The Westward Home and Heart Mail-Order Bridge series will be individual stories, that each read well as stand-alone by various authors. The stories are clean, mail-order bride stories. They revolve around Mrs. Mildred ‘Milly’ Crenshaw of Boston, Massachusetts, and her business, Westward Home and Hearts Matrimonial Agency. Each story in the series will read as a stand-alone.
The story begins in Winslow, Wyoming in the 1870s when Meredith ‘Merry’ Ferguson gets the shock of her life to learn her mother is marrying a man ten years her junior, who has a bad reputation. As if that isn’t bad enough, she learns she is also being displaced in their home that she helped pay for to the stable room. In town, she overhears distressing conversations and then is sneered at by citizens of the town. Blanche from the diner warns Merry she needs to leave town before her own reputation is tarnished beyond repair, and even helps her with money to go.
The story will have Merry taking the first stage out of town and at one of the stops she will meet Maryanne Baker in the town of Raeburn at the diner where they share a table. Maryanne is upset, she has agreed to be a mail-order bride to Nathanial ‘Nate’ Quinn of Laramine after being told her fiancé, Brian, had died at the logging camps. Only now, Brian has contacted her and is alive and coming back for her. Merry tells her about her new stepfather and her fears of him. Maryanne thinks since she and Merry look so much alike, that maybe Merry could go marry Nate in her place—it would keep her safe and get her away from Zeke.
It won’t be long before word of danger surrounding Zeke finds its way to Merry. What a shock to see him in Raeburn—apparently searching for her. With the help of Maryanne, she will take the ticket to Laramie and agree to become the mail-order bride to Nate. From the time they met, they each seemed happy with each other. But what happens when the truth is revealed? Words of anger and threats will send her away from him, but what awaits her is deadly.
The story has a fun cast of characters but also has the good, the bad, and the evil of people. Some people enter your life and may seem strange, like Aggie, but they turn out to be a lifesaving blessing. The story is a prime example of words in anger hurting another. Nate needed a wife because of his land grant and wanted to appear stable when the land agent arrived. Merry turns his house into a home, helps with some of the chores, and provides wonderful meals. Before she can tell him everything, when making her confession, he calls her a liar and demands she leave. It won’t take long for him to regret his hateful words and actions, that send Merry away. Has he lost more than a wife and a future? Will Nate and Merry have a second chance to make amends?
This is Merry and Nate's story and is filled with action and adventure, including murder, criminal activity, kidnapping, dishonesty and deception. The character development is excellent and includes good friends, dishonest folks, a mother who has "flipped out" and Aggie, a part Indian woman, who rescues and nurses Merry. As Merry flees for her life she meets a young woman who is traveling on her way to become Nate's mail order bride but due to circumstances in her life no longer wishes to become his bride so convinces Merry to take her place. Merry and Nate had lots of work and a long path to reach a HEA. I really enjoyed this story and highly recommend it. Make yourself comfortable and plan on finishing once you start reading as it is a real page turner.
Merry had boarded a train leaving her home town. Her mother was marrying Zeke, and Merry was afraid everyone would think she would be like her mother. She met a young lady at one of the stops. Maryanne wanted to marry her long time sweetheart, but had promised herself to a mail order groom. They traded places, as Merry needed a new life also. It really gets interesting with the more you read. Enjoy.
Merry is desperate, she needs to leave her hometown after her mother married a despicable violence man. When she meets a mail order bride she gets the chance to take the place of her. But what will Nate do when he discovers that she wasn’t honest? I really enjoyed this story it contains some violence but it results in a HEA.
What were you thinking?? This was the absolute worst male love interest I've ever read and I've read some horrible books!! He had never even met this original bride and only shared 3'short letters! Poorly written, weak plot and pathetic hero right to the end! I barely finished it
This is the first book I have read by this author. She grabbed my attention quickly and I had trouble putting the book down. It demonstrates the kindness one person can show for another as well as the evil that lives in some people's hearts. Read this to see how good ultimately overcomes evil
I loved this book but I really felt hurt the way her husband talked to her and sent her away. She should have told him right away but it was thrust upon her Love is kind love is not puffed up love bears all things and believe all things and bears all things. I think they loved each other but the wrong done to each was unbearable.
A lot of this story felt like I'd read it before, but I guess when you read as much as I do it's bound to happen sometimes! I did enjoy the story, overall. So hard to imagine her mother so deceived, but that too happens more than we can understand! But I think Margaret portrays Aggie's Native American heritage in a very negative light.
Merry's Mission Westward Home and Hearts Mail Order Brides By Margaret Tanner , V. McKevitt
I am really enjoying this series it shows the Compassion of Jesus Christ learning forgiveness and too forgive there selves . Showing compassion for other people in need . I recommend teens and up .
From heartbreaking to loving! Such tragedy and sadness! Love finds strength to outshine any obstacle! A mother protective nature is enduring and inspiring to all! This story is full of faith, adventure, tragedy, heartbreak, lose, romance and true love! Love this series!
I always enjoy books by Margaret Tanner. I find she has interesting characters, a different twist on a common genre, humor, romance and a few surprises along the way. I’m always caught by surprise when the man (Nate, in this case) reacts badly to finding out his mail order bride isn’t who he was expecting. Since he normally has very little knowledge about his bride, why does he react so? And men think women are mysterious! I enjoyed this book and look forward to her next one.
This is another sweet, clean romance from Margaret Tanner one of my favorite authors. The cover is beautiful. The story inside does not disappoint. A beautiful hard working young lady finds herself not understanding her mother's decisions and at risk for her own life. I won't tell how it ends other than it is a good story.
This is an exciting, adventurous, sweet love story written by Margaret Tanner. She has chosen the plot and her characters well. You will enjoy reading how Nate and Merry discover their happily ever after.
I cant even imagine what women went through just to survive. It really blows my mind that there was a thing as a mail order bride. But the deperation pain, and fear thoae women endured. These stories only give usa glimpse of some of what it was like for them.
I really enjoyed this sweet, clean historical book. The characters were likable and the storyline drew me in from the beginning. If you like historical romance, I think you will enjoy this book as much as I did.
This is such a very nice read by V. McKevitt, Margaret Tanner. A mail order bride she was not in away, she switched places with the real mail order bride. She just needed to hide and she did for awhile. This is a very enjoyable book to read.
This is a heartwarming story well told of Marianne, Merry and Nate. My favorite character is Aggie. Every couple needs a guardian angel to set them straight.
This book is real and gritty. Merry is such a sweet lady and a chance of fate brings her to marry a man she can love. Deception, evil and fear lead to an amazing story.
Really enjoyed reading this story immensely. Strong characters with life issues that were interesting, suspenseful, and filled with compassion and passion.
