Recognize, confront, and conquer the fears holding you back from living boldly and freely with renowned Bible teacher and New York Times bestselling author, Joyce Meyer.
Fear is the devil's favorite tool in the toolbox of schemes he uses to destroy God's good plan for you. He uses it to hold you back and prevent progress in your relationships, career, and more.
In Do It Afraid, Joyce Meyer explains that fear is everywhere and affects everyone. It rules many people, but it doesn't have to rule you any longer. She will teach you how to:
Understand fear and recognize how it works in your life. Confront those fears that are holding you back. Change your mindset for lasting freedom from some of the most common fears people face.
Remember, courage isn't the absence of fear; it is learning how to move forward in the presence of fear. Courageous people do what they believe in their hearts they should do, no matter how they feel or what doubts fill their minds. When you take ownership of your problems and open your heart to God, He will help bring light into darkness so that you can be free.

Joyce Meyer is a big time Christian author and minister. I’ve never really been that into her books, but this book attracted me. The lion on the cover, the script used for the title, and the subtitle- “Embracing Courage in the Face of Fear”-really appealed to me.
Rather than telling me not to be afraid, Ms. Meyer told me to do things in the face of my fears. In defiance of them. I have missed out on a lot because of fear of failure. Who hasn’t? The author’s Christian perspective was honest and consistent, and it made the book more applicable to me. The book is laid out by common fears.
I really do think I will look at taking chances differently in the future.
A favorite quote: If at first you don’t succeed, you’re normal.
In this book, Joyce Meyer encourages her readers to DO IT AFRAID. I must admit, that message spoke loud and clear in my own life! Joyce provides tips on confronting fear, understanding fear, emphasizing that fear is an emotion that can be overcome and stresses the particular mindsets for walking in freedom from fear (an add-on to another book of Joyce's I love, "Battlefield of the Mind"). Joyce includes a quote at the start of every chapter pertaining to fear, faith and courage. And before every chapter, there is a personal testimony from someone who overcame their personal fears in life. She gives specific chapters on the things that universally we are afraid of like: fear of rejection, financial fears, fear of the future, fear of death (among others!). Joyce uses personal testimonies of her family life and faith journey as well as corresponds her ideas with scripture. At the end of the book, Joyce provides Empowering Scriptures to Fight Fear as a reference. I definitely recommend this book! Each chapter truly ministered to me and I stand confident and secure, not allowing fear to stop me from my destiny in life!

In this day and age, fear seems to run rampant. People are afraid of the virus in the pandemic, worried about their finances, and struggling to get along with people on opposite political party lines. In Joyce Meyer's new book, Do It Afraid, she shares how faith in God can help readers deal with many of their fears.
At the start of the book, Meyer reminds readers that fear has been around a very long time and it affects everyone. However, she urges readers not to let fear "push them around." Instead she starts out the book in the first section by helping readers understand fear. She then goes on to help them confront fear and to have the courage they need to do that. The third part of the book offers advice on the mindsets to have to walk in freedom from fear.
Like all of Joyce Meyer's books, Do It Afraid is clear and easy to understand and relate to. She writes in such a way so the reader is reminded of the Scriptures that relate to each topic while including stories from her own life that relate well. Meyer doesn't hold back she just shares from her heart matter-of-factly. I like that she is easy to relate to and understand. One other feature of this book is that she also shares stories at the end of each chapter from other real life people. This helps the reader feel like they are not alone in their struggles. Do It Afraid would be a good addition to any home library. I have to add that this book has one of the most gorgeous covers that I have seen on a Meyer book. Under the vellum dust jacket is a gorgeous lion picture.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions within this review are my own. #sponsoredbyfaithwords
Meyer is one of my favorite authors. She is encouraging and provides practical Bible teaching. She does it again in this book about fear.
Each of us faces fear at some time in our life. Meyer says fear will never go away but we can learn to manage it. She helps us understand fear and how it works in our lives. She teaches us how to confront the most common fears. There are many examples from her own life as well a great teaching from the Bible.
Meyer reminds us fear is the devil's favorite tool to prevent us from progressing in every area of our lives. She says we need knowledge of fear and how it works to be able to break free from it. I was surprised by Meyer sharing her experience of asking God to remove her fear. It didn't work. She realized she should have prayed for courage to move forward in the face of fear, to do it afraid. We also need wisdom, she says, to not do foolish things but stay within God's guidelines.
The greatest challenge for me in Meyer's book was to love even in the midst of the fear of being hurt again. She suggests, based on 1 John 3:14, if we do not love we are the “walking dead.” (1972/3644) “Whatever else our purpose is for being on earth, our primary purpose is to let God's love flow through us.” (1981/3644)
Meyer says our journey to freedom will be a lifetime commitment. This book is full of practical strategies and suggestions to get us well along the path.
I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review.
Dnf I got about 100 pages in and just kinda lost interest. Number one, there was a lot of repeating. At first i thought it was just a small error, but then it kept happening. It's almost like she copied and pasted several parts of the book over and over. I'm not sure if it's an accident or not, but either way it takes a lot away from what she's saying. Number two, while i do think the things she has to say are important I couldn't really relate. It seemed like the book is geared more towards people who have extreme phobias or fears that completely disable them, so I think that's why. Despite the fact that she seems to have good things to say, I don't recommend this book due to the repetition.
I've read many of Meyer's books. I've always found them to be timely, insightful, and encouraging. Her latest is no exception.
One of the greatest weapons the Enemy throws our way is fear (and that's been quite obvious in 2020, as I read this book during the Covid-19 pandemic). However, we don't have to allow him to use it to gain control over us, In her latest release, Meyer uses personal experiences (her own and those shared with her) to show how we can use God's Word to combat anything the Enemy tries to send our way.
Meyer helps the reader grab onto courage and face their fears, reminding them they're not doing it alone, as God is with them. Numerous relevant Scripture verses are woven throughout to reinforce her message.
The cover and book jacket are stunning and one of my favorite things about this book!
The book is divided into three parts: Understanding Fear, Confronting Fear, and Mindsets for Walking in Freedom from Fear. Chapters include: Do It Afraid, The Antidote for Fear, Take One Step at a Time, Learn to Be Secure and Confident, You Can Be Yourself, and You Can Believe Good Things Are Ahead.
Some of my favorite quotes include:
- "Fear is the devil's favorite tool in the toolbox of schemes he uses to steal, kill, and destroy God's good plan for us." - "We receive grace through faith, not through fear." - "Faith is our plug in to the power of God." - "When I feel fear, I will do it afraid." - "Do what you can do when you can do it, and don't worry about what you cannot do. Anything is better than nothing!" - "I don't want the bad things in the world to keep me from seeing the good." - "Don't just pray for fear to go away. Instead pray for God to fill you with boldness, courage, and confidence."
Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy from the publisher, but I wasn't required to leave a positive review.
I was required to read this for work....but honestly it was a really good read! She makes some wonderful points about fear and about how scripture says we are to handle fear!
This is a much-needed book for a time such as this. I like how the author describes fear and how it affects everyone. I liked her acronym for FEAR = False Evidence Appearing Real” the author states, “…”it is an accurate definition because fear is rooted in lies…When we believe them, fear takes root in our hearts and minds.”
She goes on to share about a woman who was afraid of everything - she lived an isolated, lonely life. “Basically, she didn’t do anything she wanted to do because she was afraid. As she was telling her woes to a Christian friend, the friend looked at her and simply said, “Why don’t you just do it afraid.”
…”Fear creeps in when we forget that God is with us and begin striving and struggling to do things in our human strength. Remember that God said over and over to many of His servants, “Fear not, for I am with you.” Fear can be and often is very subtle. It may appear in the form of worry, dread, or even jealousy.”
There is a healthy fear that gives us a warning of impending danger and there is the fear that tries to paralyze us. The author says, “Understanding that we can feel fear and move forward anyway has been life-changing for me and many other people.”
I liked that the author included stories from other people (not just hers) and how they learned to recognize unhealthy fear and how to face it. I also liked that they quoted scriptures throughout the book. This author gives readers the tools needed to face fear and how to do things afraid. Most of us have never had to deal with so many fears in our lives, country, and around the world. I highly recommend this book as a reference. This year has given us many opportunities to practice these principles.

Joyce Meyer writes great words of wisdom in the Introduction: “Courage is not the absence of fear; it is moving forward in the presence of fear.” There’s 23 chapters in this book broken down into three parts: Part 1: Understanding Fear; Part 2: Confronting Fear; Part 3: Mindsets For Walking In Freedom From Fear.
Do It Afraid is a really good book. I love Joyce’s style of writing. It’s like she is talking to you personally. This book will benefit all whom read it. I started reading this book last fall but stopped after a few chapters because I was occupied with other things. So glad I got back into this book. It’s filled with godly wisdom regarding fear. God is speaking to me through this book. I will be blessed; I just know it!
The chapter titled: You Can Stop Worrying About Money – Freedom from Financial Fears, took me back to the years when I had fear about not having enough money. Praise the Lord for showing me a long time ago that what is said in Philippians 4:19 is true. He would meet all of my needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.
You Can Believe Good Things Are Ahead – Freedom From Fear Of The Future is another great chapter. Have you ever been afraid of the future? One time I would have said, “Yes” but not anymore. I thank God for writers like Joyce Meyer. God has anointed her to write this book, one that will enable her readers to overcome fear, in all areas of their lives.
This book was loaned to me; so I need to give it back. I plan to get another copy to keep in my Faith Library. It’s a great resource to have on hand. Fear can come upon us when we least expect it. My Bible along with this book will enable me to combat it.
You Can Rest in the Promise of Eternity – Freedom from the Fear of Death was an amazing chapter. It is filled with hope and we can all use a good dose of that.
In her closing comments, Joyce shares encouraging words: “If you need to do something afraid in order to do it, gather all your courage and take a step of faith.” The book ends with: Empowering Scriptures To Help You Fight Fear. God’s Word will do just that.
Joyce Meyer has been instrumental in my spiritual growth. Her books helped me grow in my Christian walk. I recommend this book to anyone with the desire to accomplish great things in their life; knowing they can boldly step out in faith and do it afraid.
There is something very special about Joyce Meyer. Her plain spoken approach lays out for us a simple yet profound truth. In Do It Afraid, we see her attacking an old enemy for us all, fear. Through personal stories as well as a testimonial from various contributors on each chapter, and of course solid biblical teaching, Mrs. Meyer teaches how faith overcomes fear. She approaches a wide variety of things which cause people fear and trepidation and tells us how to overcome it. She divides the book into three sections, Understanding Fear, Confronting Fear and Mindsets for Walking in Freedom from Fear. While asserting (correctly in this writer's opinion) that fear can and should be overcome, she also acknowledges that fear is often present in our lives and that if we wait til we have not fear, we will not accomplish anything, instead we need to step out in faith and do it afraid. If fear of anything is holding you back, or has ever held you back, I highly recommend this book.
This book is for anyone that needs a pick me up and struggles with anxiety/depression. I was not able to finish the whole book b/c it hit too close to home. But, I would say that anyone struggling, would benefit from this helpful book.
Honestly this book took me a while to finish, but it was well worth it. I have learned so much and can truly say I want to live life with no fear and knowing that the Lord is by my side each step of the way.
I really enjoyed this book! I thought it was easy to read and understand and there were a lot of practical applications. Joyce Meyer did a great job explaining the root of fear and giving biblically based ways to fight fear. I annotated and tabbed this book so much! Highly recommend if you struggle with fear and anxiety like I do!
Well Joyce does it again! Real world advice with heavenly goals. I live that she gives the reader actual things they can do to improve their situation, not just "think about" ideas. Packed full of great perspectives. I need to read it again and takes notes.
Fear is the devil's greatest weapon, and he wields it expertly. But we don't have to give him the power to use our fear to rule over us. In "Do It Afraid", Joyce Meyer uses her personal experiences to teach us biblical truth and shows us by example how to do what God wants us to do even through our fear of being wrong, standing out or feeling inadequate.
By following through and doing what needs to be done, we can overcome our fear and conquer satan's hold over our emotions. We all need encouragement to step out of our comfort zones with courage and Meyer offers hers in "Do It Afraid".

when fear Knocks on the door, send Faith to answer do it afraid don't ask god to remove fear ask him for the courage to move forward despite fear fear doesn't exist anywhere except the mind so you spend more time asking God to draw you closer to him and reveal his presence to you then you do asking him to fix her problems. God wants to help us with our troubles, but even more than that he wants us to want him. I say it this way: seek God's presence, not his presents. God says if you seek him, you will find him Apart from God we can do nothing think about what you have been thinking about. happy thoughts make us happy people we will eat the fruit of our words! fear can steal anything from us if we let it no matter what we do, when the newness wears off iit will no longer excite us if we don't know how to switch gears from excitement to commitment, we will bounce around from one thing to another all of our lives and not finish much of anything. of all the liars in the world, sometimes the worst are our own fears the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom great joy resistor fear fear will never lead you to a positive end. go for your faith in what you believe we will face the fear of darkness together thinking often about how much God loves you will help you confront the fears in your life. it is easy to tell others that God loves them, but it gets more difficult when we think about his lovingus. the relationship we have with ourselves is vitally important, we should prioritize making that relationship healthy, because if we don't like who we are and feel guilty most of the time due to our imperfections, it will cause us to never be able to truly enjoy life. she bounced between pride and guilt - pride if she did well and guilt if she didn't. does this sound familiar? God is rich in Mercy we will never be free of anything we keep excusing see yourself as someone who is love unconditionally, valued and precious in God's sight God is not asking us to do things, he is asking us to let him do things through us don't have a grumbling attitude but a thankful one the problem does not determine the quality of your life, your perspective does I still have days when fear tries to stop me. but once I take the first step, it gets much easier - and my world expands just a little bit more the very thought of confronting fear is fearful in life, we either press forward or we drift backward we simply cannot remain static remember, anything you do in obedience to God is something you never have to do alone. you will always be with you, strengthening and encouraging you each step of the way. if you are facing a daunting challenge at this time in your life, fear not, because God is with you God shows up when we take action, not when we do nothing in action breeds doubt and fear. action breeds confidence and courage. if you want to conquer fear, do not sit home and think about it. go out and get busy greatest moment in your life is the present one but your hopes not your hurts shape your future don't miss what God has for you today by living in regret I believe God has given each one of us the ministry of encouragement you can never do the wrong thing when you sincerely encourage other people going to church all day won't make you a strong Christians just as sitting in a garage all day won't make you a car doing nothing produces nothing I'm billboarding my imperfections for any and all oncoming traffic let god into the painful places that need healing most fears of rejection rest on the deserve for approval from other people. don't base yourself esteem on their opinions a man who is intimate with God will never be intimidated by men often, we won't confront people or be honest with them because we see them as having control over our future in some way. if we are people pleasers instead of God pleasers, we will miss the bus and end up settling for what ever people try to give us is God first in your life is he more important to you then getting the thing you are asking him to give you? if you had to give up everything in order to have God in your life, would you do that? men are swayed more by fear than by reverence Aristotle anyone can be forgiven for any sin we want to know the great love of god, but we also need to know the great power of God ask God to bless any investments you may have, to protect your money, to give you good deals and to bless everything you put your hand to resist the temptation to fear lack the way people handle their money says a lot about them hebrews 13:5 place trust in my bank account not in God..↔️ worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow. it empties today of its strength I don't believe God's will is for us to live on barely get by Street may your choices reflect your hopes not your fears "nelson mandela" human nature usually pushes us toward the negative unless we reject it and choose to be positive i am supernaturally unafraid trusting God is easy when we have no problems, but trusting him when we find ourselves struggling is quite different. it is something we must choose to do, perhaps several times a day be willing to go through whatever you need to go through in order to become what you truly want to be or to have what you really want to have. if you need to lose weight you can do it, but you will probably be hungry at least for a while until your stomach shrinks back the normal size our addiction to comfort often keeps us from the freedom and breakthroughs that we need God redeems everything the devil has stolen from us. any kind of fear is bondage, and God wants to set us free from it no amount of doing will make God love you more than he does right now rest is just as important as work how much easier would life be if you never thought about how to get someone back when they have hurt you? it takes courage to grow up and become who you really are
In Do It Afraid, Joyce Meyer explored the topic of fear and how we can choose to live courageously in the presence of fear. She begins the book by sharing how critical it is to realize that each one of has a choice to make. In Deuteronomy 30:19, we learn that we are given to two choices life and death and God instructs us to choose life where our children will live. She also reminded readers how the devil has come to steal, kill, and destroy our lives. Joyce opened up about how she lived with fear growing up and how she was sexually abused by her father. He also spoke many negative words over her life such as how she wouldn’t amount to anything. She shared how her mother when she was in her 70’s, she apologized to her about not dealing with the abuse. She told her how she was afraid and she couldn’t bear the scandal and she wouldn’t be able to provide for her or her brother. She also shared the fear of rejection and how she was insecure because she was overweight when she was a teenager and wasn’t ask out on dates or dances. She also revealed the challenges of being a woman in ministry and how she didn’t have the right personality and how she was judged when she began her ministry. She also shared how she went through a divorce and how she eventually met Dave and how he was the first person who showed her love unconditionally.
Throughout the book, she opened up about how she was able to rise above her fears and rejection. One of the ways, she did rise above was by having right thinking sessions and how she dived into scripture passages about who she was in Christ. She challenged readers to have 5 to 10 minutes think sessions each morning and we need to think about God thinks. Some of these included how are the, “apple of God’s eye, fearfully and wonderfully made, precious in God’s eyes, and given the mind of Christ”. Paul explained how we are supposed to cast down wrong imaginations, theories, and opinions that doesn’t agree with God’s written Word.
I would recommend this life changing book to anyone who is struggling with fear and they need encouragement to overcome their fears and to do it afraid. I immensely appreciated how Joyce Meyer was open in sharing about her abuse from her father and how she learned to handle the fears and the issues that it caused her. I loved the idea of having positive think sessions and to mediate on God’s written Word and to let it change our lives. I also liked how each chapter included a personal story on how they dealt with their own fears and what they learned along the way. Some of these stories included topics of insecurity, fear of being alone, singing through the fear, afraid of the dark, what if, and much more. She also looked at countless Bible characters some of these included, Jacob, Saul, Paul, Joshua, Moses to name just a few and what we can learn about fear and God’s Kingdom from them. Each chapter also included a special quote. I also enjoyed the scriptures she included throughout the book and how she included a special section at the end of the book. I also loved the idea for the cover design and it was in a transparent gray cover and it showcased in the background a beautiful picture of a lion. It gave the appearance of what it would be like to live fearfully. I enjoyed learning about how to do things afraid and not to let fear control my life and this book is one that is meant to be reread and studied.

Do It Afraid Embracing Courage in the Face of Fear by Joyce Meyer FaithWords Christian Pub Date 01 Sep 2020
I am reviewing a copy of Do It Afraid: Embracing Courage in the Face of Fear through FaithWords and Netgalley:
In Do It Afraid, Joyce Meyer reminds us that fear is everywhere and it affects everyone. It has been around since the beginning of time, and it will be here as long as the earth remains. But we are reminded though fear rules many people but it doesn’t need to be that way. We are reminded too that though fear will never disappear from our lives, we can confront it and overcome it. Courage is not the absence of fear; it is moving forward in the presence of fear.
We are reminded too that God has a plan for our life and it is a good one, but Satan has a plan for our lives too and it is not a good one. It is up to us what path we choose, because we were given free will.
Meyer goes on to point out that God never stops loving us and doesn’t even become angry with us because we choose fear, but it does make Him sad because He wants us to live the best life we can live.
It is pointed out too that God expects us to obey Him, not offer excuses for why we didn’t obey Him.
We are reminded too that fear has no real power over us if we understand what it truly is. Meyer goes on to tell explain the only way to live free from fear is to confront it, or “do it afraid.” It is pointed out that We can choose to face fear with faith. We can feel fear and still do it afraid!
It is pointed out that whether we walk in faith or fear is a decision we must make many times throughout our lives. And that we need to develop a habit of looking for God everywhere, and you might be surprised where He will show up.
Do It Afraid reminds us that fear is the number one weapon the devil uses against us. We are reminded too that it is important not to let doubt steal our Faith. We are reminded too that don’t just pray for fear to go away. Instead pray for God to fill you with boldness, courage, and confidence.
If you are looking for a book that will help you to understand and even overcome the Fear, Do it Afraid is a book I would highly recommend it.
Have you ever thought of “doing it afraid?” Can’t say that I have. Here’s to another beautiful masterpiece by Joyce Meyer, giving us the insights to conquer fear.
“Do It Afraid” by Joyce Meyer, explores the popular topic “FEAR”, in the most unusual way. This is one of Joyce Meyer’s most recent published books, which explores Fear and how we it can be dealt with, and not take over our lives.
Joyce Meyer explored ‘Fear’ in three components: Understanding Fear, Confronting Fear and Mindsets For Walking in Freedom From Fear.
This was a great book. Even though Joyce Meyer may have discussed the topic of fear in previous books, this particular one however was just lovely. “Do it Afraid” is an instructional and educational piece and is not for the casual reader. I did not know what to expect when I purchased this copy, but I must say that I am most definitely NOT disappointed. I particularly love the inserts from individuals, who may have experienced their own version of fear and how they handled it.
This is a book that you most definitely need in your library, one that you can reference from time to time. As I have alluded to the various parts of the book, you are taught how to understand fear as it encroaches in our lives; learn how to confront fear, and most importantly how to gravitate to a mindset that allows us to walk in freedom from fear.
I highly recommend this book. The writing was simply practical and as an individual, I could see myself going through each process as I encounter fear.
We all face fears in life - phobias of all types, plus fears about the future, things in our past, relationships, you name it. How do we face those fears? How does one face such fears as a Christian? Joyce Meyer is a long-time leader in the Evangelical community. As with many Evangelical believers, I run into issues with their literal interpretation of Scripture, understanding of heaven/hell, salvation, and the coming Kingdom of God. Quotations from Scripture are plentiful in each chapter. Some are pretty straightforward and applicable, with some others appearing to border on eisegesis. Kind of weird to have numerous translations thrown around, indicating that certain English words were sought to support the perspective of the author. And the use of exclusive language is always a concern.
Having said all these critical comments, the fact remains that there are many gems and very helpful and insightful passages in this book. While I may not agree with Meyer on some theological issues and interpretations, I recognize her a person of deep and true faith in Jesus Christ. She has faced many trials in her life, and is open and honest about sharing those tests. So I appreciate you insight on how her faith gave her hope and strength to face her fears.
Ultimately, it all comes down to trust in the love and promises of God for all God's children. Meyer articulates this clearly and well. Therefore, this book can be a good resource overall for those who seek to face the fears of human life with faith and hope.
This was a buddy read for the Summer. It was an interesting book for sure. I like that Joyce went over the different types of fears that people experience. I really enjoyed the personal testimonies that were shared at the end of each chapter. There were certain parts that were a bit repetitive. Towards the end of the book I switched to the audiobook so I could listen while I worked. I did not know that Joyce Meyer also narrated the audiobook. It was... interesting. I wondered why didn't she hire someone to read the audiobook. She sounded so tired. Her voice sounded hoarse, and gravel-y. It made me wonder if she was or had been a smoker. There was one point where my boyfriend asked me to please turn it off because he couldn't take it anymore. Another thing she mentions this in the book. When she decided to start preaching some of her friends/acquaintances commented that she didn't have the personality/attitude for ministry. I can understand why they would say that listening to her audiobook and reading her book. I have a friend who describes it like, Joyce's style and delivery of messages are similar to sandpaper. Sometimes you need sandpaper to smooth out rough edges but it doesn't feel good on your skin. What she says is good stuff but how she delivers it can come off blunt and aggressive. A kind of pull up your bootstraps and get over it feeling. Overall I enjoyed the book but it isn't a pleasure read, you need to read this when you are in a mindset for self-growth and improvement. Don't focus on the delivery, but more so the message.
I'm not a huge fan of Joyce Meyer's and her particular preaching style. It's always felt a big aggressive to me. I got this from the library and since I've got a goal to read for spiritual books a month and haven't yet in February I figured I should dive into this one. and I actually enjoyed it quite a bit. Joyce shares alot of her own personal story, insecurities and how God is using these things to grow her. It made me realize Joyce's upbringing was so different from my own, and she is reaching those who come from truly broken places. Maybe she seems less friendly than Jennie Allen or Beth Moore, but growing up she wasn't allowed to have friends. There is no doubt that God has used Joyce and her willingness to step into life even when she is afraid. I was so inspired by her story and her willingness to serve God even if she may not be well liked. She isn't here to please me, or anyone else. She is here to serve God and in doing so is making a difference in lives of so many people. If you'd like to be used by God, and allow any fear to take that from you, pick up this book. Joyce Meyer is a powerful voice for leaning into our calling and not letting fear take us away from our destiny.
Overall this book wasn’t life changing for me, but it was still thought provoking and worthwhile.
I really liked the first half of the book, but then I lost my momentum and the second half was more of a challenge to get through. There are some real pearls of wisdom here about overcoming fear, and I also appreciated learning more about the author’s personal life through some of the examples and narration.
Here were some of my notes that I took while reading (of what, for me, were the highlights):
- “No matter what we do, the sense of newnesss and excitement will fade. If we depend on the feeling of excitement instead of a sense of committment to do anuthing, then we will bounce around without finishing anything we set out to do for the rest of our lives.”
- “Learning how much God loves you is the cure for the insecure”
- An interesting interpretation of Eph 3:20– “until we see and understand that God’s power and not our own human strength is at work, we will be limited to doing what we think we are able to do and stop there.”
- “Gods’s rest is not rest from work but rest while we work”
5/5! This book was special to me. I got it before I went to South Africa. I actually bought a physical copy of the book which I never do, but am very happy I did. I want others to read it and will probably read it again one day. This book was exactly what I needed at this time of my life. It even had a lion on the cover. Couldn't have been any more perfect. A sign from God. It took me a while to finish, but I am happy I did. I love how it focuses on trusting God and that you really have nothing to fear. I like how relevant bible versus are included. It shows that fear is a very common emotion and you are not isolated. The first step is to acknowledge your fears and don't disregard, hide, or runaway from them. You need to have trust, faith, and courage. Think positively and you will notice a big difference in your life. Learn from your failures. They are lessons. Its ok to feel fear. Its not ok to let that fear hold you back from doing what you love/want to do. You just do it afraid. Thats exactly what I did and it was so worth it. Hoping to continue to have this mindset in my life.

I liked this book but Joyce Meyer keeps repeating her traumatic experience wherein her father sexually abused her while her mother ignored it. Yes, it is disappointing and sad but it felt like she still thinks the world owes her. I don't know why I think like this. I am a believer of God and whatever happened to her is an act of evil and I am happy that she was found by God's grace and now sharing His words to the world.
This book is appropriate at this time of my life because travelling to work is difficult and daunting at this time due to possibility of Covid-19 interaction while riding in public vehicles. But I also DO IT AFRAID. This is also my first teaching job and everything is daunting I can't even sleep at night. But I just DO IT AFRAID and keeps reiterating this until it no longer makes me jittery.
Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow. It empties today of it strength.
I can't say anything because this book must be read as a whole. All I can say is that I thank God for having this book stumble in my life. Thank you, Joyce Meyer.
