Christmas on Reindeer Road

Rate this book
Fans of RaeAnne Thayne and Debbie Macomber will love this USA Today bestselling author's latest holiday romance about two single parents whose holiday wishes come true in the small town of Highland Falls.

Can the magic of mistletoe bring together two busy single parents?

Mallory Maitland knows all too well what it's like to feel abandoned, which is why she's sworn never to give up on her two stepsons—her late husband's children. But when the teens land in hot water, she's got a whole new problem: how to resist the caring and incredibly hot Chief of Police Gabriel Buchanan. All Mallory wants is to give the boys a magical holiday. She doesn't need the distraction of wondering what it would be like to kiss Gabriel under the mistletoe.

After his wife died, Gabriel left his job as an adrenaline-chasing New York City homicide detective to focus on raising his three sons. But back in Highland Falls, he doesn't have to go looking for trouble. It finds him—in the form of a beautiful neighbor and her troublemaking stepchildren. With Gabriel's mother-in-law looking for any excuse to gain custody of his sons, Gabriel can't risk getting involved with Mallory, even though she's the only woman capable of making this Christmas—and all the rest to come—his best ever.

I love the Christmas season and I love to read at least one Christmas novel a year.

Christmas on Reindeer Road is the second book in the Highland Falls series. I enjoyed Abby and Hunter’s story (Summer on Honeysuckle Ridge) and I was looking forward to Mallory and Gabriel's HEA. Both characters appeared in the first book so I knew they could be great together.

Let's start by saying that Mallory and Gabriel have major family issues.

Mallory who is a medical doctor, grew up in foster care after the loss of her mother. As an adult, she married an older man who passed away and now she is moving back to her hometown with her two stepsons who aren’t happy about her decision. They make Mallory miserable in any way possible. Yet, Mallory is sure that the Christmas spirit can change the way the boys think about her and her hometown.

Gabriel Buchanan is the Chief of Police in Highland Falls. He’s a widower and he has three sons. The twins are always getting into trouble and the youngest one, Teddy is a sweetheart who believes in Santa and miracles. Teddy's main wish for Christmas is to have a new mom and he thinks Mallory can be the perfect mom and wife for them.

However, there are more than a few issues that separate Mallory and Gabriel from getting together and maybe they do need a miracle to overcome the obstacles they both are facing.

Such a cute story! Teddy was adorable. He stole the book with all his wishes.

I was happy to get glimpses of Abby and Hunter and how well they were doing together.

Cliffhanger: No

This is a Christmas Romance, and this is the second book in the Highland Falls series. Mallory lost husband, and she is fighting to keep her late husband's kids. Gabriel lost his wife, and his in-laws is fighting to get custody of his sons. This book is more about getting use to raising their kids by themselves, and them fighting for custody. I enjoyed this book, but I think if you are looking for a romance or a cute Christmas story you will be disappointed. I would not call this a romance, but I would call it more women's fiction or chick-lit. The characters where easy to love, and you learn so much about them though out the book. I really wish there was more sparks or romance between Mallory and Gabriel. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Forever) or author (Debbie Mason) via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review about how I feel about this book, and I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

Debbie Mason has done it again! This is only my second novel from this author, and I loved it just as much as the first.

Christmas on Reindeer road is the second installment of the Highland Falls series. The first one was Summer on Honeysuckle Ridge. Each of these novels can be read as a stand alone. However, you will appreciate Christmas on Reindeer Road a lot more if you read the first installment.

The descriptive summary of the novel pretty much outlines the story so I won't go into detail on what Christmas on Reindeer road is about. What I will say is that you will laugh at the awkward moments, and you will cry at those poignant moments

Christmas on Reindeer Road is a thoroughly entertaining romance novel which will make you feel warm and fuzzy all over. With a Christmas setting, how else can you not feel comfy and cozy after reading this novel?

4.5 stars rounded up. I really liked this novel. It is a feel good romance with an enchanting ending.

I received a digital ARC from Forever/Grand Central Publishing. The review herein is completely my own and contains my honest thoughts and opinions.

This was such a different read from what I expected and I absolutely adored it! First off, I thought the story was quite unique with the 'Brady Bunch' style of family characters. Trust me, you'll get what I'm talking about if you read this book. I've read romances where one (or both) of the main characters are widowers but Mallory's circumstances are.....quite different. I'll leave it at that but I liked how it added such a different element into the story.

Also, this novel was FUNNY. Seriously. There were some laugh-out-loud moments that had me hooting and hollering. A couple honourable mentions were the bathtub scene along with the garage scene. Oh my goodness, just thinking back to those moments has me chuckling.

It was the perfect mixture of comedy, romance, and emotion combined into one story. I'd love to see this adapted into a Christmas movie because it's so unique and would no doubt make for an enjoyable (and entertaining) movie.

4 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is a holiday romance taking place in Highlands Fall, North Carolina. This was my first book reading of Debbie Mason and at times I caught myself giggling and smirking. She has written a very cute story about love, death, relationships and the spirit of Christmas. Everything was woven together so well that the love and magic of Christmas is what grabbed me most.
Gabe Buchanan is Chief of Police in this small town. Gabe keeps finding himself on the wrong side of trouble…Drat! The women in this town!!! Can they just stay out of his business?
He is widowed and has 3 active boys. The son that drives the story is Teddy and he is six years old. Teddy insistently wants a wive for his dad for Christmas and he tells Santa this. This little boy is a hoot but can’t be taken lightly.
Mallory Maitland is a widow and has just relocated to Highlands Falls. Taking a job as director of Senior programming she will be crossing paths with the Chief of Police often. Whoa, Gabe is hot and handsome and Mallory’s heart says she better keep her distance. She has her two stepsons in tow and they are not happy about relocating, being with their step mom, or leaving the private school in London they have lived at. I think one of the funniest things that happen in this story is when Gabe, a new neighbor, has to jam the bathroom door open, Mallory in the tub with her toe stuck in the faucet! The excitement doesn’t end there…
There are fun twists and turns to this love match. The people in the community keep their whispers interesting and if Gabe doesn’t watch out he will lose custody to his boys to the grandparents.
A very entertaining read and recommended.

We were introduced to Mallory Maitland in Summer on Honeysuckle Ridge and I was wondering what would happen with her back in Atlanta. We also met Chief Gabriel Buchanan when he first arrived in town in the previous book. This book starts with her returning to Highland Falls with her teenage stepsons, who are not happy at all to be with her. They would prefer to be at their boarding school in England, but all of the money from their father's estate ended up going to his first wife and she will not pay for them to go there. They disappear when they stop for a bathroom break close to town and make false accusations of her of mistreating them in an attempt to get back to Atlanta. This leads to social services being involved throughout the book.

Mallory and Gabe become neighbors due to Abby finding the house next door for her to rent. Gabe has his own issues over his three sons with the parents of his deceased wife. This leads to them tiptoeing around their attraction to each other because they do not want to risk losing the boys. Adding in the senior citizens and Abby's videos leads to lots of funny moments in this Christmas story.

I look forward to the next adventure in Highland Falls.

I received a copy of this book to review from the publisher, Forever, through NetGalley and thoroughly enjoyed it.

A sweet romance between two people traumatized by bad relationships. Both have strong defenses against falling in love, but it happens anyway.
Both bury themselves in their work , but have strong friendships.
Ms. Mason weaves a sweet and amusing tale with a little intrigue added to the mix. Her characters are well rounded and for the most part extremely likable. She adds a little paranormal...granny in the garden and it hits all the right notes.
Mallory and Gabriel heal as they open up to each other and eventually get to their happy-ever- after.
I requested and received a NetGalley ARC and highly recommend this contemporary love story.

I adore Debbie Mason and her Christmas books. Whenever I am able to find one of these wonderful books, I grab it instantly and know I need to read it. They are wonderful, contemporary romance reads that make me smile. This book will make you a wee bit sad due to the widow and widower storyline, but overall this book will warm your heart and fill you with some Christmas cheer.

Four out of five stars.

Sweet, jolly, and heartwarming!

Christmas on Reindeer Road is a charming, tender tale that takes us back to Highland Falls and into the life of the determined, kindhearted Mallory Maitland as she meanders through all sorts of highs and lows, from losing her husband, fighting for custody of her two stepsons, moving to a new town, starting a new job, and fighting the undeniable attraction she feels for her neighbour, the widowed chief of police, Gabriel Buchanan, who’s busy single-handedly raising three boys of his own.

The prose is light and smooth. The characters are focused, supportive, and compassionate. And the plot is an alluring tale about loss, life, love, family, friendship, community, parenthood, romance, wintery shenanigans, self-discovery, taking chances, and moving on.

Overall, Christmas on Reindeer Road is an amusing, uplifting, entertaining tale by Mason that is perfect for anyone who enjoys a holiday romance that is not only heartfelt but also exceptionally cute and funny.

Debbie Mason has created a sweet easy to read Christmas romance that is lighthearted and will bring happy tears to your eyes. This was a quick read for me, but I'm still thinking about the characters and their lives.

I enjoyed Debbie Mason's writing, it was full of a bit of everything, love, sadness, hope, joy, forgiveness, and humor. She painted a wonderful holly jolly Christmas for all of us to enjoy, and what's not to love about a small town at Christmas, not to mention a super sexy small-town Chief of Police?

There are those authors that you can't wait to read them the second they come out with a new book. Mason is one of those authors for me.

I just love her!

I've been loving this new series by her. Christmas on Reindeer Road is the second book in her Highland Falls series. It's Mallory and Gabe. Two really great characters. I have to admit that I really liked them both.

Mallory is the sweetest thing. She works so hard to make others happy and gets hurt so easily. You won't be able to not feel for her. Her childhood is full of so many sad moments. You just want to give her a hug and make her feel better.

Gabe is no better he too needs a hug and at times a backbone. The way he lets his mother-in-law treat him is so wrong. He needs to tell her to back off. I love how he treats his sons and Teddy is just...he takes over some of the stories, his character is that good.

You'll love how these two just fall into a relationship. It takes them and even the reader a minute to figure out that they are together. It just happens so seamlessly. You'll also love the boys. All of them even with Teddy stealing the story.

I loved visiting with all the characters and seeing how everyone has come together. This is the perfect story for the holidays. Make sure to pick up Summer on Honeysuckle Ridge first so you can read about Abby who is one of my favorite characters. You've got to love her.

I can't wait to see what comes next in this series. I know it will be wonderful and fun to read.

If this book doesn't put you in the holiday spirit, nothing will. I adored every single word. The characters leaped from the pages straight into my heart. And the emotional depth in this story. It has *all* the feels! Honestly, I just wanted to wrap my arms around these characters and hug them tight. I loved them so much.

I've been reading Debbie Mason since her debut and more than a few of her books have been 5-star reads for me but this one, this one is special. I had already pre-ordered Christmas on Reindeer Road in e-book (because I have limited space) but after reading the ARC I'll also be ordering it in print. It's joining my special holiday shelf of books; those I can see, touch, and curl up with in front of my Christmas tree every year as I once again revisit beloved characters and lose myself in their journeys to a happily ever after.

I highly recommend you add Christmas on Reindeer Road to your holiday reading list.

Review: 🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏻‍♀️.5/5

“And just so you know, it’s been scientifically proven that people who believe in the magic of the holidays are happier than those who don’t.”

If I could describe Christmas on Reindeer Road in one word, it would be: heartwarming. So heartwarming. Mallory had every card stacked against her, and she was still a great and kind person. I adored the MC. It’s so hard to not cheer for the characters in this book. From Dot and Kayla to Owen and Boyd, you just have all the feels as the magic of Christmas mends fields or broken relationships. Of course, Teddy is the perfect youngest child bringing the childlike joy of Christmas on the pages.

I do find it gross and icky that someone would abuse their power and put 2 children’s livelihood in jeopardy just because. I’m thankful those ended in such positive terms, but I felt anger rise up in me during the helplessness of it all for not only Mallory, but Gabe’s situation as well.

This one is enjoyable for any Grinch that is trying to find the true meaning of Christmas, those that could be a secret Elf for Santa, and those who like to see the good in every situation.

Thank you so much Forever & NetGalley for the ARC! This one is out Sept 29th ❤️

Mallory Maitland's life definitely hasn't turned out the way she ever thought it would. After the death of her mother her father abandoned her so with the death of her husband she knows she must do what she can to make sure her step sons never feel that way. Although she never thought she would Mallory returns to her home town in hopes of giving the boys a stable life. Her step sons aren't making things easy for any of them but Mallory is determined to do right by her husband. Gabriel Buchanan is the police chief of Highland Falls but several of the older residents aren't making his job easy. After the death of his wife he decided he needed to move his three sons to a small town where he would be less likely to get hurt on the job. He doesn't have time for a relationship and worries that if he did get involved with someone what his mother-in-law might do. Mallory and Gabriel have instant chemistry but neither is looking for love. The two dance around their feelings, with so much to worry about who has time to start a new relationship? Life has a way of stepping in though and the two are thrown together again and again. Will either let go of their feelings and be open to new possibilities or will fear shut them down? Mason delivers a delightful romance that always brings her characters to life and has a way of pulling emotions from her readers. I always have a box of tissues next to me when I read one of her books because I know along with the laughter there will be a few tears.

Christmas on Reindeer Road was a sweet, touching, and entertaining story! I laughed, cried, and cheered my way through. It was a truly wonderful read!

Gabe and Mallory were great characters. I adored Mallory and all she was doing for her stepsons and learning all the details related to their lives together. I felt for Gabe and what he was going through but admired his determination to do all he could for his boys. He and Mallory were so sweet together, I liked the bit of animosity they had in the beginning and loved their growing friendship, connection, and attraction. There were so many fun, playful scenes between these two that had me smiling.

There's an excellent cast of characters, from good guys to bad guys, that played into the story so well. Anything involving Gabe’s son Teddy was priceless, he was a little matchmaker and I adored his antics. I liked how all the kids were involved in the story and how the two families connected and I adored the different relationships taking place between Mallory, Gabe, and all the kids.

Right in the beginning, there was a lot being laid out, but after a chapter or two, I was all in. I liked the different layers, dynamics, and details. I was caught up in all the drama, stress, and emotion and turning the page as fast as I could because I couldn't wait for Gabe and Mallory to get together.

I thought there was really good character development, loved the build, and was caught up in it all. This was a light, entertaining read filled with goodness and heart and a nice amount of emotion mixed in. There’s a lot of conflicts presented and everything wrapped up nicely. I love how the theme of Christmas played into it as well. This was a delightful and heartfelt story full of Christmas cheer!

WHEN A 5 YEAR OLD PLAYS MATCHMAKER, I AM SMITTEN!!!

This second installment in the Highland Falls thing deals with 2 people who have lost their spouses. Mallory now has full custody of her 2 teenage sons. She just moved them back to Highland Falls for a change of space, and because Mallory got a job in her hometown.

Gabe is the new town chief of police, raising 3 young boys, while also dealing with the criticism of his deceased wife's parents. While adjusting to his position, he has to deal with his budding feelings for his new neighbor, whom he started crushing on when she was in town last summer.

Mason's Christmas novels are always so charming to me. I really enjoyed this one, and am seriously in love with the youngest Buchanan boy, Teddy

P.S. This is officially my favorite Debbie Mason series.

My husband looked at my quizzically when I started laughing uncontrollably with my head buried in this book. I haven’t read a romance novel this laugh-out-loud funny in a long time. Peppered with steam between two characters with tense chemistry and all the havoc two sets of families can cause. Teen boys who blame Mallory, their stepmother, for everything—including their father’s death. Gabe’s mother-in-law who would like nothing more than to control his and his son’s lives, and matchmaking friends help to make things go terribly wrong. A small town that knows and judges everything, gossip, and poignant scenes. A shining example of how fun and chaotic Christmas can be, especially when blending families. Heartfelt romance at its best. But this isn't just a Christmas story. It can be enjoyed any time of the year. So, so good.

This was a fun Christmas story covering lots of emotions...love, loss, friendship, reconnecting. It’s easy to fall in love with the characters; most of them anyway. The storyline was fast paced and a real page turner! I was sad to have the book end, and I’m hoping I’ll revisit these characters in the next book in this series. Christmas on Reindeer Road by Debbie Mason is the second book in the Highland Falls Series.
While this is a second book in a series, the book can be a stand alone. However Summer on Honeysuckle Ridge was a great read, so I suggest you read them both!!

Mallory and her step sons need to start over. Mallory is not willing to fight anymore. She and the boys move to Highland Falls. Mallory grew up in this small town but the boys are disgusted they have to leave Atlanta. She has a new position and a cute house on Reindeer Road.

Her entrance into town caused a bit of a ruckus as the boys hitched a ride with a trucker and a story of abuse. By the time this is all over, she has a huge hole to climb out of with people. It doesn’t help that the Chief of Police is the person who is supposed to supervise her with the boys and is her next door neighbor. Only nothing really is as seen. He is a widower with 3 boys of his own and a mother-in-law who is so upset by her daughter’s death that she wants to take over the raising of boys and is angry all the time.

I love the setting of a small town filled with people of Scottish descent (as I am one too). I love the small town feel with everyone helping everyone. Mostly I loved the feeling of Christmas and the beliefs of love and hope fill the season.

This book is a hoot just like the first book. There are many scenes that can cause you to snicker and chuckle out loud. The characters are great. I loved Mallory and her positive look on life. Gabriel is just hot! I didn’t like how fear ruled Gabriel’s life so long, but I can see how it happened. What a great couple and 5 boys...WOW. Christmas on Reindeer Road by Debbie Mason is a fun, holiday, great read!!

A festive Christmas romance! This is a Brady Bunch style romance with two main characters with children. The writing is incredibly descriptive and has a flair for the dramatic, perfect for a Christmas book. At times a bit cheesy and over the top, but this is a Christmas book so I enjoyed it and expected no less. The characters are fantastic and full of personality. My thanks to the publisher for the advance reader in exchange for my honest review.

This is a story of Mallory and her desire and hope to make a new start, be included and find her place after years of feeling the outsider and unwanted. Returning to Highland Falls after leaving in care as a child, she’s brought her two stepsons after their father (and her husband’s) death. Whether or not the boys are happy to leave Atlanta isn’t the issue: they’ve decided that Mallory, and not their mother, is the reason they’re ‘banished’ to the small town and will do everything in their power to return to the life they knew.

When they cause a scene in their first 10 minutes in town, and Mallory faces off with her former crush and now new sheriff in town, the need Mallory has to show she’s changed, and Gabriel’s struggle with the townsfolk and his predecessor make the story sing. With both Mallory having to face her past and incorporate two teen boys with a penchant for trouble into her new small-town life and find a way to afford it all and Gabriel’s struggle with his own parenting issues, his former in laws and his youngest son being full of the Christmas spirit, everyone has struggles and issues – most of which they don’t share until the chips are truly down.

This shot up the favorites list because of the characters, their struggles and the continued growth for everyone involved. As Gabriel understood Mallory’s issues and shared his own, and his youngest son attached himself to Mallory as a new “mother figure”, along with some softening from the townspeople who were still loyal to both the former sheriff and expecting Mallory to be as dysfunctional as her father had been: the story is laden with expectations, stories, heart and plenty of opportunities for everyone to see things with new eyes. A defined connection with Mallory and Gabriel, the kids coming to see the good, bad and reality of their situations, and plenty of Christmas spirit to go around, the story will leave you excited and hopeful in the magic that the season can bring.

I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Mallory is not sure what she has signed up for. She just got custody of her two step-son, she agreed to take on a new job, and that means moving back home to her childhood town. Where she does not have a happy childhood past, and the step-sons are beyond annoyed that they are moving from the big city, and that they were taken out of their England boarding school. And they hate her, everything is her fault- so it appears.

Gabe, newer Chief of Police of Highland Falls usually has a pretty low key job, but when Mallory and her good for nothing step-sons show up, action happens and it reminds him of what he misses when he was an NYC homicide detective, but a family had other plans and so here he is.

The two of them, having met the summer before and under not well circumstances, is once again brought together. This time it is not Mallory causing the trouble, but some in town are not happy to see she is back, or to hear she is heading up the senior project. How can she think she can possible handle that position, being she hasn’t lived in this town for years and she is from a big city. Things are handled different in the small towns.

As Mallory and the step-sons try to integrate into Highland Falls, it seems it is one thing after another and it either involves Mallory or Gabe and some how the other also gets tangled in the situation. Can the two of them, being looked at as both outsiders pull of proving they belong here and are meant to do nothing but help the quaint little town out, or will they be driven out as others continue to meddle in things.

Thank you at Forever Publishing for the free book. It was an easy, fast paced read, with a bit of suspense sprinkled through out, and the meaning of Christmas through out the theme.

About the book:
Can the magic of mistletoe bring together two busy single parents?
Mallory Maitland knows all too well what it's like to feel abandoned, which is why she's sworn never to give up on her two stepsons -- her late husband's children.
It finds him -- in the form of a beautiful neighbor and her troublemaking stepchildren. With Gabriel's mother-in-law looking for any excuse to gain custody of his sons, Gabriel can't risk getting involved with Mallory, even though she's the only woman capable of making this Christmas -- and all the rest to come -- his best ever.

This is the 2nd of a new series out buy this author. I absolutely loved this book the characters were great I love how this all turn out. The setting was brilliant!
I highly recommend this new series! I'm looking forward to the next one in this series.

4.5 stars, rounded up to 5.

I received Christmas on Reindeer Road as part of a Christmas in July feature on NetGalley from Forever, and it was a great romance read to celebrate Christmas in July! Christmas on Reindeer Road is listed as the second book in the Highland Falls series by Debbie Mason, but I read this one as a standalone without reading the previous book in the series, and I didn’t feel like I was missing much without reading the first book. The author works in the relevant background information without that information bogging down the rest of the story.

This story is a sweet Christmas romance that really does a great job in giving the reader a found family to root for, as Mallory Maitland relocates to the small town of Highland Falls with her stepsons after her husband’s death. There, she meets and begins a complicated relationship with Gabriel, the chief of police with three sons of his own. The story is heartwarming, and I particularly loved Gabriel’s youngest son and the friendships the five boys develop over the course of the story, despite being different ages.

Warning: This book discusses some sensitive topics that may be triggering for some readers including death of a loved one, grief, and family trauma.

Many thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the digital copy in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Welcome back to Highland Falls! I was so excited to get Mallory's story so when this showed up in my book mail... well... BEYOND EXCITED would better describe me.

It's a story of healing the past by letting it go and realizing that love can still be found. It's sweet. It's affirming and its a taste of Christmas. Christmas on Reindeer Road is what I like to call a stocking stuffer read. A perfect gift for anyone who loves romance with a holiday setting.

I love Christmas and I love reading Christmas Books. I don't like to give away books in my reviews so this will be short.

Debbie Mason has done it again in my opinion. I really enjoyed this book, the second in the Highland Falls series. I was excited to read Mallory and Gabriel's story.

Mallory and Gabriel both have family issues to work through. I was glad to read that in the end everything worked out for the best! I feel this was a sweet romance story.

I also love that the books in this series can be read as stand alone novels.

I didn’t really connect with this book. I don’t know if maybe I needed to read the first one or what but I just didn’t feel any connection to the story or the characters. Maybe I was expecting more Christmas themed book but for me it felt way more about family. Which I guess is what Christmas is about but this just fell flat for me. I really wanted to like it!
