Young widow Joanna Watson is struggling to make a new home for her five-year-old son, Samuel, in the little mountain town of Settler's Fort. When she returns home from work to find Samuel and the woman watching him missing, with no lawman in town, she enlists a man she prays has enough experience in this rugged country to help. Isaac Bowen wants nothing more than a quiet, invisible life in these mountains, far away from the bad decisions of his past. But he has a strong suspicion of who's behind the kidnapping, and if he's right, he knows all too well the evil they're chasing. As they press on against the elements, Joanna fights to hold on to hope, while Isaac knows a reckoning is coming. They find encouragement in the tentative trust that grows between them, but whether it can withstand the danger and coming confrontation is far from certain in this wild, unpredictable land.

I had opted for this book because I had read "Hope's Highest Mountain" by Misty Beller and was very impressed. The story was simple and sweet, the writing immediately making a connect to your heart. When I saw that this book was part of the same series, I jumped at the opportunity. And I wasn't disappointed.
The lead characters in this book, Joanna Watson and Isaac Bowen, both make their appearance in the first book. I was hoping then that the two of them would get a happy ending some time in the future. I'm glad this book gives them exactly that.
"Loves Mountain Quest" begins with a tragedy. Joanna's little son, Samuel, and her friend Laura Hannon have been kidnapped by a couple of brutes. Like any mother, Joanna immediately decides to locate her son and her friend in the mountainous area, and Isaac is her support and guide on this dangerous quest.
Joanna Watson's strength was visible in the first book and establishes itself further in this. Isaac too continues his strong silent and reliable nature from the first book. So that's the main thing I want to appreciate the author for. Just to fit the requirements of the story, she doesn't change their characteristics as narrated in the first book. Rather, she turns the story to fit the characteristics of the characters. And it's the perfect approach. Though reading the first book isn't necessary, I'll glad I did. It gave the perfect background to Joanna and Isaac.
It hardly takes a few pages for the thrill to begin in this book. And it doesn't cease till the end. The whole story is gripping and easy-flowing. Though it's a fairly long book at 330+ pages, the storyline and the writing makes you complete it quickly.
Does that mean a 5 star rating? Unfortunately no. I do have a few quibbles with the book.
*****MINOR SPOILERS IN THIS PARA***** Some of the decisions taken by the characters seem totally illogical and no rational person would take such steps under those circumstances. Just to give one example, if someone offers to secretly help the kidnapped person escape by writing a note about the plan, the kidnapped wouldn't ever keep that note tucked in her clothes but destroy it so that the other brutes don't find it. Also, the beloved characters from book 1, Ingrid and Micah Bradley, are mostly missing in this book except for a very brief appearance by Ingrid in the epilogue. I really would have liked a little more of them. *****END OF SPOILERS*****
I still quite enjoyed this book and will recommend it to my friends for sure.
My rating: 4.25/5.
A question to the author: Will the next book be about Laura Hannon? I'm still deciding whom I want her with: Aaron or Nate.🤭😁
With thanks to NetGalley and Bethany House Publishers for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

1.5 stars...not quite okay Overall, I think I was extra disappointed because I connected so easily with the characters in the first book. I really liked Joanna in that one and was looking forward to hearing her story.
When Joanna’s son disappears, she has to set out on a quest to find him. Along with her comes a single man and soon sparks fly. That’s where I quickly lost touch with the sense of reality. Most mothers I know would be 100% crazy focused on finding that kid again. I mean, in book 1 we saw just how much Joanna had lost and how much that one child meant the world to her.
Until Mr. Perfect walked in. Mr. Perfect who wants to let her kiss him but not ever consider marriage. Mr. Perfect whose body is perfection too, and who she lusts after even while helping patch him up after an injury. Who she wants to make out with so badly that they leave a horse bleeding out after a wolf attack while they stop for heavy breathing and kissing. Sorry, but that just doesn’t work for me.
I did want to hear more about Laura, though I didn’t think it realistic that a murderer and thief wouldn’t take what he pleased right off on day 1. But of course the girl needed to be unsullied for the good guy in book three...I really lost the reality of the danger because the bad guy wasn’t even greedy enough to be consistent. Not that I want a rape scene. I just felt the bad guy was more of a stock character than anything else. He didn’t scare me.
Anyway, I hit overload on sensuality and lust in this one even though it didn’t quite cross the line to not be clean...it just played the line and focused way too much on sexual tension, both consensual and non.
I’ll be trying the third book but I’m not as excited for it as I had been for this one.

Love’s Mountain Quest is the second book in the Hearts of Montana Series. It is 1867 in Settler’s Fort, Montana. Joanna Watson’s son Samuel and Laura, the woman caring for him, are missing, and the sheriff is dead. In order to find them, Joanna enlists the help of the reluctant Isaac Bowen, a man who would prefer to stay in the shadows. Joanna and Isaac pursue the kidnappers on horseback, dealing with dangers from wildlife and the rugged terrain as well as from the kidnappers they are chasing.
This book has a positive message of God’s forgiveness, no matter how grievous the sin. The description of the Montana wilderness is beautiful. However, there are some unrealistic situations. For instance, Joanna is distracted by romance and desire, which seems improbable for a mother trying to rescue her kidnapped son. On another occasion, an injured horse is left to bleed temporarily while two characters share a kiss.
There is a strong message in the novel’s overall theme, which is that you can start over, no matter the circumstances. I couldn't get past the unrealistic situations where the author seems to think romance is more important than missing children and dying animals.
I received a free copy of this book from the publishers and Historical Novels Review. My opinions are my own.
I read the first book in the series and really was impressed with it. This book was very realistic, too much so for my taste. A wolf attack on a horse is describes in detail and a wolf gets shot in the throat. Yes, I know things like this did happen for survival in the wilderness but for an animal lover myself it was very hard to read. I also don't understand how the woman could have romance on her mind when she was in the wilderness seeking her kidnapped son. As a mother romance would be the last thing on my mind as I frantically searched for my son. I've always been impressed by this authors work and I do plan on reading more by her I just hope the next book isn't so graphic.
June 30, 2020 published. I was given a complimentary copy of this book. Thank you. All opinions expressed are my own.
"He'd thought he'd buried that past and become someone respectable. But it turned out the past could creep up and catch a man. Make him regret those mistakes a hundred times over."
This second installment in Hearts of Montana series is a little different from the other Misty Beller's books I've read. The story picks up with Joanna, a recently widowed young woman struggling to raise her little boy alone, and Isaac, a mountainman who makes his living off the land, combining their efforts to track down and rescue Joanna's kidnapped son and friend. Joanna and Issac were introduced as secondary characters in the first book and this book feels like a continuation of the first story but with a shift in the main characters. I don't remember feeling that way through her Heart of the Mountains series or Call of the Rockies series. So if you haven't read the first book Hope's Highest Mountain, it would be better to read that first to fully appreciate this story.
The plot is a bit different, too, in this story. The bulk of the plot deals with Joanna and Isaac chasing after the villains who took Joanna’s son Samuel and her friend Laura. The chase, though it is still a race for survival, feels somewhat different from the author's usual trek of survival in the wintery wilderness. Despite these differences, the author's trademark description of the inescapable beauty of the untamed land and accidents/tangles with nature and wildlife that will have your heart jumping in your throat is still vivid throughout the pages of this book. Isaac has a shameful past that he must acknowledge in order to help with the rescue and his full acceptance and embrace of God's forgiveness for his past also has the author's trademark touch.
If you enjoy historical romance, you will surely enjoy this series. I received a copy of the book from Bethany House Publishers via Celebrate Lit Tours and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.
The romance was too heavy for my taste and was inserted in odd places, reminding me I was being told a story rather than keeping me completely immersed in it. Firstly, the leading lady was all hot and bothered over a man while she was supposed to be fretting about where her missing son was. Isn’t it just terrible when the feller she’s asked to come and help hunt down the jerks who stole her son was suddenly much more concerned about rescuing the boy than she was? This didn’t make any sense to me, having previously read the first book in the series and seen first-hand how attentive to and protective of her son Joanna was. Funny how being around a handsome fellow didn’t distract her from that goal in the previous book but all of a sudden was distracting her left and right in this one. Inconsistency from book to book in series is one of my pet peeves.
Secondly, the lady discovered that the horse was injured and decided she needed better lighting to see the extent of the injuries, to see if the horse would make it or needed nursing or who knew what all. So what did she do? Promptly fell into the arms of the hero and smooched him to death. Forget about the horse in misery over in the background. Forget that she was sooooo concerned with maybe the skin was torn up and maybe it needed stitches. Forget the urgency to care for the horse that she felt milliseconds ago. Nope. The only thing on her mind this instant was kissing the tonsils out of this here feller who’d been so generous as to help her rescue her son.
Oh wait. They hadn’t even rescued him yet. Silly me.
Now that those negatives are done and over with, let’s talk the good stuff. There were a few things I adored about this story. In fact, I loved most of the story. It was truly only the above issues that stole the wind out of this book for me. Everything else was quite enjoyable.
As soon as I realized it featured Joanna and her son—the mother and son from book one—I was thrilled. They had wriggled their way into my heart last time, and I was happy they were featured in the spotlight this time around. Once again, we were then introduced to supporting cast members who added their own special touch of awesomeness to the overall storyline. Laura was amazing and so protective of Joanna’s son. I enjoyed getting to know her.
Just as with the first story in the series, this one was action-packed. I wish the journey wouldn’t have been bogged down in the too-heavy romance (as mentioned above), because the action got buried beneath that mess. The scene with the wolves reminded me a little of the wolf scene in the animated Beauty and the Beast movie I grew up watching, so that was fun. The setting of Montana mountains was great, but it did feel a little bit regurgitated from the previous book, as both were hikes over mountains through the entire story. If there is a third story in this series, I would love to see at least half the story take place in a small mountain town rather than become yet another trek through the mountains. I liked very much that a mountainman was featured. This is fairly rare in my reading habits, but it was definitely a neat feature that reminded me of aspects of Little House on the Prairie and the quirky characters Laura Ingalls met in her childhood and growing-up years.
Content: sexual innuendo, heavy kissing in at least two spots, suggestions throughout that rape will be forthcoming
Boy, this one jumped right into the action! I felt like I quickly got to know Joanna and Isaac quickly through their actions and thoughts as they desperately search for her kidnapped son and friend. We experience the author's trademark perilous journey through the wilderness with various dangers and trying conditions. I was surprised that tracking the outlaws took up so much of the book, but it turned out that this was a long game situation since Isaac had a secret past that gave them an advantage in the pursuit. It's a mixed blessing since it brings more issues for Joanna to deal with after she's fallen for the rugged mountain man- overcoming mistrust and relying on the good man he is now. The scenes with the outlaws and Laura, the young woman they are holding captive, are a bit disturbing, which heightens the tension and suspense. I appreciated the spiritual message of turning to God in faith during our darkest hours, and also the theme of redemption and forgiveness. I'm glad that the next book in the series is about Laura so we can see her healing process from all she went through.
(I received a complimentary copy of the book; all opinions in this review are my own)
Love’s Mountain Quest is the second book in the Hearts of Montana series, yet it can be read and enjoyed as a stand alone novel.
Isaac and Joanna, who appeared as side characters in book one, Hope’s Highest Mountain, have a hard journey ahead of them before they reach their happily-ever-after. The harrowing trek to rescue Joanna’s son, Samuel, and Joanna’s friend, Laura, helped to move Isaac and Joanna’s friendship into a deeper relationship where love began to grow.
There were plenty of problems along the way and reasons that Isaac did not feel worthy of Joanna. There was also a clear faith message in the story and I appreciated that the reader could see that Isaac had changed a lot since his younger years and was definitely trying to follow God’s leading in his life. I’m looking forward to reading the next book of the series!
(4.5 stars)
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
"Love's Mountain Quest" is a romance set in 1867 in Montana territory. It's the second book in the series. The two main characters in this one apparently met in the previous book, but you can understand this book without reading the previous one. This book really is one very long chase scene. The bad guys kidnap a young woman and Joanna's son. Joanna and Isaac set out after them just hours after the kidnapping, but they can't catch up due to accidents and mishaps. After a few days, they seemed more focused on how attractive the other was (despite injuries, lack of baths, etc.) and in intensely kissing each other. Personally, I found the viewpoint of the kidnapped Laura to be more interesting and suspenseful.
The characters had very modern sensibilities, though. For example, at the end, the women were busy feeling guilty that a bad guy (who was going to hang for murder) had been shot dead in self-defense rather than feeling elated that this very evil character would never harm anyone again. None of the viewpoint characters were willing to shoot to kill, even if it meant they or someone else might die because of that decision. In another case, the bad guys made it clear that they planned to rape Laura and kill all of the hostages soon. Yet when a bad guy was injured along with a horse, the hostages didn't take this opportunity to escape but instead stayed to help the horse. I love horses, but really? Let the bad guys deal with their injured horse.
The characters made a lot of baffling decisions, like one hostage managed to get a gun and could have used it but instead hid it where the bad guys might, maybe, take Laura to use the bathroom in hopes that she might find and use it. Or a horse lost a horseshoe, and Isaac used a rock to pound two bent nails in to secure the horseshoe (cringe) along with a leather strap to somehow tie the shoe on. The horse didn't really need horseshoes, so it would make much more sense to remove the other shoes rather than chance laming the horse with his method. And what is it with men knocking armed women to the ground to "protect" them rather than helping by attacking the threat?
Anyway, the Christian theme was Isaac struggling to accept that he is a new creation in Christ. He had accepted Christ but still felt guilty about poor choices in his past. There was no sex or bad language.
I received an ebook review copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley.
LOVE'S MOUNTAIN QUEST is a story about a man's and woman's journey as they try to save her young son and friend from the hands of a ruthless gang. Both parties are fraught with danger as they travel, but find unexpected help and possible love as the story unfolds. Elements of faith are weaved throughout. Beller gives fans another trademark adventure through a harsh and untamed but beautiful wilderness, with characters readers can't help but cheer on.
I really enjoyed the first book in this series and was looking forward to reading Isaac's and Joanna's story. The beginning set things in motion quite well, as I could feel Isaac's yearning for something more, and Joanna's love for her son, but also her exhaustion as she tries to provide for their life. Then things change when Joanna finds her son, and her friend who was caring for him, missing. Isaac gets to be her hero as he travels with her to bring them home.
I enjoyed the journey and learning more about these characters. These characters faced some really difficult things and weren't immune to the pains of travelling fast, injuries and danger. The story did feel a bit slow to me in parts and the romance came on a bit strong in places (plus some of the wording was weird, like labeling a guy's muscles as having a richness to them). I would have liked the romance aspect to come a bit later in the story and feel more realistic to the situation. I also felt parts were unrealistic when dealing with the gang and in a little boy's recovery. The faith aspects I thought were done well—nothing felt too preachy or forced. The end was particularly sweet and was probably my favorite part of the story.
In the end, was it what I wished for? Overall, this was an enjoyable read. I wanted more from it, but I have learned with this author that some of her characters I connect with better than others, and some of her stories work better for me than others. I'm looking forward to the next adventure in book three of this series!
Content: Some innuendo and violence, but clean. Source: I received a complimentary copy from the publisher through Celebrate Lit, which did not require a positive review. All opinions are my own.
When Joanna Watson's young son goes missing, along with her friend Laura, she turns to the one man she knows she can rely on, the mountain man who helped see them safe to Settler's Fort. Isaac Bowen is determined to bring the Samuel and Laura back safely and finds that he can't refuse Joanna when she insists on accompany him. But as they track the men who have kidnapped them, there are hardships and difficulties to overcome, not least of which is the consequences Isaac may have to face when he reveals his shameful past to the woman he has come to love.
In this second book of the Hearts of Montana series, author Misty M. Beller again brings out the core of strength that makes her characters survivors. Interspersed into the story of Joanna and Isaac's journey is the struggle of Laura and Samuel to survive the violence, deprivation, and the threat of worse - and for Laura, more personal - treatment at the hands of their kidnappers.
While this story does seem to have a disconnect between the danger Joanna's son is in and the romance thread, the overall story outweighed that concern for me as Beller portrays the natural and man-made dangers of the American frontier while also showing both evil that man can do and the yearning to live a better life, defined by faith, regardless of circumstances. With Laura and one of the outlaw gang members as the central couple in book three, I am looking forward to continuing this rugged Historical Christian Romance series.
Definitely another one for the reread shelf as Misty M. Beller is on her way to becoming a must-read author for me.
This review refers to a temporary digital galley that I voluntarily read through NetGalley, courtesy of the publisher (and a library ebook, too). An honest review was not required and this contains only my own, honest opinions.
This is a very compelling and exciting story. From the opening chapter Joanna is on the trail of her kidnapped son and her friend and she will stop at nothing to rescue them. Isaac is the perfect hero to help her rescue her son and her friend. He has a bit of bad boy past and he has a history with the kidnappers. I liked Isaac a lot. The story moves well and kept me invested in the characters and the story. For me however, the story was a little much, especially when the kidnapped child was only 5, There was just too much of the story for my taste. Overall, the story is good, I just would have liked it better if some of the violence and drama was dialed back some. It just didn't click for me as well as the first book in this series did. I will read book three because I do want to see what happens to the characters and see how the series ends.
Misty Beller is a new author for me. And while the book description intrigued me on a surface level, I was quickly immersed in this story on a much deeper level from practically the first page. With constant action and rich descrip-tion, the desperation of a mother to find her kidnapped child is all too apparent. My own mother’s heart was stirred as I was caught up in the raw emotions of this story. Although there is a romantic element to this book, it is only one layer to the drama, danger, and suspense streaming from the pages. Love’s Mountain Quest proved to be a fast paced read, riveting and compelling, easily attracting your entire focus from cover to cover.
I highly recommend this book. I know I will be searching for other books by this author!
I received this book from Netgalley. All opinions are my own.
'She struggled to believe the Almighty heard her tiny cry.'
When Joanna Watson, a young widow, needs Isaac Bowen's help to rescue her kidnapped son and friend, she finds she must also guard her heard from this quiet, strong man. Isaac just wants to live a quiet life after being delivered from a despicable past. But he is finding it very difficult to stay unaffected by the young widow.
'He'd long ago stopped letting his past rise up to haunt him.'
Misty Beller takes us along on a dangerous trek through the mountains of Montana as Joanna and Isaac follow the kidnappers, men who form a dangerous and deadly gang. We also get glimpses into the outlaws' camp as they terrorize the young son of Joanna and her friend. We feel every emotion as things go from bad to worse, with both hoping and praying for God's protection and deliverance.
Both journeys are harrowing but these folks are relying on God at every turn to see them through. Beller's writing just keeps getting better and better and I never miss a new release.
*My thanks to Bethany House Publishers for a copy of this book via Net Galley. The opinions in this review are entirely my own.
After meeting Joanna Watson and Isaac Bowen in Hope’s Highest Mountain, I so enjoyed experiencing their story in Love’s Mountain Quest.
When widowed Joanna returns home to find her son kidnapped, she must turn to Isaac for the help she needs to rescue him. Together, they journey through the mountains in desperate pursuit, and to overcome the perilous obstacles before them, they must rely on each other and their faith.
Love’s Mountain Quest is not only a fast-paced read, but also one that transports readers to the rugged, yet picturesque mountains of Montana. It is an adventure, for sure, from beginning to end, and just what I needed right now. I am excited to see where Misty M. Beller’s Hearts of Montana series goes next.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and the opportunity to provide an honest review. I was not required to write a positive review, and all the opinions I have expressed are my own.
I adore Misty M Beller’s books and was excited to have the opportunity to read the second installment from her Hearts of Montana series, Love's Mountain Quest. I just loved this faith filled story. Isaac and Joanna are wonderful characters that learn some valuable life lessons that we all could learn from. I enjoyed taking a journey with them and seeing the beautiful setting. There is, also, some unpredictable action that I never knew what was going to happen next. It was great taking the great adventure.
I would give Love’s Mountain Quest one hundred stars if I could. It was that good! I try to be patient waiting for the third book from the Hearts of Montana series. I highly recommend this book for readers who love clean historical romance with a powerful message.
I received this book from the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.
This is my first book by Misty M. Beller and it was amazing. Her story draws you in from the first line.
"The woman stood in the wind, skirts billowing, hair flying, as though the gusts swept away all her inhibitions."
I mean after a description like that you can't help but continue reading and want to know more. The story is about young widow Joanna and her five year old who gets kidnapped along with Laura Hannon, the young woman that watches him. Isaac Bowen is the gentleman that feels a strong pull to Joanna but has never shown his feelings towards her. When Joanna finds out that her little boy Samuel is missing, she goes for help and runs into Isaac who immediately enlists himself to help her find him. They set out on the trail on the mountains of Montana which is very rough terrain and not something that Joanna is used to. But she is desperate to find her son. You can definitely relate to her as a mom and can feel her desperation as she gets frustrated when they don't go as fast as she would like to go or don't reach him when she wants to.
Even though Isaac will do anything to help Joanna inside he is battling with his own demons. He knows the group that took Samuel and although he knows God has completely forgiven him for his past he still struggles with thinking if he is good enough for others but especially Joanna. Through this trip you see them get closer to each other and develop stronger feelings which makes for a super sweet love story. God's redemption is great throughout this story and I love how Misty Beller interweaves faith and how it impacts and changes the lives of people. She does this without being preachy or completely in your face which is always a refreshing thing to see. I think this is important especially when you are recommending a Christian Fiction to a new believer.
I definitely recommend this book and although its is part of a series I think it worked well as a stand alone novel. I do want to read the first one just because this one was so good. Plus we do see the character from the first book towards the end of the story!
FTC Disclosure: I received this book from Bethany House Publishers via Netgalley. The opinions in this review are my own.
Although I learned after reading it that Love’s Mountain Quest is the second book in a series, I had no problems reading it as a stand-alone novel. A minimal amount of background was provided within the story which was quite enough for me to understand the context. I read historical fiction because I love it and am not a stickler for details. I trust the authors have done their research so I just sit back and enjoy a good book.
Love’s Mountain Quest was quite the wilderness adventure that took place in the Rocky Mountains of Montana territory. When Joanna’s young son and his companion were kidnapped by a group of outlaws, she insists on going with Isaac Bowen to rescue them. As the pair travels together through the rough mountain country, they encounter one delay after another due to several unexpected calamities. Frequent readers will assume that romantic feelings will develop during such close proximity in a tense situation and they would be correct.
I thoroughly enjoyed this novel with its vivid descriptions of the wilderness, strong characters, and plenty of danger and action. Although I love reading books of this type, they do tend to make me realize what a sheltered life I have led and how unprepared I would be to attempt such a journey myself. I am definitely an armchair adventurer.
So all you other armchair adventurers, Love’s Mountain Quest should satisfy your longing for adventure right in the comfort of your own home. Be sure to pick up a copy and join Joanna and Isaac as they venture through the Montana wilderness to rescue her son and his companion.
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book provided by Celebrate Lit. A favorable review was not required. All views expressed are my own.
Wow just when I think author Misty M Beller has written her best book, she comes up with one even better. Joanna Watson lost her husband in the Rocky Mountain wilderness this book is set in. The wilderness is a very hard life, especially for a widow and her small son. And when her son and babysitter went missing, Joanna will do anything in her power to get them back.
As I read this book, I thought of how people in today’s world would go crazy because of the time it take to do anything in this wilderness. It doesn’t take minutes or hours, or takes days and weeks. You would really need to trust the Lord and put all of your faith in Him. This is the only way I would have made it through what Joanna went through. And I am so glad she had Issac to help her because he knows these mountains. Issac and Joanna together is so sweet. They just have to get together after all of this. I thoroughly enjoyed another journey through this wilderness country. Different characters and different settings, but the same country land, rocks and mountains. I’m not going to keep going on this because I won’t spoil it for anyone.
If you enjoy the Rocky Mountain territory back in the 1800’s you might want to try some books like this or more from Misty M Beller. They are well worth your time. I love them and I am so thankful to Celebrate Lit for introducing me to Misty several years ago.
A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.
This historical fiction will take readers on a journey through the rugged terrain of Montana. Joanna and Isaac are trying to find her kidnapped son, Samuel, and friend, Laura, after their disappearance and discovering a man had been shot where their belongings were at. Isaac had previous assisted Joanna and she was hesitant to accept his offer but necessity called for it.
Their travels had plenty of unexpected events as well as finding they had to learn to trust one another. Isaac had hidden his past but knew he had to share it before he would be able to enlist assistance from another small community. The twists and turns just kept happening until faith, hope, forgiveness and new beginnings were discovered for several of the innocent and guilty characters.
This is the second book in Hearts of Montana but it can be read as a standalone. I would highly recommend reading Hope’s Highest Mountain to see how various characters initially met in the rugged Rocky Mountains in the 1860’s. .
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Celebrate Lit and the author. I was under no obligation to write a positive review but have shared my own opinion.
Book two in the Hearts of Montana series starts with a bang and continues that way until the end, so hold on tight. Adventure and intrigue will keep you turning the pages to see what happens next.
Author Misty Beller writes a story of good vs evil and often it looks like evil will win. But strong characters Joanna and Isaac persevere and battle their way to find Samuel. Beller does a good job of describing people and places so that you feel as if you’ve dropped into the book.
One thing I struggled with was the occasional modern day idioms that were used. I think the editor should have caught these. But it didn’t stop me from finishing the book so push past them and enjoy the journey.
I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review.
A true page turner. Whenever there is a child involved, the interest factor increases. Add an innocent woman trapped with a bunch of thieves and a furious, fretful mother. The plot explodes with the hazards of a chase through the mountains and a race against time. Beller's books never fail to place the reader in the thick of the wilderness and the mountain hardships. Yet, the beauty and majesty, as well as the settlers of the past, are evident and a draw for the reader. She takes me on journeys I would never have attempted (I don't think so) through the rugged, uncivilized terrain. I challenge the reader to explore and decide if the challenge is worth the sacrifice.
The year is 1867 life at Settler’s Fort, Montana Territory is not easy for a young widow Joanna Watson and her five-year-old son, Samuel. Joanna Watson faces a mother’s worst nightmare (not matter what year it is) her son and her good friend Laura, have vanished. When Joanna heard all the men would start looking in the morning, she was grateful Mr. Isaac Bowen volunteered to follow fresh tracks to catch the kidnappers.
Just like in book one of this Hearts of Montana series, there is a real dangerous fight against nature and its wild terrain. The race is on to find her son Samuel and Laura. I grew to enjoy these intriguing and like-able characters as Joanna and Isaac do what it takes to stay on the trail. This author pens a great adventure that tugs at your heartstrings in a good way. I liked the authors ability to paint a scenic picture of the landscape peeking my imagination. I liked that the author allowed us to see the situation from Laura’s point of view as the situation unfolded. It brought depth to the story.
I enjoyed the natural way in which the faith message was presented. One of the themes was, “My grace is sufficient for thee; for my strength is made perfect in weakness….Isaac thought that, “Joanna possessed an inner strength greater than most people he’d known. But leaning on her went against his grain. Yet perhaps that’s what God intended in all this. For him to learn how to rely more on others. And for that matter, more on his heavenly Father.”
This book can be read as a stand-alone and would work well for your next book club pick. There is much to discuss.

4.5 stars From page one, this novel was action packed. The plot centers around the perilous "quest" the two main characters go on to rescue Joanna' son and friend. There's some good backstory connection between Isaac and the kidnappers that added a lot to the story and the hero's faith journey. I like the way that Misty doesn't shy away from writing more intense details, whether it be romantic or dangerous circumstances. She didn't sugarcoat the experiences of the two young people taken captive, which helped build the plot's intensity. This also helped make the story stand out among other novels that have similar plot lines. This is only my second book by Misty M. Beller, my first being the first book in this series, and I have been really impressed by her originality and style of writing. I look forward to reading more of her books and have already started building a collection of some of her previous novels on my Kindle.

3.5 stars "She strained to hear the little-boy laughter that was a trademark of her son's exuberant personality."
And yet, there was silence; something had gone terribly wrong. Panicked, Joanna Watson runs back into the small town of Settler's Fort to find help. Providentially, assistance came in the form of the one man whom Joanna could trust with her life and the life of her most precious possession, her son. That man was Isaac Bowen.
Isaac Bowen's past was not a particularly honorable one, but he had worked hard to grow in his faith and become the man that God wanted him to be. Determined to help the lovely widow find her son, Isaac quickly assembles a posse and begins the trek along a trail that he knows all too well. As helplessness threatens to overtake both of them, the words of the apostle Paul come to Isaac's mind; "My strength is made perfect in weakness". . . . . . "Was this why this was happening? Why he'd been brought on this journey, . . . . why he couldn't walk on his own . . . . why he couldn't protect the woman whose care he'd though he was being entrusted with?"
"Love's Mountain Quest" is a tale filled with obstacles, obstacles that appear to be overwhelming, when in fact they become a gateway to faith. Readers will enjoy this author's crystal clear style as she paints a picture of adventure, determination, and a love that not only withstands, but overcomes.
I received a copy of this book from the author and publisher. The opinions stated above are entirely my own.
Book 2 in Misty Beller’s Hearts of Montana series, “Love’s Mountain Quest” can be read as a standalone, but for background into the lives of the main characters, I recommend reading “Hope’s Highest Mountain” first. Both contain the author’s trademark combination of adventure, faith, and romance, and this sequel is my favorite, not only of the two, but of the handful of Beller’s other books that I have read as well. “Love’s Mountain Quest” offers a bit of a twist on the theme of a mountain man rescuing a woman; in this case, widow Joanna Watson receives help from Isaac Bowen to find out what happened to her five-year-old son Samuel and her friend Laura, not realizing how Isaac’s past and future both figure into the situation.
As always, Beller delivers an exciting and emotional tale set in the beautiful but treacherous Montana territory. The scenic detail places readers right in the middle of the action, although the characters take precedence, with their complicated pasts shadowing their current circumstances. All of them feel genuine, from the seemingly heartless villains to the hapless victims, and the rawness of emotion tugs at your heartstrings. Isaac comes face to face with a past that he thought he left behind, one that still causes feelings of guilt and holds a lesson about pride. Joanna is so relatable, described as a woman who “did not shirk her responsibilities, no matter how exhausted and worried she was.” Yet part of her drive comes from fear: “She’d been praying, yes, but had she really been trusting that God would answer her prayers? Or were they merely an outlet for her anxiety?” This really causes me to pause, especially amidst the uncertainties of 2020. How often do I pray merely out of worry or fear, rather than with a grateful heart of trust and belief?
From the thorough description of nature and scenery to the interplay between characters, “Love’s Mountain Quest” is a novel that brings together romance, trauma, forgiveness, and sincere faith to demonstrate the power of a 1 Corinthians 13 love. After all, love truly is the greatest gift.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through Celebrate Lit and was not required to post a favorable review. All opinions are my own.
Misty M. Beller is a new to me author that I have really been enjoying! This is the second book in the series but I would say you could read it as a stand alone. The cover is stunning and there is non stop adventure from the first chapter. While I enjoyed book one a bit more I still was intrigued on what was going to happen to Samuel! The setting for her books are also some of my favorite so I enjoyed that in this story. If you enjoy historical fiction you might want to read one of Misty's stories.
Four Stars.

Love’s Mountain Quest was written by Misty M. Beller and is book two in the Hearts of Montana series. It is not necessary to have read book one in order to read this one.
Summary: Joanna Watson has struggled to make a living and support herself and her small son ever since the death of her husband.
But life takes a dramatic turn for the worst when she discovers that her son Samuel and dear friend Laura have been kidnapped by murderers.
Enlisting the help of local mountain man Isaac Bowen, the two set off to rescue Samuel and Laura.
Will they make it there in time? And what will happen when Joanna learns of Isaac’s true connections with the murderous gang they are tracking?
My Thoughts: This book was OK. I think it was a bit too romance-y for me. Also, the entire book is them trekking through the mountains. Some exciting things happen along the way, but that is pretty much the plot line.
There were interesting characters, and the writing is definitely solid, it just wasn’t for me.
I would like to thank Bethany House Publishers for providing me with a digital copy of this book in exchange for my review. Thank you.
As I turn the pages I think of the great Western movies of the past. This Book and so many others by Misty M. Beller remind me of movies such as 'HOW THE WEST WAS WON" OR "DRUMS ALONG THE MOHAWK". Ms. Beller writes a story so clear and precise that you feel that you are part of the story. I walked with her main character, Joanna, through the woods. I could feel her anguish and pain.
A wonderful story that I could not put down.
Isaac was a man with a horrid past. He couldn't erase from his memory what he did. He couldn't forgive himself. So how could Joanna?
I received this for free from Celebrate Lit to review.

More from Misty The Story Behind the Story: Love’s Mountain Quest
Love’s Mountain Quest was one of the hardest books I’ve ever written, even though I LOVE Isaac and Joanna and their story. What made this book so hard was the fact that I wrote most of the story during my third trimester of pregnancy with our son! Our little Matthew is our fourth baby (and first boy), so I was VERY heavy with child during the last three months I carried him, and that was the time that I’d scheduled to write Love’s Mountain Quest. Needless to say, the words were not flowing very well. My creativity was as exhausted as the rest of me! I could see Isaac and Joanna’s story in my mind, but showing it for readers using real words was the hard part. Thankfully, I have an amazing editor at Bethany House (waving at Jen Veilleux!) who helped me massage the first draft, pushing both me and the story to be the very best we could be. Unfortunately for her, the edits for this book were the first bit of writing I did after taking a short maternity leave after the birth, so my brain was still a bit mushy from all the post-partum hormones and lack of sleep a newborn always brings. Jen’s patience through the process was remarkable, yet I so appreciate her determination not to stop until we had the very best book possible. Our little Matthew just turned one, and Love’s Mountain Quest is finally making its way out into the world. Because of Jen, I’m so excited to share it with you! I can’t wait for you to meet the characters and story I love so much.
