Da’vi, the relentless. Da’vi, the cold and harsh. The alien who keeps his distance, yet never fails to bicker with me over the smallest details. Tension between us is coiled so tight it’s bound to snap... and I’m bound to do what I always do--leave. There’s a hundred different reasons I should go, yet I’m drawn in by the only thing that matters to me anymore--and it’s certainly NOT Da’vi’s friendship. I’m talking about saving humans.
One last mission and I’m done jumping through everyone’s hoops, Da’vi’s especially. Only, this lead we’re following... it brings us closer than I ever thought we could be. And once Da’vi and I cross that line, there’s no going back. I’ve got two choices: fight this bond... or SURRENDER.
Too bad for Da’vi I’m not the type of girl who goes down without a fight.

Should I read in order? At this point I would say yes. There is some character development, more so for the heroine, throughout the books but the world building is what will really come into play reading the prior books. It is readable alone, but you might feel like you’re thrown into a lot of confusing things.
Basic plot: Da’vi has been training Allison to be strong and independent and need no one in this world – which is exactly how she likes it. When they get information about a human taken on a slaver ship, Allison is ready for a rescue mission.
Give this a try if you want: - Science fiction romance - Alien planets/space ships for the setting - You want an enemies to lovers-ish relationship style - Damaged heroine that is trying to overcome her childhood trauma - Unrequited love from the hero - One sided fated mate (Hero knows she’s his mate) - At the beginning they have a student/mentor relationship - Alien hero/human heroine pairing - Tall hero/short heroine (hero is 12 inches taller than the heroine) - Medium steam – 3 full scenes

My thoughts: Ohhh this book. I knew I would struggle with Allison because she has been made to be extremely unlikable from day 1 that you meet her. She’s aggressively sullen, pushes everyone away, condescending, rude and downright nasty to everyone at zero instigation. She constantly refers to the hero as ‘lizard boy’ which got annoying quickly but lingered all the way to the end of the story. She calls the other women on the planet nincompoops and bitches. She’s just plain unlikable.
I don’t want to belittle her trauma. I would have truly forgiven it all and moved forward if she had shown any kind of self reflection and growth. But I didn’t see it at all.
I give this book credit – it did make my heart break for her. Bravo, Tracy Lauren – even when I hate your characters I am gutted in the best way by your writing. Alas, there wasn’t enough turn around for me with Allison to enjoy this book. (I’ll attach quotes below under a spoiler for specifics).
I wish we had some more depth for Da’vi as I really liked him. I didn’t feel it lacking while I was reading, because I was so absorbed with the tension, suspense, and heartbreak of Allison’s own life. But when I sat down to write this, I can’t think of what I even really know of Da’vi’s past other than he made an oath to Rennek. There wasn’t overmuch in the previous books for him either (as I have been good and actually reading the series in order!)
So, I could have really loved this book, but I wanted more of the heroine by the end of the book. I appreciated the author notes and I understand the fact that the author didn’t expect everyone to overcome their trauma magically by the end of the book. Sometimes those books that wrap everything up perfectly with a bow are a bit eye rolling right? BUT with this couple, I get Allison still had too many issues. She wasn’t apologizing or acknowledging her issues. She was still flipping back and forth with what she wanted and expected and it wasn’t enough for me to believe they would make it. I felt like Da’vi wasn’t going to be her partner – he was going to be her subordinate, taking orders from her, too cautious to be himself because of how she’s reacted in the past. It was disappointed and I wanted better for Da’vi sadly.
I did like that the heroine was a runner and kicked the hero’s behind at it – their bonding scenes taking place with that were really touching. I also appreciated the scene where the heroine is thought to be a slave and she single handedly takes on the Makaan that are trying to assault her. Bad ASS and I loved it so much.
This book will never be a reread for me sadly, but I appreciated the emotional pull I got from it.
Obviously Allison has been written as a bitchy ice queen in all the previous books and I had a hard time envisioning how the author would justify it. The author started with her backstory, which definitely helped define her. She was still a bitchy ice queen, but also had commitment issues. Commitment issues to the point of being unwilling to commit to even having a friend. Da’vi was not my fave MMC because he had communication issues galore. Like it took a year for him to figure out he was communicating that Allison was incapable of taking care of herself. Also, we get almost no information about who he was before meeting Rennek. Both MCs had a growth arc and both growth arcs were painfully slow and laborious. I don’t think I’d be friends with either of these people in real life, but their story was still interesting. Also - the spice is improving!
The following ratings are out of 5: Romance: 💚💜💙 Story/Plot: 📕📗📙 Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥 World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏 Character development: 😒🥺😀🙂 Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙 Narration type: Dual Narration
The heroine:Allison - she lost her mother and stepfather when she was a senior in high school. She and her sister Casey saw each other less and less after that, eventually becoming completely estranged which hurt Allison deeply. They never got to make up before Allison was abducted by alien slavers. She and other human females were rescued by another group of aliens. She often has nightmares that either she or her sister is held against their will again. So, she has been doing an apprenticeship with Da’vi on his spaceship. He has been teaching her all the skills he knows to survive. She wants to make sure she is never caught unaware again. She also wants to help out girls “who are too scared or trapped to help themselves.”
The Hero:Da’vi - Da’vi has known for a while that Allison is his mate. He loves the fact that she is a warrior, not a delicate flower like other females. He knows how driven she is and that she has no need for love or a mate. She only hangs out with Da’vi and doesn’t really have any friends back in Beacon where the rest of his people and the human females that had been rescued live. Da’vi hides the softer side of himself, the loving side, that he thinks Allison would have no appreciation for. He fears the time when she leaves his side and goes off on her own, though he is proud of how intelligent and fierce she is but worries that she might be on a suicide path.
The Story: Allison wants to be self-reliant, and she knows her apprenticeship will be over soon. She knows she will soon have to strike out on her own. She won’t be able to stay with Da’vi long after he teaches her all he knows. Da’vi is hard on Allison, but only because he wants to give her the tools she needs to survive on her own. Da’vi and Allison spend a lot of their time arguing and bickering. Especially because Allison wants to run headlong into danger and Da’vi wants to keep her safe.
I will have to admit though, I did get a bit bored during this story, and there were a few reasons. First, I didn’t like the fact that this story went back to the beginning of Allisons story, before she was abducted by aliens, but then didn’t say much about her actual abduction, what she went through, how they were rescued and how she met and the beginning of her relationship with Da’vi. It just went from flashbacks and then immediately jumped into her having been Da’vi’s apprentice for a while. I like the backstory between two characters. Then I also got bored of all the arguing between the two of them. I didn’t really like the heroine all that much, she was reckless, and it seemed she thought she was invincible. She wanted what she wanted and even when she was given good reasons for the fact that she couldn’t do something, she acted like she accepted it but really didn’t. Though the story got a lot more exiting towards the end.
This audiobook was told in multiple points of view and was narrated in dual narration by Eva Caine and Gabriel De Leon. Gabriel has a deep, smooth voice that I really enjoy. He sounds very sexy and expressive. Eva Caine has a nice voice, and I didn’t like her so much the first time I listened to a book she narrated but I find myself liking her more and more each time. She does a great job and is easy to listen to.
Author's warning about Allison should come at the beginning. There are times, when I enjoy a bit more reality and character building. Initially, I enjoyed the series for that fact. But something happened with this book. Allison was TOO damaged. Lauren explains at the end, that she struggled writing this character because of this very fact. To some extent, it felt as if she was salvaging the story line for continued additions. But, I absolutely hated and I do mean HATED Allison. Allison was not stupid. She was a strong character. Perhaps too strong. Too arrogant. Too self-centered and somehow, her past couldn't excuse how she treated others. It tried to explain it, but I couldn't empathize with Allison. At first, I felt sorry for Da'vi (hero). But as he blends into the background, he becomes her doormat. At no point, does the relationship scream anything but a disaster waiting to happen. I nearly gave this a one. What's with all the [AE #s] in the Kindle version? Those should have been edited out. They were distracting. What provided that extra star was her overall good writing. It is still good. Four previous books were good (maybe not exceptional, but enough that I bought them to add to my library with the intent of possibly reading them later on.) This was a regret. I wish, I could have skipped this one. But, the overarching storyline is too important to miss. I applaud Lauren's attempt to write something new. It might have been a four or five star if she had pulled back a bit on Allison. Maybe given her a little more empathy for others - not been so broken as to be impossible to fix. I still plan to continue in the series, as Lauren has a good thing going and it's been worth the read. I just didn't feel the romance in this one. It was more of a SciFi with sex, which some readers may prefer.
I typically love Tracy Lauren books, but I could barely slog through this one I just found Allison so unlikable. I was so disconnected emotionally from the angry and irrational Allison that I kept contemplating dropping this book. Allison never seemed to learned or grow from her self imposed problems and troubles. I kept expecting Allison to have an epiphany where she came around and realized how terrible she'd been treating everyone and to try to redeem herself. Da'vi was fantastic and really deserves a better mate in my opinion. If not for Aybram, Da'vi, and the epilogue I would have felt compelled to rate this book a one star. I'm really hoping Aybram gets his own story as I would love to see more of him.
It is hard to root for character or their story if you hate them so mutch you wish they were killed off several books ago. Allison is the ultimate bitch everyone hates for a really good reason. Don't give me the trauma excuse. Not the abduction, nor her life before it is anything other that a big fat excuse for Allison to be who she is. I know too many people who have gone through mutch worse, yet they are decent people. And Da'vi. Sweet Da'vi who showed that truly loving someone is letting them go and rising them up. He deserved a good mate yet he got a monster who pretends to not be one.
Is the story worth reading? I don't think so. It doesn't really add to overall arc either. You can skip it and not loose track. Or read epilogue 2 and you are good.
absolutely not. there is a difference between being a bad arse and just a plain arse hole. and allison was an arse hole. i literally wanted her to find no happiness-she was such a bitter b word. i read 20%,then skipped to the end. her constant anger and putting down of the other women was too much. this author seems to be very hit or miss. i have 1 starred. i have 2 starred. i have 5 starred. the five star read (book 5) did make me look forward to book 8,but books 6 and 7 were not engaging. my thoughts only. feel free to read and form your own opinion.
Very unlikable heroine. I skimmed a lot of the book just to get to the end and see what happened in the series plot. I know she was dealing with stuff from her past and being kidnapped but she still wasn't likable. I liked the version of her we read about in in her flashbacks than the her we got for the majority of the book. I don't think she and the hero would be happy in the long term but that's just me. I'd like to see where this series goes since it started so well but after the last few books, I'm losing interest.
I really tried to get into this story, but I couldn't. Allison was always angry, annoying and mean to the others. This made me frustrated and edgy too. What a pity Da’vi is her mate.
I was back and forth a bit on a 4 star or a 5 star on this story. I loved Allison’s independence, determination, perseverance, and big heart that she was hiding under her keeping everyone at arms length persona not to mention her snark. What frustrated me was despite all of her brave mouthing off she couldn’t have a heart to heart conversation with Da’vi about what she felt for him and at times she came across a bit immature in that aspect.
Da’vi was Allison’s mate unbeknownst to her. He loved her and wanted very much to protect her despite him training her to be able to take care of herself. Like Allison he needed to let he know he loved her and was not going to stand in the way of what she needed to get done.
Allison had a hard childhood with a mother who seemed to be more interested in finding a rich man to take care of her than for her to pay attention to her two daughters. Allison’s sister Casey, was a piece of work. She trampled on Allison’s feelings for most of their lives together. Nothing Allison did was every good enough. A lot of that pain and hurt was what Allison carried in her heart and made her keep the world at arms length.
While there were many times that Allison frustrated when it came to Da’vi, her driving need to rescue other captives from slavery was always her focus and for that she had my admiration.
This is one of those stories that has a lot wrapped up in it and it’s not just your typical alien abducts human scenario. There is an underlying lesson of how much your past can control your future. You can’t escape your demons you have to face them and own them or they will own you.
Once Allison makes a break to stand on her own the story picks up pace and new characters are added that give a much comedic break and a better focus of everyone’s attention. For me it was an engaging read and both characters resonated with me. There are a few areas in the book where things are a little loose, which is why I eventually settled on the 4 star rating.

Allison and Da'vi. They've...how to put this? Allison has pushed and pulled and fought for everything she thought she needed to survive since her rescue. She asked Da'vi to train her so that she could be self-reliant and wouldn't need to rely on anyone if things went bad again.
And Da'vi agreed. He challenged her and pushed her to excel all while hiding that he knew the moment he saw her that she was his mate. He gave her everything he thought she needed -- everything she demanded of him -- and he was convinced she would leave him once she'd learned enough. Which is kind of heartbreaking. But he wanted the best for her and tried to give her what he thought she wanted. it wasn't until they did go their separate ways that he saw how much he'd been holding her back in a lot of ways. (which I get, but I also don't necessarily agree with because he gave her the strength to follow her calling and the skills to see that sometimes you needed help from others. Admittedly, that last lesson took longer than all the others to learn, but she figured things out. Eventually.)
As for Allison, she had baggage to work through. Past rejection made Allison work to harden herself as much as she possibly could so she wouldn't get hurt like that again. She put up walls and pushed people away and worked diligently at not needing anyone. But Da'vi got under her skin. When he wasn't there to push her, she missed how he challenged her. And that led to a whole slew of other realizations that pushed those two squarely into couple-territory.
A little danger, a lot of verbal sparring, a woman finding her place and her calling, and a whole bunch of new faces. I'm pretty darn excited about the many different directions this series can go. BRING IT!
I enjoyed this book very much, it seems like I am part of a minority here. There are so few heroines out there that really grasp the fact that they are out there in a universe they don't know much about it and don't try to "escape" or do some impulsive thing that it is going to land them in more trouble. She took the time to learn, to become a warrior.
Loved, loved the fact that she was able to create her own army, that she came back to her world as a girl who made it and not as a girl who was too stupid and needed to be saved again.
To me, the book really takes a turn when she leaves Da'vi and is able to see herself and be able to appreciate what she has with him.
I agree we are not all, girly girls, some are more warriors and their stories need to be told
The stuff she put that poor mate of her through. She was one of the most stubborn and thick headed women of this series. As much as I understood her feelings, she was so back and forth and confusing the man until he almost broke and surrendered himself. This was a fun action packed story and I really enjoy the difference in this series then from all the others I’ve read. The world building is fantastic, character development and growth and plot moves a lot at a great pace. I can’t wait for more to release on audio
I really could not stand Alison. She was just such an unlikeable character. I am empathetic to her trauma, but she was just so meal and cruel to everyone, especially the people that tried to love and heal her. Yes, she did show some growth, but it felt a little superficial, because it only really came after shoe got her own way. I love Da'vi and wanted so much better for him. The only saving grace was how well Lauren writes these stories. I guess that is what makes her such a good writer, I really hated her character and her writing skill made me feel something. I am looking forward to the next book, this is a great series.
Book six of The Alien Series a well written story that has a great storyline the story flowed smoothly across the pages. I want to read the next book, this series just gets better with each new book. This is human Allison who has so much from her past to get over in order to be able to claim Da’vi as her Mate. The book had me laughing in some places as I read. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Okay, this book is amazing. I love the world building and I love love love the MALE main character. I want to wrap him up and tell him not all human women are evil.
I’ve been waiting on Allison’s story. I knew it was possible I wouldn’t like her and I didn’t...but then I began to see and understand her and yes, even like her.
Absolutely love your books, love this whole series please write more asap. Really love that your aliens are not just blue or green humans. More, more, more.
It was good to get the backstory on Allison. While I personally can’t relate to her personality type or drive, she was well written as was Da’vi. Really looking forward to more stories from this world. Uriel especially!
I spent a lot of this book just wanting to smack Allison because she can’t get out of her own way. I think even V wants to smack her around. Allison has a lot of growing and healing to do before she can trust what Da’vi feels for her.
When I got to the last page I said ' no no no it's not over right?' I could have read some much longer for this story. Loved the characters, it made my heart ache many times and also made me laugh.
I am not going to lie and say Allison didn't annoy me to no end...but Davi really did his job in making her better lol. I love this universe and the characters. I especially enjoyed the ending. A must red!
I’ll be honest. I hated Allison in all the other books. She was just a bitch with a need to ruin everyone’s good time. But after reading her book I love her. I can’t wait to hear about everyone’s stories. I hope there is a book for Reagan soon ❤️
Finally Da'vi and Allison's story was incredible! This book had a little bit of everything and I for one really was hooked on series. It has had me in tears twice!
Allison and Da’vi? Da’vi has rescued her and knows she’s his mate. Allison, she’s grateful and works hard to learn all the fighting skills she can from Da’vi. But is just fighting skills she needs to succeed? Adventures, bad guys, slavers, exotic aliens and a kickass heroine! Enjoy!!!
This is the perfect strong woman with a soft heart! She has been made to be strong. Life made her this way. Now to find a man that can accept how strong she truly is!
I love this series. This is book 6 and it was so good. I really connected to Allison even though most would find her a difficult character. I can't wait to read more.
