Brent Peterson has been out of town and radio silent. But now his pursuit of The 10,000 has led him back to Arizona--sporting a fresh gunshot wound.
Emily is delighted to see him, but she's worried. Agent Nighthawk never fails a mission, but if she doesn't help him he just might fail this one.
There’s only one thing to do: pack her bags, her courage, and her best impression of a snobby heiress-and go undercover at a posh resort.
It’s the last-known location of the 10,000 agent Brent was tracking.
The man who shot him.

FTC DISCLOSURE: I received a complimentary copy of this book. A positive review was not required. These are my honest thoughts and opinions.
New HQ? Check. Callbacks to the previous books and short story? Check. If it’s even possible, higher stakes? Also, check. Basically the perfect beginning to season two. :D <3
I seriously had no idea how much I missed these, and I’m so happy right now. This installment started off with a bang and ended with one too. Brent and Emily were still a brilliant, adorable team despite Brent being a little out of commission, and he definitely managed to pull some CRAZZYYY stunts. XD Emily is always fun undercover, but I think this one takes the cake. She was so clever and her internal dialogue this time was especially funny. XD (Also, I need Derrick in charge of my wardrobe, because that dress = perfection.) While I’d take an entire book just of them bantering and *ahem* flirting at the coffee shop, it’s always fun to see them in the field, and I can’t wait to see what they do next.
Santa was surprisingly epic in this one, and the new character (who shall remain nameless) was a fun addition. O.o. Also, why can’t new HQ be real and have job openings?!! I won’t spoil anything, but it’s about as epic as you can get. XD
And could an epilogue be any more perfect?! <3
Just a note, there were some mentions and brief descriptions of blood in relation to a gunshot wound. There was also some peril including kidnapping.
Best quotes: She stood and shook her head. “I must be glad to see you. I’m talking to you even while you’re unconscious.”
Brent snorted with laughter, squeezing his eyes shut and shaking his head. “Don’t make me laugh and fall off this chair.”
Altogether, I can’t wait for the next book. ;)
(And that random tech who Googled “how to kill wasabi burn” is my personal hero. :P )
Season stats so far... Codenames: one (from the short story) + another near-miss Car crashes: surprisingly, none Awesomeness level: 107%
(I highly recommend reading the short story "Right Number" before reading this book. It is available on the author's website: https://perrykirkpatrick.com/right-nu... )
2024 reread Grinning at Emily/Emma again. So fun! And Brent really needs to take better care of himself.
2023 Yep, this one is still a top favorite if not THE top favorite of this series. At least for me so far. Emily cracks me up!
2021 I found myself smiling so many times and even laughing while I reread this book. The idea of sweet Emily as a snob is just too funny. And her insults! This is probably my favorite book in the series. Just one more to reread and then . . .
2020 4.5 stars Another delightful story. As usual, this story had me reading without a break until I reached the end. I loved the fact that Emily got to talk to her dad, and that he had a buddy she could call. There is blood in this story since someone gets shot, but it’s not graphic, and I appreciated the fact that the author didn’t make this person miraculously well a few days later. I think I might have enjoyed this story even more than the first 6 because it made me laugh so many times! Emily acting like a snob had me cracking up, and when she told herself she wasn’t very nice . . . Well, I had to laugh again. This was just what I needed. I would recommend this story.
5+ stars (8/10 hearts). I just reread all of season one before reading this book, and I can confidently state that THIS is my favourite Emily Abbott book so far.
Emily was AMAZING as a spy and OH MAN “Emma Marks” is absolutely hilarious! And I couldn’t help liking Donati a lot, for some reason... XP The relationship between the two was hilarious. Also I love Brent & Emily’s friendship;) ;) And I was so happy at her father’s cameo appearance—hope he shows up again. I really want them reconciled!!
Finally, the plot was THE BEST, and the excitement wasn’t missing from this book either. 5 shining stars to Emily for sure! :D I’m very curious what new puzzle pieces this has provided… And I just can’t wait for the next book! I have read this series so many times now and it is seriously one of the best series I have ever read. It’s THAT good.
A Favourite Humorous Quote: “[Derrick] was rummaging through ... another work table. After a moment, he triumphantly retrieved a black radio. Keying the mic, he said in an undertone, ‘This is Wardrobe to Infirmary and whoever else is looking for him: Agent Nighthawk is in here.’ “The radio squawked after a moment. ‘Thank you, Derrick. We'll come fetch him.’ “‘Brent? Did you break out of the infirmary?’ Emily asked[.] ‘You're supposed to be resting that shoulder.’ “‘I'm feeling fine. Just the teensiest bit sore.’ He held his thumb and index finger together by way of illustration. ‘I got stitches! Do you want to see them?’ “‘Not particularly,’ Emily said quickly[.]”

I think that Five Star Spy is possibly the best of the entire series (so far). Firstly, I love seeing Brent and Emily undercover, mainly because (almost unbelievably) the author is able to keep them from telling lies even in awkward situations - something which I admire very much. Secondly, I loved seeing more of Santa. He really is the Best! Brent must be an impossible patient! Emily was so hilarious as Emma Marks. And her insults... XD And even when he's injured, Brent is still one of my favourite book characters. He and Emily make the perfect team.
I could go on forever. There are so many things I love about this book that I could never mention them all. An excellent beginning to Season 2!
Ahh this was great! Things are getting better and better for certain individuals! I loved all the action in this book. Emily just needs to be a real spy, for goodness sakes. Agreed?!
Oh my goodness! That was sooooo good! I loved this one!!!
Characters: Emily was absolutely as amazing as Emma Marks! She was so witty and just played the part so well! I loved it! Izzy as always is so great to see in the books! She's just so fun! Brent, I love him! He's definitely stubborn and a horrible patient but such a nice and witty guy it's hard to stay mad at him...lol....at least for me.
Language: N/A
Romance: Brent is sooo cute in how worried he get's about Emily! It's just....Awksaanfsueibfoi...I can't! And then Emily got worried about him and the two of them! Ack!!!!!!
Overall: I really enjoyed this one! It was so much fun and just awesome to see how they both reacted to different situations! I loved it!!!
This was fun! It was a little more intense than some of the others because it had more real spy-action stuff, which I loved. Emily was perfection as Emma Marks! I also really like how Emily and Brent’s relationship has progressed throughout the series: slowly, quietly, starting with friendship and gradually getting deeper. Is it still ridiculous that Emily gets these jobs with no training? Yes, but it’s so much fun! And I’m so sad that I’m almost done with the series…
I can no longer pick just one favorite in this series. I absolutely LOVED this one! Everything from the ice blue color on the cover, to the mission, to the characters (even the villain). Emily was at her best in this and made a perfect diva in her own nerdy way. We don't see as much Brent as usual but that's because Emily was *wink wink* the star. I gushed and grinned way too much. I now know why I always wanted to call her Emma in the beginning. It all makes sense now, lol. Such a fun and exciting adventure! The humor in this was perfect.
I think this may have taken the spot the number two spot in this series (My favorite is still number two). It. was. epic. Not only was the case great (gotta love all Emily's mental notes), but Emily and Brent's relationship is officially now in the cutest stage. Seriously, they are adorable. I love how protective he is of her, and how she is always encouraging him. They are one of the cutest fiction couples ever. The only thing I didn't love was Brent being loopy after getting hurt. It was supposed to be funny, but it just was not my thing. =P Overall, fantastic book. Go read it.
Oh my goodness!! I LOVE this series!! Seriously, there is not one thing I would want to change about them... That is, other than I wish there were more for me to read 😅 Emily and Brent’s bantering was hilarious in all the books and the adventure had me holding my breath; waiting to see what happened. Amazing books! 😉
Eeeeeeep!!!!! How did I ever survive this long without a new Emily Abbott book?!? As usual, this was just...fantastic. <3
Brent! What on earth!?! You really, really, really need to take care of yourself better than that. *glares* Also, the coming-off-sedation thing... *bursts into barely suppressed giggles all over again* And Emily, still managing to be totally off-the-cuff incredible while juggling concern and uncertainty and "wow, this is so cool" reactions...along with pulling off the most hilariously annoying undercover persona ever and managing to keep more than your average number of secrets from a whole range of people, including a super-perky and sweet best friend who can't be blamed for not knowing she's on a spy mission... Was that non-sentence long enough? Because I could definitely make it go longer. ;) Also, for my ongoing list of "how to be an accidental spy" tips, where do I pick up a useful family friend/random contact like Rash? (Seriously, though, he was awesome! I really hope we'll see him again sometime. :D) And I really enjoyed getting to see a bit more of Santa...and a little behind that cool exterior... <3<3
Of course, Brent's protectiveness over Emily's part in the mission was to die for, albeit with a little different flavor than normal, since she gets to be rather protective herself for once. And the chemistry between them is just so, so perfect... I honestly think I ship these two harder than the leads in a lot of romances I've read! XP And now I really, really want to know what's going to come out of the epilogue! I already can't wait for the next book! <3<3<3
Content--mentions of gunplay and violence; mentions of cursing (no words); mentions of blood and wounds (not graphic); mentions of various kinds of illegal activity; vague threats
Eek!! OK, how can this series just keep getting better and better?! I have three words: Brent and Emily. Oh my heart, this was awesome!! Emily does great undercover. . . especially when Brent is highly against it! The poor guy. The beginning bullet-wound scene was so awesome. Emily needs to join ICS!
I really, really love this series and I really enjoyed this latest installment. It was fun to see Emily take to a new roll and the banter was great. And that ending... I'm so ready for the next episode.
Um...is it possible to give a book more than five stars? Because this one deserves it. Wow! At only 30%, this book had blown the other Emily Abbott stories out of the water (in a good way, of course). These books just keep getting better! I was squealing on the inside towards the end. Finally!!! Brent + Emily...I won't spoil it too much, but that got me excited! After binge-reading the entire available series, now I actually have to wait on the next book!? Oh, please come soon! Content: Still clean! There were a few mentions of a bar and alcohol, but nothing about it was portrayed in a positive light (so it still counts as definitely clean!). There was blood and a wound mentioned here, but nothing in extreme detail. Just beware if you're very sensitive to that sort of thing. Still no bad language or anything inappropriate! Emily did have to flirt a little (she was not happy about that, I assure you. We're of the same opinion there: flirting like that? Gross!), but it was comical and clean.
This was definitely the funniest book out of the series so far; it even made me laugh out loud several times. I enjoyed Emily’s acting skills, as well as her random thoughts at the most random moments. I also loved the ending; it left me wanting more!
Content warning: This book (as the first in the series, I believe) contains excessive mention of blood. (Only at the beginning. The rest is back to comedy.)
Favourite Quotes:
“‘Stop. Grinning. Like. A. Fool,’ she told herself.”
WHERE TO BEGIN??? I LOVED this book. Still popping my Kindle open every so often to read that finish, 'cause . . . wow. So good. =) I especially appreciate that the author takes extra care to keep her characters dressed modestly (I know, that seems like such a small thing, especially in books, but to me it's huge!). And who can't help but smile at all the goofy codenames Brent assigns? Or the jokes he makes with Emily? Or the personality made out for "Emma Marks"? As the series develops, the relationship between Emily and Brent does, too. And yet it's still clean and perfect for readers of almost any age. I will admit the party scene with Donati made me feel a little uncomfortable, but pancakes and wasabi sauce? Boy, I'm gonna be laughing for days!! ;) To sum up: five stars for the Five Star Spy!! You need to check this series out NOW if you haven't already. I'll be keeping an eagle-eye out for book #8!
A fantastic continuation of Emily’s stories. I love these for what they are: quick, clean, and funny reads. A bit on the corny side, but I am still addicted to them.
There were a few mentions of praying, but again, that is about the extent of Christian content.
The feelings between Brent and Emily are amping up.
There is a little more... blood than the previous books, but not exactly gore, as it didn’t go into too vivid of details.
Afjkrsjdflkaahh!!! I was waiting (in)patiently for this latest installment of the Emily Abbott series and this didn't disappoint. So many fun moments, and watching her interact as Emma Parks made my day. 😂 I NEED MORE NOW!! She and Brent are adorable.
Latest installment, and now I'm sad that I binge read the entire series last night and today and now have to wait on the next one!! Loved this one and all the undercover shenanigans with Emily being pulled into a case again. And so much cuteness at the end! Halp.
I've loved all the books so far, but this may be one of my favorites. The undercover aspect was so fascinating and the start of the book...wow, talk about engaging 😉
Finished it the day it came out :) Can't wait for the next one! These books are such fun, love the characters and the fun story. An enjoyable read. So happy to have authors like this as there isn't enough clean, fun, creative books out there!
