After a scholarly fourteen-year-old girl vanishes on Halloween night, uncompromising yet isolated private investigator Arden Briar dives deep into the Georgia underground to find the victim. Faced with overwhelming odds, Arden enlists the help of the victim’s damaged father, a veteran with a short fuse. Will Arden’s temporary alliance be the solution to her problem or her downfall?
Though the story itself was decent. A lot of vigilante justice being served up. The horror of underground violent cult groups and just how deep these cults go was enlightening. For me, the downside was the constant religious undertones. I wish the book synopsis would have stated that religion and praying was a major part of the story. I would have probably past on this title.
The story line kept me up until 3:57 a.m! The combining of belief in God and the horrible reality of human trafficking was quite intriguing and unique. I have been searching for an author who can accurately present the reality of what it is that a born again Christian thinks and feels while trying to walk through today's reality and J. S. Donovan does this better than any other author I have read. Thank you and I look forward to reading more of your works.
This ended up having a lot of religion in it, not just the occult stuff. Would have enjoyed more without it. Didn't really see in the description where it would have so much.
A bit gory at times, deals with satanic worship and child abuse.
This is the best book I’ve read for a very long time. It made me feel like a friend of ARDEN AND JOE, I want to save all the children that have no voice of their own, God had to help in this book.
It is so refreshing to read a book of my favorite genre, that shared so much of Gods word. This is a wonderfully, well written story. Which has some of the most believable characters, who were so real you could relate to each one.
I'm enjoying reading this series. Got sucked into the "EMP" series and now this one.
I really wish they would do a better job of editing. Seems a shame to be reading steadily along and end up having to read the same sentence over because of the editing.
The reality of human trafficking and with him going undercover. Drawing in a damage father to aid him. The plot was well written. The audio was well done and added to the story. Given audio for my voluntary review
The book moved quickly, filled with faith of Arden who temporarily loses her strong faith, but keeps coming back to God and telling others about His true love.
Thank you for writing about a real and present danger in our society. The characters are well portrayed and the storyline moves quickly. Very realistic ending, too. Although this was 8th in a series, this novel is great by itself.
Finally, a Christian author with exceptional talent. Relentless action, believable characters and realistic faith. Definitely not the usual saccharine story! Great read even if not interested in the faith angle.
So many problems with this book! The writing style felt like a teenager wrote it. Timelines were disjointed and some of the action scenes dragged on and on and on. I didn’t realize faith would be part of this book, but it was actually the one redeeming quality.
