Greta Cencetti is an Italian artist, book illustrator and children's author. Many of her books have a musical theme, reflecting her deep love for music. She has exhibited her work in galleries in Italy, Germany, Great Britain and China.

This is a biography of the great Russian composer written for younger readers. The basic facts are there. (It was a bit surprising that the author chose not to mention that Tchaikovsky's patroness Nadezhda von Meck stipulated that the two of them were never to meet in person; I believe this is a detail that would be interesting to the reader.) The art work is lovely and sensitive and quite wonderful, worth the price of admission alone.

I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to develop a love for music beyond just listening. It can be fascinating to hear about the real people who composed the work, as well as learn facts about them that you might not have known otherwise. For example, I never knew that Tchaikovsky left Russia for a bit, but he did! If you want to learn more about Tchaikovsky, or help your young child develop a love for composers and music in general, then I would recommend checking out this book.
