He’s home to recover, not fall for a younger man … Blaze’s time in the military unraveled him, but now he’s knitting himself back together one stitch at a time. He needs to focus on recovery, not the young omega he finds himself doting over.
Logan is back home to lick his wounds, not the hot older alpha who just happens to be his landlady’s grandson. He can see the cracks in Blaze’s armor, and he wants to squeeze his way in, but the ex-soldier has more defenses than a military base.
Until an ill-timed heat changes everything …
Blaze’s demons are a tangled mess he may never fully recover from. Can he really expect an omega who could have anyone to settle for him? Or is the only way to protect Logan to let him go?
Thoroughly charming, 100% adorable, I smiled the whole way through Austin Bates’ wonderfully romantic novel Unarmed.
These characters! Funny and sweet, with just the cutest way of talking, Logan is a self-assured omega with plenty of spunk. Spunky enough to put up with Blaze and all his issues, that is. Home from a mission which killed everyone in his unit, Blaze has some things to work through. As an initial form of therapy, Blaze takes up the knitting needles and finds knitting to be a wonderful distraction. With the support and love of his family and friends (and a new relationship with the adorable Logan) Blaze finds what he needs to start the road to recovery.
Images of these big, burly alphas sitting in a knitting circle and helping each other with their projects is one of the best things I can imagine, and Austin Bates paints a wonderful picture.
I always enjoy Austin Bates’ tales. They have a way of writing that is just completely engrossing, and I find their novels hard to put down. Unarmed is the first book in their new Knitting Club series, and I can’t wait to get the rest of these alphas’ tales!
a copy of Unarmed was provided to me for the purpose of my honest review
A lovely story which is detailed and entertaining. Blaze is back in his home town, Burnt Hill, after getting an honourable discharge from active duty after being injured and is now living with his grandmother. Logan is also living with his grandmother in Burnt Hill, after finding his boyfriend in bed with their friend. The grandmother’s join forces to get the two men together. Blaze and Logan are more than willing. At every and any opportunity.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
While I enjoyed the beginning of this book the last 50% really drained any enjoyment I was having. It’s not that it was awful, the writing was still good but the characters went completely flat and I was really hoping for more...
The “reconciliation”??? A big snooze fest... I mean why make such a big fuss about their issues if you’re going to breeze over them and not give us any meat with the potatoes?!?! I love meat and potatoes.
I found it to be a little to sappy, not how men I know would speak/react.
It felt like there wasn't enough story either, it moved really fast, but no real reason the men connected, no similar interests or activites, no similar personalities or history.
I also felt like the ending was ridiculous, no one would go into labor and a few minutes later deliver. That was ridiculous and so far beyond unrealistic.
Also. How were they able to afford a house and baby and furniture? One didn't have a reliable job and the other had no job at all.
I felt the PTSD could have had a ton more storyline, but it was kind of glossed over as well.
It also needed some editing, grammer and non finished sentences were annoying.
It wasn't awful, but it had the potential to be so much more.
Maybe I wasn't in the mood for mpreg right now. Maybe just my mood. Or maybe I'm getting too old for this sub-genre (or not) Maybe it was just me. Maybe it's the book that didn't really grip my attention. It was, somehow and okay story, adorable and cute. But I read it as slow as kindergarten kids. Not a good sign. Maybe next time?
Leave it to me to not pay attention to the blurb. I was a bit surprised when this became an Alpha/Omega story, but it was a welcome surprise. I always love a self lubricating butt and MPREG so...haha!
Cute, frustrating, a little over the top and a lot unrealistic but I'll keep reading as they are released.
The knitting is a super cool touch.
Hopefully the "Granny Brigade" doesn't get any more nutty than they already are. I am so over the crazy old ladies that seem to be a thing these days.
Imagine a big, strong man. Ex-soldier with PTSD. And now imagine him sitting on his grandma sofa and knitting. That is exactly what is happening here. The story is super sweet, extra cute and very predictable. Austin Bates writes easy reads without much drama and they are always perfect for a fast read during commuting to work/home.
Uncomplicated, sexy and cute :)
*i was gifted an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review *
this was adorable and as a crocheter (not a knitter haha) it was fun to read about.. it made me smile.. and at times super sad. i enjoyed this and cant wait for the next story to come out!
Blaze was the only one who made it out alive. He couldn’t understand where Sawyer was as he relived the drowning in the water and the surgeons working on him. Now he was in Georgia, sitting on Granny Harper’s couch and ignoring the pings of his phone. Burnt Hill and everything in it seemed frozen in time. Granny may be sweet, kind, and soft-hearted, but she wasn’t a pushover and had brought him home to stay with her as soon as he was honorably discharged. Nothing he said would change her mind. And when he continued to lie around listlessly, she made him sit beside her and handed him a box. Inside was knitting materials and she was going to teach him to knit, to create something instead of thinking of ways to rip himself apart. No amount of arguing made a difference.
Logan was walking back home from the theatre. He had already lined up in his mind what the next big thing would be. He just needed to check with Jacob. He and Jacob had been together for a while and talked about bonding. Logan was ready to make a home with someone. Would Jacob let him take the part while also preparing to settle down now? But then he scented an omega. That made no sense. Walking into the apartment and opening the bedroom door, his alpha Jacob and their friend Michael were together and, from the look of what they were doing, they would be bonded forever. He was done here and was going home to Burnt Hill.
While Blaze is recovering from the PTSD after being wounded in battle, his Granny starts the healing process as he learns how to knit. Logan returns home to mend his broken heart after his alpha’s betrayal. But both of them are truly in good hands as Granny and Logan's Nana begin implementing their plans to bring their grandsons together.
This book is heart-warming as they try to piece their lives together again with some grandmotherly assistance. Granny, Nana and the other characters brought a chuckle as the people who care about them most won’t let them drift away in pain. People are amazing, especially when they love you.
A great new series from Austin Bates that gives us alpha and omegas coming together, making a connection and working towards their HEA, with a little help from some meddling grannies. Two men have returned home to Burnt Hill, a little broken inside. Blaze is home from the war after being injured and losing friends/comrades, and Logan is back with a broken heart after finding the alpha he planned to bond with in a compromising situation with a "friend". For Blaze, his Granny is amazing, bringing him back to her home and loving on him as much as he needs but is also happy to drag him out of his funk with a lesson in knitting. The therapeutic benefits of the activity come to light and though amusing to think of a big, tough alpha knitting but it makes it so much hotter! Logan especially seems to think so. The men's grannies are a meddling pair, at times subtle and sometimes not in bringing these two together when they are in need of, at minimum, a friend. Emotions are pulled on throughout the book. Whilst there are several low moments for Blaze and Logan, separately and together, they have good times with their friends and love is in abundance when around family. I enjoyed the interactions that everyone had, never afraid to push when needed or give a hug at the right time. Blaze and Logan's relationship develops slowly, even with the time spent together during Logan's heat, with Blaze's reluctance to share about his time in the war and the possibility of hurting Logan. The development between characters and their relationships were well written by the author and I'm looking forward to more from the secondary characters in the series with two men looking likely for a possible HEA. I really enjoyed the story overall and recommend for fans of the author and non shifter mpreg. I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.
What a great start to a series. I am eagerly awaiting the next book. I was drawn in to this world from the first pages. The characters grabbed me & wouldn't let go. There are great family dynamics, loyal friends, scheming old ladies, steamy sexual tension, and a long journey to HEA that includes knitting with more than yarn. I love this book! Trigger: there are episodes of PTSD. They are handled with dignity and are in no way offensive. When a mission kills his team, including his best friend, Blaze is gravely injured. Honorably discharged, he returns home to stay with his only family, his Granny. Plagued by PTSD, he is struggling. But Granny knows best. She teaches him to knit, which calms him. Then he meets Logan. The attraction is as immediate as it is intense. Logan moved back home to start over, living on his Nana's couch. Needing his own space, and not just because his Nana snores, he rents a room at Blaze's Granny's. Logan is intrigued by the knitting alpha, and is drawn to him. Once Blaze and Logan realize they have been manipulated by the Granny Brigade, things heat up. With the help of good friends, and the "Brigade" they will reach their HEA. The road isn't smooth, is often funny, is constantly evolving. More that just yarn is knitted. "Broken" men are also knitted back together. You will love this book! This book contains adult themes and language, mm sex and is intended for mature readers only.
Austin Bates' Unarmed is the first book in the Knitting Club mpreg series. And yes, it actually revolves around a knitting club. I love it. The idea is great and the execution even better.
Blaze is a man drowning in his PTSD nightmare since leaving the military. Meanwhile Logan is back in town after being cheated on by his ex. Add in two meddling grandmothers and let the fun begin.
The way they come together is delightful. Their developing feelings are wonderful, with sizzling chemistry.
Their story has some heat, emotions, and humor. It's a mix of struggles and healing. The use of knitting to help relieve stress is spectacular and the author does a great job with this aspect.
The writing is fun and fluid with interesting characters. The side characters are intriguing and add immensely to the storyline.
The PTSD is written in a careful manner, illustrating the power one's past pain has on their lives. Blaze is clearly shown to be living in the shadows of his former life.
Unarmed is sweet and tender, with a fantastic ending. This Austin Bates omegaverse story is perfect when you're in the mood for a feel-good romance. I am definitely looking forward to the rest of the series.
Blaze is recovering from his last tour after being discharged from the military. Hes staying with his Nanna and her idea of him dealing with his stress is to teach him how to knit and to hook him up with someone. But his PTSD has him stressed out and miserable now his Nanna has decided to rent out her spare room to a friend of hers Grandson.
Logan has moved back home from Atlanta after his love life took a bad turn just when hes ready to commit he finds his Alpha in a very compromising position but once back things aren't going so well his living in his Nanna cramped apartment looking for work and a place to stay and dealing with heartache not to mention his ex wont stop calling. But when Blaze and Logan meet its cute and steamy and awkward from there it only gets more hilarious then Logan gets his heat thers no staying away from each other then especially when it leads to some life changing event. They both have to work threw things emotional bagage stress and loss from combat but they will get there with the help of two Scheming Nannas and there Love for each other.

I liked it.
Within a certain classification of books (not creating expectations/shallow), this one is ok. I've read a few books by Aiden Bates, some good, some terrible, but only now have I found the books by Austin Bates, this being my first book by the author.
It needs a general review (which won't happen). Despite my rating, I noticed several details that bothered me while reading. Repetitions being one of them. Some authors like to drag the story along, even when they have nothing more to add. Some get it right, but others end up just repeating themselves and getting bogged down in the same theme, trying to give more meaning to a certain event than it actually has, to make the book longer. This only makes the reading experience worse. Another point that bothered me was the ending. I hate it when the author drags the book out to the point of pain and when it gets to the end, they just run over everything and end it.
Even with my dislikes, I maintain my rating. I liked the pair. I liked the aspects and themes addressed in the book, even though it wasn't the best read, it wasn't bad at all, it managed to keep me hooked and it was relaxing.
Dual POV. Blaze and Logan. Alpha/Omega. PTSD. Cheating Ex. Small Town. Retired Military. Trauma. Anxiety. Coming Back. Heat/Knot. Meddling Family. Group of Friends. Unexpected Pregnancy. Starting Over. ETC. Low Anguish. No violence. No action or suspense.
I enjoyed reading this fascinating Mpreg romance & it is a really splendid start to a new series. The plot is well-written & intriguing with emotional complexities & unavoidable situations. The main characters are interesting & likeable with unique personalities. There is good support from the secondary characters. There is: a rather defensive ex-military older alpha male (Blaze) is trying to recover from his time spent in the forces & takes up knitting with his Grandmother & later comes into contact with a young male omega (Logan) with some bad memories of betrayal & decides to ignore him then the situation changes, caring but scheming Grandmothers (Granny Harper & Nana), Logan’s cheating ex-boyfriend (Jacob), some twists, memories, intrigue, drama, some humor, attractions, friendship, caring friends, denial, heat issues, desperation, confrontations, rejection, realization, advice, manipulations, determination, realization, doubts, romance, love, contentment, & a delightful, satisfying conclusion. I would recommend this MM romance to people who enjoy reading this genre.
4.5☆ Great start to the series! This book focuses on Blaze and Logan who, for different reasons, are back in their hometown to heal and regroup. This story is fast paced and well written, the gravity of some situations are compensated by the levity sprinkled throughout and the genuine connection between the characters. There are a lot of ups and downs, trials and triumphs, setbacks and healing, a rollercoaster of emotions, and characters that are relatable and likeable. The connection between the main characters is real and the secondary characters add a good balance to the story, especially the Granny Brigade who are the lovable, determined schemers! Blaze and Logan have a slow building romance that leads to steamy passion, genuine love, and a satisfying HEA. I would definitely recommend this book and I cannot wait to see who will be the main couple in the next book and follow the progress of the knitting club.

Sometimes, the one you think you love, is just an appetizer. Blaze was wounded in combat and lives with his Granny while he finds his center and balance. He is suffering from PTSD. Granny teaches him to knit. He took to it comfortably and found it calming. Logan returns after finding his fiance, Jacob in bed with his best friend Michael a fellow Omega. He is an actor and since Jacob's dad has influence in the theatre, his opportunities mysteriously dried up. His granny and Blaze's granny have a public hate to hate relationship but conspire to get their grandsons toggether. Logan moves in with Blaze's granny even though they are 'aware' of each other. The two men are the walking wounded trying to heal themselves. Maybe a relationship will facilitate them healing each other! Can the guyslearn to trust each other? Can they trust themselves? Will the grannies get caught? Both are nice characters. Their grandmothers are hysterical. Nice story, well done! I received an ARC from Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Watch out for the Granny Brigade. Blaze Harper is a broken alpha, a survivor of an military ambush resulting in the death of his omega buddy and close friend Sawyer; a friendship as beautiful and as tragic as Sawyer's death. He's returned to Burnt Hill, GA to stay under the protective wing of his Granny Harper not matter how much he doesn't want to cuz where else can he go. Little does he realize that Granny's close rival (that Watson woman) aka/Betty were both burdened with similar grandsons. You see Betty has a broken omega Logan Potter, an actor, who came back to Burnt Hill licking his heart's wounds when his so-called alpha Jacob "accidentally" to their mutual (?) friend Michael. Aha! The plot thickens as knitting is woven in as stress relief to this story as a balm to heal emotional scars suffered by Blaze and his fellow soldier friends. Therapeutic means to a HEA for Blaze and Logan and the segue into the stories of the other retired soldiers: JP, Jonesy, Neo. I got this book from LesCourt Art Team for my honest review.
Unarmed is the first book in the Knitting Club by author Austin Bates. This book is written in dual POV one of my favorite POVs because it allows me to really get into the story. Blaze: saved from a smoke explosion. His friend did not make it. He was a solider. He is now back home in Georgia. Once he got out of the hospital he was no longer fit for duty. Honorably discharged. 35 years old and felt ashamed to be coming home to live with his grandmother. He has PSTD and just wants to wallow for a while. I love that his granny teaches him to knit. Logan thought he was going to have forever with his boyfriend. He was even planning to marry him, that is until he found him in bed knotted to his best friend. He decided to go home he was broke and had no other options. I loved the humor, love, and the feels in this book. It has a lot of layers and a I really enjoyed exploring it. I hope there is more in this series in the future. I would love to read it.
After being wounded during his time in the military Blaze returns home to try and heal physically and mentally. He’s having a hard time stitching himself back together until his Granny teaches him how to knit. Blaze thought that knitting is for grandmas but soon he discovers how calming it is. His calm is short lived once he meets Logan.
Logan comes back home after discovering his alpha in bed with one of their closest friends. He needs a fresh start. The last thing on his mind is finding someone new but when he meets his landlady’s grandson he soon discovers that Blaze is hard to resist.
Blaze has demons he needs to face and Logan needs to untangle his life. Both need to realize they’re exactly what the other needs.
This book was a great start to the series. If the introduction of the other characters is any indication this is going to be one highly entertaining series. Can’t wait to unravel the shenanigans.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
An alpha who knits and was recently discharged from the army who may have a meddling granny. An omega who recently found out his ex in a compromising position with a mutual and may also have a meddling nana.
The two men are nothing alike but neither can deny the pull between one another.
Whew, I wasn’t expecting this book to be as scorching but also as endearing as it was. Blaze and Logan set the sheets on fire but also provided such softness that made me so happy when things finally feel into place — even if it took the two men to finally realize some things before that could happen. I’m looking forward to this series just from the glimpse of all the side characters this book provided.
If a book involving big, strong alphas who knit, first time knotting with mpreg and yes meddling grandmothers sounds like something you’d be into — here’s one for you.
Terrific start to the series. Logan and Blaze have trauma from their past to overcome. Logan has to learn to trust after being betrayed. Blaze has to learn how to live a life after devastating loss. His anger and PTSD symptoms hit the mark. I liked that Logan sees the reasons behind Blaze's behavior even before he knows all the details. It was even better when Blaze was willing to seek professional help. Both guys trip over misunderstandings and preconceptions before reaching a HEA. I thoroughly enjoyed the meddling 'granny brigade' and look forward to getting to know the other guys in the knitting club better. Recommended author
Audiobook: The narrator did a decent job overall, my only issue was the quality of the sound. Most of the time it sounded like he was inside a box. There are a few editing issues with repeated phrases, etc. All of these problems I would place at the feet of the production company, not the author or the narrator.
This is a wonderful start to a new series. I love this book and couldn't put it down. Blaze and Logan both find themselves back in Burnt Hill for very different reasons. After Blaze returns home, to recover, from being wounded in battle his Granny starts to teach him how to knit to help him with his PTSD. Logan returns home after finding his alpha with another. I love Blaze's Granny and Logan's Nana in their attempts to bring the two men together. And the end was so sweet, I cried happy tears. I love this idea of having a knitting club, it looks like it could be good for all of them. I can't wait to read more stories from this group of friends, there's definitely something more going on with Charlie. I highly recommend this book. It's definitely one to enjoy again and again.

This is the touching story of Logan and Blaze. Logan is moving back to his hometown after finding his live-in boyfriend in bed with another man. He needs to find a better place to stay than his grandmother's couch. Blaze is back home after being injured in the military. His grandmother insisted to help him get back on his feet. What neither one of them realizes is that both grandmothers have something up their sleeves. Logan is invited to move in with Blaze and his grandmother. When Blaze meets Logan for the first time, he is caught up in his sent. How will the new living arrangements work? The characters are sweet, complex and determined. The storyline is emotional, suspenseful and filled with ups and downs. A great read.

This was a great beginning. Blaze is back from the Marines with PTSD. He's living at his Granny's house and not doing great. Logan found his long-time lover in bed and bonded with a mutual friend and went back to his hometown to stay with his Nana. Both men have some serious hurt to overcome and meddling grandmothers aren't gonna let them wallow. Granny insists Blaze learns to knit to relieve stress and tension, and it works. The Granny Brigade finds ways to "arrange" meetings and joint chores for the guys, until it works and they become involved. I loved Blaze's attitude with Logan's insecurities and turns his excuses right back on him. I am anxiously and excitedly awaiting Neo's story. Do not miss this one. I requested an advanced reader copy from Booksprout and am under no obligation to leave this review.
