The forests of Elder are filled with people that change into wolves on the full moon. For Castiel, the haunted woods that the big bad wolf once roamed is anything but scary. He’s spent the past few years of his life making a home in the woods and loving every minute of it. While he isn’t a wolf, he’s befriended them and found they make great neighbors, even if many in the country still see them as the monster they once were.

Unfortunately, the change to the new winter season has brought a sickness to the wolves Castiel counts as friends. When his wolf friends need help, Castiel is there to lend a hand and to try to get his mother to see that something is wrong. The only question is, can Castiel convince Little Red Riding Hood that the wolves need help before something terrible happens?

My name is Castiel, son of Red Riding Hood, and this is my story.

Born in Leeds, I lived a very normal life until I got bored one day and decided to travel the world. Since then I've worked on a Banana Plantation, cleaned ACDC's dressing room and been a professional clown.
I climbed to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and the top of Kilimanjaro. Nowadays you'll find me being a climbing frame for my two young children, working in a school, and renovating my home.
Did I also mention I wrote some books?
I hope you enjoy them!

I’ve read several series by B. Kristin McMichael (I strongly recommend The Skinwalker Witchling Trilogy, the Hunter Trilogy, the Chalcedony Chronicles, and the Day Human Trilogy for those new to her work), and I’ve read everything ever published by J.A. Armitage (one of my absolute favorite authors), so I just knew that when these two teamed up to start a new sub-series in the Kingdom of Fairytales books (each sub-series of which has been either solo or co-written by Armitage) it had to be great. Well, King of Wolves: A Little Red Riding retelling (Kingdom of Fairytales: Red Riding Hood, Book 1) more than exceeded expectations. Keeping with the theme of these books (what happens after the “happily ever after”), this is the story of Castiel, wolf-loving son of Red Riding Hood. His wolf friends are in trouble and figuring out what to do about it is the start of a superb adventure that’s perfectly written and totally fun. I am more that happy to recommend this book both to the many fans of these authors and to newcomers. (Oh, and while this sub-series works perfectly as a standalone, if you’ve not read the other Kingdom of Fairytales sub-series then I definitely recommend those standalone books too.)

Distrust, fear, and unknown sickness resembling the curse spreading, that calls for trouble.
Castiel was an outcast for all his life, being neither wolf nor a tree person. However, he seems to be kind of link between the wolf shifters, having a wolf friend, and the humans, as the Red has raised him like an adopted mother. His peaceful life starts to get disrupted though, upon discovery of strange sickness plaguing the wolf village, his leader not believing him, and his best friend getting mad for a complete irrelevant reason.
I felt a bit strange reading this story, considering how much it resembles our reality now, with sickness spreading, people fearing and taking precautions, etc. It felt so more real than the fantasy books before... it was like reading a twisted reality, like looking into some dysfunctional mirror. I also liked the main character very much, his calm demeanor and logical mind together with warm heart. Nevertheless, I also found some parts repetitive and going in circles, and found the first part progressing slow, hence a deduction of one star. Nevertheless, the cliffhanger at the end keeps me hooked, and I will read on :)

King of Wolves is the next book in the Kingdom of Fairytales and the first one in Red Ridding Hood by J.A.Armitage and B. Kristin McMichael.

We follow Castiel, Red's son. He have made himself a home in the woods, which are not as scary anymore since Red has remove the curse on the wolves. Castiel not a wolf but his friend is. But even if the wolves are not monsters anymore a lot of people still think they are.

But sickness have reach the wolves villages. More of than are starting to reverse back to the big bad wolves they once were eating everything they find on they're way. Soon the forest won't have enough food for them and they will start to get closer to the human villages.

Can Castiel convince Red that the curse is coming back before something terrible happens...

I have really love the first book in the little Red Ridding Hood retelling and can't wait to read more. I have received an arc of this book from J.A. Armitage.

Red's son lives in a world divided between tree dwelling humans and earthbound wolf shifters yet doesn't really belong to either. There is a lot of world building and character development in this book. While similar to the first two arcs, this one differs markedly in that it is not the Queen's curse that is returning, but that of the whole village of wolf shifters. This creates an interesting dynamic and presents different challenges for our hero to overcome.

This is book 1 in the third arc of this massive year spanning project tying together fairy tales from 12 different kingdoms. As with the previous sets, this 4 book set can be read independent of the other sets, but books within the arc should be read in order and the larger series is building together towards something big

A great start to a new series and a fantastic continuance and build to the fairytale collection. I really enjoy the main character being male in this one and enjoy the friendship he has with his wolf man companion. Great buildup started to be continued in book 2! This first book leaves you wanting book 2 right away!

This is the next epic installment of the Kingdom of Fairytales saga.
King of Wolves is about Red Riding Hood's son, yes I said son, Castiel. He has made his home in the woods of the wolves and made friends with them even though Reds kingdom thanks of them as monsters. When his friends get sick and need help Castiel has to convince Red to help.

*** Read in Kindle Unlimited ***
This is the first book in the Little Red Riding Hood retelling in the Kingdom of Fairytales world and we now get to focus on a new main character and the adventures and trials that they must face. I really enjoy how the author has kept to the same world yet has split up each retelling into its own series

I love this one. This time its with a guy as the main character. Again it gives a different vibe then the original but this one is very different then it. That makes it not less amazing. They made it fast paced, exciting, full of emotions and vibrant.
The tale is told so fantastic that its like you are there. Only think I hate is that you're at the end way to fast.

Book 1 in anew series always takes a little bit to get exciting. Although it takes some time warming up it
Leaves you with suspense, questions, deductions ( if you have been reading the rest of the series ) and the last page hooks you into book 2!

Now this is a retelling that has a great twist on Red riding hood. Red’s son takes center stage in this new set of retelling series and he can definitely hold his own. Loving the uniqueness and the adventurous depth of characters portrayed.

Great read

This next section of the series is a great read. I really like the storyline that is creative and not one that I have read before. Looking forward to the next installment!

Refreshing Tale

What a refreshing change to a fairytale with the continuation of the Little Red Riding Hood tale told from a male perception. A tale of a boy who doesn't fit in anywhere but managed to be everywhere.

I was ready to throw this out after the first few chapters and I'd lost count how many times I'd read the wolves were getting sick, the wolves never get sick. Basically skip this book and save yourself 94 pages of boredom.
The wolves are getting sick and no one knows why !

Not really enjoying this series like I did the others. Find myself always a couple of days behind whereas the others I want to read ahead but don’t allow myself to.

Going to continue though as I want to have completed the whole set of books at the end of the year.

King of Wolves is an amazing addition to the Kingdom of Fairytales retelling stories. In series 1 and 2 we've been receiving some sneaky peaks to what was happening in Elder, and now we are finally starting to receive information. Of course it's a slow paced book, since it's the first one and showing us the new characters and the kingdom of Elder, but it's really interesting. I'm really excited about having a male as a main character and Castiel has been my favorite main character so far! The last pages made me just want to read the second book of the series as fast as I can!
