A Daughter of Triton #2

Triton's Prophecy

Rate this book
I’ve been chosen by the Gods and there’s no going back.

Triton’s Olympic Games are meant to test and push us to the point of no return. What better way to sort out the weak from the strong than by pitting us against each another on the field in front of thousands of spectators? Being an Elite should be fun... except, something is happening at the Academy that threatens me in every possible way.

Contestants in the games are being brutally slaughtered and the culprit hides within my school’s walls. It shouldn’t be a cause for worry, or so the Sons say. But when I become the murderer’s target, I’ll need to rely on the men I’ve come to think of as friends, as lovers, for protection before I end up dead.

Or maybe I’ll put my skills to the test and just save myself.

This was a great followup and the perfect segue into the end of Calliopes first year at the Academy. After another death plagues the campus, Calliope is fed up and wants answers. Vitas remains a likely candidate but being a giant bully doesn’t immediately make him guilty. Calliope expands her relationship more in this book and I’m eager to see how her group will grow to four and how each guy will handle it 🤓🥰 Most of her teachers remained openly misogynistic towards Calliope until an unsuspecting ally sticks up for her. It can’t be easy to be so easily disregarded and not lose your cool but for the most part Calliope manages calm and brings out the badass in her as necessary. I think there’s something weird going on with asshat Mr. Creed and the aunt but what that is I have no idea. Really enjoying this series but I really wish they spent more time in the water 🧜🏽‍♀️🧜🏽‍♂️

Triton's Prophecy is the second installment of the A Daughter of Triton series. In it, you are still following Calliope in her new school adventure. Of course, things still aren't easy. She's constantly looked down upon due to being a female. Like she had a choice in the matter before she was born. Ugh, men.

On top of trying to prove her worth, she still has to deal with Vitas being a psycho. Not sure what crawled up his butt and died, but he needs to figure out if he wants to kill her or date her. I'd rather he not be a part of her harem right now but maybe my opinion will change in the next book. Maybe it won't.

Then there's the whole murderer lurking throughout the school. Not really sure how the victims were chosen or who is behind the drugging either. Especially with the little cliffhanger in this. I just don't see the professor being behind it all. Maybe her opinion will change once she finds out that he's actually trying to solve it.

Other than that, I'm really enjoying how fast paced everything is. Definitely need to jump into the next book to see what the hell is going to happen next. I would also like more romance and to see who else will be in the harem.

So I didn't like this one as much for a few reasons. First half was fine but then it went everywhere. MC had a lot of weird mary sue-ness going on and some of the characters mysteriously had their issues resolved by like 1 or 2 sentences she says.

I think the one that made me cringe the most though was the MC was a Cheater Cheater McPumpkin Eater. And it was fine. lmfao. 0 consequences. maybe I'm the odd man out, but to me that's pretty cheatery. and yet nothing came of it lmao. Not even real anger. I don't actually care if there's cheating in books, some people are very sensitive to it though. And I feel like in this case, it was cheating in everything but name lol

Also i'm frusterated that not one thing was resolved xD this one was more about tension being built up more than plot continuing. I'm still reading the next one though, cuz I need to know the mystery. Also the Aunt has 0 chill or variety. 90% of her interactions is grabbing wrists and yelling. lmao

Okay. So before I start, let me tell you that I have no recollection of what the previous book made me feel.😅 Like the only things that I remember are that there was a murder, Vitas tried to kill Calliope and that Calliope was chosen as an Elite. She is in a relationship with Rafe and the other potential harem members are Ambrose, Maksim and Zathrian. I really don't remember the depth of their relationship or anything else, really🤷 My bad.

So here, Calliope is chosen to be an Elite amidst various cries of outrage from the common Atlanteans. The Olympic Games, a series of four trials to test the Elite is announced and the winners will become the Elite Sons (or in Calliope's case, Daughter) of Triton. These chosen few are now working hard in preparation for the upcoming trials. Meanwhile, there is another murder on campus. Calliope finds herself having romantic feelings for more than one man and Maksim is suffering from some unknown ailment.

A quick, well-written and fast-paced read. Provides good entertainment.

I loved the scenes where Calliope's father was there, especially the training session. Lol they were hilarious. Each of the guys have a good backstory and the emotions are well-written and realistic. An orphan without a family, an orphan who isn't able to take care of his family, the golden boy who no one understands and the brother who is overshadowed by the perfect one.

The relationships seemed a bit funny to me through. As I said, I don't remember my thoughts on the previous book so I'm not sure but in this book, people have started throwing around the 'L' word. In my understanding and limited recollection, I think Rafe and Calliope had a go at it twice and maybe had one heart-to-heart and Rafe is like I love her and started spouting the "She is mine" and "I'm-a-possesive-scary-man-who-will-not-share-what-is-mine" BS, though this makes me laugh in amusement rather than roll my eyes in annoyance. And then Ambrose and Calliope made love and had this deep talk and now Ambrose is like "I love her" and I'm just like "lol what's going on with you guys just because you guys know a lot about each other doesn't mean you are in love" but, whatever. Atleast each of them have a personality. Also, I feel like even though everything is moving forward, it wasn't nearly enough. Like stuff was mentioned and not explained and things like that.

Looking forward to the Olympic games now.

If you guys are looking for a quick and fun read, this one is for you. Be warned, there is a cliffhanger but I guess it doesn't matter much since the next book is already out.

Happy reading!

Where do I start?

Ceres had me feeling mighty salty this book, but it was a great follow up to the first and it answered a few questions but left me with more. Definitely a new favourite author of mine.

*spoilers below*
Okay, so we have Maksim, Rafe, Ambrose, and the professor.

I’m still not sold on Ambrose in this book. It still seems to me like he is interested in Calliope solely because she’s the one thing he couldn’t have when he wanted it and because she was the only person who preferred Maksim over him. Because Maksim had the short end of the stick all his life where his brother was concerned, I desperately wanted Maksim to get with Calliope before Ambrose. I understand why with the subplot going on with him, but it still made me hella salty. Just another thing Ambrose got without earning it. (His apology was lacklustre and Calliope should have iced him out for longer. Damn bum!)

The professor and her father are clearly in league together, but right now my brain isn’t building the bridge between WHY her father would want to kill students. I guess we’ll see in the next book.

What kept this from being a five star read is I didn’t love how her connection with Ambrose felt like cheating. Cheating is one of my least favourite tropes. Yes, Rafe said it was cool. But she didn’t know he would be at the time which still makes her guilty of cheating on Rafe. Which… not cool girl. Your coochie needs to chill. Have a discussion before you be giving it out. Damn!

We have the continuation from last time wherein Calliope has been chosen to participate in Triton’s Olympics Games. Besides, almost being killed and being bullied by both professors and other students, there is someone going killing her fellow students.

At the same time, her relationship with the guys are slowly developing and I just love how her father gets involve with her. It is quite hilarious. Although I’m still looking forward to her relationship with Maksim. I lose all hope in Vitas. I mean he probably has a chance to be part of her harem since he has his own POV but it would take awhile to warm up with the fellow.

I’m still quite curious about Calliope’s mother and I can’t wait for the next book. Anyway, we still got some hot scenes in this book and 2 of them are accepting of being with her. I wonder how it would turn out for the rest and about Maksim. I sort of have an inkling about his condition.

Looking forward to book 3.

2.5⭐️1.5/2 🌶️

So the plot is a great concept I just don’t know if the execution was enough.

The book felt like a lot of filler, yes there was character and relationship development but only with two of the love interest.

The story just felt like is being dragged and there wasn’t even badass moments to compensate the rest.

There was a lot of second hand embarrassment as well as some MEGA INSTA LOVE BS and the RH dynamic isn’t the best tbh still Im already invested so…

Not as good as the first. I really despise Vitas since he gets pretty close to SAing her. If he's in the harem I will legit rage.

She doesn't really talk about expanding her harem until after her current boyfriend catches them in bed together. This can be classified as cheating for some. Obviously there's a whole reason to the ending and it's not what we seem to but I bet Calliope will jump to all the conclusions and not communicate.

A little annoyed that alot of things happens and then are brushed off. She hides so much and doesn't do anything about it. Her 'strength' she shows is just her backing down imo. I thought we were going to get a stronger heroine to prove everyone wrong. Stupid how Calliope doesn't know what's wrong with Maksim if what he promised her was as strong as a magically binding oath. You would think something so important as that wouldn't be thrown around all willy nilly and forgotten about.

If you’re looking for a fun, entertaining and easy fantasy read then you really can’t go wrong with this series! Fast paced, engaging plot enough to hook you in. I particularly like the shorter chapter structures and the POV story-telling of the series! 😊 Marking as 4 star as this does for me land in the higher end of a 3 star (like 3.8/5!)

This one is short and feels a bit like filler. I really hope she gets things straightened out with Maksim. I think there will be a ton of action and (hopefully) the tying up of loose ends in the next one.

“Women were supposed to be soft, delicate, caring. I was these things. I worked hard at them; at being a gentle, comforting breeze. But I was also a storm. I was a clash of water and fire, of lightning and roiling waves. It lived within me when it wasn’t supposed to. And I loved it.”

📚

Okay so I frickin LOVED these books!!!!!!!! I really wanted something that could be a bit more light hearted after reading quite a few dark books recently and although there were quite a few super intense scenes this book was also HILARIOUS! I swear the characters in these three books were some of my favourites ever!! Calliopes men were just the best; brooding Rafe, manic Maksim, golden boy Ambrose, mysterious Zathrian and the evil asshole that is Vitas. I swear I want a bestie/lover like Maksim, he provided this book with some of the most incredible one liners that really had my wiping tears of laughter.
Calliope herself, gah, I’ve never read a stronger FMC in a book and she just reached into the feminist in me and had me rooting for her from the get go. This incredible story was of a strong willed woman trying to make her way in a mans world and I know we all know how that feels amiright. It really was a great all round trilogy and a pleasant read that had me hooked page after page!
I also loved all of the poems at the start of each book - I’m a sucker for a good authors note at the start of a book and having Nikita Gill in there did NOT disappoint😩

“I am strong because I am inherently myself. I am a storm against ships, the thunder and lightning in the sky. I can rage and destroy, I can be calm and soothing. Yes, I am a woman. But I am going to be a Daughter of Triton.” (Goosebumps or what?!?!)

"Fierce, determined. She was everything I could never hope to be. And everything I wish I was."

I'm just in love with this series. On Tritons Prophecy, we follow the story of Calliope right from where the first book ended. Having been chosen as an Elite to participate in Tritons Olimpic Games, Cal starts to get accepted into the misogynistic society that is the Academy. Not without difficulties, I must clarify.
In this sequel, we mainly get to see an improvement in Cal's relationship with her friends. Besides, the plot focuses on the murders that have been occurring around the academy. I have to admit, this was going to be a five-star read, but I hate cliffhangers.
I can't wait for the next book! I want to read about the Olympic Games and .

The revelations in this book! And the cliffhanger! Aleera, how could you?!?! (still love ya)

The story starts off at the end of book one. Calliope comes to terms with her developing feelings, her new relationship with Rafe tumbles to unstable ground threatening her loyalties as she confronts new and old feelings. Her relationship with her group of friends begin to develop into something else regardless of direction.

The plot twists are really beginning to alter our perspective of these characters. If you don't like cliffhangers, at least wait until the final book is published. I'm not sure when it should be expected, but it's soon.

okay

I love RH… it’s a great majority of what I read - but this just smacked of cheating. The main aspect of RH, aside from the absolute fantasy, is the trust and COMMUNICATION. She didn’t talk to her guy before she jumped into bed with someone else! There was no convo, no “I’m not keen on sharing, but open minded” - nada. It’s a good series that just got ruined that way for me…. Twice. And she makes that choice TWICE. Ah well. It bothers me, but it’s a decent trope that might appeal to others. The writing is good and the plot intriguing.

Reverse Harem Paranormal Romance

Just when you think you have this figured out , the story takes an unexpected twist ; then ends . You know who but you don't have a clue as to why. Calliope is a mixture of badassery and wimpy lol. Sometimes you cheer her on and others you want to smack her. I wanted to shake Maksim, comfort Rafe and hug Ambrose. I loved Aunt Clarissa. Now I want March to hurry up lol.

This second book is filled with so much excitement that you'll want book 3 as soon as you finish it. I loved the strength that calliope shows and how her character grows within the pages. The plot keeps getting better and better and the writing is phenomenonal. Tritons prophecy was a fantastic second book that you will definitely fall in love with.

Triton's Prophecy

Book 2 in a daughter of Triton series picks up after book one. Very good flow, the murders. The mystery of who done it. Calliope owning up to wanting to be with more than one, they are protecting her too. Excited for the next book.

I know some people might disagree but I couldn’t get past Cal being with Ambrose before talking about it with Rafe. I know it’s not meant as cheating because it’s a reverse harem but that’s what it felt like to me

I really liked book one and I was into this one until I came across somethings. From the beginning I knew these books were reverse harem and so of course I knew Calliope would have a relationship with multiple men. The problem for me was how the author went about it. Calliope was in a relationship with certain love interest(s) and without consulting him/ them went and slept with another just because she was attracted to him. Maybe I could be okay with this if their society was accustomed to polygamy, but that was not the case. For me it felt more like cheating and this is the first time I’ve experienced this in a reverse harem. It felt like Calliope only cared about herself and her desires. Most of the other reverse harems I’ve read the characters where clear from the beginning on the type of relationship they would have, and in this case it was like she was deceiving them without stopping to question if they would be okay with sharing.

I was also really thrown of by how Rafe easily accepted her decision to be with Ambrose since he was always insecure and though she would choose Ambrose over him since they would be a “perfect” couple. And there was also the fact the he was like “your mine” to which she replied “ I’m yours” and that definitely doesn’t feel like what a person who uttered those words would do.

Aside from my dislike with how the relationship was being handled there was also the fact that nothing was really happening with the plot. The only thing happening was the characters training, eating, and that a new corps was found. To make matters worst she wasn’t even progressing in her training. To be honest, it was the same as what happened in the first book.

***SPOILERS***

Calliope lost her mother when she was a young girl. Her father and her Aunt raised her. Her father is a well-respected warrior for the Sons of Triton. They are wealthy and her Aunt wants Calliope to be married off so she can start having babies. Calliope wants to follow in her father's footsteps. Calliope is then chosen by the Oracle to be the first "daughter" of Triton. She will attend the all-boys Triton Academy as the first female ever. There she begins a relationship with her roommate Rafe. Rafe's parents, Aunts and Uncles were murdered by the Sons of Triton because they worshipped the old God. We learn at the end, after Rafe and Calliope make love, that Rafe and his remaining family still worship the old Gods. Calliope also establishes a friendship with brothers Maksim and Ambrose and professor, Zalhria. She has an enemy named Vitas, another student at the academy who tried to kill her. They all are selected at the end of the book as Elite students to participate in the Olympics.

I like that Rafe resisted her almost the entire book. I like that he is currently a traitor and not just living the consequences of his parents' actions. Maksim seems like too much of a little brother to Calliope so I don't know how I feel about him becoming part of her harem. Ambrose seems to lack depth of character. And the professor...eh. This book kept my attention and I really like how things played out between Rafe and Calliope. However, I'm not interested enough in the other characters to continue reading the series. I did give this a 4 star because I haven't been able to finish a book in a long time. The fact that it held my attention to the end is a job well done!

Disappointing

At the start of the series, I was really excited to immerse myself in this world because it ticked all the boxes for me. I've been drawn to siren/mermaid-type books for a while, and I wanted to read another. When I saw this book on Pinterest, I decided to give it a try.

I knew this was a reverse harem, but I decided to read this for the storyline because I found that really interesting.

When the first book ended, I immediately jumped into the next one, hoping for it to be just as good as the first. Imagine my disappointment when I kept getting second-hand embarrassment every single 5 seconds.

!SPOILER ALERT!
“We are both her lovers. Equally… uh… we share her…”
Shit.
Why the fuck did I say those words to the general of Syros? He would kill me with his bare hands.
“Yeah,” Rafe growled the words. “We... do…” He seemed uncertain, and his head cocked to the side as he glared at me. Fucking bastard, his eyes seemed to scream.”

So fucking embarrassing. The author put so many moments like this I swear she was rage-baiting us.

When Rafe walked in on Calliope and Ambrose fucking I swear I was gonna lose it because tell me why Calliope is cheating on Rafe because she feels a connection to others.

“He smirked. “I’m furious. I fucking hate Ambrose Tallis. I want to punch him in the face. He’s a dick, and I don’t want to share you with him.”
“Share?”
He stroked my cheeks. “I was taught that the Gods are polyamorous. It’s... normal to want more than one person. Love should be shared. You’d be surprised at how many people feel this same way.”

If Rafe cheated on Calliope, this would have ended very differently due to him being a man.

Great 2nd book

Things are finally improving for Calli at the Academy and the professors are giving her chances to prove her worth now. The mystery of the murdered students provided an interesting and captivating plot to this book. Especially now that Calli was targeted and her revelation at the end. I have a feeling there is an explanation for what she has found that may not be nearly as nefarious as implied.

The steam and tension between her and Elara was hot!! I love those types of relationships that are forbidden and a constant push and pull because when they finally given in, it is passionate, fiery, spirited, and dramatic. That is exactly what the author delivered with those 2.

I still hate Vitas and I really don’t understand him being chosen as an Elite candidate so I’m curious to see what happens in the final book. The poor friend zoned Maks is sad for me to read so I hope to see that change soon. Ambrose being added into the mix was something I had expected to occur at some point but that seemed a little anticlimactic to me after finishing this book and the scene with the professor (Good lord that scene was hot!!)

🌟 solid 3 because it wasn’t terrible, it just wasn’t for me.

It’s been 5 years since I read book 1, and I feel every one of those years in these pages.
Obviously I did a re-read to get me up to speed for book 2, but now that I’ve started it…I have totally lost interest. 25% of the way through and every single relationship bothers me.

Basically, she fell way too quickly into love with the men, and with what foundation? A lot of the relationship building must be done off page because I haven’t seen it happening yet.
It also makes no sense that she’s from a monogamous society and yet has zero hangups about bursting to jump so many people. She’s literally holding one guys hand and lusting after another 🤷🏽‍♀️. If polyamory was a common (or even uncommon but seen) scenario then this would make more sense.
For a book with minimal plot but heavy romance, at least please make the romance make sense!

I also don’t like how she approaches some of them. Almost chases after them. Girl, no. We don’t chase. They come to us. 😅
That might be a me thing though.

Life’s too short to read a teenage book

See I knew it. Something was off about her teacher and I freaking knew it!

Also why the fuck did she have sex with him knowing damn well that is what she was just accused if doing by someone who hatesss her?!

This is pure stupidity also..he is her goddamn professor and she should have never did that like can you really not control yourself?? Was the desire so strong that logical thinking went out the window??

Also what is going with the younger tallis brother is he going to get out of this somehow? Dying? How ? Why?

What is going through Vitus’s head he literally tried to kill her and is constantly attempting to harm her in violent ways so why the ever loving freak would she like you??

Then she did fall for the professor and rafe who is HATED by her whole society so you know she just might I really wouldn’t be surprised..

What is her father up to and if what she saw is true and not somw coincidence …

Why is the professor killing students and was Calliope really a target or was he really trying to save her?

3.2: To be honest, reading this book I didn’t think I would continue the series, but the way the book ended I feel like I have to. I really wanted to enjoy these books. I really wanted more magic and storyline with this book but all I got was Calliope wanting every man she meets. There was so plot to this book other than people are dying, and I could see who it was from a mile away. I wasn’t shock, and that disappointed me. Again, I will read the last book to see what ends up coming of it all, but I am faced with the reality I might not like it. I really had hope with the Olympic Games being a fun and interesting part of the story but nothing ever happened with it and that was disappointing as well.
