You all know the story of your favorite fairytale, but did you ever wonder what happened after the fairytale ending? Well we know. Not all afters end up happily, sometimes the real adventure starts much later...
With the queen's curse returning, the Anti-Mermaid League are on the warpath and the merfolk aren't helping matters with their jealousy over my relationship with Fish. I'd never thought that enemies could turn to lovers, but my feelings towards my sworn enemy are deepening and I'm not the only one to notice. With my friends straddling both sides of the Anti-merfolk line, I'm going to have to make a decision... and soon!
Born in Leeds, I lived a very normal life until I got bored one day and decided to travel the world. Since then I've worked on a Banana Plantation, cleaned ACDC's dressing room and been a professional clown. I climbed to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and the top of Kilimanjaro. Nowadays you'll find me being a climbing frame for my two young children, working in a school, and renovating my home. Did I also mention I wrote some books? I hope you enjoy them! This is book two of the Little Mermaid in the Kingdom of Fairytales and we watch as Blaise is dealing with a ton of issues but instead of facing them head on she runs away with Fish. Blaise finds out some very surprising information when she runs and hides with Fish things that confuse her. I really enjoy this series and can not wait to read more of it. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book
I love how armitage writes these books. Blaise is maturing in this book, but I do not like most of the times that she tries to evate her responsibility. But damn that cliff hanger at the end. Happy I can start book 3 right away
J.A. Armitage and Audrey Rich are back with a new installment of their Little Mermaid story arc / sub-series within the overarching Kingdom of Fairytales series. I adore the overarching theme of that collection: what happens after the “happily ever after” moment in our favorite fairytales. It’s first story arc (separately reviewed), by Armitage alone, was about the Sleeping Beauty ever after and it was wonderfully superb, and this new one, which began with Queen of Mermaids (separately reviewed) is equally great. Now, in Heiress of the Sea: A Little Mermaid retelling (Kingdom of Fairytales Little Mermaid Book 2), we find Princess Blaise of Atlantice (daughter of the Little Mermaid) straddling two sides, the pro-merfolk side of her new beau Fish the merman and her former colleagues on the Anti Mermaid League, still devotee to eliminating menfolk. She’s in for a complicated ride as many merfolk aren’t exactly welcoming. It’s the makings fir a wonderful tale, though, in the hands of these two talented authors and they take it to its heights with a deliciously well written story full of adventure and thrills (and romance) that’s a total pleasure to read - and which I very happily highly recommend.
After the encounter with AML, Blaise has spent some time underwater, seeing the way merpeople live.. yet their attitude is not much friendlier than the mood above surface. Aside from searching for her past to understand why she can suddenly breathe underwater, she has to face a ton of problems, especially with her parents gone due to her mother being a mermaid. Her former friends in AML are causing riots across the country, and Blaise has to stand up to try and open their eyes to see through the lies and hatred. Nice continuation of the Little Mermaid spin-off, with our heroine growing up fast under the circumstances, yet keeping her authenticity even with her decisions to run from her problems - after all, she was a sheltered princess, and is not used to dealing with dire issues. However, it is great to observe how she takes the decisions and gathers the courage to step out of her comfort zone and be the leader she is expected to be. Although we still don't know the identity of Fish, I believe until the end of the series we will get the info :))
Back in the kingdom of Atlantice, Blaise is dealing with a lot of problems, and by "dealing with them" I mean she is running away with Fish and avoiding them. I mean you can't really blame her for it. Seeing Blaise grow from book one to book two has been pretty amazing, from being in the center of hatred, allowing herself to be swept up in it and then being able to see how horribly wrong she was and to change; has been a wonderful breath of air. Not only does she accept that she was wrong, she takes responsibility for her part in what is happening in her kingdom.
I am enjoying so much watching this character grow and to find herself. What I really want to know is though: What the heck is Fish's real name? Girl! Stop it!
It's also nice to know I am not the only person who uses the word "asinine".
Blaise story continue in Heiress of the Sea second book in the Little Mermaid by J.A. Armitage and Audrey Rich.
Blaise is growing and starting to see how she and the AML are really wrong about the merfolk. The more she's getting to know Fish and learning the her mother is also a mermaid and that she can breath in the water.
But the AML is still spreading hates and the people of Atlantice is on riot. The fact that the Queen as hide the fact that she's a mermaid is really not helping. Blaise know that's she part responsible being a former member of the anti-mermaid league but how can she's stop all the hatred.
As her feeling for Fish is growing she will need to make a decision and quickly. Or maybe run with him and not having to deal with all of this.
I have received an arc of this book by J.A. Armitage and looking forward for more books in this great serie.
In this installment, Blaise really gets to know more about the merpeople life and see by herself that they are not that different from the land dwellers... Blaise struggle between her duties as princess and the freedom she thinks she needs but, after spending several days with her merman crush, she realized she's not ready to leave her life behind and gets convinced by her maid and new friend Emma, that she can really make a difference in the situation her people is going through and finally bring peace between them and the merpeople... After a succesful speech as the Atlantice Princess, she's headed to find her hot merman and tell him about the good news but, is not Fish who is waiting for her at the tunnel 😱😳🙈... OMG, can't wait for the next book!!! 😍❤️
Wow! What a story! What a page-turner! I was turning those pages like mad!
Now that Blaise found out she can breathe under water, it’s clear that she’s not fully human, but she’s also not fully mermaid. She’s in between and that leaves her a bit lost. Not really belonging anywhere, not really knowing what to do. With all the rioting going on she runs and hides. But as a former member of the AML (Anti-Merfolk League) she was part of the problem. She needs to face that problem and become part of the solution. But how?
This book shows once again that hate only generates hate and is not the answer. It doesn’t solve anything, it only creates more problems.
This installment leaned more towards romance than adventure, but stayed clean. That said, Blaise does some serious growing up as she starts to recognize some of the forces in both the worlds she is now part of and tries to find her place. She is learning who her true friends are and discovering enemies.
I liked how it had frequent nods to traditional Little Mermaid stories but remains its own original tale.
Part 2 of 4, it moved the story along satisfactorily and as expected, threw in a hook at the end for the next book.
Great continuation to the series! I didn’t notice any plot errors and the story ran nice and smooth. A bit more action and adventure and of course kissing to this next story! Including a very interesting build up for the next book. Everyone be warned this book ends with a cliff hanger! I’m most certainly ready for the next one!
Back to Little Mermaid's daughter's life. Here we see a huge character development as we see Blaise growing from her hatred towards merfolk to finally understand who and how they truly are. Even though she tries to avoid being in the center of the confusion, Blaise knows deep down she can do something to help people and merfolk to understand and live with one another.
I really liked book 2 a lot. With Blaise now knowing she can breath under water and her mother being a mermaid she needs to figure out how to Fix her problem of the Anti Mermaid League. She is also with Fish. I really like him. She has grown a lot
As Blaise's story continues, we witness her awareness of all that she believed was wrong. Finding her world turned upside-down, Blaise world to rethink her ideals and views of the world.
Great read loved the challenges that the couple faced . The way they dealt with each one of them . The characters and storyline were well developed. I would recommend this series to anyone who enjoys a fairy tale, even though it's told in a different light.
What a busy week for the princess. I was excited to read that there was a sea witch but she was quite different than what I expected. Emma is turning out to be a good friend.
Love that these books are clean. I just hope they are all that way. I am so tired of getting half-way through a book and being blindsided by filth. The story is engaging and I am excited to start reading the next chapter.
