The year 1816 experienced the sudden downfall of temperatures. Kolkata had frozen to its lowest of -15 degree celsius. Widespread diseases were common. Sharat was no exception as he was forced to quit his Zamindar lifestyle after his parents died. On the other hand, in 2018, there was Niharika, living in the best of times - in reasonably modern society. She loved her life - her group of friends, her family and everything around her. Little did they know that something awaited them far away in a deserted civilisation 6 billion years into the future; in the planet Nocturne which was ravaged by compounds of a rare element called Barrenium. A Year Without Summer is a tale on how lives can intertwine with no restrictions in space-time and dimensions.
A story which is not to be judged with its title , yes the story a year without summer .I was expecting that the story would be waived around something like summer of might be related to it but the story plot is completely different . It takes reader away from the basic surrounding to the scientific approach , with the character and plot of different screen well described in a very brief and exciting manner . The story revolves around two main character . But I like the introduction part the most although the story is bit lengthy to read ,it requires time and sitting for hours , but above all I like to go through it as it creates interests by joining the mission pieces.. The parts include in the story goes like Introduction Which hold journey of barren land to doing jailbreak , which creates excitement to read how he does . But not forgetting the new universe ! As the story moves on , the struggle is told with ups and downs , the effort which are putten in and the busy day which one could face .
The description of fields in the night sky with the plants reflection make a proper sense of visual effects for the readers .
The year of 1816 and 2018. Both has something to do , you need to read that and find out . Mystery that gradually open up as you moves deep into the story . The in known planet and the civilization what not ,all together make it a different story . With the voice coming in the head and making you think again and again what is happening to you is quite interesting . The shower and car drive is most exciting part . Slowly and gradually it comes to end , a bit tought task to make it end but it was , with the pressing of button and reaching destination . The story ends with a happy plot .
Division of story is perfect with five. Section and each section well divided into parts and subparts with the heading making the reader able to guess what it would be all around .I like the book . Overall I would say it is good to read if you are science friction lover .
A Year Without Summer By Shreyan Laha Publisher : Bigfoot Publication Genre : Science Fiction Book Firstly, cover of book unique. And coming on text - Book is divided into five parts. And sub-parted into forty-six chapters. It deals with both history and an imagined future. It pertains to the period between 1810 and 1820, as well as wonders in this vast universe. Story is about our protagonists Sharat and Niharika both are protrait from different time frame. It starts with year 1816 when it experienced sudden downfall of temperatures and Kolkata had frozen to its lowest -15 degree Celsius. Diseases were common. Sharat was living with his parents. After his parents died Sharat was forced to quit his Zamidar lifestyle. And on other side Niharika, was living in a modern society. She loved her family and friends. There was another important character Agast who has a significant role in adding importance as he was the one walked with Sharat through the city of new barren land. The book is a great source of knowledge and insipration as it is written in a perfect blend of thoughts comprising of sci - fiction which is a challenging to blend the literature with Sci-Fiction.
No one can say he/she is completely independent, we all are very well aware that out lives are interdependent on each other and also with every component of ecosystem along with ecosystem itself. But ever wondered how we are connected in different timelines, universes and surroundings; and what would happen if suddenly the environment starts acting weird and doesn't follow the script of nature. The adventure that follows, the mysteries that unfold and struggle to survive is one heck of a read that book lovers yearn for. The effortless transition between past and future, the romance of 2 very unique & opposite personalities, the contract of modern vintage along with the hint of science fiction was mind boggling for sure.
Diving into this huge books divided into 5 parts and with well built characters and story line was a pleasure to read. The connection that author has articulated with his lucid language and vivid imagination is definitely impressive. Its undoubtedly a task to plot a story that may not be historically accurate but can bring a tale which pertains to the period. The angle of sci-fi that was tossed in the already spicy mingle of history & an imagined future came out amazingly well. Only complain is about the title & cover which isn't too eye-catching for me hence couldn't do justice to this majestic story.
How 1816 & 2018 meet and how their story unfolds is a buffet of information and adventure that every science fiction lover should taste. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, though it was quite lengthy.
The story is about a parallel universe where Niharika, Sharat and Baban get stuck. Sharat belongs to the year 1816 while Niharika to the year 2018. Their life got entangled as they found each other on an unknown planet probably, known as ‘New Barren Lands’. The book is divided into five interesting parts which includes some really great facts. The story is undoubtedly phenomenal. The scientific concepts and workings are explained with particularity. This is a medium paced book, with a unique story, coupled with easy language. The plot of the book has switched throughout the book, never really putting the reader in a confused situation of what’s happening. However, the narrative style is not so powerful, rather I felt it was insipid. Because of this, it was difficult for me to concentrate. Also, grammatical errors, broke my flow many times while reading. The thought of putting an alternative universe story is so exclusive. I think that this book is suitable more for science-fiction lovers.
#qotd Do you like to read thick, detailed books or short ones❓ #qotd Does reading Sci-fi excite you❓
The 3 most important elements of a sci-fi are; ➡️ speculation about humanity's future, ➡️ the impact of science & technology on people & ➡️ setting is in an alternate time & space.
Sci-Fi means whose content is imaginative but based on science. It relies heavily on scientific facts, theories & principles as support for it's setting- characters, themes, & plot- lines, which is what makes it different from fantasy.
👌 And this book #ayearwithoutsummer is a perfect Sci-Fi read!
👍 It has all the elements & does complete justice to the genre.
👍 The Cover is pretty catchy & the colour blue being a cool colour very well explains the Title, a year without summer..
👍 The research, the detailing, the plot/story line, narration is On-Point.
👎 I wish the editing was a bit better, it would have made it a perfect Sci-Fi read!
👌 The story encompasses time travel, teleportation, telekinesis, extra terrestrial lifeforms, space travel & exploration, parallel universe, fictional worlds and much more..!!
Published in Jan.2020 by Bigfoot Publications, this 348 page MIND-BOGGLING read is available for INR 285/- @amazondotin & for INR 149/- @amazonkindle
✍️ The author has half a dozen published short stories, a book NOT WORTH LIVING FOR under his name. He likes writing acrostic poems.
👍 There are separate pages for Translation & References.
👍 It is a thick book & deals with both history & an imagined future.
👍 The story keeps on shifting timelines & ends on a cliffhanger.
👌 It looks like a Sci-Fi movie!
👌There is an element of fantasy which is kind of of amusing but it is brilliant piece of, awe-inspiring work.
‘A Year Without Summer’ by Shreyan Laha is a story that is set in the year 1816 when the temperature suddenly falls down tremendously which results in widespread disease in Kolkata. Our protagonist Sharat is also affected by this whose parents too get infected by the disease. On the other hand we have Niharika who lives with all the modern amenities. Both had no idea what life had planned for them when all of a sudden they are left on an unknown planet with no knowledge of where they are and what lies ahead of them. To known more read A Year without Summer.
My Thoughts:
The plot is very unique and will engage the readers till the end. The author has done detailed research while writing the plot which can be seen while reading the story.
The world of ‘Nocturne’ is created beautifully and in detail description of the planet adds to the story. The author has gone ahead and given us details about the working of the planet. The landscape of the planet is all given in detail in the chapter ‘Exploring the New Universe – New Barren Lands (Unknown)’.
The characters are well-developed. There were too many characters in the book which can be confusing for some but overall they were well developed and each of them had their own plus points and negative points.
The language is simple and lucid and the readers will go through the book easily.
The book cover is mysterious and suits the plot of the story. It will surely create an interest in the mind of the readers as to what the book is all about. The title of the book was a bit confusing but as the readers get into the story the book title also makes sense.
Overall, I liked the book and would surely recommend it to all the sci-fi lovers.
It’s a huge book so it took me a while to finish it. I am confused where to start reviews and to categorise book in which genre as such it’s difficult to interpret. The book has been divided into five parts. There are number of characters but Sharat and Niharika mostly leads the story. The chapters moves consecutively in year 2017-18 and year 1816 and there is an alternate dimension also. I liked the barren land description and imagination. That part fascinated me the most. There is another character that I liked is Agnimukh. In year 1816, there is sudden downfall in the temperature. Kolkata had frozen and there is widespread disease. And simultaneously story runs around year 2018. There is mention of galaxies and stars and their distance also so it’s like it has sci fi touch. I liked the imagination of space, time and dimensions. It’s the unique most plot. The author has amazing and detailed imagination but to put too much into writing, at few points the narration style have been clumsy. It took me time to enter into the story. The language of the book is lucid. Overall it’s a unique concept and I enjoyed reading it.
The cover of the book is quite beautiful so is the title, the author has selected this catchy title making the readers more curious about the story. Imagine a year without a summer that's quite scary as each climate is needed for survival. The story takes you in a different dimension where the time frame is totally different and the unknown planet has no Summer season. Sharat was forced to quit his Zamindar lifestyle after his parents died, whereas Niharika living in a modern society is quite happy with her family and friends. Little did they know that something is awaiting for them far away in a deserted civilization 6 billion years in the future. To know what happens next do read the book.
Overall loved the book it is divided in 5 parts with each part interesting than the previous. The characters are quite interesting so is their story line. The story transit between 1816 and 2017-18 making it more interesting and curious to read. The book has various sci-fi concept making it more awesome. Would highly recommend to those who love this genre.
Title: A year Without Summer Author: Shreyan Laha Genre: sci-fi
Review
A year without Summer is a tale on how lives can intertwine with no restrictions in space, time and Dimensions.
Blurb
The year 1816 experienced sudden downfall of temperatures. Kolkata had frozen to its lowest of -15 degree celsius. Widespread disease were common. Sharat the main protagonist was no exception as he was forced to quit his Zamindar lifestyle after his parents on the other hand there was Niharika who lived her life blissfully she loved her life.
Narration: The incidents have been narrated aptly. The thrill that one feels is an amazing in itself. The novel makes one feel enthralled and excited.
Characters: The characterization, i have to reflected in an intelligent manner. The pace of the novel is fast.
However this novel was able to keep on the mind of everybody. It's appealing is obvious depending on reader's many young onr can't resist to be amazed. A bit boring but overall it's good. Rating: 4/5.
The title of the book, the blurb, everything you need to decide whether you want to read a book or not, was thoroughly misleading. I cannot even tell you how confused I was once I was well into the book, it was completely different from what I had expected; and that is he one thing I did not like about this book. I liked the concept of the book, I understood where the author wanted to take the book but it did not translate well. The writing style is good but the book is too detailed and too long for its own good; I would’ve done away with a lot of parts in the editing. The narration style is pretty great too; I usually don’t read sci-fi but I really liked how the author was weaving the story. The characters were too many and a little annoying to be honest; I was hoping the main characters would grow on me but they didn’t. In terms of the story and the narration, this book is a superstar but the other factors fall flat.
As the title suggests yet ironical, how could it be possible a year which has no summer in it?
Story of Sharat where he has gone through a very crucial and critical crises as in Kolkata downfall of temperature is faced which is badly affected, it’s a do or die situation for everybody .
The situation is getting worst day by day as the weather has been deprived so much and Sharat is seen struggling through life for his family also.
In this unpredictable life and future will Sharat be able to safe the people from such crises?
The struggle is real and the pain could be seen as every situation is described well.
Two stories are running side by side and the characterization is also so realistic that the whole narration is appreciated.
A sci fic genre where scientific terms has also been used and its advancement and technology and also a bit of companionship amongst Sharat and Niharika who are helping the people together.
What I liked the best in this book was at the end the difficult Bengali words have been described so well so that the reader doesn’t have any problem for further reading.
Also, the concept is really very different, though a lengthy read but I enjoyed it thoroughly
OMG! All I can say about this book is that- don't judge the book by its title. Honestly by seeing the title, I thought it would be a love story. But after reading the whole book I just realized that I was really wrong. This is basically a science fiction where the readers can enjoy the concept of alternate universe. The way the author described the concept of time and space with the mixture of both science and fiction, is just awesome! The book is really rich with it's content. With every page the readers can expect a new thing to explore in front of their eyes. Another plus point of this book is, it's strong characterization. The author has portraityed every character with great care! The cover is really attractive and eye-catching! The language is simple. If you love science fiction books, then you will love the book for sure.
[REVIEW] The story follows Niharika and Sharat. The books has different perspectives at different times and planets. The concept of a year without summer is introduced to the readers. It is of the Sci-Fi genre and this is not an easy category to read and even write. The author had a lot of ideas and information for the story. The research down by the author is evident as well. What didn’t work with the story is the excess of that information and ideas. It can lead the story line towards a confusing and frustrating read. The shift of the time zones was not smooth. The characters were not properly developed as well. A lot of characters lead to confusion. If you like reading a lot of details, this book can interest you. The writing and narration needs work as well. The cover was not charming as well. Tho, I really enjoyed the idea of the plot. Overall, I rated this book a solid 2.5/5 🌟
Having picked up the book my very first thought was the title itself is so intriguing also what will it be a love story or what genre it is. After reading the blurb it's a bit clear what ge re it is. And yes the author does not let you down. From the cover itself it gives you a mild softness in the story and a sense of scifi happening all around. The story revolves around the two main characters I love how the story starts. The book is divided into five parts. I love how the book is well researched and written as it isn't easy to do so with this genre. Over all a good read. The story is a bit long but interesting. Would definitely recommend it to the reader
Picking a book in winters, titled 'A Year Without Summer' is sufficient to give chills. Although the book is not just a fiction written over climatic change but is a well composed science fiction that covers the subject of time travel, space, telepathy and culture.
The story starts by introducing the two main characters- Sharat is a son of zamindar from 1816 and Niharika is a cheerful girl from 2018. This story is about how they meet and get teleported to another time dimension and then to the Barrenium made planet Nocturne. How they meet different people, how they overcome all the hurdles to achieve their objectives are answered in the book. The book has various other characters and humanoid who are well characterized. The book consists of a twisted plot with various time dimensions but seems well researched and structured. The book has five parts: Intertwined Subconscious, The Weak Link, A Battle in Sands Of Time, The Reconstitution, The Last Burst Of Fire curating its skeleton.
To me, reading the book felt more like dreaming my strangest dream. But the book gets too detailed at some points resulting in momentarily interest loss. The techie scenes involving pushing the button, teleporting scenes, etc are very realistically narrated. The book contains very intriguing elements but it does not feel like any adaptation and gives a Bengali touch through its active speeches.
The book has no doubt elevated the level of Indian science fiction genre. It is must read for all the sci-fi fantasy lovers.
Do you hate summer for its hotness? Or love it for mangoes, holidays etc? Ever wondered what happens if there is no summer for a year? What happens if it is winter all 365days? May be the climate will be too romantic or depressions, diseases Will be too common? without wasting time let's get into the book.

A Year Without Summer is a tale on how lives can intertwine with no restrictions in space time and dimensions.
My take on this story: I feel that the author read about sci-fi and technology from multiple sources in multiple point of views which gave her wide exposure and made her to present in wide way. I prefer depth than wide. This book is of Sharath and niharaka's journey from their consiuos and subconscious mind and vice versa. It is like travelling around the time. This book gives us little knowiabout physics and it's connection with universe. This book is written in the context where this universe is a town .
Positive sides: 1. This story is having fresh and unique concept. 2. The way author plotted the Connection between two eras. 3. This story is Spreading knowledge regarding universe. 4. Author's narration is smooth. 5. This book is Reader engaging. 6. I loved the way the author introduced humanoids into the plot. 7. Title is apt to the story.
Negative sides: 1. This story is very lengthy. 2. There is little drag in the story. 3. The concepts are bit unclear. 4. It feels like jumping from one side to other so quickly 5. It could have been more better if the story had been wrapped up before. 6. Cover is boring. 7. I feel that the story could have been more interesting and title could have been more proper.
Do I recommend this book? Yes , to all the sci-fi lovers I feel that this book is best for you from my experience. Also to the long book lovers, you can close your eyes and go for it . To the people who doesn't prefer long reads, you can simple skim through the concepts as this story is worth reading atleast once .
Book Title: A year without summer Author: Shreyan Laha Format: Paperback
Book Title: The title of the book ' A year without summer ' is mysterious.
Book Cover: The cover image of the book is an artistic representation of a colonial time city with people and a big moon.
About the book: The year 1816 experienced the sudden downfall of temperatures. Kolkata had frozen to its lowest of -15 degrees Celsius. Widespread diseases were common. Sharat was no exception as he was forced to quit his Zamindar lifestyle after his parents died. On the other hand in 2018, there was Niharika, living in the best of times - in fairly modern society. A Year Without Summer is a tale on how lives can intertwine with no restrictions in space-time and dimensions.
My review: The book is divided into five parts. With many characters and an interesting plot, the book is a delightful read. The chapters transit between the years 1816 and 2017-18. The concept of a parallel dimension is very interesting. The atmospheric changes, sudden fall in temperatures creating havoc and as a result, the epidemic of dreadful diseases gives the readers a panic state to think.
The story also talks about various elements that come under the sci-fi concept. The book can appease readers who are mostly into this genre.
What I like: 1. The plot 2. The characters 3. The swift transition between different time periods 4. The atmospheric issues are explained well 5. The concept of Barrenium is interesting 6. The introduction of humanoid is impressive to read
What I didn't like: 1. The length of the book seems a concern. 2. The cover image could have been better
Characters: All the characters mentioned in both the timelines are drafted well with impressive characterization.
Narration: The story oscillates between two time periods. With an engaging plot, the narration in the book is found interesting. As the story belongs to the sci-fi genre there are some interesting sequences in the story. Though sci-fi is not my cup of tea, I managed to read the book. I found the book a bit lengthy.
Language & Grammar: The language and the grammar used in the story is quite satisfying.
My Final Verdict: A year without summer season for a reason

The book is a great source of knowledge and insipration as it is written in a perfect blend of thoughts comprising of sci - fiction which is a challenging to blend the literature with Sci-Fiction. The author has done a fantastic job. It made is totally hooked up till the end. The book is divided into 5 parts which made it convenient for us to understand how the story moves about. 1) Intertwined Subconscious 2) The Weak Link 3) A Battle in Sands Of Time 4) The Reconstitution 5) The Last Burst Of Fire
Each part is having its own significance in making the novel a perfect read for reader's who would love to read something that gives them satisfaction in terms of knowledge. Now comming to story the author has justified to the tittle " A Year Without Summer" - as he has done well research in explaining why 1816 was considered a year without summer, there are new things which I got to know about The Tsar Bomba as it was the most powerful necular weapon which was donated in history by the former Soviet Union in 1961. The story is on Sharat and Nihraika who are the main characters of the book. When you will read the novel there are many things to be discovered as a reader will be surprised to read about how Sharat was forced to quit his Zamidar lifestyle. There was another important character Agast who has a significant role in adding importance as he was the one walked with Sharat through the city of new barren land. The plot of the story was something out of the box which I read. I liked the chapter "Love Conquers All" as many things are revealed by the author in this which comes as the turning point as Sharat had bandage on his head and Nihraika was crying on seeing him in this condition. I am glad someone wrote something on this topic. I could not even justify in words how much inspiration I can take from this book. I would like to recommend it to all the students who are lover of science fiction books, someone who wants to understand the depth can read it for knowledge.
Book Review: “Raja Ramchandra is always with a person who is true to his actions no matter whatever his dreams are. And you look same. I know, you wouldn’t ideally like the life you are leading. You are meant for better things & you will surely achieve them” - said the priest to Sharat (part II, earth 1816 A.D.) . . 📚Before I start I must appreciate the efforts of writer for coming up with something Interesting related to History and Science 📚 Author did a great research before putting his thoughts into words 📚Book is divided into 5 parts:
Part 1-Intertwined Subconscious Part 2- The week link Part 3- A battle in the sand of time Part 4- The reconstitution Part 5- The last burst of fire . 📚The book starts with Sharat and Niharika who find their lives upside down, lost somewhere and couldn’t remember what is going on? 📚Sharat meets Cerula and Niharika meets Agnimukh and soon they start to realise the scenario and make it work. 📚The story moves in different aspects, on one side we have sharat in 1816s who had to leave his zamindari and work as daily wage worker and on the other side we have nikarika who is living in good condition. . . What i liked* 📚Book division is justified, reading part 2 and 4 was very interesting 📚Characters (sharat, niharika, agnimukh, cerula, etc are well defined) 📚Title of the cover is explained properly 📚Narrations are carefully written to explain each and every detail 📚Author has somewhere tried to show that now is the time we save our earth-what our earth might be if we don't care for it now (animals will be in bad condition, no fresh air to breath, radiations all around, no trees, pitch black planet, etc) 📚Little bit of exaggeration is used which i think is justified for fiction writeups. . . Read the book to know more about the following- 📚Q. What goal is set by Agnimukha and Cerula for Niharika and Sharat respectively? 📚Q. What exactly is it that author refers to New Barren Lands in year unknown? 📚Q. What is butterfly affect and why is the title called so? 📚Q. Will Niharika and Sharat be able to accomplished what is required of them? 📚Q. What is Humpty star system?
PLOT - 'A year Without Summer' the title itself Shows that the story is Something Different and unique to be plotted in this book. Yes! This story is a Science fiction story written by the author and this is the 2nd science fiction story I read from this Author. The previous one is named as Not worth living for.
In this Book the Main Characters of the story is From different centuries. Sharat is a boy from the year 1816. He is a land holder but after his parents death He was forced to quit this lifestyle. While on the other hand Niharika on the Year 2018 is A Young and energetic girl who lives her life to the fullest in a Modern Society with her group of friends, her loving parents She loves them So Much. Both of them are busy living their life without knowing what future Holds for them. Both of them was belonging to different time frames, different cultures, different lifestyles but destiny fate them in a new planet called Nocturne. Nocturne is made up of small compounds which is rarely found named as Barrenium.
So, after reading the summary of the Story You will know that the book is Based on Science fiction in which a new planet called Nocturne has been described which is going to be destroyed due to a battle otherwise Nocturne is a civilised city. Sharat and Niharika was choosen to rebuild the planet. So Sharat and Niharika with some other Humanoids rebuild the Planet. The difference in time period is described very well in the Story. Technology used in future is also plotted very well. Overall book was written with authors efforts to make it more informative, more interesting to the readers.
REVIEW
Title of the book is Mysterious and unique.
Cover of the book is simple yet it does not depicted that the story is Science fiction.
Language was simple and smooth to understand.
Plot was easy to read and understand. There was no confusion between the differences on the time period of the Story. Author did great job in describing both the characters of the story very well.
I really appreciate the Authors work on Writing this excellent Thrilling Science fiction Book.
🅸🅽🆂🅸🅶🅷🆃🆂 This book is a science fiction. Where the author have created a parallel world to the earth. The place is called as NEW BAREN LAND. The place is near to extinction and need to be build again in order to make habitat able. There are two humans who are the chosen one’s to rebuild the realms. Niharika and Sharat are the two who are chosen and are brought on the planet. Firstly they don’t accept the reality of their being on that planet but eventually as they were guided, they believed that its not a dream but their purpose of life.
Sharat was from 1816 year from Ramrajatala, India. In 1815, on the island of Indonesia, the volcano exploded which affected nearly whole world. This explosion of April 10, s one of the most powerful volcanic explosions recorded in history and covered the entire skies with dark clouds of sulphur di oxide for next one and half year. Hence, 1816 was considered as “A year without summer”.
The NEW BAREN LAND planet was developed in many things. The artificial intelligence had ease the many processes. But as the extinction was near, the creator had chosen Sharat and Niharika to be their last chance to build new era.
How will sharad play his role to build this new planet? What is the role of Niharika? How Sharat and Niharika meet up? How they believe and decode the real purpose of their being on both the sides?
🆁🅴🆅🅸🅴🆆🆂 I’m more than glad to read this book. And I feel proud that this book is from Indian author. The book has more and more to surprise you and make you hold to it. The story is scifi fiction but the way the author have written is non commendable.
The characterization was so strong, you will feel connected to it. The places and scenes were explained in a manner that you feel you are looking a 3D movie.
What I liked is the author have managed to keep the balance between every chapter where he have switched to different scenes. It wasn’t confusing and I didn’t felt lost.
I don’t wanna compare the work of the author with anyone else, but I would definitely say that this was best book I have read from Indian author in this genre.
Just imagine the picture of future when there will advance technology and the universe become like a city when planets are just areas like towns in present world. Kolkata in 1816 faced a sudden fall in temperature. It affected all the humanity harshly with diseases and resulted in death of many humankind and become a crisis. The cause of this crisis is natural but what can be a solution ? The solution lies around the time and space. Sharat a young fellow find himself in a dilemma of travelling between his present to future. This adventure journey unfolds a unique and advanced technological world where all things are unpredictable. Yes all the phenomenon happening is the futuristic world are different and out of scope of our imagination. Sharat is a selected human representative to work on the wrong thins happening around in the advanced world but he is so innocent to take the responsibility. The war of future civilization is about to happen. Sharat with Niharika and some humanoid companion have responsibility to manage the situation. The story fluctuates between two time periods initially. The first one when earth suffers from sudden temperature downfall and the other one is a highly advance technological world whose time period in not predicted yet. The connection between two times leads an fantastic journey loaded with science and technology. I like this new concept where a deep knowledge of physics and universe combined to make a good futuristic world. The crisis in both world but the solution is important to consider. The advance world required advance solution and it is only possible with a matter named Berrenium. This unique concept and the detailing is most appreciable thing. Kudos to the author to frame a good sci fi story with untold concepts. With many characters and incidents it's composition good with scientific touch. Consisting 5 parts within, it is quite lengthy but this doesn't affect the flavour of sci fi. The main feature of this book is it's detailing. I like this book. Virtually I appreciate this kind of sci-fi books. Everyone should read this kind of work. For people with science background it should be a good book to read.

Book Name : A Year Without Summer Author: Shreyan Laha Genre: Science Fiction Format: Paperback , Kindle(eBook) Language : English Available on : Amazon MRP : ₹399 Publication: Bigfoot Publications Pvt. Ltd Pages: 265 Suitable for: Above 12
Have you ever think about a year without summer? Isn’t it sounds weird especially in a Asian subcontinent like India?
Concept : In this science fiction based book ‘A Year Without Summer’ the author takes us to a journey of future with a different time frame. The plot is imaginary but reasonable. The book is divided into 5 parts - Intertwined Subconscious, The Weak Link, A Battle in Sands Of Time, The Reconstitution, The Last Burst Of Fire. Each part is divided into some sub parts according to their content. It starts with two main characters - Niharika and Sharat. The energetic girl Niharika lives in the year 2018 in a modern civilized society with her parents whereas poor boy Sharat, son of a Zamindar lives alone after his parents death in the year 1816. There are something dangerous that awaited for them in future. All on a sudden the story moves into a different direction. Though they are from different time period but they meet in a new Barrenium made planet Nocturne unknowingly. After meeting Cerula and Agnimukh and soon they started realising the scenario New Barren Lands and unfolds their adventurous journey.
Criticism: Using some Bengali words like ‘Bhoj’, ‘Ghar-Jamai’ , ‘Kaku’ , ‘Jethu’ , ‘Mama’ , ‘Muhuruta’ , ‘Purut’ , ‘Rosogolla’ etc successfully created the identity of this book among thousands of science-fiction based book . Those words give a unique taste to the reader and make the book lively. But the font size of this book is small enough to create some extra pressure on eyes. Though it’s main character are a man and a woman but it never turns into a love story. My Ratings: Overall – 3.9/5 Title - 4/5 Cover - 3/5 Language – 4.6/5 Concept – 3.8/5
Book- A Year Without Summer Author- Shreyan Laha Pages- 365 Genre- Science fiction
The plot of this book "A year without summer is very unique. The plot revolves around a new planet called Nocturne which was ravaged by the compounds of a rare element called Barrenium. There are so many character in the story but the main characters are Niharika and Sharat but they do not belong from same century. Sharat is from 1816 and belongs to a family of land holders. After his parents he was forced to quit his zamindari lifestyle. On the other hand Niharika belongs to the modern days of 2018. She is a charming and happy girl, partying around with her bunch of friends. Little did they know what awaited them in far future.
The book starts with a character named Sharat, where he couldn't recognize his family but the family members are so happy because of the come back of Sharat and it part made me think " what's going on here" and then slowly and slowly things started falling into places.
This is my first science fiction from this author. This book is a well written, and each character is portrayed with equal importance. The detailed description show how much hard work the author must have done to write down this book. He has done a well research on the events and then shaped into a plot. He has explained the reason of the title of the book 'A Year Without Summer' and how it happened.
The book is written in simple language yet engaging. This is a bit lengthy but once you get into it you will surely enjoy every bit of it. I love how all the chapters are separated in respect of the characters and how history and science and related. Over all this was a good book. This is a science fiction and sci-fic lover will surely enjoy this one.

Book-A year without Summer Author- Shreyan Laha Type-Fiction Format- Paperback Rating- 5/5
The year 1816 is known as the year without a summer, it was a three year period of severe climate deterioration of global scope which had impact largely on Europe and North America. As far as the book is concerned, it combines the two timelines- historic timeline with contemporary timeline. A Year without Summer is a brilliant story with lot of sci-fi technologies and advancements. Story takes the reader through a series of events and eloquently describes the status of nature over the centuries.
Book has multiple parts, each part written with extensive research, albeit excessive advancement makes sometimes plot to be more complex, the work done in the book is appreciable in terms of substance, root cause analysis, impact and methodology. The Book inter-alia talks about time travel as well. Interactions between the characters was very sophisticated though out the book.
Though it is pertinent that the knowledge of global threat be spread all over the world, steps taken by Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Changes are also noticeable, which could be mentioned with more focus and imbibed in this fiction book. Nevertheless, plot was unique in terms of knowledge sharing and transfer.
If we talk about other things of the book, then Language of the book is simple and not a hurdle in reading. Narration by author is remarkable. Cover of the book is simple and quite nice. Title could be better like “Another year without summer”. Use of indigenous words is notable. Pace of the story was fine.
Overall book is a long and healthy read and should be read. It was a productive and fruitful read with lot of information and knowledge. Thinking about many fiction technologies are still quite intriguing. I highly recommend this book.
