what her boys went through, he starts to feel more for the woman he misjudged and they both end up filling the holes in their lives they both have and accept each other for who they are....scars and all. Now they just have to thwart a contract killer and keep her and her boys safe.
WHAT A READ!!! HOLY SMOKES!!! The steam and passion from these two....oh my my my my. The heartache, heartbreak, trust issues, betrayals, abuse....made my eyes run like a waterfall and the two boys, learning to trust and opening up to Max and the other team members....oh boy. The story flowed flawlessly, the characters were amazing, the boys were precious and Max and Eva....my favorite couple right now. I LOVED the honesty between them, no holding back or playing games and the way Max was with the boys and how he related to them, had my heart melting into a puddle of goo.
Dam this was an amazing read from beginning to end !!!!

Maximus of the Gold team trusts no one. He is skeptical of everyone and trusts noone but his team. He has deep trust issues that go back to his childhood.
Eva Dawson has done many things in her life that she's not proud of but she's done what she has had to do to take care of her boys. They are the most important thing in life to her. She doesn't think she is worth helping or having anyone be nice to her or forgiving her for some of the choices she has made in her life. She has done nothing wrong since Tex got her boys back to her and helped her move to Florida. She keeps her head down, goes to work, takes care of her boys and helps those she can.
Tex sends Max to keep Eva safe, Tex tells Max that she is in danger. Max doesn't trust her, how could he, when she put Bubba’s life in jeopardy. He's not sure she's worthy of Tex's kindness or forgiveness.
Max is drawn to Eva but doesn't want to be. He doesn't want to like her. Her boys Eli and Liam are the sweetest boys he's ever met. Eli is shy and does whatever his big brother does. Liam at 6, has had to be the protector and keep his little brother safe. He is leary of men.
Max is drawn to this woman and her boys, but isn't sure he can trust what he feels. Can he and his team figure out who's out to kill her or harm her and the boys?
Great read reminding everyone how hard it can be to overcome emotional and physical abuse and learn to trust again.
Grab a glass of your favorite beverage and a big box of Kleenex. Great well written story as always. We even get to catch a glimpse of Zane and his craziness. In true Riley Edwards fashion we get to touch base with the entire Gold team and meet the members of Blue team.

And here I thought Eva would be safe. Nope. Max warned her when he first met her that he could have grabbed anytime. She needed to pay attention to her surroundings. But she was to happy and let her guard down.

Max was about as untrusting as a human could get. Growing up the way he did he especially didn't trust women. Honestly I didn't blame him. Pretty bad when your own mother chooses and abuser over her own flesh and blood.

I loved the way Tex and Zane (basically Tex) assigned Eva and her two boys to Max to protect them. I won't go into the story because it gives too much away. Lets just say Max didn't trust Eva and couldn't understand why Tex wanted to protect her. After getting to know Eva and especially her boys it broke Max's heart for the boys. It also angered him. When he got word that he had to bring her and her boys to Maryland there was no an's if's or but's. You see there was a hit out on her. When they were on her way one of Zane's teams went to Florida to try and catch the assassin what they found was her house was rigged to explode (possibly killing her and the boys). Then on their way to Maryland someone blew her car up at the restaurant they stopped to grab food.. During the time he was with her and her boys and grew attached to the boys and they him. They were so afraid he was going to leave them. And the amazing thing out of all this was Max who trusted no one was falling in love with Eva. This was a really good read. Lots of action, lots of heartache but oh so very good especially with how the boys bonded with Max and of course how Eva also fell in love with him. So now onto Declan's. We already got a bet of background but I'm kind of dreading his story I know I'll need a box of tissues.

An absolute wild ride. Eva did something bad, she left two people to die in the wilderness of Alaska. Tex set her up in Florida after that debacle with her two kids. She’s barely surviving. Max is assigned to shadow Eva and he hates the assignment, as it was his friend that she left to die. They have to trek up to Maryland from Florida and she’s a mama bear about her kids not knowing why they are moving again. He keeps telling himself that she has to remain the villain for his own peace of mind, but all the things she’s done, it’s hard. Especially when she and her kids say prayers for Mark, Zoey and Tex every night. He confronts Eva about this and she says that she needs to hear their names so that she hurts and that she deserves pain, and it’s her penance. She thinks she doesn’t get to be “okay” after what she’s done. The whole Gold team eventually gets involved, even Zane (and he’s his hilarious self, as usual), even Captain Underpants. You can hear a pin drop after Gold Team hears Liam say that they pray for Mark, Zoey and Tex every day. Zoey also has a great right hook, but you’ll have to read to find out who she hits. Oh yeah, and the best part, Tex is a “commando cupid”.

There’s twists and turns galore and I went so many emotions with this story of Mark and Eva. You won’t be disappointed when you read this book. I certainly wasn’t and I can’t say enough about this author and all her stories. They are spectacular. Ms. Riley is a one-click author for me.

I received this advanced readers copy in exchange for an honest review.

This is book 4 in the Gold Team series and I would absolutely read the previous books before reading this one. I would also recommend reading Securing Zoey by Susan Stoker before this one as well since the heroine in this book was first seen in that book. With that being said, we finally get Max's story!!! Max has always been this hard core, emotionally absent (seemingly) man in the other books, and I have been impatient wanting to know his back story and why he is the way he is. And it in no way disappoints!! Max went through so many things that a person shouldn't have to go through. And when you find out what happened to him, you finally understand why he acts the way he does. Eva went through something that no person should have to. And made a choice that no should ever have to ever make. But finding out what exactly happened made me understand exactly why she did what she did in Susan's book! And my heart broke for her and the things she went through. I loved both of these characters in this book. Eva is a strong as all get out woman who is just trying to survive with the hand that she has been dealt while keeping her boys safe and happy. Max finally deals with the things he should have dealt with long ago, and when he does-I loved him even more!! These two are absolutely perfect for each other even though they truly aren't perfect people. Loved every minute of it!!!

Max and Eva

This book seemed a little bit like a reprieve before the big showdown with Omni in the next book. Max is sent to Florida by Tex to protect a woman that he doesn’t think deserves his protection. Not only does he find out how wrong he is, but he finds someone who understands him on a level he never imagined.

Both Max and Eva have a fractured past. They both have trouble trusting. And they both have thick walls around their hearts. Eva was forced to do something she regrets to save her sons and when Max fully understands the sacrifices she’s made for her sons he sees the good in Eva. Max and Eva both have a lot of baggage but they are forced to air it with each other if they want their relationship to work.

This book was a lot more about the relationship between Max and Eva and her two sons than the other books in the series have been. There was a little suspense but it took a back seat to the romance. I loved that Max accepted Eva’s sons so easily. He related to them in a way no other man could have. I loved his openness with Liam and Eli. He cared about those boys just as much as he cared about Eva.

Because this seemed like a detour, there was a lot less of the rest of the Gold Team in this story. But the way it was left has me excited to get my hands on the next, and final, book in this series.

I can’t actually breathe…

I *think* this is my favourite….but I might need to do an entire series re-read to be sure.

I adore Max, the snarky, untrusting, suspicious member of Gold team, the one who has consistently gone head to head with every one of his team mates women.

Well how the mighty have fallen because when faced with a woman who shouldn’t be trusted, who has done wrong, who has betrayed those who whilst have been betrayed, what does he do….

Tex needs him, Tex tells him it isn’t as it seems but what does Max do…he has to draw his own conclusions and whilst he does this he will be slow to catch on, upset those around him and yet when faced with scared children the tender max comes out.

I liked/disliked Eva, she is absolutely right for Max and a huge part of me could see why she did what she did but (and it’s a me thing) I found it hard to get over her not leaving her husband years ago.

Despite that, her abilities as a mother and love for her children could not be questioned, and once she stopped beating herself over the head I warmed to her a lot actually.

Another amazing, emotional story with a new slew of characters brought in (slightly….)

Declan, Declan, Declan oh what have you done…..

Wow

Just wow. Each book seriously gets better and better. It’s just like Susan stokers world. You get sucked in and then you look up hours later after however many books you are trying to inhale. Loved finally watching the mighty max fall. And getting to see more background on the illustrious Eva we all meet in bubba and zoeys book. You really learn to not hate her despite her hating herself. She is a kick-ass mom and would do anything to protect and love her boys. She has been through the wringer and it was nice to watch her blossom under max. He too had been through everything she had. They both had horrible upbringings and lacked the love and guidance parents should give. Then they both had the pleasures of meeting people in their lives who only used and abused them. They both didn’t trust but when they did it was for life. Loved them together. And their steam was crazy. Just plain hotness! Can’t wait for Declan’s book. I’m glad max will have his back but i was waiting for their convo because dec definitely was being a hypocrite in going to Zane about max and Eva when he was being shady as hell about autumn.

What would you do if someone had your children and threatened to hurt them if you did not do as they say....
I think anything bad to do with one's children, is the worst thing that can happen and when faced with it no-one knows how they will react.

Well Max Brown is in for a surprise. Eva Dawson is not an evil woman, but just a mother who wants to protect her children and make up for past mistakes.
She needs help and someone to keep her safe, but because of what happened in Alaska (See Securing Zoey) she think she is undeserving of help.
Max doesn't trust anyone, except his team, and for good reason. Being hurt by the one person that was suppose to love unconditionally, he feels that he is unlovable and not relationship material.

The journey to trust is a difficult road, and the children as well as Eva and Mix need to go through deep waters to see that some people are with the risk.

Loved the book!!

Eva Dawson has a tragic past that has led to her making bad decisions hand over fist. The last bad decision led to her ex-husband getting custody of her two sons and using them to blackmail her to do something unforgivable.

Max Brown grew up without love or the ability to trust. He became a Navy Seal and found a group of men that he calls his “brothers.”

When Tex asks Max to protect Eva, he doesn’t understand how he is supposed to protect someone like her. But shortly after meeting, he realizes that all is not how it appears. Eva didn’t have a choice. Max also discovers that he and Eva are more alike than he could have imagined. Can these two broken souls help each other heal or are they destined to live life alone?

Maximus was very well written and had me hooked from the beginning. This is book 4 in Riley’s Gold Team and is packed full of action, danger, hot military alpha’s, and life lessons. Forgiveness being the biggest lesson. I enjoyed catching up with old friends and I can’t wait for the next one to be published ❤️❤️❤️

The sweetest story

Whenever someone asks the question what can they expect from a book by author Riley Edwards? My answer is never short 😂😂😂

You can expect a story that's intriguing, entertaining and heartwarming. You can expect Alpha males, who are protectors, strong, intense, a little cocky, honest, fun and have hearts of gold. Female characters that are strong, passionate, sassy, loving, examples to women readers and are badasses .

Most importantly you'll get the value of family and it's importance. Family doesn't have to be blood, it's form in the bond of those who you trust, who you can depend on, those that show up without expecting anything in return.

In Maximus you get that and so much more. Max isn't a trusting person, he isn't one for mixing words and he likes living life just that way. His latest mission sends him to protect Eva, a woman whose been on the wrong side of the law. Not to mention she's wronged someone he knows, so that puts her on his list.

As Max begins the task of protecting Eva and her two sons, who by the way will steal your whole heart, he discovers nothing about Eva is what is seems.

I love the journey these two take together. Both characters are forced to step out if their comfort zone. This story felt real, their emotions touch me and I even cried a little. Definitely one if NY favorite books ❤❤❤❤

Eva Dawson (Eve Dane from Securing Zoey by Susan Stoker) knows just how far she will go to fight for her children, because she has been there/done that. Can she ever forgive herself?

Max Brown (Gold Team by Riley Edwards) knows the hurt of being abandoned as a boy and a man. As a SEAL, he has lived to protect others, but he could not protect his own heart.

When danger threatens Eva, it is hard for Max to forget what she had done to his friends, but getting to see her as a mom with her boys makes it harder to ignore who she might truly be.

Tex is a master at bringing the right people together at the right time and place to rescue someone in danger. No matter how clear the mission plan may be, some of those involved do not see it until there is no turning back.

Maximus is a non-stop story that blends action, suspense, emotions and wonderful characters into another outstanding Gold Team adventure.

Maximus: Special Forces: Operation Alpha: Gold Team is by Riley Edwards. This is a
SEAL’s book and it is well written and realistic.
Maximus was in Florida with orders to find Eve Dawson nee Eve Dane and bring her back to headquarters. However, he was getting a different feeling about her. She had taken two of his team members out in her airplane in Alaska and dropped them of the plane and left them to .. Luckily, she made sure they were somewhere help could find them. She knew that Bubba was a SEAL and hoped he could be able to get out and he was.
She was now set up in Florida with a house for herself and her kids. Things wee beginning to look up until she finds out she is being stalked. This time, Max Brown is ordered to help her and her kids. He doesn’t like this job because he doesn’t trust her since her statement about Bubba. Gradually, her sons, begin to bring him around. Can they do it in time for him to help her get to safety? Will he come out unscathed?

Where to begin.... As usual Riley Edwards takes the reader on a trip through all kinds of emotions and manages to allow the reader to work through there own emotional traumas just by reading a book.
Maximus is a book that embraces the cross over from Eva's story in an earlier book and continues through this book making both characters face their demons in a cathartic way.
What is really exciting and interesting about this story is that we get to see so many other existing Characters from previous storylines and books and authors. It's the next to last book in the Gold Team series, and it leaves us with several enticing things for the future. Red team members turn and other Gold team members with their usual banter. Tex is there as well as Zoey and Bubba.

Another story that makes it so the reader can't wait for the next "episode" and check the dates for the next round as well as being over way too soon!

I wasn't to sure on how I would feel about Eva getting her happily ever after after reading about her in Securing Zoey but...... I couldn't wait to read about Max. I have been waiting for his book. I knew he didnt have a good life, in fact he a terrible one. He was so closed off from being hurt that I just knew it would take someone special to open him up. I knew Tex wouldn't lead him astray and that there were two.sides to every story so I went into this book with and open mind on Eva and let me tell you I'm so glad I did. The love she has for her kids and the sacrifice she will make for them..... Now that is someone who deserves her happily ever after. The fact that her and her boys get Max to let go of and heal from old hurts, open up to the possibility of love and live. Yep they both deserve their HEA......This book also goes to show a little fight, emotional healing, and the power of prayer works every time. Riley knocked Max and Eva out of the park.

I recieved this ARC for an honest review.

This is the fourth book in this series this is the most intense.

Following on from Susan Stoker's securing Zoey. Bubba's story.

Eva Dawson/ Dawkins. Needs help after her encounter with Bubba and everything that went down. She has tried  to do everything under the radar for her & her boys with the help of Tex. She trusts no one.

Max has felt unloved  and unwanted all his life the only people  he trusts are his brothers in arms. But his faith in Tex is going to be tried. When Tex commissions him to watch over and Protect Eva and her boys.

The one person Max wants nothing to do with after what happened to Bubba & Zoey

When Tex insists  that he and Eva have more in common than he would believe. Max reluctantly agrees to help.

Although both have

Trust issues they will  need to work together to keep each other and the boys safe. Another fabulous story 5*
