The Willow-Bender

Rate this book
A simple, rhythmic story of an unseasonal storm in Colorado which shows the emotional patterns of those caught in its tension. Goldpan is torn apart by the Shellaby Dredge and Mining Company in its efforts to dig the gold surface miners have been working on for years and as one section fails the company moves on to another, where Andy Towner and his young wife, Reenie, live. Andy, deeply rooted in family pride and lore, refuses to sell, and in defying the company, adds to their problems.

It is really about Summit County, Colorado, written by the Summit County native Helen Rich. I loved it. As a native of Summit County as well, it spoke to me and helped me imagine the history of my county in a more personal way than reading a history book.
