What Really Makes You Ill? why everything you thought you knew about disease is wrong

Rate this book
This book will explain what really makes you ill and why everything you thought you knew about disease is wrong. "Doctors are men who prescribe medicines of which they know little, to cure diseases of which they know less, in human beings of whom they know nothing." Voltaire. The conventional approach adopted by most healthcare systems entails the use of ‘medicine’ to treat human disease. The idea encapsulated by the above quote attributed to Voltaire, the nom de plume of François-Marie Arouet (1694-1778), will no doubt be regarded by most people as inapplicable to 21st century healthcare, especially the system known as modern medicine. The reason that people would consider this idea to no longer be relevant is likely to be based on the assumption that ‘medical science’ has made significant advances since the 18th century and that 21st century doctors therefore possess a thorough, if not quite complete, knowledge of medicines, diseases and the human body. Unfortunately, however, this would be a mistaken assumption; as this book will demonstrate.

Great example of citizen journalism. Thoroughly researched by independent authors about one of the most important subjects that affects us all: health. This book explains why and how most of the therapies of 'modern medicine' - and the theories they are based upon - are very problematic, at best. Also, the political mechanisms are exposed that are necessary to keep most of the world's population unaware of this crucial information.

Roughly 50 pages of cited sources. Other reviewers who likely haven't read the book state there aren't sources which is completely untrue.

The information is clear, concise and empowering. Over 10 years of research and study went into this book. Not just a good read, but a great read!

I do like this book, but I think it's more due to a lack of competition rather than its quality. It satisfies my desire to see others question the medical establishment, and in some of the same ways I do. But there are two things that severely hurt the effort by Dawn and David: the writing, and citing "The China Study".

First off, the writing, it continually demands that you believe the conclusions they've reached BEFORE they've cited anything or made an argument. This book could probably cut 200 pages if they just focused on making their points instead of insisting that their points are correct. Second, "The China Study" is well known to be manipulated trash. Dawn and David have an uncritical faith in a plant-based diet, and their citing of that worthless propaganda piece makes me question the rest of their sources that I have not personally investigated.

I somewhat regret purchasing this.

This is a deep and powerful book. As a nurse who was becoming very disillusioned with the medical system never really fixing people but instead sometimes causing more harm I decided to do my own research. As I was reading this book I was nodding my head in agreement- they get it! Excellent book. The environmental damage was new to me- I haven’t researched much on that- but the medical conclusions they came up with was basically the same I’ve come up with. Do yourself and your family a favor by reading this book. Then to fix your health, follow Natural Hygiene principles, or better yet, watch a few Dr. Robert Morse videos on YouTube. You will have drastically improved health over the years. There are no quick fixes- no matter what we’ve been brainwashed to believe. And there is a lot we’ve been brainwashed into believing.

while i appreciate a healthy skepticism of the medical field and scientific method, to completely ignore it and draw your conclusions from centuries old texts and questionable sources (without even citing the source, most times) is something to be looked at with even further skepticism. for the most part this book is ludicrous. these people are preying on the portion of the population that is seeking evidence to prove that covid is fake. do not give them your money please.

An electrical engineer and an accountant have decided they know more about medicine than doctors, biochemists, microbiologists.
What could possibly go wrong?!
This book deserves minus 1 star but the software won't let me.

I actually read the book.

There are many reviews on various websites from people who didn't read the book but instead listened to the authors on a podcast. I have just finished the book after a month of almost daily reading, lol.

This book takes a commitment. Once reaching the end, I feel most readers will get the sense that their loyalty was well-placed. This book is a one-stop deep dive into the subject of 'terrain theory' from authors who stumbled upon it via research into 'virus theory.'

I've actively sought interviews with the authors on various podcasts before and while reading their book. The writing of 'What Really Makes You Ill' began as a bipartisan dive into viruses. When limited to no supportive evidence could be recovered, they wrote a book on the information that was uncovered: Viruses do not cause illness.

The most astounding part of this book is that it uses the medical establishments' own definitions and research against them. This book doesn't solely rely on research by doctors and scientists that some may attribute as 'false authorities.' Rather it uses the CDC and WHO when citing the sheer number of inadequacies and contradictions.

Why should we believe that viruses cause illness when there are so many other explanations that make more sense.
'What about Polio?' This book will address that.
'What about STDs?' This book will address that.
'What about Chickenpox?' This book will address that.
'What about the black plague' This book will address that.

This book will enlighten, empower, and inform the reader of what really makes you ill, and it's NOT viruses or bacteria. The answer is far more reasonable, and you'll have to read it to find out.

This book will take you through the history of 'Germ Theory' and how we reached the understanding we currently have. After laying the foundation for why the medical establishment believes this, the authors do a great job of showing you why it's erroneous.

I admit that I often felt depressed reading this book. There are points when I felt like it was an impossible task to be healthy. But towards the end of the book, I felt liberated. I began looking at all of the supplements that I take, and I was able to pick through them and get rid of the ones that weren't necessary. I view my health differently than I did before reading this book.

Overall, If you want to take a deep dive into this subject, look no further; this is the book for you. If you want a more summarized version, I recommend "Contagion Myth" By Dr. Thomas Cowan. If you're like me, reading Contagion Myth will make the reading of this book inevitable. There is far too much to the history for it to be left to one book. A deeper dive becomes unavoidable.

A critical review of modern medicine

This book takes an uncompromising look at modern medicine. I found it informative and thought provoking. The authors' logical and analytical methods were useful in explaining the flaws in modern medicine to me, though I did occasionally feel more evidence would have been useful.

Disappointing

Onesided view by non-trained authors, only critisizing the medical fraternity without considering scientific evidence as logic. An integrated or holostic approach would have been valuable.

Any book that quotes and draws upon references from another source without a footnote or endnote of that source cannot get more than three stars, no matter how excellent the content is.

This book has a lot of fascinating content, but it’s not well structured.

If you are interested in ‘germ theory’ vs ‘terrain theory’ then this is a good starting point. A brilliantly researched account of the toxic environment that we now live in and how that is contributing to the ever-growing list of NCDs - Non Contagious/Communicable Diseases.

I wanted to like this book more but it was really really long (700+ pages). It felt like a burden to read it. Some of the ideas are really new to me and I am willing to explore more, such as virus and germs do not cause disease. In stead, the authors propose that chemical and environmental toxins cause disease. One of the more illuminating parts of the book is the discussion on smallpox killing off the native populations of north and south America. Instead, the authors propose that the Europeans killed off the natives via murder and enslavement. I see this being a legitimate theory since victors usually try to gaslight their victims and paint a rosier view of history that makes them look better. In the end, the book could use some serious editing (shorten it please) but overall it has inspired me to improve my food choices and avoid toxins in general.

Some good info, some that needs more research

While this book takes an important stance with regard to health and medicine that we should all consider it doesn’t do a good job making its case. For example if one wants to claim, as this book does, that many infectious diseases are not infectious diseases at all, it is not enough to point out the poor data and testing but it is important to clearly define what is causing that particular illness. This book doesn’t do that.

Thought provoking and informative. One may not share all of the conclusions drawn by the authors but will almost assuredly walk away with some good food for thought. We are far more complex than the current medical model allows for, and it will have to expand its view if folks being cared for under it are to be in good health.

I started this book in May of 2020 just as this whole scamdemic was getting started and realized right away that there was no virus and this whole thing was concocted. This started me down so many rabbit holes that my mind has literally been blown on a daily basis. I will forever be indebted to the authors for keeping me from going along with all these ridiculous rules they were imposing on us.

If You've Ever Wondered

This wonderfully researched and highly readable tome clearly establishes that much of current medical practice is little more than a religion based on unproven theories and faulty science, and is responsible for the all-too-evident decline in human well-being worldwide. I, for one, have often wondered about that!

I find it an excellent reference book, a starting point for exploring what is health, what is disease, causes of symptoms, types of 'diseases' and the probable causers, medical-chemical history, agendas, influences, vested interests, conflict of interests etc.
I don't agree with everything, specifically with the diet and the explanation of allergies, I also would like to see more reference to the terrain theory and Bechamp's work, but other than those I find it a well document research of what really makes us ill.
I suggest to be combined with 'Bechamp or Pasteur?...' and 'Virus Mania' books in order to explore the deception we live in, especially with the latest pandemic.

I couldn't actually finish this book. It is poorly written and horribly referenced. There are references at the back of the book, but the text doesn't actually *reference* them so it's impossible to find out what the actual basis is for the writers' claims. Many of the references refer to websites that are no longer available.
The writers claim they will demonstrate this or that fact, but they never actually seem to accomplish that.

This is the book for everyone who wants to know the truth about medical and scientific society. All the lies and the exploration of humans and animals this ill society is doing for decades for profit. This is the book for every doctor with morals. Studies, articles, facts with simple words. I not only recommend it, this is a must.

Great analyses of the evidence

It is evident by the content and references within this book that there has been a considerable amount of research undertaken before writing. Thank you for your efforts.

Wow. The amount of research that went into this book is phenomenal. I'm not convinced their theories are 100% correct, but the meticulous way they point out flaws and contradictions in current medical science is well worth reading. I will be thinking about their arguments for a long time.

First, the reason why it got 4 stars instead of 5 was due to the fact that the scope was very broad. It should of been two books rather than one. That being said, let me ask you a question: You go to a Doctor, and he says, "I don't know what caused your illness, but this what I am going to do to treat it.". I don't what you would do, but I would run from that Doctor thinking 'quack!'. If a Doctor doesn't know the true cause of an illness, then he cannot be truly successful in treating it. Or how about this: a Doctor is going to prescribe you a medication because the benefits out weight the risk. Did you get that? Any Doctor who says that are contradicting themselves right in front of your face! How can a medication be both harmful and good? These above examples illustrate why this such a good book! You will be enlighten and informed like never before! Those excellent chapters you may want to read again before going on. You will only benefit and more equipped to handle your Dr..

(Am postponing a rating of this book, because I might need to reread.)

Even though it feels slightly overwrought in parts - at ~700 pages and not a single picture or diagram (my eyes started to glaze over in some parts and I had to skip some sections in the middle chapters) - some of the critiques that the authors make of 'mainstream medicine' I expect will stand the test of time.

Even if for nothing else, it would be worth getting the book for it's critique of the UN and WHO 'health' programmes alone - the 'Medicines for all' and 'Vaccines for all' campaigns, etc..

Not really a book to read as this is a heavily researched book with much detail. A “Cliff Notes” version would be great but you can get much from the book by skimming.
It has an excellent message about our bodies and their capability to heal. Much of what we are told is good for us actually does harm.

What Really Makes You Ill? has an abundance of valuable information. However, it could have been better organized and more clearly written. Even more important was the lack of the authors' knowledge about healing. As soon as they quoted T. Colin Campbell as an authority on nutrition, they lost me. What about those who heal on carnivore diets? What about all the anti-nutrients in plants?
