The Family Novak #2

Ties That Bind

Rate this book
In a world where the rules are gray and the Don's word is a law unto itself, only one thing is sacred… family.

A Team A.L.P.H.A. and Alphabits spin-off series

Tony Peterson has seen friend after friend find their mate, including his brother, but he’s pretty much given up on it happening for him, especially since he’s not a typical alpha. It’s okay though, he has his son Dexter and a great job helping shifter kids heal and navigate the system. What more could he want?

Joey Novak had to fight his way through a lot of prejudice to be seen as equal to all his alpha brothers, and he doesn’t regret a minute of it. Living on the wrong side of the law means you have to make your own, anyway. As long as he doesn’t wonder if he’ll ever find an alpha who will be the perfect match for him, he’s completely happy with his life.

Fate always strikes when you’re looking the other direction, and when a kid under the Novaks’ protection ends up in the system, Tony and Joey’s paths cross, and the two men from opposite sides of the law have to discover whether true love is enough when their values are so different. With a baby on the way, they don’t have much time to find an answer. But what if that answer is that they’d be better apart?

This is the second book in this mpreg mafia series. Get ready for a world ruled by the Don’s iron fist, unique interrogation tactics, and a family that stands together… no matter what. You can expect to find naughty, knotty scenes of steamy passion, along with a lot of potty-mouth language and more violence than you’re used to from us. But at its heart, you’ll still find all the fluffy mpreg feels and crazy antics you’d look for from Susi Hawke and Crista Crown.

I'm a total fan of M/PREG Paranormal Romances, first and foremost as a reader. I'm excited to share my own omegaverse(s) with you. What's not to love about adorable Omegas and the Alpha men who love them? If I'm not writing about men sporting baby bumps, I'm definitely reading about them!

I'm a native of Las Vegas, NV, so I'm pre-wired to love everything weird ~ although I don't find any kind of love to be weird. I'm a cis woman who's been happily married to the same lovable lug for 18 years. We have a 16yr old son, well, at least I think we do? Either that, or we have a ghost that eats all our food and uses up all wifi playing xbox while screaming into a headset.

As a new author, it's been amazing to find the amount of support that I've been given from readers and my fellow authors. Feel free to message me, I love to chat with fellow readers. Am I a reader? Heck yeah! In fact, I'm never certain that I can completely trust an author who isn't a fellow bibliophile.

I will try to update here when I'm doing promotional parties & chats. I usually do those on Facebook. If you haven't already signed up for my newsletter, you should totally do it! I only send out NL's to announce new releases or important announcements. I also like to note in my NL what I'm currently reading along with a cover shot and the link for anyone who is interested.

I look forward to interacting with everyone here!

If you're a fan of the big, tough omega and the smaller, sensitive alpha you're going to love Ties That Bind! Susi Hawke and Crista Crown do a great job with relationship dynamics, and Tony and Joey are adorable together.

There's a great balance between action and romance in this ongoing story of the mafia family Novak. In addition to all the steamy scenes between Tony and Joey, we get the dirty details of how Dex was conceived, plus some good dirt on a few of the Don's past activities. Hawke and Crown clearly had fun crafting this story.

It takes a bit of negotiation, but ultimately Tony and his crew find a solid home with the Novak family... just in time for an exciting ending! It's a great lead-in to the next episode of this series and I can't wait for the third book.

I'm loving Kirt Graves performing this series. There are a wide variety of characters and he comes up with unique voices for each of them. His accents are very well done, and he brings great emotion to the story.

Warning: dissenting opinion ahead (and I'm not going to be too careful of spoilers either just so you know)

It didn't even take 10% for me to know this one was going to cause teeth gritting, eye rolling, and generally a desire to DNF. I have read a lot of these two authors and at times it is a real mixed bag. I also knew going in that a role reversal situation is very tough to pull off while leaving the alpha still alpha and the omega believable.

So let's start with what went right:

No obnoxious as hell older woman (grandma) spouting sex talk all over. That's a thing and it didn't have it and I am so very, very thankful. It's a trope that makes me DNF unless I'm reading a book for the challenge and then I just want to throw my kindle at the wall the entire time.

The maturity level of the men did get slightly better as we went on - thank goodness. Sometime these author's make me feel like I'm reading books about teenagers - all giggly and such.

Cover guy is hot.

I really wanted to find out what happened to Tony. I read the earlier book with his brother and I was wondering his fate. This absolutely did give me closure there. I'm not unhappy with that.

And we can segue into what didn't work:

The sheer volume of characters. Yes you could read this as a stand-alone but you'll be lost or overwhelmed very quickly. There are so many people all the time in this book that I felt like I needed to go into a cave and hide. It's too short a story to contain this many people that matter - and it felt way too much like throwing in names because we've got more than a dozen related books and there was a desire to get everyone in. No.

Pretty much the mafia was missing. So these are Russian mafia yet the MC is referred to as a Guido. They don't speak Russian (very few words are spoken in this book) and they talk like the Italian mob. This threw me out of the story repeatedly. Nothing happens with the mafia. There is no purpose other than using "mafia" as a sort of boogey man. No one does anything bad (that isn't justified and to save someone else), there is no sense of fear or intimidation with this family. I don't get why there even IS mafia in here other than to have a "compound" and throw around some home security terms. These mafia have no teeth. None. All talk no action = no belief. It's beyond fluffy. To top it off - Tony has no problem apparently with the mafia --- he just sort of forgets about it and moves on. All right so we do know that the mafia generally does not only kill "bad people" and that they are normally involved in all sorts of illegal activities. Because you know if that was not the case they probably wouldn't be mafia. It is one of those things - and being so central to the story -it doesn't add up. Do not throw a Don in the book and have the worst thing he ever does is use an intimidating voice. I can't. IDK.

I didn't love Joey. Hell I didn't even like him at all the first 15%. TBH the way he was described I was sort of picturing a big guy with tufts of fur/hair sticking out of his white tank top with a ton of obnoxious gold chains and a very bad Jersey accent. Now let's just throw in the extra special fact that the very first introduction to him you get (where he is described as above) he has just come from working out and he stinks obnoxiously. A lot. So yep. That's your first impression of the MC. You want to date him? (but he does say that he could not ignore an order from his Dad the Don - and he didn't have a chance to go home and freshen up -- word choice. awkward.)

The way people talk - it's very stereotypical. Incorrect grammar. Again with the Jersey. Even though the story is set in Chicago you'd never know it.

I do not care to read a book that mention's farts and gas. I don't need that much realism in my romance. I don't really want to see teasing of a grown ass man about eating something and farting. I just don't. That makes the maturity level of the book take a nose dive. Please just stop with that. And it was another character from a book I think (IDK I get them confused as there is not much depth to many of the characters and I sometimes forget who is who).

Right away when Joey and Tony (and those names, I mean do I have to say stereotypical one more time even though this is a RUSSIAN mafia and not an Italian? See what I mean?) go to have sex you get words like cockslut. This is mere hours after meeting and finding themselves to be fated mates. It was so jarring to me. It's not that you cannot say things like that it just didn't fit. You have a totally fluffy mafia guy and a social worker or case worker (it's never stated really) and it just didn't add up. Boy I might have bought only because it had a bit more of the vibe. P.S. Joey's real name is Josef and I so wish they'd of use that.

The pregnancy was kind of odd. The alpha was the one crying and a great deal was made of the fact it was ok to cry. Too much maybe. It always felt like we're going to do this role reversal and we need to show X so that's what in the book and then we have to justify it. It wasn't only with the crying. Other things as well - trying too hard and it became overdone for me.

I didn't really feel Joey as a parent and it represented the whole kind of over the top trying to have the omega be the alpha. It just felt like too much. Not organic. I got Joey grew up proving himself - that's fine. And omega's can be strong. That's fine too. Here though I saw no omega at all. Other than being pregnant there is no sense of that - and combined with him being mafia it just didn't work. It was too fluffy, too exaggerated in the dirty talk. I thought for sure I was going to DNF this 15% in when (warning: bit of a spoiler) they leave Tony's son with a relative and then go to pick him up and he's not there. And they go to another relative to try and find him. Tony is freaking (I would be freaking as they just MET and these are Joey's relatives not Tony's). Then Joey is talking about Tony being upset for no reason. I was like WTF? I just met you asshole and I don't know you and my kid is MISSING and just WTF again? I think it was that moment where I knew this was going very far south. Practically to Antartica. Very unfortunately we get another "gotta be an understanding alpha because you know the role reversal thing" and he was all understanding and forgiving when Joey finally shared he was also not ok with what happened. Allright so why the hell did you tell someone else that Tony was getting upset for no good reason. A missing child is a good reason. No communication about who has said kid is a good reason. Is that family? Really? Huh.

And I was like Run. RUN. Especially since it seemed everyone who passed off Tony's son to each other was perfectly capable of texting or otherwise letting Joey/Tony know where his kid was - I wanted to beat the hell out of Joey and leave his slimy ass. Sorry.

And when you throw in things like sending a 4 year old (maybe 5? IDK it was never stated although I think there was another kid who it was said was close in age) to his room so you can go have sex. It just missed the mark. Hell it missed most of the target.

So, based on others' reviews, I'm odd person out. Not the first time that's happened.

4 stars!

This role reversal had me in my feelings! I love that we get to see a kick butt omega who is able to stand up for himself - and the children that need it. I also so enjoyed that the alpha was a bit of a gentle soul who chose to work within the bounds of the law to protect kids. I really enjoyed the quick repartee between Joey and Tony! They had such great back and forth and that convinced me they were meant for each other.

The nature of these stories is very quick because of their short length but somehow I never find myself thinking bits are rushed or anything like that. By the time the story makes it to the end I have gotten my share of cute moments and this book was no exception. The emotional vulnerability among family members and lovers alike just had me ready to climb into the story and hug everyone. There was a little less crime fighting in this book but there was plenty of other action to make up for it. The emotional vulnerability and action were perfectly balanced with humour every so often and that’s why this book got 4 stars!

…………. 4.5 stars!! ………….

I really enjoyed this book! Ties That Bind is currently my favorite book in this series. I just loved how Tony and Joey clashed but also how they were able to keep their work lives separate from their home life. I also loved how the Novak’s just kind of adopted Tony and his son Dex into the family. The one thing that I love above all else about this book (and this series) is that it focuses so much on family and building a little found family.

Ties That Bind is honestly one of the funniest books in any of these interconnected series. I was laughing and giggling through almost all of it. And for that alone it gets a solid four and a half stars. Truly one of the funniest books I’ve read so far this year!

Review: I read this immediately after Family Ties, where the MCs were kicking ass and taking names all over the city. There was also a lot of the mafia world, so I was expecting something similar with this book. But it was different. Less mafia, more family bonding.
The role reversal between Joey and Tony was a nice change, but there were some awkward moments. And poor Joey was described so unattractively, I could not get a good image of him in my head.
There were also a lot of characters from the other series in the book. Since I did not read the other series, it was confusing.

But despite all of that, I did enjoy the story because I really do like almost anything from Susi Hawke but I did like the first book better. I will probably go back and read the other series before I continue with the next book in this one. 3.5 stars

Oooo the filthy goodness!

I loved this book so much! I loved the characters the funny moments even the heart warming ones.

Character breakdown;

Joey: I did not expect to find this omega to be absolutely filthy with such a good heart. The way he easily accepted Tony and his son was adorable!

Tony: I knew he was a sensitive alpha but like damn he was really sensitive! Lol. But I did like that he still showed some alpha strength as well.

I loved how very different the two were, and how completely opposites they were. I think that this series is becoming my favorite very quickly! Mostly because of the Russian family mob! Also that almost cliffhanger? Really?!? Lol can't wait for the next one!!

Gentle Alpha and a Dominant Omega (an audio review)

I’m always fascinated with the fated mate theory. You smell your mate, accept that you’re bonded for life, and then move on with things. There’s a pregnancy and a happy ending. I’m also always a little in awe of the shifter world. I mean, in this book there is a bear shifter with a wolf shifter who wind up together. Finally there is the mafia element. I’m not always thrilled with books that glamorize that world. That being said, the Novak family are pretty tame, and it wasn’t until the end of the book that the mafioso ties of the family became so critical.

But I digress. Tony is a loving father to his son Dexter. He’s a gentle and soft alpha who also puts himself in harm’s way when there are children in danger. But he’s on the right side of the law. Joey lives in the gray side. He’s part of the Novak Family and they’ll step into the shadows if it means exacting retribution. He and Joey accept they’re meant to be together while also acknowledging life isn’t always simple.

When Joey is sent to resolve a domestic situation that has the potential to turn violent, he doesn’t believe himself to be in danger. He certainly would never knowingly endanger his unborn child. But when push comes to shove, he’s a protector through and through. This brings him into conflict with Tony who wants a nice simple drama-free life. Which is ironic because Tony was about to put himself into danger as well.

I love the family dynamics in this book. There are so many characters it can be hard to keep track. Some come from A.L.P.H.A. Team and some are from the Alphabits. I haven’t read all the books but am basically able to keep up so no worries if you haven’t read all the previous stories. I liked the twist at the end that has set up the next book in the series.

I’ll also comment on Kirt Graves’ narration. I always enjoy his work but I think he’s especially suited for this series because there are so many children. He just has a great voice for kids and I appreciate that. So, yeah, looking forward to the next book.

**********Contains Spoilers**********

I loved this book, even though it wasn’t as violent as Vasily & River’s book but Susi & Crista did state that it wasn’t going to be. I loved how we got to see how the dynamic between Joey a mafia omega who is tough whereas Tony works as a social worker and protects kids, he’s also a very sensitive soul as it’s certainly which is not the usual roles as the Alpha is meant to be protective of the omega as omegas are usual way smaller than the Alpha but no less plus omegas usually take on the role as stay at home parent but Tony would thrive in that role as he loved being a Manny. I can’t wait to see who is going to be next to find their mate while they hunt for Pavlo who was taken and I have so many questions that I’m looking forward to getting answered in the next book like who sh*t at Don Francis, who the mysterious girl at the picnic playing frisbee with Pavlo & was Pavlo &/or her involved in the whole thing as Pavlo was extremely scared of Tony & Joey after he was found in Joey’s room like was that because he was nervous about getting found out or was he just a nervous wreck because of where he grew up & how he was treated & I wonder why they were both taken. All I can say is the next few books are going to be a blood bath while they prepare to pretty much go to war yay. Lol I totally wasn’t expecting Adrian & Tony’s mum’s to know Don Francis that was a surprise but now I think about it those women are both bada*se so in a weird way it does make sense. I hoping Don Francis will eventually meet his true mate because him & the boys papa weren’t true mates it was an arrangement between their different mafia families. I love books by Susi & Crista collectively & separately and would recommend this book, series & the authors to anyone. You won’t be disappointed.

I didn't enjoy this one. I get that stereotyping is bad but surely we can find more believable typical Russian names for the Russian mafia MC than......Joey.

Joey. Joey and Tony. Sorry, it's giving Italian mafia. Kirt Graves being very ambiguous on the accents in the narration didn't do it any favors either.

The role reversal didn't quite hit for me either. Maybe the book was too short for me to buy that macho chip on the shoulder Joey was the omega. Other than the pregnancy, there's nothing else to sell it. This lacks the certain....softness to the omega that makes omegaverse hit like crack. No neediness, no nesting, no hiding heat, no nothing. Just.... This man is pregnant now. Sigh.

The accents were too similar so I struggled to tell them apart but one part that REALLY got my ears steaming was when they couldn't find MC 1's kid, and naturally he was spiraling about it, and MC 2 says something along the lines of 'I don't know why you're so upset about this, we'll find him.'

Like EXCUSE ME?! That's a lost child. This man just met you, his kid isn't where he was left and you're giving vague reassurances about how he must be somewhere with one of your big meddling family who can't be arsed to communicate, and you're annoyed that he's 'upset'?

Nothing about that was giving 'man you start a family with'.

Plus, somehow this fell into the category of fated mates trope where things progress so frightfully quickly that I wasn't sold on the love. It felt like these two were assigned a partner and then had to make it work.

And we don't even really get to see much of their conflicting lifestyles being an issue. A mafia guy and a social worker? Could have been gold.

Loved the idea, not so much the execution.

A social worker mated to the son of a Mafia Don. Family is everything, right?

What a rush! I have been in love with this world for a long time. From the first Team Alpha book, to the Alphabits spin-off, to this new series. The Family Novak is such a natural extension to the saga. This book grabbed me from the first pages & wouldn't let go. The characters come alive, making you care about them. Old friends are back. Families unite and compromises are made. Did I mention mpreg? The testosterone levels are off the charts! I love this book!
As the youngest, & only omega, in the Novak family, Joey has grown up tough. But he is a natural protector, dropping everything to go help a small boy. Tony is a social worker & single alpha dad. Making a connection with a small, traumatized boy, he is unprepared for the vibrant man who crashes into room. While the boy knows Joey, Tony only knows one thing...Joey is his mate.
Both men have unique families. Oddly enough, it seems the parents know each other. Odd because Joey's dad is the Mafia Don. You will laugh with all the brothers' antics, yell & scream with the kids, and never hear the words "bear pile" the same way again.
Come. Join Joey & Tony on their journey toward HEA. This story does not end here. It leaves you hanging, anxiously waiting for the third book to see what happens next. If you haven't done so, please read the first book. You will be glad you did.
This book contains adult themes and language, mm sex and is intended for mature readers only.

Audiobook review

I was really looking forward to listening to this second book in The Family Novak series. But, I'm afraid that River and Vasily may have ruined if not the rest of the series, then at least this one for me.

I actually listened to this a couple of weeks ago, but I wasn't sure how to review it, so I did a re-listen a couple of days ago. I was still disappointed. I have no problem with the role reversal trope, but I just could not connect with Tony and Joey as their own characters, let alone as fated mates.

We got enough character development to have a decent understanding of why the men are the way they are, but it just didn't feel right. Plus, the authors tried to bring in too many characters for such a short book. Yes, Joey is from the Russian Mafia, so he has a big, protective family. But, other than the Don leading the main house, and bringing old memories to the surface, there wasn't much "Mafia" to this Novak Mafia Family story.

Overall, I did grow more accustomed to the MCs by the end of the second listen, which prompted the 3rd star.

Kirt Graves did a great job with the narration. I believe he did the accents the authors wrote well, and as usual, he was able to carry the story off well.

Audio Review:
Story: 5
Performance: 5

Very enjoyable, great narration.

Ties That Bind is the first book I've read by this particular writing duo and I thought it was great. This is book 2 in The Family Novak series, which is a spin-off of the Team A.L.P.H.A. and Alphabits series. I haven't read book 1, nor have I read the previous 2 series, but that didn't prevent me from enjoying this story. I'm sure I would have gotten a little more out of it if I'd read book 1, Family Ties, but like I said, I still enjoyed it immensely.

The voices that Kirt Graves does for the various characters are fantastic. I love the accent he does for Joey Novak. Kirt doesn't just narrate this story, he performs it. The story contains several tense moments and kept me on the edge of my seat at times. There is some on-page violence but it happened to a very deserving character!

The romance for Tony and Joey has an HEA in this story but there is a bit of a cliffhanger so I'm really looking forward to reading the next book when it becomes available.

A complimentary copy of this audiobook was provided to me but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author and/or narrator.

After reading the first one in this series I was a bit worried that the omegas in this series were going to be the wannabe bada$$ type. There's nothing wrong with having an omega who can handle his own. However, after reading Pax (from Team Alpha) and River's stories I didn't like how the authors were portraying these kind of omegas.
BUTTTTTT!!!!
I really liked how Joey was portrayed. He is the only Novak brother that presented as an omega but he has made sure that his status doesn't change his place in the family or having his brothers and enemies view him as a weakness or liability.

Joey and Tony's mating is anything but easy. While there's not doubt that they are fated mates their life styles couldn't be more opposite. Joey Novak lives on the opposite side of the law than Tony does. It's almost the same kind of issues that the Novak family has with Cyrus...who chose to work in law enforcement. While I absolutely loved this book, I feel that this was a big issue that just kind of got swept under the rug. I don't feel like Joey and Tony really hashed out the issues that could arise from them being together and yet both living on opposite sides of the law.

I've been wanting to read more about Joey since we met him in Cyrus's book in the Alphabits Series. He's definitely not your regular, run-of-the-mill Omega, what with him holding his own against his very Alpha brothers and being an integral part of their mob family. He's all shades of gray, something he tries to make Tony, a straight-laced social worker and Joey's fated mate, see.

I just loved Joey and Tony together, even if they were on opposites sides of the law at first, it didn't take long for Tony to understand that the Novak family wasn't as bad as he expected.

Ties That Bind is on the short side, but it's action-packed, fast-paced and filled with humor, hot Alpha/Omega sexiness and fantastic family dynamics.

I've had the chance to listen to two books narrated by Kirt Graves back to back, one with him doing a Latin accent and now in Ties That Bind, doing a Russian one and both were really good. He has a knack to make the listener feel connected to the characters and the story through his voice, making them feel almost real.

Definitely recommendable!

4.2 ⭐s The Family he Fears but Desires to be a Part of
Reviewed in the United States on October 30, 2021
Former policeman Cyrus Novak had gotten along with social worker Tony Peterson because they were on the same side of the law when it came to helping shifter youngsters who found themselves in the system. Tony was great at helping The Alphabits place shifter children with carrying shifter families. He never imagined his Omega mate would not only be from a notorious mob family but larger and stronger than many Alphas.

Joey had to physically fight his brothers to win their respect and that of their Mafia Don father. He never saw himself as settling down with an Alpha since he was such an atypical Omega. It would take a very special Alpha who believed he and his Omega were equals to win his heart. Tony was hesitant because he had a young son to care for. Could he expose the boy to the dangers of his Fated's criminal organization that he's firmly emeshed in?

In a place where black and white blur into grey, good and evil keep the same company, and omega's can be bigger and badder than their alpha counterparts, lives a mafia omega and his mated social services alpha.

When the job finds them together on the same case, they smell how their life has suddenly changed. But, taking advantage of the situation has to wait, as there are other issues at play.

This was a really enjoyable listen for me. It was fast paced, and if you kept up with the Alphabits or Team Alpha stories, some things left unsaid were revealed here regarding the Don's family and the Novak's. Brilliantly narrated, ALL of the characters were amazing, the story was witty and funny and I'd absolutely recommend it.

Another fantastic addition to this great series

I absolutely love this series, and this book was no exception. I also love that it included characters from the ALPHA & Alphabits series' too, as both were awesome series to read. If you haven't already read them, I would highly recommend that you do prior to beginning this series. It's not necessary, but you will have a better understanding of the characters, each group, and the dynamics between them. You certainly won't be disappointed with any of these series!
I would definitely recommend this book, series, and exceptional authors.

Holy Dang

I'm so glad Joey and Tony got their story. The moment Tony freaked out on the Novak boys for bear piling on Joey though, my heart stopped because I knew what was coming. I cant believe they made Tony go commando in his singlet, that's just mean. Serves them right for having to avert their eyes when they finished wrestling. And poor Boris when he tried to video call the family...scarred for life. I cant wait to see what happens in the next book and who could possibly think they can challenge The Novaks and get away with it.

Delightful

I loved that both Tony and Joey found that their atypical qualities were a perfect fit for each other. Though he had love from his family, I got the feeling that Joey feared that he would always be alone for not being a meek, twinky omega. Tony, similarly, seemed to think that he was too soft for what an omega would want.

I can't wait to see where this goes now that someone seems to have decided to pick a fight with the Novaks. And with their toes to the Alphabits and STAHP, I can't imagine that is a good thing to do.

Loved this second book, too!
I was wondering what kind of an Alpha it would take to be a perfect match for Joey, who's big, buff and grupp. Turns out a kind and caring wolf as Tony, who not only is smaller in size than Joey, but is also gentle and patient is the answer!
I love all the Novak family. They may not be the most upstanding citizen, buit they're good people, they love aech other and their extended family fiercly and they protect those who matter to them (and who deserve it).
Can't wait for more!

Ties That Bind

MMy Thoughts and Review:

I haven't read the Alpha-bits Series yet, but I can say you don't have to, to enjoy the Novak Clan and their extended family and friends. While these bear shifters live their lives wading in a pool of morally ambiguous shades of gray, they believe in saving children, women, and always being there for each other, no matter the sacrifice.

In this story, Joey Novak is in the minority in his clan because he is an omega among numerous alphas. While Joey's father and brothers love him and never made him feel less than, Joey was harder on himself, always believing he had to prove himself to his family.

Once Joey meets his mate, an alpha who happens to be a social worker and single dad, Joey must tame his brusqueness or risk losing the sensitive alpha and little boy he grows to cherish. Tony and his young son Dex have already been through so many trials and tribulations, Tony won't jeopardize Dexter's happiness even if it costs him his own.

This omegaverse is everything you'd expect from a Susi Hawke/ Crista Crowne collaboration. Siblings who have inside jokes, doting parents and grandparents, loads of adulting sMMexy things, cute kids, and tender moments to give you warm fuzzies, and who doesn't like those?

Bring on the next one! This one ended with a "What the..." so I'm looking forward to what happens next!

The Family

Adrian's brother Tony and his son Dex finally get their happy ever after with one of the big bad Novak's. Cyrus's Omega kid brother never expected to find an Alpha that would treasure him for who he really is and yet Tony is everything he never knew he wanted. If only Tony can reconcile his beliefs with the Mafia family he could be joining with.

There are a lot of laughs. Some violence. And one hell of a cliffhanger in the next installment of The Family Novak. A thoroughly enjoyable Free Kindle Unlimited story.

I love the switch in dynamics for Joey and Tony. A laid back Alpha and huge, in your face omega make a great pairing. Add in Tony’s ‘right side of the law’ job and Joey’s ‘criminal family’ and lots of hijinks ensue. One of the things I love about all of the books across this world is how the kids needs always come first. I’m so glad Tony, Joey and Dex (and little Vera of course)found such a wonderful HEA.

Joey and Tony are just the sweetest and so perfect for each other, even if they do come from different sides of the law. I thought they had great chemistry and a good understanding of what each other needed. Tony was so accepting of Joey as Joey wasn't a typical Omega.

There is very light drama, but lots of love and a close-knit family.

Kirt Graves did a pretty good job. I liked his accent for Joey and his family.

Hated everything about this book, and have a feeling it has a lot to do with these authors as much as it is about what was in the book. If I wasn't reading this for a challenge, I would have DNF this book after the first chapter.

This review right here, all of the things she mentions are wrong, hit the nail on the head and I don't need to reiterate everything again: Jo's Amazing Review

I love spin-offs and the second book in this spin-off of the Team A.L.P.H.A. and Alphabits series is even better than book 1. Tony and Joey as fated mates made a wonderful couple and how they found each other in the middle of a difficult case, was really sweet and heartwarming. As always, family was just at their side standing strong before all the dangerous situations they confronted while fighting evil. I can't wait to learn what happens after the cliffhanger at the end of the book!!

Shifter MM MPREG

2 stars!

I liked this less than book 1. I'm not sure I liked these 2 as a couple. They seemed odd together and less like a compliment like I think was intended.

I also found the balance of mafia family and civilian on the right side of the law to be off. I think they never really figured out a balance.

After book 1 being quite good book 2 was a let down.

I truly enjoyed the premise of a shifter (bears) Mafia family which totally makes for a compelling story. This was very well written and moved at a nice smooth pace. I appreciated the relationship between Joey and Tony and how they worked everything out together. The children were adorable and the characters were delightful (except for one). I really like this series and I'm off to read the next book. This was fabulous.
