I picked this up wanting that satisfying “wife chasing” vibe, but… what was this? I get Fu Zhiyu’s anger over his first life, but how could he feel so utterly indifferent toward Xie Ke? It wasn’t even hate it was like watching him look at a cockroach. I actually felt bad for XK, because FZ didn’t care about him in the slightest, not even a flicker. And in doing so, FZ wasted an entire lifetime he could have had with him. Meanwhile, I wasted mine. I trusted the process, but there was no processing happening at all. By the end, I was skimming and rightfully so because what the hell was that?

Out of all of the wife chasing crematorium novels I've read, this one would have to be the most realistic. After being slighted by the ML and having his entire understanding of reality be destroyed, the MC's is realistic. He becomes dispirited and indifferent to his life once the world is rebooted, truly just wanting to laze around and do nothing. Still, he keeps his distance from the ML and those who hurt him, but can't find it in himself to be angry anymore.

I would say most of the novel follows the MC's eventual healing and being able to accept the truth of his reality. He finds new motivations in fixing the society of land in his possession. And while at times this did cause the story to drag, I though it was very much in character. Especially how, even when the ML disappears, he isn't liked "I'm still in love" -- he's calm and, though shocked, more interested in getting answers as to why the ML sacrificed everything for him.

The ML is also an oddity among WCC novels. At the start, he's obsessed with the MC and refuses to leave him alone, assaulting him and stalking him. But, once the two characters finally reveal their secrets, he realizes that his love is too oppressive and would prefer to suffer by himself than make the MC unhappy. He even goes as far as to erase his existence to save the MC's, displaying what I'd call true love. "If you love them, let them go." He certainly would do anything for the MC.

It was so nice to see their love life after the events of the original novel. I liked how the author didn't turn the MC into a love struck idiot and kept his character strong through the entirety. The ML in the modern world was also a fun take, especially as it demonstrated how his love crosses even reality itself. But, I'm glad he was given a complete romance at the end.

The reason I rated this four and not fave stars was because a major part of the novel centers on the MC and politics in his kingdom with no ML present. I felt like the story kind of deviated at that point and it went on and on. It was a bit boring but I also understand why it existed. It allowed the MC to make up for his previous life's failures. I just disliked it, personally.

Still, this is a very good BL novel thats different, in a good way. The author accurately portrays character development and reactions to trauma.

I knew from some of the reviews for this story that this was a wife chasing crematorium. I've read other stuff in this genre before and while it's not my favorite, I do enjoy the process of watching the ML win over the MC again. However, it was extra frustrating in this book, because while the ML did so much for the MC and had a reasonable explanation for why he treated the MC the way he did in their previous life, the MC remains completely cold to him and it took way too long for them to reconcile again.

If you're expecting a lot of fluff, then stay away from this book as that's not what you'll find here. The translator had to keep reminding in her notes that it was happy ending, and honestly that's the only reason I kept reading on, as I was constantly frustrated by the lack of progress in their relationship. It's not until the last couple chapters that they get back together again, so only read this book if you have patience. In the meantime, the story reads more as a slice of life describing the MC's life with his loved ones.

The premise of the story is that the MC, Fu Zhiyu, was a prince who eventually became emperor in his previous life. From the moment he was rescued from an ice lake by the ML, Xie Ke, he was madly in in love with the ML even until his death. However, Xie Ke treated him coldly, and even though they had a physical relationship, XK never gave him his heart. After the MC's death, he realized he was only a cannon fodder character in a book where Xie Ke was the protagonist, and upon reading the book realizes that Xie Ke went on to become a successful emperor with a ton of women in the imperial harem.

Fu Zhiyu then spends many many years in the world of the system, with only the Lord God as his companion. There he learns about how "actors" will enter various novel worlds as the protagonist and try to complete the story's plot with the help of a system. That's when he understands that the Xie Ke in his previous life was also the same; he was just an actor playing his part to complete the story. However, for some reason, when Fu Zhiyu's character died, he didn't become meaningless data in the novel world but instead became a bug that even the Lord God couldn't delete or do anything about.

One day, Fu Zhiyu finds himself suddenly reborn back into the novel world with his memories intact, after Xie Ke went crazy and rebooted the novel world again. And in this replay, even though everything rewinds to right after Xie Ke saved Fu Zhiyu from the icy lake, no matter what Xie Ke does to try to win the MC back, he's completely unsuccessful. All the MC cares about in this life is living well and allowing his loved ones to live well as well. He's unsympathetic to anyone else, even the ML, and removes himself completely from all the throne inheritance intrigue that he was so caught up in during his previous life.

**Warning: Spoilers Ahead**

I get it. After everything the MC has gone through and getting betrayed by the ML time and time again, he's built high walls around his heart and won't let anyone else get in. Initially I thought that the ML really deserved how the MC is treating him, but after you hear the ML's side of the story and realize it's all a big misunderstanding (the ML thought MC was another actor sent by the system to interfere with his tasks and make it harder for him to succeed), I couldn't help but feel sorry for both of them to be caught up in this complicated situation. I really hoped that after they properly communicated and cleared up the misunderstanding, the MC would gradually warm up to the ML again, but alas it wasn't meant to be:

"I have said a long time ago that even if you were doing it just for points, I also understood your choice, because I didn’t think you loved me at all back then. What I didn’t expect just now was that you really liked me.

But so what? We missed it, Xie Ke, we have missed it.

You will understand after you have died once. It hurts too much. Even if you say that you didn’t want to hurt me like this, it doesn’t mean that everything doesn’t count. The hurt was real, and it can’t be removed casually because of this so-called truth.”

The truth came too late.

Their reconciliation took way too long, so by the time they finally get back together again, there are only a couple chapters left in the story. That's not nearly enough fluff for how much pain the author dragged us through for the first 95% of the story!! I was mainly reading this story for the romance, which was unfortunate because most of the story centers around the MC's life rather than the romance.

That's why a lot of the story dragged for me, as we read about the MC's attempts to extricate himself from the fight for the throne and escape from the capital with his concubine mother, and then later about his attempts to clean up corruption in Jiangnan where he moved to and improve the lives of the common folk there. That's all fine and dandy, but give me more sweetness and romance darn it!

An interesting thing about this novel is that the MC spends a lot of time interacting with the higher powers that created the novel worlds and the games. Generally for transmigration systems, the MC interacts mostly with his own system, but here it goes one step beyond that and he's interacting with the higher authorities that run the systems. It's not something I was really into, but it stood out to me as I have never come across it in another novel before.

I have mixed feelings about this book but let me start with what i loved:
Until I started reading this book I had no idea what wife chasing crematorium even meant but now and thinking I will never find another book that can fill the void that this one has created. If any of you have watched the story of minglan you would know what I am talking about. This book started of with the exact same Vibe and that is one of my most favourite dramas. The emotions portrayed were very realistic and I really like how they focused on the emotional growth of the MC rather than focus on an realistic romance. There were some really good lines that you know really hit home for me. I was surprised at how quickly the story was able to evoke emotions and help me for opinions and feelings both positive and negative about the different characters within the first few chapters. The really divorce range of characters was surprisingly done so well and really added so much depth to the story. Surprisingly very well details world building. Characters are not dumb and they kept up with realisations along with the reader which was very helpful in keeping the story engaging. There were also some really cute and funny moments that really endeared the characters
HOWEVER,

I did like the way she rounded off their relationship, although the crematorium lasted wayyyy too long. I think we could have enjoyed a lot more of their relationship gradually developing rather than time skip past it.
Overall though i enjoyed it for the most part.

First of all, this transmigration theme is different. It’s interesting and refreshing from what I have read before. The plot is well-written. I went through many emotions because of this book. I understand both MC and ML side, and agreed that their fate was messed up badly, but if not this book won’t exist hahahaa anyways, the romance is really really really slow, so don’t expect much. The ending is amazing. 4.5/5 ⭐️

I should say that this book really left a deep impression on me. I read it in one day and one go, because I just could not sleep after the plot developments. This story is definitely a masterpiece and the translator did a very good job too. I cried my eyes out several times, and it was several years when I've cried so much reading a book. This is really something.

We have a big amount of angst here. A really big. But that's all not unreasonable and its not some dog-blood drama you might think of. All the things are quite logical and for the first part of the book I was not even expecting a HE anymore. ML did so much stupid and hurtful stuff, that I had no idea how he was going to atone for those. But the author really make it unexpected and very mature. Peace by peace we were given more information, and the emotions were very good and deep. Not plastic at all. All the pain felt so real.

Still, we've got some torture. And it was expected. As MC said one time "If you have a good reason and asked for forgiveness, does it make all the pain non-existent?". This is really true and it hurt like hell for me and ML.

In the end, I even start thinking that no HE possible at all, but even here author made a good plot twist and put at least a little of sweetness. But, what done cannot be undone. It runs already so deep that our main couple is too hurt by each others.

"We are trying to have a relationship", as said MC. It really describes the story quite good. And its very painful too.

This is really a HE in some way, but I have this painful after-taste and a feeling that those pains will never heel. I just hope that they can have a good future. Its really too much to bear to live with this.

I don't want to tell spoilers, and I want to tell just how deep this story runs too. Its quite conflicting. Just try it for yourself, and be ready to walk on this broken glass. Even though its so painful, its an amazing story and I'm happy I've read it.

In the end, I really felt that it was too much for the ML. He really did change, he tried his best. We can clearly see his development and all his pain, as much as love for the MC. He just can't live without him, but MC is not like this. He can. Maybe I found even prefer that the ML died in the end and get to live a clear new life where he can really be happy and leave all his scars. But its not happening, so all I can do it hope for his happiness with MC.

Totally recommend. But read on your own responsibility.

Crematorium novels are fun when the scum gong deliberately hurts the shou. It's only when he is truly scummy that the atonement process is fun and the redemption arc feels well-earned. But when the ML unknowingly does scummy things, it's a misunderstanding. And when a misunderstanding is stretched for 60 chapters, it makes the characters look wooden, stupid and mind-numbingly obtuse.

Another thing that bothered me is that the author tells us through a one-chapter synopsis and some flashbacks about what happened in the previous life. The key point here is the author 'Tells' us and doesn't 'Show' us. The ML hurt the MC and so the MC turned indifferent. Must we believe this? A good story is presented, not told. A good writer creates a world, fleshes out characters, crafts dialogues and adds conflict. The reader then draws inferences and takes sides and forms opinions. That's when a reader is involved. That is when a reader is invested. When a writer simply tells you such and such thing occurred, it's not easy to get involved. It feels like a forced narrative.

I felt forced to sympathise with the MC. I felt like I couldn't completely hate the ML until I learned his side of the story. And that reveal happens 60 chapters into the book. It's aggravating to be forced to take sides without full information.

Now, some may argue that the ML poisoned, deposed and killed the MC and that is enough information. True. But, the ML is pitifully repentant and desperate to explain himself. He has also clearly rebooted the whole world for another chance with the MC. As a reader, this makes me sit back and think, 'Hey, there is something missing'. The MC dismisses all this as 'guilt' and asserts that the ML and some other characters are atoning for their own peace of mind.

It is ridiculously stretched out and the MC's indifference doesn't justify the hurt he puts ML through. And I say this purely because I do not know what the ML puts him through. It's not detailed.

I can sympathise with an indifferent MC but not a cruel one.

For instance, in thousand autumns Shen Qiao treats Yan Wushi with polite indifference. Not with cruelty. Not with vengefulness. But pure indifference. And when I say this, I talk about the emotional aspect of their relationship. He cares about him as a human being because Shen Qiao is a good person and would care about anyone who needs care.
This novel is ironically named 'Buddhist like Rebirth' and so I expected the MC to display the tenets of Buddism through his actions. But no, he feels obtuse and cruel and goes as far as to do to the ML what the ML did to him. Except, The ML doesn't do it intentionally or does it without knowing the extent of his actions. But the MC does it to make him feel pain. Is this indifference? No. This is vengefulness under the guise of indifference.

The ending was ridiculous and they shouldn’t have ended up together. They’ve both hurt each other beyond repair and I don’t think transmigrating into a modern world solves the past hurt. At least, the ML atoned. What about the MC?

The whole system, consciousness and
Lord God stuff was convoluted and outlandish.

Incredibly translated though.

More like a 3.5 because I really enjoyed so many aspects of this book! First of all, I love when the MC's love dies completely and they don't waver. Like the ML really fucked up and the MC stayed firm throughout. I also loved that the MC was always super logical and chill. I definitely enjoyed the first half better than the second half. It was nice to see the MC's growth but I also wanted more romance aspects. It didn't really feel like a romance book and because the MC kept pushing the ML away, there weren't a lot of scenes of them together. Ultimately, I decided to round down because although I really enjoyed it, I don't think I'd want to do a re-read. I'd definitely be interested to check out the author's other books though!

Summary: Fu Zhiyu is the Ninth Prince and has been in love and chasing after the young general Xie Ke ever since being saved by him. When Zhiyu becomes the Emperor, Xie Ke betrays him and kills him. Fu Zhiyu gets another chance when the world is rebooted but his love for Xie Ke has long died and now he's only interested in living a peaceful life with his family and friends. Xie Ke doggedly pursues Zhiyu and Zhiyu keeps trying to impress on him that no matter Xie Ke's reasons, their chance at love has already passed.

BEWARE of SPOILER

The universe was a webnovel written in the span of three years and published in 2014. The novel tells the story of Xie Ke, a concubine son, and his journey to be the Emperor. One of the cannon fodder in the novel was Fu Zhiyu, a ruthless prince who slaughtered his way to be the Emperor. In the novel, Fu Zhiyu meets his ultimate demise at the hands of Xie Ke.

However, the novel universe materialized and the plot derailed, caused by some bug that may pose a problem. And so, the Lord God decided to send an actor to play Xie Ke and brought the plot back to the original. Xie Ke was told another actor would also be brought into the universe. And so, when he saved Fu Zhiyu at the lake instead of the original female lead, he assumed the actor was Fu Zhiyu. He fell in love with Fu Zhiyu and told himself once the plot ended, they could be together. And so, he strived hard to bring the plot back to the original. And in the original, Fu Zhiyu must die.

After Fu Zhiyu died, only then Xie Ke knew he wasn't the actor. He was the bug. Under Xie Ke's hand, the universe reversed and became a free universe, meaning even as an actor, he wouldn't be OOC. Xie Ke came with the impression that the universe restarted not knowing that Fu Zhiyu was reborn. And so, the wife-chasing crematorium kick-off.

Knowing all of this, I knew I couldn't hate Xie Ke. He's not a scum ML. He's just stuck between a rock and a hard place.

I have zero criticism for this novel. The MC, after all the heartbreak and betrayal of the first life, had sufficient time to let go and reflect on his first life before his second life started, and it actually showed. When his 2nd life started he was world-weary, and the story showed this by action, not just description.
The story didn't have excessive angst or drama, what it has is just right - the story came across as feeling very mature, not relying on cheap drama or tricks to move the story along.
The story was only briefly told from the ML's POV, so it didn't give him enough depth (in comparison to MC), but he showed his regret using his action, which... after a whole lifetime of atonement, I couldn't muster any hatred for him anymore, similar to what the MC felt.
My problem now will be to find another novel that can sit on the same level as this one, as anything less will feel inferior and inadequate...

This was nottttttt for me, although I have to give credit where credit is due, the author gave the MC a backbone and had him stick to it. If that's your thing, then you'll probably like this, plus 40% of the latter (plot-driven? I guess?) half of the novel basically being abt the MC fixing problems that don't involve the ML at all. The last 5-10% of the novel was the actual reconciliation which I honestly sorta liked but I did not have the patience to struggle through most of the book to get there.....unfortunately I want to read crazy people doing crazy things for love that would get them locked up in prison IRL

I came into this story expecting a passionate love chasing redemption arc.
The romance part only truly comes in the very last chapters. I FELT LIED TO!!!!
It's an interesting take on rebirth, the main character deserves his buddha-like title, and I even wouldn't have minded reading this story without the romance at all.
However, it gets exhausting seeing him so cold and stoic in front of the romantic gestures of the main lead. I even started to feel bad for it!!!
I get what the author wanted to show the reader in this story, but in the end the romance parts were too unbalanced. Not enough warmth and heart-fluttering moments....
I finished the story with a bad aftertaste...

Overall this was a very nice story. I felt that the pacing in the second half was a little bit off; I didn't have an attachment to basically anyone besides the main characters in that section, so it was slow and a bit boring. With that being said, the final few chapters could have been an arc all on their own and I liked the ending.

This was well-written, the pacing was just right and the author made MC and ML’s relationship work even with all the baggage that came from their first life together.

Will probably not reread this for a long while (if ever) since it’s a heavy novel, or if I do, I’ll probably only read chapters 95+ since that’s when everything calmed down and started to sweeten.

This danmei story is good. It's just that there are many conflicts that make me cry all day because of the lack of communication between them.

3 stars because I don't like MC a bit. This time I sided with ML. Just a matter of perception and taste.

I say it really had different style of story developing. And I can understand the meaning behind the title as well as the approach of characters settings. It was a roller coaster emotions for the first half of the story. I can understand the mc’s actions and feelings. It is more realistic.

slight spoilers !!

This was a wild ride, but not in a wild way but an “ohmygosh how is the author going to actually write this as a HE.”

Honestly was surprised this was a HE, didn’t understand how the author was going to fix everything but they really did. The ML did a lot of horrible things, but he had a “reason”, does the reason make all the pain go away? No, of course not, and he suffers for it a lot (like he should). The MC obviously wants nothing to do with him, until the end honestly. Until the end he doesn’t really forgive him, but the author gives us a plot twist that had me a little shocked, even though I saw it coming lol. As we got near the end, I was crying a lot. This book is filled with angst, it doesn’t hurt like bricks, but you are being hit lol.

I absolutely loved the relationship between the MCs mom, and her side of the family + their friends. I wouldn’t label this book is a romance, because we have little of that. We have a slice of life, where the MC is just living the life he couldn’t in his previous one. He’s alive and well, with those he loves the most up till the end. Despite this not being the romance I was looking for, I found something amazing lol. Despite all of this, the rating was lowered to a 4 instead of a 5 because I didn’t really enjoy the plot twist? Or just the way it was written, the ending felt a bit rushed which is what made me not fully appreciate it.

HEY I'VE FINISHED IT!!!!

Finally after feels like a lifetime I've finished a book!

It was not very special or unique, I was truly looking forward to it ending.

The wife-chasing turned to husband-disciplining but that was all good and fine. I don't have much to say. Xie Ke truly went from a really low scum to a respectable guy who is truly made up of husband material.

Honestly the rape at the start of the story made me so fucking disgusted with Xie Ke and even to the end he had no excuse other than the thought that Zhiyu was also an actor.

The ending wasn't very special either. Mundane but sweet.

The whole story is mundane, the rating is 3 stars because I got through it and I am truly glad to have finished reading a book.

Not really a recommended read, tbh.

i did enjoy a lot of this, but then there was a whole chunk, maybe around the 75% mark, where it was about politics of the main character's domain (without the male lead at that). while i understood why the events needed to take place, it just kind of dragged on for so long.

i was just happy to see that the two could be happy together in the end!!!
