When Riley switches places with her twin sister and attends Desmond’s party to network, she never expects that her life will take a dramatic and dangerous turn. Suddenly, her life is in jeopardy, and Desmond, who has troubles of his own, is there to protect her.
Kidnapped along with two of his siblings as a child, Desmond is haunted by the fact that the kidnapper was never caught, and his father worked himself to death trying to solve the case. Now, it seems as if the past has resurfaced, and someone is threatening Desmond and his siblings again. On top of that, someone is targeting Riley. But why? Is Riley the target, or is it her identical twin?
Desmond is determined to help Riley and finds himself irresistibly drawn to her. Can they figure out who is wants them dead before it’s too late?
Identical Threat is a quick and suspenseful story with great characters and a wonderful romance. There are many twists and turns in the story, and, since Desmond and Riley both become immersed in dangerous situations, you never know exactly who is being targeted and when the antagonists will strike.
Riley and Jenna, both recently divorced, seem to be running from the past. Desmond’s past is resurfacing, and it appears that the person who kidnapped him as a child might be cause for concern. This makes for an exciting, nail-biting plot.
One of my favorite parts of the story is the wonderful depiction of family. Riley and Desmond have strong relationships with their siblings and their parents. Several family interactions throughout the story reinforce familial acceptance, support, and love. Riley and her sister have an amazing relationship, and Desmond acknowledges that Jenna and her son are part of the package if he commits to Riley. Riley, in turn, knows that Desmond’s large and boisterous family is a permanent fixture in his life. Their shared respect for family bonds and obvious love for their siblings brings them closer together.
Of course, I would be remiss if I didn’t talk about the romance. Desmond and Riley have fabulous chemistry. They are both intelligent, brave, and family-oriented. I like how they work as a team and have a deep respect for each other. They fit. Their light-hearted banter is endearing, and their love story is intense and passionate. I loved the scenes with action and romance, but I also loved the quiet scenes of watching Wheel of Fortune and eating dinner with loved ones. Their characters and relationship are well-developed and likable, and I found myself rooting for this couple.
Though this is the third book in the series, it can totally be read as a standalone. I didn’t read the first two, but the author provided enough context throughout the story so that I never felt confused or lost. That being said, I am definitely going to read the first two books in the series. I want to learn more about this fantastic family and the ongoing mystery that surrounds them. I really enjoyed Identical Threat, even though I hadn't read the other books in the series. I didn't need to read them in order to know what was happening in the life of the Nash triplets. The author did an excellent job of introducing the family members in a way that made you feel like you already knew them.
Riley Stone attends a gala event in place of her identical twin sister. (The reason for this was WEAK but I let it go because the rest of the book was so good). There she meets the man of the hour, Desmond Nash, a Nash triplet and philanthropist in Overlook, Tennessee. She's immediately taken with his good looks and charm, but when he disappears fairly quickly from the party, she decides to leave as well. On her way home, she's attacked by another partygoer while driving down the road. Dazed and confused, she runs from her vehicle and into the woods where she's rescued by Desmond and his sheriff brother Declan.
As the mystery deepens, Riley isn't sure if the people out there pulling the strings are after her or her sister Jenna. They both have ex-husbands with axes to grind, and they look so identical most people have a hard time telling them apart when they aren't together. This works in Riley's favor and against it throughout the book, but the one person who can tell them apart is Desmond.
Desmond has had his fair share of knocks against him in life. His childhood was anything but idyllic and all he wants is to help people with his new non-profit called Second Wind. When that business ends up wrapped up in the mystery of Riley and Jenna Stone, he isn't sure if it has something to do with them or something to do with a past monster who had tortured them and thus far escaped their grasp.
Riley and Desmond fall for each other more and more as each day passes and the danger ramps up. Men in Suits, ex-husbands, old grudges, and the almighty dollar are all wound together until Desmond, Riley, and Declan can't find where one ends and the other begins. All they know is, the last time the Men in Suits were involved in their lives, things went bad quickly, and this time would be no different. Except this time, Desmond and Declan were ready for them.
If you love a fast-paced intrigue set with the backdrop of a small town, cowboys, and a large loving family, then you'll love Identical Threat and the whole Winding Road Redemption series!

Clearly something is amiss and and now Riley's life is in danger when someone comes after her while shes pretending to be her twin sister. Desmond is on a mission to keep Riley safe at the risk of his heart but clearly someone wants her and the question is why.
If you like mystery suspense novel you're not gonna want to miss this. There was plenty going on to keep the readers on their toes with close calls and mishaps, the whole mystery of who is after her and why then theres the past and romance to keep things going. I really enjoyed myself reading this book and hardly was able to put this fast paced book down. If you are looking for something to escape into why not this book?

Part of the Winding Road Redemption series, in which twin Riley Stone goes to a party at Desmond Nash's home and is immediately thrown into a situation where someone tries to kill her. What is going on? Are they after her or her identical twin? And why? No one seems to know, but after another attempt also involves Riley's ex-husband, perhaps he's a clue that can't be ignored. On the other hand, maybe not.
The clues are confusing, but finally begin to make sense with yet another attack, but can Desmond or his law enforcement brothers figure things out in time?

This was my 1st Harlequin Intrigue book and I think I have found my niche with Harlequin books. I'd read a few Harlequin Teen books when I was younger, but haven't read many of them as an adult primarily because there's that stigma about Harlequin books being just about smut and no plot. This stigma is very wrong. This book was actually lower on the steamy scenes scale than that what I've read in other romance books, but it makes up for it in a very high stakes mystery. If you're looking for explicit or dirty romance scenes than this is not the Harlequin imprint for you (I'm now three books into this imprint and tame physical romance scenes seem to be a trend). If you grew up on Nancy Drew books, but also like the character development that comes with two characters falling in love than I recommend you give this imprint a try.
Identical Threat is the third book in the Winding Road Redemption series and the cast of characters page at the beginning of the book initially worried me as I wasn't sure what I was jumping into but the cast of characters page seems to be something that all HI books just seem to have. You can jump into this series at book 3 and the cliffhanger will make you want to pick up book 4 right away because you will want answers to the overarching mystery that ties all the books together but reading the other books first might help you pick up on a few clues to the over arching mystery quicker. I didn't love how this book started out, but once I was a few chapters in I was hooked. The insta "in love with the siren at the party" bit just wasn't doing it for me, at least not when it's the very first thing on the page practically. Once the action kicks in the book comes into its own and was a good read but the first 2 or 3 chapters were a little rough for me.

The Nash family has been through some huge challenges. This is the third book in the series about the final Nash triplet, Desmond Nash. He meets Riley Stone at a party while posing as her sister, Jenna. Some unforeseen events happen and this bring them together. There's action, mystery, and family bonds that keeps this book in your hands for hours! The final book in the series, "Last Stand Sheriff" has been released. Check it out!!

This was so propulsive and fun! The romance was okay (they were fine, but I didn't feel like I got enough of them to get really invested) but the action was great. The reveals and tension were fantastic throughout. The bits of the overarching plot were very intriguing. I want to read the other books in the series now.

August 7, 2020Who are Desmond and Riley? What about Jenna, Madi, Brett, James, Declan, and Caleb? What happens as Riley heads home one day for Jenna's baking? What happens when a lie comes to light? How does that change the tone of the book? What does the comment about hide-and-seek mean? Who are Evan and Ryan? Why do we find Evan at Second Wind, rather than running from it? Who is the man in the suit? What is the deal with the scorpion tattoo? OH my goodness, two different issues/events that meet up in the middle of this book almost caused me to fall out of my chair. What was happening and why? How did the past play a part? Read and see!

Solid romantic suspense story, with lots of action and good pacing. I've not read the earlier books in the series and that made it hard to keep minor characters straight. There were a couple of times when the heroine was smart, but not as smart as she could have been. For exemple - The bigger problem, though, was that I never felt like I knew the MCs. They remained characters on a page, not real people. So, good but not great.
