April Fernsby lives in the north of England in a county called Yorkshire. Yorkshire has its fair share of hauntings and supernatural events, including a witch called Mary Bateman, aka The Yorkshire Witch, whose skeleton now hangs in a local museum.
April loves all things supernatural and mysterious. Her favourite book as a child was ‘The Faraway Tree’ as it took the reader into a different world where unusual creatures lived. April looked for a similar tree near her house but never found it.
Her Brimstone Witch series involves the main character, Cassia Winter, going through a cellar door and into another world where magical creatures live, and mysteries abound.
Very good series. Exciting at times, often humorous and heartrending at others. Very likeable characters, especially Cassia and Stanley. I would have liked to seen the character of Luca more developed as well as the sweet love story between him and Cassia. The individual mysteries were good sometimes surprising me. Side characters were well done including Cassia's grandmother, Blythe, and the good doctor. The variety of other paranormal creatures was done well and they were interesting. I recommend this book or the individual books that make up this collection. They could probably be read in any order as each is a stand alone, but there are some overlapping storylines that might not make sense if read out of order.
There was always just enough action and I love the witches and how kind and fair they are. Loved all the good characters and strongly disliked the evil ones but it was a great balance. Loved the town and the whole concept. I couldn’t always figure out who did the crimes. Thank you for writing this series. Took me about a week to get through all 13 books. Alexa was a great help reading the stories to me while making dinner and running the dogs out. Like I said, so hard to stop reading the series!
Don’t be put off by the number of books, they are each quick reads. While they are fun they are also sweetly told crime novels that are totally clean fluff. Unfortunately there are so many editing errors, and I have a laugh at the continually hairy neck of the main character. The fact that these books were once sold separately is obvious because each book introduces the same place and characters. I’m not sure I can really recommend it, except if you want some light escapism, that is often funny, sometimes from the errors, interesting characters and places.
I just finished the 13th story in the set. It's a cute cozy mystery series with the same features of most cozy mysteries: she's on the chunkier size, she love someone who adores her but she's not able to really decide to love him, there is a murder but the murder is never really as bad as they appear, there a small group of friends who always help.... It's not a horrible series, but it is a cozy mystery series, so it doesn't take much brain power to follow along.
It was such a pleasure to have these books in one collection. I truly enjoyed the interaction between the MC and the other characters, especially the relationship with her adorable kitty. And, while the innocent did suffer, the MC always focused on finding justice for the victims.
Although it was my pleasure to receive this free collection from the author, it was completely my choice to share my honest review.
I enjoyed reading this series. I hope for more to come out soon. I fell in love with Stanley. Such a brave and smart cat/familiar. Cassia was a good main character though I do wish she wouldn’t bumble into trouble so much. Hopefully the next books will have her think before action. She did pretty good in the last couple books. I loved all the different creatures created in this would and how they all interacted with each other.
This was such a fun great series. I told my granddaughter about it and thought she might really enjoy it. All the characters were great. Since I don't normally write reviews, I really don't know what to say except this is such a fun series that I recommend it to everyone. So, get ready to have a great time with Cassia and Stanley, Esther and Blythe and I can't forget Luca. Enjoy!
I like witch stories and have read many, but I love this set. I thought it was gonna be just another witch story, but it's anything but. I love these characters. Cassia and Stanley are so great together. I love that each book had an ending but it had a little to take you to the next. Each one makes you want to read the next. The only thing wrong with #13 is that it's the end and there's no more. I want more.
.O nce I started this book I could not stop reading it. There was not one boring moment. I spent a few days reading it but it was worth every moment. Now I'll have to catch up on everything I haven't done. Maybe it was a spell that caused me not able to put it down.
Really enjoyed reading a little bit of this series every day. I really looked forward to it! Now what? Is there a book 14??? Loved this series and the adventures of this good witch, her cat and all the other magical creatures. Such an imaginative read. Highly recommend to anyone that enjoys this genre.
I read them all. One after the other. I couldn't get enough of the quirky characters, Stanley (the cat that is so easy to love), Cassie, Blythe and Gram. Each story builds upon the one before, while still having the stand alone quality. Truly wish I could move to Brimstone! Plus, the Author has a great name.
Such a truly fun read. A collection of fun little mysteries which are set in and around the mystical town of Brimstone. When a young woman finds out she's actually a witch and her cat is actually her familiar her life is turned upside down, but in a good way. Full of action, mystery, intrigue and in so many mythical creatures. A great read!
No matter the case of what land they need to go to, Cassia and Stanley always solve their case. The friendship, love, and respect they share for each other always leads them to their culprit. Of course their is a network of more knowledgeable, experienced characters to support the duo. Not to mention the magical butterfly messengers.
I too love all things magical and these books filled that bill. The characters were well developed and certainly became familiar to the point of feeling like family. I look forward to reading more stories in the future. Thanks April!
I loved all these stories! Wish there were more. I think it would make a great tv series as well. It would be great to see all the characters come alive!!
Really enjoyed reading the 13 books in compendium. It’s so much better to read a series all at once. I found the main character Cassia and her cat Stanley engaging. The stories were all interesting and fun to read.
Each book has a new mystery for Cassia and Stanley to investigate. Who wouldn’t love a place like Brimstone? Where beings of all kinds live. The Author, April Fernsby has painted a beautiful place, with her words. Happy Reading!
This is a sweet, feel-good set of stories. Easy to read, no editing errors that forced my imagination to screech to a halt. Recommended for someone who just wants to have a fun and simple read. (While drinking tea and eating biscuits.)
I had read some of the books before. But with all the books I have read I did not remember who did what. I enjoyed reading them again and the culprit was never who you expected.
Join Cassia and Stanley as they transition from the human realm to the magical realm of Brimstone. Mysteries abound and friendships grow as you read each new book.
I really enjoyed reading this mystery box set. I liked all of the supernatural beings involved in these mystery stories and Cassie White being able to solve them. I would recommend them to anyone who enjoys these kind of mysteries.
A lot of imagination went into this series. So many interesting & clever beings. All the investigations were different & you just had to keep reading to see how it all came out. I will miss Cassia, Blythe, Luca & Esther. But especially Stanley.
Love when I can read a whole series, though each book does do well on their own. Witches, mystery, murders, unicorns, and other mystic creatures. So much and so little time. Had a hard time putting it down to live my life!
Love how the stories complement each other. Was hocked from book 1 till the last. Some was even funny. Some keeped me up all night. Could not stop reading.
