Honestly, this is my third Brent Reilly book, and I was prepared to do something I have never done: DNF this book, because it is almost exactly like the previous two that I read which were war epics. This is supposed to be about a single character, at least that's what the blurb communicates. I was so frustrated because Reilly writes that all diseases and cancers have been cured. And then, he proceeds to list two whole pages of diseases that have been cured. But wait, didn't you already state that ALL diseases have been cured. Why must you bog me down in the minutia of lists? He does this repeatedly and it drove me nuts.

He fully goes through 200 pages of world-building before he gets to the main story about Raptor Ray. I had stupidly grabbed all of Reilly's free books hoping to find a new writer to follow. I read three books and they really revolve around similar themes of war and nation-building. I hate to give up on the guy, but seriously even he knew that the book ran overlong, because there is an apologetic final chapter that I have mixed feelings about.

On the one hand, if you know that you ran overlong, then why didn't you edit it better? And on the other hand, you apologized, and I should give you another chance. That final chapter is why I give you two stars instead of one. Brent, you're the writer and I'm a nobody, but you have to get yourself an editor that's going to be honest with you. The execution here is piss poor. My two cents.

“Your son has a tail. And claws.” “At least he doesn’t have feathers.”

Florida author Brent Reilly bounces onto the sci-fi fantasy scene with five books to his credit already. Brent is a multi-talented movie star handsome young man whose father was a magazine editor so he comes by his talent honestly. But Brent lived in Colombia for a time, is bi-lingual Spanish, has a Masters degree in counseling, is a husband and father and has owned an indoor bounce house, auto repair center, and computer training school. His creative goal: to entertain with his wildly imaginative novels whose characters are like real people, with backgrounds and motives, who must act consistently with their personalities. From his provided bio as well as from the manner in which he writes, the reader can sense that this is a talent worth following!

Few authors can introduce their title character with the energy pizzazz, and awe as Brent introduces the beginning of Raptor Ray – ‘The year 2025 She woke screaming. Dr. Ramundo Ramirez looked down at his beautiful bride, his face a river of tears. Despite her unusual size, it seemed unlikely she’d survive the birth. He was surprised she had not burst yet. She certainly could not afford to get any bigger, but still she wanted to wait. "The baby will die without more time," she'd say. Which was true. He wanted to induce labor at six months, when she only looked nine months pregnant, but she valued the baby's life over her own. Recently he wondered if this pregnancy was just a painful way to commit suicide. "He’ll be unique," she'd boast proudly. "The first of his kind." Also true. And hard to explain. If the creature survived. In the sonograms, the baby looked like that monster from the movie Alien. Ramirez suspected she was suicidal after she lost her husband and three children a few years ago. He himself lost his wife and baby two years ago, in a car accident, so their mutual grief bonded them. He had only accepted a research job in the Pacific to get away from everything that reminded him of his lost loved ones. He assumed he’d never love again, much less that someone out of his league would love him back. Their relationship blossomed so effortlessly that he wondered how he won the lottery. As one of the world's first designer babies, his wife looked like she belonged on a runway. A brilliant geneticist, she failed three times to impregnate herself with a dino hybrid, and seduced Ramirez the moment he found the solution. She had her claws in him ever since. But only recently did he realize she was more interested in having a child than raising one. He just lost a wife and baby. Now it looked like he’d lose another. He gave her a sedative just as Dr. Marcos arrived. “Ray, she needs a proper hospital, not a medical research facility.” Although licensed to practice, they only did research since co-founding the genetics center twenty years ago…’ and so on.

Brent stirs his potion with science, genetics, paleontology, making believable people capable of strange things while introducing his Dino boy an das Brent adds, the cast includes ‘dinosaurs, aliens, pirates, minions, asteroid impacts, nuclear war, hypno-orgasms, immortality insurance, lobotomized newborns, drug lords, sex-bots, space-bergs, mad scientists, economical genocide, optimized humans, zombie babies, tragedy, triumph, treachery, a trillionaire, a giant alien android, and a bold plan to maximize the habitability of the solar system.’

From beginning to end this is a unique story (for adults only) that speeds us through a fantasy and a flood of entertainment. Brent Reilly is making his mark – solidly!

Raptor Ray by Brent Reilly is a book that's slightly hard to be categorised. The overall genre is Sci-fi but then there's many other sub-genres running through out. First off it most certainly isn't for children even though the cover may lead you to think it is and how other books of his are.

Basically it's a fun adventure featuring a boy that has dino-dna running through his veins, dinosaurs, aliens, pirates, mad scientists, drug lords, tragedies and much more. Really if you think of something then, it's possible it's been interweaved into this weird book. The author grabs the reader's attention from the first page, making you want to read to the very end, even if at points you haven't got the foggiest idea what on earth is actually going on. The book's set in 2025 where travel is a lot quicker than the present day, the world also has a new experience to end one's life called Deathfall where you sign up online to leap to their deaths.

All in all I honestly don't quite understand what this book was actually getting at. If you feel like me, I guess we need to reread until the plot makes sense. Cleverly written with quite a few quirks! Game of Thrones fans would enjoy this!

Oh my Gods that was something else! This book is not meant to be taken seriously The books are so well-written and thought out. As well as dam near impossible to put down. And really interesting.
This is the fictional story. And makes e think of Quentin Tarantino style. It has vulgarity and violence of his caliber. The storyline has just about everything sci-fi to it, which makes it quite fun to read. There are also many strong elements to this storyline. I really enjoyed the humor hidden within even the childish humor or what some would call potty humor. Overall, I found the book to be entertaining and even got another book to read by this author. If you’re into sci-fi or fantasy, then have a look at this book. You will get what you came looking for and then some.
Now before I ruin this for you I will leave off here. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did. If you do like this book, please consider leaving a review. The Authors really like it when you do; they value your opinions too.

General Jackson was a master at manipulating whole countries to force their political leaders to turn control over to him. He made it a win-win situation. He would provide security, cheap housing, jobs, and protection if they signed over their land to him. It all seems like a dream at first; he possessed a Midas touch in stocks and was therefore quite wealthy. Jackson usually knew ahead of time if a country was going to face a financial crisis, because he caused a few, and placed his stocks accordingly to make the most amount of money. Then there was the optimized genetic grandchildren he was producing as soldiers. He doesn’t realize how important it was when he rescued his grandson Raptor Ray.

I found the whole optimized children interesting. This book definitely isn’t for children, but I am looking forward to the next book to find out how Raptor Ray develops as a warrior and the continuation of Dino Island.

I don’t know if I have mentioned this before, but one of the things I like about this author, Brent Reilly is how at the beginning of every description he points out what audience can and cannot read his book, it’s a little detail but I’m glad to see such touches in works like this one, to prevent any curious young mind to read what he or she is not supposed to read, yet.
Raptor Ray, a tale of sci-fi, Brent have caught my attention recently with a few of his books, they were all over the place, and this one is no exception but he manages to be entertaining all along, seriously, I don’t like or find this genre all that interesting and even he manages to change my opinion, the story, the protagonist, the pace, everything is so over the top, and despite that, there isn’t any kind of filler or bland moments, everything counts and matters in this story, so read this and have a blast just like I did.

Raptor Ray is an interesting story that combines many elements. It sort of appeared as though the author wrote about every strange creature they could think of. Which I think to a point, is interesting, but I found it a bit overdone.

I found the story a bit overwhelming with all of the elements. It made it a bit difficult to track and understand exactly what was going on. Like there is so much backstory I wish was there to maybe help explain it all. For example, Star Wars has a ton of creatures and characters, but not all are written about or focused on. It is a bit different with this story, there was unnecessary detail included and more of a focus could helped.

Having said all that if you are looking for a book completely unique and like nothing you have ever read before, this one is for you. It combines elements of sci-fi, fantasy, alien, adventure, and frankly any other ‘out-there’ genre you can think of.

When I read the description of this novel, I knew the book was going to be for me. The author writes with such confidence that it is hard not to hang on his every word, even if his words do go way out there in left field at times. The storyline has just about every sci-fi element in, which makes it quite unique. At times, I was a little confused by where the author was going, but there are also many strong elements to this storyline. I really enjoyed the humor hidden within each page and the hints at politics that occur here and there. Overall, I found the book to be entertaining and would gladly read other books by this author. If you’re into sci-fi or fantasy, then have a look at this book. You will get what you came looking for and then some. However, I think people that aren’t quite into the genre might not find a lot appealing about this novel.

Raptor Ray is a unique story like it's unique hero. The plot is a mix of science fiction and military strategy and like earlier Reilly's books has a child as the protagonist. Ray is a genetically modified child who has the genes of both human and dinosaur. Hence he looks like a green lizard with a human intellect. He has claws in place of fingers and toes and a tail. Ray loses his mother on birth while his father feels disgusted by his appearance. However he is a scared child that finds protection in his grandmother's arms. The lady makes her mission to protect this special boy amongst several enemies. But fate has its own planning where Ray is betrayed in the hands of his close ones but also finds happiness and peace at unexpected places. The book is very interesting although it is filled with adult stuff and is definitely not for children.

There is a lot going on in Raptor Ray by Brent Reilly, so much so, that at times it gets confusing. The year is 2025 and the world and universe is wildly different. From the unbelievable first few pages, where Ray is being born, an altogether terrifying experience for everyone, until the final pages, this is a highly unique and formidable read. Different elements like science fiction, fantasy, politics, and dinosaurs, all combine to create a very offbeat book. Sometimes there is so much going on, that it is tough to keep track of the plot. With things like DeathFall, where you can sign up to jump to your death, optimized genetics, and lizard-like humans, this book will stretch and challenge your imagination. Hard to categorize, but interesting nonetheless, this is an intriguing book that is a far cry from most science fiction books available today.

There’s one thing that Brent Reilly does well: he expands the sci-fi universe while gaining strength from books that all of us know and love. With Raptor Ray, the author builds an intricate and complex magical universe so filled with weird characters, sci-fi details, and action that it gets a bit difficult to keep track of everything and not getting lost or confused.
Somehow, the author manages to create a plotline from all of what he has in his mind and make it work. There are some good elements here: the adventure is packed with action, there are a lot of details described that help to make the world get real in front of our eyes and the characters are quirky, funny and interesting.
I was a bit skeptical at first. The first chapter seemed a bit odd and with too much information but the story quickly grew on me and I was hooked.

Raptor Ray is a book by author Brent Reilly that tells the tale of a boy who has a very unique DNA. In this DNA is a mixture of many different types of people and creatures, like dinosaurs, mad scientists, pirates and zombie babies. He also has some strange mixture of characteristics in it like tragedy and triumph which add to his uniqueness. You’ll be taken on his journey as he meets certain people and tries to outsmart and survive different situations.
Reilly writes this science fiction novel with great twists and characters. It does contain language and suggestive situations so if this makes you a little uncomfortable this probably isn’t the right book for you. The novel also runs at 319 pages so it might be a little long for some. However, if you’re a fan of the science fiction genre or want an action-packed book to try out, definitely consider this one.

If you want a wild sci-fi ride this is it. Looking at the cover, I want sure what I had gotten myself in to, BUT the writing was actually pretty good, and the story is written in an entertaining and thought-provoking way that makes the reader want to keep turning those pages. With that being said, Reilly has covered every aspect ever imagined in the realm of sci-fi and it is in this book. Some parts are excellent, and I loved the story and where it was going, but following that would be some crazy and unexpected aspect of the sci-fi world. It is a LOT of crazy, but I was still impressed. Fast forward to 2025 and experience the new world of time travel, technology, and new creatures, including the dino-boy. Sci-fi lovers can expect it all in this book!

Readers I mean this in a good way - This book by Brent Reilly has to be one the most crazy wild and entertaining books I have read in a long time. The ideas presented are simply ludicrous, or are they? And, OMG, the amount of time that the author must have been spent learning the history of each and every one of these places had to be tremendous, and to the reader, very very educational. Scratch that, I forgot we live in the world of the internet and wikipedia, NOT. There were so many characters, at times it was difficult to keep up with them all, especially as they seemed to always be a relation of some kind or other. Definitely adding Raptor Ray 2 to my TBR pile. This is a voluntary review of an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from Hidden Gems Books.

A lot going on in the world of sci-fi

This is a story about a futuristic sci-fi world that has combined dna to make a variety of new and scary creations. The story is set at a good pace and has a lot going on. I found the characters to be developed and the variety of events some times distracts from the main ideas of the story but the intrigue draws you back to the journey and keeps you following the inevitable ending of this quick paced adventure. If your genre is sci-fi or fantasy this is a good read for you. Although this is not my usual genre I did enjoy the authors journey and descriptive sense made me feel like I was a part of the story.

“Life is precious, but lives are cheap. Not every life is precious and not every death a tragedy.”
Strange book- seems like children book, but the content does not really says that. It’s a sci-fi fiction, creative, written in future time and has many elements to it from war, genetics, action, adventure, humor, global warming, aliens, replies, mutation. I guess you get the idea- Too many elements combined make it a bit confusing, at times unbelievable and overloaded. It’s interesting at times and maintains a good pace throughout.

Intro book, long slog to get thru but promises more fun in sequel

Since I got the whole collection for free I trudged through this set up book to better understand the rest. This does give much in the way of an idea on how this current world is messed up and ways to fix it but also presents some ummm moments that might scare you. Pirates, utopia, optimized humans, Raptor Ray, violence, sex, drugs, the human condition and promises of aliens. Very in-depth study of humanism, science and physiological questions
