“Heavy lies the crown.”
“Some people just bring out better parts of us than who we are most days.”
This series has everything I love: complex characters with realistic motivations, heart-stopping action and suspense, and insights into the human heart. A great suspenseful read with high speed, action filled and a page-turning plot. An epic tale of human fortitude. When the worst happens, some give up, some prey on the weak and then some stand up and become more. The storyline has become more complicated and exciting, with unexpected twists, that made me want to read faster and slower at the same time because I didn’t want it to end. The series will stay with you beyond the last page! The end just blew my mind! Impatient to read Wolves #8!!

Rivals: A Near Future Thriller (Forsaken Mercenary Book 7) - a review by Rosemary Kenny

*slight spoilers*
Rivals is the amazing 7th adventure in the Forsaken Mercenary series, by the incredible future-world visionary Jonathan Yanez and it's even more stunning than in previous FM books starring the eponymous Mercenary, Daniel Hunt. He's a physically weaponized, rapid-healing mercenary, who fights against the evil Voy and other enemies of Earth with his W.O.L.F Team, (a newly-formed fighting force, assembled from the former Immortal Corp's Pack Protocol members) determined to always do the right thing, by defending humanity.
From the Swamp Lands, the Team must go in search of another Relic, hidden in what used to be the Amazon Rainforest on Earth and prevent it giving their enemies,(especially Rival Mercer, Daniel's particular foe) immortality. Once at the location things go swiftly downhill, as Daniel and Mercer fight for survival, determined to kill each other and claim possession of the Chalice - but for polar opposite reasons. Despite the latter's ability to jam the Team's comms and (even control 'X',Daniel's AI neural implant remotely),to incapacitate Daniel with unbearable pain, the mission must continue at all cost.

Who is Victoria Cripps and what does she tell Daniel about the guardians of the Relic? How does the battle between Daniel and Mercer end?
Why does Daniel have to trust and work with an enemy? What happens in the depths of the pyramid? Who is Eric and what is his position?

The answers to these questions and much more, are revealed in this outstanding new sci-fi fantasy, that even has hints of Star Wars, Lord of the Rings and Indiana Jones and intense action scenes, that will keep you on the edge of your seat long into the night - it's that unputdownable!.
Don't wait to grab your copy as soon as it hits the bookstores - I can guarantee Rivals by Jonathan Yanez is a 5-star winner, that you certainly won't want to miss!

I read book one of this series a while ago but life got in the way of carrying on the series. Since the lock down here in the UK my reading has got back on track and, after an e-mail reminder from the author saying book one was available free to his readers I rediscovered the series. The way the plaot line is playing out is excellent - sometimes predictable, more often less so and it keeps the reader hooked. No sooner did I finish book one that I downloaded book 2 and so on to this one book 7 (in point of fact I have actually just finished book 8 and am awaiting the release of book 9 at the end of April 2020).
I love the way the story flows and yet changes between the books as if you are reading one continuous story rather than separate books - in many ways I am reminded of Lord of the Rings. In these books the bad guys are truly bad and not always at first who and where you think they are whilst the good guys are good but not averse to using the odd dirty trick. :)
I would highly recommend them to any one who enjoys sci-fi - to say more would be to add spoilers and I won't do that. Start with book 1 and get yourselves hooked as I was.

I think I held my breath the last few pages!

The search for the relic, the chalice leads to a whole outta crazy. From the GG prison, Rival, his being taken out ( reminded me of Riddick chained in the prison ship) the swamp, the poor crazed scientist drinking swamp "shine" , the sentient crocodile mutant men, dragon...another meet up with his nemesis and the tag tag gang, well....Earth is a tad bit different than it is now. Then they are less to an Island,a full, lush, tropical rainforest, island, oh and there's a pyramid, who knew? And some ancient knights for good measure. The ending....nope...to be continued...Aaarrrgggg!

Daniel and the pack are back and they are still hunting and being hunted. This book has so much action and suspense you won’t be able to put it down. This author knows the pack and what they like and inches them along book by book. The author gets you hooked and the narrator has you there with the team, the author and narrator are a great team. The pack is awesome, send me.

What!?!? An ending.

No spoilers will I tell but I must say that was an exciting ending. Makes me wonder what can happen next to this wonderful, unlucky hero.

fast and fun

A great story that keeps moving with clever writing in between. You won’t be disappointed although I do wish it was on audible like the previous books were.

Oops! He did it again!

Jonathan Yanez keeps raising the stakes with each book! What exactly is the Gate? Why must it never be opened? Find out in Rivals!

The team takes a big hit.

Had to happen sooner or later. I wasn't expecting it to be someone so important. Another relic needs to be found and in searching, Daniel finds so much more!

Someone new to the team needs a nap, anger management and a lesson in what NOT to call humans. 😏 Although, in a pinch she is there to save the Pack members.

This could not have been any better! Well, it could have been longer but hey! I can look forward to the next book "Wolves" for the story to continue. And the next cliffhanger that keeps me on the edge of my seat! Nice Jonathan, very nice!
