All he wanted was her blood... then her whole heart started coming with it.
Broke. That's what I was after my husband ran off with another woman. Not just my heart, either. My bank account took the hit, too. Thanks to the debt he left behind, I struggled to get by while I pieced my life back together. Until I'm made an offer I can't refuse.
Five million dollars, and all I have to give is five years of my life as a blood donor - to a vampire.
It was supposed to be a business transaction. He gets my blood; I get his money. Simple. Easy.
I should have known better.
I wasn't the only one broken. Except, the truth was, with him around ... I didn't feel broken anymore. When the truth comes to life, when there are more than just two options, we both have a choice to make. He can either join me in the light, or I can embrace the darkness.

The heroine:Amelia - recently divorced from her cheating ex. Amelia has to work two full time jobs in order to pay her mortgage and try to work down the credit card debt her husband left her with.
The Hero:Aiden - Aiden is a vampire who has been alive for centuries. He has more money than he could ever spend and has already outlived the love of his life. Modern times have made it hard for vampires to feed with traffic camera’s, cell phones and security camera’s everywhere, so Aiden has solved the problem in an unorthodox way.
The Story: Aiden and Amelia meet at a night club where she was working as a waitress at night to make ends meet. He later proposed a solution to both of their problems, offering her five million dollars to feed from her daily for five years.
Amelia is pretty quick to recover from learning that vampires are real, and I was happy to see that she didn’t have to face some moral dilemma over whether she should take Aiden up on his offer. She was pretty matter of fact about the offer and takes him up on it very quickly. I liked this twist on your standard vampire fare and I always enjoy a story where the two main characters live in the same house. The romance was natural and not too quick and not too slow.
The narration was done by Alex Black and Anna Black. I loved the fact that they had both the male and female narration within each chapter, like a play. I never like it when they have men do female voices within the male chapters and vice versa. Though the narration wasn’t perfect, it was very good.
One more thing, I did love when Amelia got the makeover and the Pretty Woman shopping scene, where she was given carte blanche to buy anything she wanted. And the revenge scene was pretty awesome as well.
This book is so boring I would rather watch paint dry. I stopped reading at 26% mark when the vampire (I forgot his name), pulled Pretty woman on me.
At times over the centuries, my grief and loneliness had driven me into the bed of a woman that I’d used to ease the ache Isobel’s loss had left behind. But I’d found nothing but more loneliness awaiting me in their arms. And even though I’d tried to find solace in their bodies, I’d never allowed their lips to touch mine. My lips, my kiss, belonged to Isobel and Isobel alone. But for the first time in five hundred years, I longed to touch them to another.
Ooo my! Into The Light is one of my top 5 Vampire-Romance books! It was a different take on the Vampire lore, quite enjoyable for sure. Emilia and Aiden's story was sooo sweet! I L-O-V-E-D it! The ending was just PERFECT!
I tried, but unfortunately this isn’t my cup of tea. Even if you take away the insta-love portion of this; now a vampire is going to voluntarily turn human after 600 years of living…… over a human he met a week ago? I’m sorry. There is too much to unpack in just that one statement alone……
Also- I had to stop listening to the audio version. I’m not sure if it was the written dialogue or the narrators, but it was really difficult to listen to. I went forward about 5 more chapters in the ebook version before I called it quits.
I'm not usually one to pick up a book about vampires but I am a sucker for a good love story, and Into the Light by Katherine Hastings does not disappoint.
When we meet Emilia she is nothing short of a hot mess. Her husband walked out and left her with a broken heart and a pile of debt. Her parents are dead and she has no siblings. She's alone and broken. And when she thinks it cannot get any worse, she loses her job.
Lucky for Emilia, Aiden arrives just in time to rescue her. No, he's not a knight on a white horse, but he does have a once in a lifetime offer for her. Uncertain of his real agenda but curious, she takes the bait. What else can she lose at this point, right?
Emilia soon learns Aiden doesn't want to kill her, but he does want her blood. He is a vampire and needs a good source of blood to stay alive, and according to him, Emilia's got the best supply. In exchange for five years of her services, she'll walk away with five million dollars. Aiden's assistant Mark guarantees her safety and anything she could imagine. Yes, anything - five-star accommodations, designer clothes, delicious food, luxury cars and shoes for days!
Emilia quickly gets cozy in her new residence and enjoys the company of Mark. She even starts to look forward to feeding time. As time continues to pass, both Emilia and Aiden develop feelings neither of them anticipated. Their love is strong but cannot survive forever without sacrifice. How much is a lifetime together worth?
I found myself for the first time wishing vampires were real. The agreement is intriguing and Aiden's charm, wit and good looks only sweeten the deal. And then there's Mark. He's absolutely hilarious and one of my favorite secondary characters ever. I really want him to get his own story!!
Into the Light is a fantastic story about two people who are willing to go the distance when it comes to love, no matter how impossible it seems or how many obstacles they face along the way. I enjoyed spending time with these characters and sincerely hope this is not the last we see of them.

Wow... just wow. I am still smiling after reading finishing my ARC copy of this book and I want to go back and read it all over again. I'll admit I'm not usually a paranormal romance reader, but this book is soooo much more than your standard overdone vampire book. It's emotional and unique, and I'd recommend it to fans of contemporary romance as well. This is a new take on vampire romance, and it is one I am LOVING. Every page is filled passion, laughter and so many feels I think my heart exploded on several occasions. I loved Aiden and Emilia... LOVED them. One of my favorite couples of all time. And Mark! LOL Trust me... you'll love him too! I don't want to give away too much of this amazing story, so just know that if you want a vampire romance that will touch you, make you laugh, and make your heart race from all the passion, then this is your next must-read romance novel.
The only vampire experience I have in reading books is from Twilight. When this book came up in my email, I looked at it because I have read this author’s work before. While it is nowhere near my traditional line of reading, as I generally steer clear of paranormals, I decided to pick it up. I really did enjoy it. It was new and different. The humor woven in was great too. It was an exciting adventure of a book with many twists and turns. Great characters. I think it would make a great start to a new series!

I have to admit that Vampires aren't my usual trope. But this story sucked me in from the first sentence. I never thought I could laugh so hard over a book featuring a vampire! I almost peed my pants while reading about Mark meeting Aiden for the first time! And there are many moments like that. It’s also a heartwarming story about true love. The characters of Aiden and Emilia (and of course Mark) are awesome! It goes without saying that I really recommend this book!
I received an arc of this book and this is my voluntary and honest opinion.
What a wonderful and unique paranormal read from Katherine Hastings. I wasn't sure what to expect from this author and a vampire story line but I should not have questioned myself because I have loved the contemporary romance reads by this same author and this book, vampires and all, was not any different. An engaging story line that has you hooked from the beginning all through the ups and downs until the very end. There is a sweet romance woven all through Emilia and Aiden's story and then add in Mark (who should really get his own book) and it all makes for this great read.
This was an awesome book that I really enjoyed. The story and characters grabbed me from the beginning and I couldn't stop reading. I loved the characters and watching them grow together, they were well written and went well together. I found this book amazing with great word building making me feel apart of the story and watching it unfold in front of me. A definite must read for any fan and I can't wait to read more from this author!!!

A well written story with a very good storyline the story flowed smoothly from page to page. Once I started reading I was not putting the book down until I had finished reading it. I wonder if Thorne is going to get a story. This is Aiden Mackay a vampire and Emilia Charles a human and everything he goes through to be with her. I recommend this book. Of course Katherine Hastings knocked this one out of the park! I will forever and always devour every book this author puts out. Hastings has the talent and ability to write characters that I fall in love with, root for, and miss long after the last page is turned. Love paranormal romance with a bit of humor and a lot of passion? GET THIS BOOK NOW!
Have to give it to you for giving a new take on a vampire/human relationship. Why do authors always write the stereotype that vampires just straight up kill people to feed? This portrayal makes SO MUCH sense. Pay a human to let you feed for a few years, keeps humans alive blood supply steady and no one is the wiser. The fact that there is a way to reverse vampirism to become human again was unexpected. But with the way the origin of vampirism is explained it fits. It also makes sense that once the body isn’t being sustained by blood or life force that it will deteriorate and die. Aiden is smarter than just jumping into detransitioning like that without doing some sort of research. Emilia, being naive to his entire world/existence leaves her understandably overwhelmed and she wouldn’t know where to start or who to ask about any of it. It’s still sus to me that he just agreed to put himself through all of the torture to detransition and give up his immortality for a chick he fell for in such a short amount of time. Also I don’t know anyone who would be like oh no hot vampire dude I don’t want to be like you and live forever I’d rather frolic around in the sun and die. I mean come on. The foodie in me understands wanting to keep food and alcohol but the rest ehhhh. The Picts being first of all based on a real group is so badass. The descriptions give them a really interesting native magic, no doubt somewhat sustained by not only bloodlines but nature as well. They kind of gave me the same vibes as the portrayal of native Atlantians from the old Disney movie. Which really sucked me back into things since Atlantis and similar stories have always fascinated me. It took me longer to read because a little after the becoming human my interest started to wane so I just put it down and waited to come back to it. I mean yeah it was cute seeing him taste things and experience all these firsts like a baby who could tell you every reaction and already drink. But that gets boring, and the overly giddy attitude about humanity really grated on my inner pessimist. All the lovey dovey soul tie, one heart beating as one blah blah blah was a bit much. Tbh I was planning on finishing this book and being done with the series. However knowing the next one is focused on the Pict woman has me wanting to read it.
PS the best character was Mark and you can’t change my mind.

Emilia is a server at a bar or drinks place in Chicago. She is humorous and quirky. She is twenty-nine and has recently had a crappy hand in life dealt to her, mainly because of her now ex-husband.
He is a little weird. His name is Aiden, and his associate Mark. They offer her a lucrative business proposition. Just her luck, a patron would like to talk to her and buys her time with a steep amount. Just in time as she gets fired from her server position at the bar.
What a proposition and a bit of terrifying truth to go with it. I wonder if she will accept? I can't figure out how Mark, a supposed human knows the secret and stays at the house. Who is he to Aiden? I like that this jumps to Aiden's perspective because what we see from other characters' points of view is an uptight rich guy with no personality.
Aha, it gets revealed that makes more sense. She does agree, but what he feels is different than before, and I'm wording how this will play out. I love the paranormal history Aiden is spouting off. It is so intriguing. Yes, this is set in a modern world, and he is ancient.
This book has the third wheel vibe as Mark seems to be her daytime entertainment and there as needed, and Aiden appears to be her nighttime companion at least till things get heated. Then he runs off. But finally, they both are overcome by their chemistry, and this gets steamy.
He surprises her with a fairytale birthday complete with swoon-worthy surprises, and the kiss is hot enough to melt the pages. But just as all is well, he makes a decision that has consequences. Now they must save him, and then the book becomes more fantasy than paranormal.
Just as I'm writing this, the book creeps into fantasy. Their romance comes thru, and so do the waterworks omg, that scene couldn't have been more emotional. That is some magic. This book does end happy, but I won't ruin it for you.
This story could have been a movie. It read perfectly. It was exciting, page-turning, sweet, and romantic, with a nice amount of drama, trouble, and emotions thrown in to keep you on your toes. This book contained so much more than just a vampire romance. It had terrific history, emotional content, and even fantastical tales woven in. I enjoyed the love sorry in this book. I liked that they were older adults, but both were willing to sacrifice for each other. There were a few minor spelling mistakes in the book, but it didn't distract from the storyline.
I look forward to reading more in this series, even though it is with different characters.
An interesting take on the vampire myth (they've only been around 600 years) that is well thought out to make the story/characters/context believable.
It's all very Pretty Woman and slightly annoying how easy all the benefits of life come to the happy couple. I feel the characters didnt really put in the effort to deserves perfect happy ever after . They were always happy.
Emilia is written perfectly. Her narrative chapters are believable and funny. Aiden not so much. For a 600year old vampire the writing style doesn't really suit his mind or attitude.
Love scenes were good but did become numerous. The first couple were fun to read but I skipped the later ones because I wanted to know more plot ( I get it you both love each other).
Overall it's easy to read, maybe a good holiday read. Nothing to tax the mind over.

The synopsis was really good. It had a good start and kept my attention. However there were a lot of annoying or disconnected moments where I felt it should have been more meaningful or something, for instance, the way she kept saying Eat or Feed or OMG you haven't eaten today. It was completely amateurish and lacking. But I looked past it and kept going. The birthday scene...horrible..way too many copycat ideas and well overdone. I got to 76% complete and just stopped. What lost my interest was the revenge. Whereas I am all for one getting what they deserve, I prefer to let Karma handle that and stay completely out of it. If complete strangers did that to her ex, it may have been more entertaining, but honestly the way it was done was just childish and petty. Other than that, it was a decent read for what I was able to finish.

I love vampire romances and this one hit it right out of the park and I can’t wait to read book 2. This is the story of Emilia who’s down on her luck everything gets worse when she loses her job and in steps Aiden her knight in shining armour but he’s no knight he’s a vampire and he offers Emilia the chance of a lifetime, for 5 years of her life she will be in his service and her blood and in the end she will walk away with 5 million dollars how could she say no well she doesn’t and along the way they develop feelings for each other. Fantastic story and I really liked Mark’s character he was so funny I hope that he gets his own story and I highly recommend this book it’s well worth the read.
This book started out with so much promise. The pacing and dialogue in the first half of the book were great, and I thought maybe I had found a four star book. However, around the 52% mark the plot of the book really fell apart. The author introduced conflict after conflict without laying any of the requisite world-building foundations necessary. The last half of the book felt rushed and poorly written. The characters morphed from mature and well-developed to immature and one-dimensional.
Overall, I don't think I'll read more in this series or more by this author. It is probably not one I would recommend, either.
4 stars for Into the Light by Katherine Hastings. This is book one in the Immortal Hearts series. This is my first book from this author but I’m looking forward to reading more. This book is unique and has different Vampire lore than others in this genre. Emilia is going through a lot in her life. She gets this opportunity from Mark (who is amazing) and Aiden. Emilia learns Aiden is a vampire and he wants her to be his blood donor. These two are drawn to each other, but they don’t know why. I love how everything plays out in this book. It was interesting and pulled me in. It was a great romance.
One of the sweetest Vampire Romance novels I've ever read!
This book really surprised me! I started it with the frame of mind that it would be just like any other "quid pro quo"-give me your blood-I'll pay you a gianormous amount of money-type of romance novel but this was so much more! I found myself in tears at the end.
I highly recommend this book if you want a sweet, love story about a vampire and a human who would sacrifice anything to make the other happy. If you're looking for hot vamp sex, you won't find it here. The scenes are more sensual and romantic. An excellent read and a nice break from all the hard stuff I've been reading lately.
Ugh, when I read the description of this book I thought it was AMAZING. However, I started reading it and it turns out I was wrong. I am sorry, normally in my reviews I always compliment the story and the characters, but this book was sooooo boring, seriously. It had EVERYTHING to be awesome and epic, but only good things happened, and COME ON, we NEED conflicts, and fights, and drama, and crying, yelling and all those bad things that happen in books for the story to be thrilling and exciting. I was disappointed on this book, I expected more from it😔
I began reading this thinking, it's just another typical vampire romance novel, probably not worth the read. However, there was enough of a uniqueness to it that made it somewhat different than the usual stories. I found it to have a nice flow to the story and it wasn't as boring as I thought it would be. There were many aspects of Emilia's past that I could relate to in my own life, which made me feel a connection to the character. In the end, I found satisfaction reading this book and would recommend it to others as well.
I absolutely loved Adian and Emilia' story. It was romantic, funny and full of obstacles which made it an interesting read. I found myself laughing a lot while reading and then on the edge hoping their love could survive. I would definitely recommend this book if you like paranormal romance with some drama, romance and humor all rolled up. I enjoyed this story so much I will definitely check out the rest in the series.
I really struggled with how many stars to give this book on the one hand I thought it was just okay but on the other, I think that maybe vampire romance just isn’t my genre. In the end I went with 4 stars because even though I didn’t love it I see potential that others who like vampire romances might. The nitty gritty: it’s part of a series but a stand-alone so no cliffhanger. A HEA that works out well for everyone. A pretty quick read.
It was a good paranormal vampire story although did not have much suspense or gripping conflicts it was more of a love story. Kinda cheesy and Emilia’s character was very ordinary. Mark’s spontaneity and humor added a comic relief to the cliche romance. At least it was a happy ending for them.
Wow I am conflicted about this book and the only reason for it is because I thought Emilia sucked!! I mean she was good and full of life but gosh, so annoying and needy and honestly bratty? Like she couldn’t turn for Aiden? Are you serious?? He’s about to DIE for you...sheesh. Whatever, even with all this I enjoyed the book and I cannot wait for the second one!
Her husband has left her leaving her broken hearted and broke. She is barely making it when she gets an offer she cannot refuse. Becoming a blood donor for a vampire for five years and be paid for it. What if she starts to fall for him? Will they want more from it? See if it becomes more

Amelia and Aidan's love for each other was a whirlwind of a ride. I truly loved this book and I hope the author, Katherine Hastings can write another one giving her fans more insight to the love and bond that these two Characters share with each other. I'm ready for book two, but I also want books nine and ten, if possible.
I absolutely loved this book!! I couldn’t put it down! It had me laughing, smiling and even crying! The story and characters are brilliant and doesn’t disappoint! Already preordered the next one, just gotta wait till December!
