Mary Lancaster is a USA Today bestselling author of historical fiction and historical romance. She lives in Scotland with her husband, one of three grown-up kids, and a small dog with a big personality.

Her first literary love was historical fiction, a genre which she relishes mixing up with romance and adventure in her own writing. Several of her novels feature actual historical characters as diverse as Hungarian revolutionaries, medieval English outlaws, and a family of eternally rebellious royal Scots. To say nothing of Vlad the Impaler.
Her most recent books are light fun Regency romances, with occasional forays into Victorian mystery.

A delightful story that had me smiling from the beginning.
Lady Alba Snowden had lost her love at seventeen and through the years had thrown up a shield around herself, giving her the moniker of "Snow Queen." Having turned down many suitors, she seemed immune to any gentleman. That is until she meet Prince Volkov, a captain of the Emperor of Russian dragoons and friend of her beloved brother.
In an unexpected first meeting, he knew he had to see her again and with the help of her brother he went with him to their country estate.
Alba didn't know quite what to make of Volkov, but against her better judgement, he did make her feel again..
But something was going on with her stepmother and her stepsister Rose. A mystery and a journey of trying to find happiness when it never seemed possible.
As usual, Mary Lancaster has written a wonderful story and looking forward to seeing some of the secondary characters in future books!

I thoroughly enjoyed this historical novel with great characters, romance and intrigue. She was called the Ice Queen since her fiance had been killed two weeks before her wedding when she was only seventeen. In the past five years she had turned down numerous proposals and never planned to marry. On the way from her father's home ( he was a duke) in London to their rural estate, there were men duelling in the road. Police were coming and one man jumped into her carriage. He was a soldier and also a Russian Prince who knew her brother. He went with her band restarted falling for each other and soon became engaged. However, a misunderstanding caused him to leave and they didn't see each other for months. Then complications arise and they finally got their HEA. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy.

I volunteered to read this ARC for an honest review. I enjoyed this story about Alba and Yuri. Alba is the oldest daughter of a Duke and her stepmother, the Dutchess. She's is considered the snow queen since she has held off on any marriage proposals since her 1st fiance was killed. She meets Yuri by accident even she's leaving London for the family home in Winbourne. She gets a surprise traveling partner, for a while when a dueling Yuri tries to flee the watch. She's startled by him but also inquisitive about him as well, his accent and all. Yuri is friends with her brother Oscar and he convinces him to introduce Alba to him properly. As Yuri tries to earn her trust and to make her feel again, a meddling lady causes problems for Yuri, Alba, the Dutchess and there's rest of her family. But a HEA in the end.

Melting the Snow Queen was an amazing book. I haven’t read a lot of Mrs. Lancaster’s books recently, so I was happy to get the chance to read this one. It was well written, paced perfectly, had wonderful characters, and had a strong storyline. I instantly fell in love with the characters. Alba was so endearing and so sad to have lost the love of her life weeks before the wedding. Yuri hid his pain of losing his loved ones during the war behind the fun-loving front he used. Yuri was able to break through the shield Alba had around her heart and to open her eyes to the joy of living. Their love was strong and survived through several misunderstandings, but can it survive the schemes of a devious neighbor?

Broken heart when your first love dies. Protect yourself from pain by encapsulating your heart in ice. If no one can get in, no one can hurt you. If you don't feel, you don't hurt. That is what the beautiful Alba did. Protect herself from everyone and earn the title of the Snow Queen. Many young men tried to win her heart and thaw her frosty glare. All were unsuccessful. Yuri, handsome, dashing, Russian prince in London as escort to the tzar. Accidentally encounters the lovely Alba as he tries to avoid the police while having a mock sword fight with slightly foxed friends.
Being enchanted by the Snow Queen, he lays a bet he can get he to kiss him and the challenge is issued. Little did he realize both his heart and hers were on the line.

This is a great story! Alba lost her first love just 2 weeks before her wedding and she has refused all proposals since. Yuri is dazzled by Alba’s beauty and is determined to win her heart. Misunderstanding tears them apart but will they get a second chance? This book is excellent. It’s well written and I really liked the characters!

Mary Lancaster has so far been my instant buy, instant love and instant 5 star read author, and I'm happy to say, the streak is continuing...the snow queen was absolutely charming and cute and over the top as most great historical romances are (*cough* should be) and it will be a definite reread for the winter season.

sweet read

This story has a hero who fights for the love of his snow queen. There are various obstacles and evil people on the way it all is overcome. There is a happy ever after but it just seems to me this story was rushed in spots and even in the ending the relationships were rushed and unexplained
