I’ve been using macronutrient concepts to lose weight and build muscle for the last four months. The strategy has been remarkably sustainable for me. I picked up Macronutrient Basics to serve as a check on what I’ve been doing.

The book is a quick read. Dustin‘s advice is solid. His explanations of macronutrient concepts are relatively simple. There are places where the math might’ve been simpler, but it still checks out.

The book includes a good selection of recipes (not all of them) that have protein levels near or above 40%, a mark I consistently use for determining what I consider a good protein source. You can easily determine this by multiplying a food’s protein grams by 10 and comparing it to the number of calories. If that protein calculation is equal to or higher than the calories, protein makes up at least 40% of the calories in the food.

The book was published in 2020, so it doesn’t really cover the role that AI can play now in following a macronutrient diet and programming exercise. Still, it’s a reasonably priced book that delivers on the title. If you’re the type of person that wants to permanently make diet related health changes, this is a good place to start.

Was able to read in an afternoon and pick up the key concepts - presented simply so even my non-science mind got it. Great selection of starter recipes to get you going on a macro based program.
