Excerpt

The girl from the field comes crashing through the rosehips. The thorns are tugging at her clothes and leaving bloody scratches on her arms, yet the girl doesn’t seem to pay notice. She just stumbles out onto the lawn with stiff, staggering steps.

The face of the girl leaves Selina speechless. Her messy hair can’t hide the greenish hue dominating the skin nor the milky white eyes which belong to a dead fish rather than a teenage girl. The gaze is fixed on one of the girls who is standing with her back to the rosehips only a few yards away.

“Selina?” Dad asks, pulling her back. “What’s wrong?”

Selina lifts her arm and points.

Allan has already turned his head to look. “Shit!” he exclaims, spinning on his heel and running to the hallway.

“Allan!” Soren exclaims, getting up from the table. “What are you doing?”

But Allan doesn’t answer, and a second later the front door slams.

Selina is still pointing and staring at the window, unable to move or speak, trapped as though in a nightmare, everything suddenly moving painfully slow. She sees the girl who’s got to be Jennie Nygaard descend upon the girl; it looks most of all like a clumsy embrace, causing both of them to fall to the grass. For a few seconds, they scramble around.

Then the girl screams. This time, it’s a genuine scream. A scream of pain and fear.

“What the heck?” Dad says. “What’s she doing? Is that the girl you guys are—”

“Stay in here,” Soren commands, running through the living room and opening the terrace door. Dad follows him.

Selina still can’t move. Events seem to speed up again, reaching an unnatural pace. She sees and hears everything from the window, which is ajar.

Jennie Nygaard is sitting astride the girl who is still screaming, now in very shrill, batlike tones. Jennie Nygaard throws back her head, and Selina sees the bloody chunk between her teeth. It disappears quickly out of sight, as the teenager gulps it down and promptly bends down for another bite.

Wow Nick! Great job. I read this practically in one sitting. We are introduced to some new characters as the battle to stop the zombie virus from spreading continues. This one starts out dark at a child’s birthday party and yes, he goes there. Then we meet up with a familiar character. After this point, the intensity stays at a 10. It was impossible to put down. I can’t wait to read the next one.

Zombies. A missing girl, Jennie Nygaard. A bloody bite.

Selena, a young girl with big courage.

Allen, a cop who saw the truth.

Dan, my favorite character and brother of Jennie, knows what’s happening.

Nick Clausen gives us lots of gruesome violence and tons of action.

There’s a moment in time when in could have been stopped…but what’s the fun in that?

The saying about courage overcoming fear is pertinent to Dan. Does the world rest on his shoulders and his refusal to quit?

Nick Clausen does not hesitate to kill off his characters, regardless of how good they are, so be careful who you choose as your favorite.

As we know from Dead Meat: Day 1, Dan, despite his best effort did not stop the zombie virus(?), curse(?) I'm not sure what this really is, to be honest. Day two shows the zombies spreading. It is quite enjoyable watching the disaster unfolding in real time. And for those who read my review of the first book, Dead Meat Day 0 was available at Nick Clausen's website so I will get to see how this whole thing actually started, although I have been able to sus out the basics just from reading the first three books.

This review is also featured on Behind the Pages: Dead Meat Day 2

They thought it was the end, they saved humanity. Until Dan realizes he forgot one zombie, and she’s broken free. Dan’s the only one left willing to kill the zombie, but he has no idea where she’s gone and it only takes a single scratch to spread. Meanwhile, Selena sees a strange person approaching her house. And she won’t realize until it’s too late, that the person is no longer alive.

The Dead Meat series is a refreshing take on the zombie apocalypse. Instead of jumping into a world already ravaged by zombies, or an overall mystery of how it all began, Nick Clausen takes you to the beginning. Day 1 explained their origins. Now welcome to Dead Meat Day 2 where Dan and Selena hunt down zombies to prevent the actual apocalypse from happening. It’s a task that should seem easy, after all the zombies are slow and unintelligent. But readers will quickly realize a single wrong move can cause a snowball effect of tragedy that two teenagers will struggle to rectify.

Written into the character’s stories are the emotions and challenges faced when they come to terms with what they must do. Dan may have killed zombies before, but it’s not easy, especially when the zombie is one of your own family members. And let’s face it, we’re only on day two. Selena is in a similar situation, but she still holds a shred of hope the people who are infected won’t turn. Until the realization strikes her that there is no saving the ones infected. And as emotional as these two characters are, mistakes are made.

Dead Meat Day 2 is just as gripping as Day 1. There is no time wasted and it jumps straight into the action. Readers will be swept up in the two teenagers' desperate journey. Racing from place to place, building the tension up with each moment. If you enjoy zombie stories, pick this series up!

Dead Meat: Day 2 is the second book in Nick Clausen’s “The End of the World One Day At a Time” zombie series. The first book revealed the dark beginnings of this horror story and Day 2 takes us further into the horrors that unfold as the virus/disease spreads one human at a time. The apocalypse is coming, and it’s spreading quickly because of the fact that so many refuse to believe what is happening simply because for them…it is “too far-fetched.”
Originally when I started reading this book I was expecting the story to pick up with the original characters from the first book. I knew that their story wasn’t finished yet, but the author takes a different path and one that I applaud him for. He introduces us to new characters and points out this one solid fact – the end waits for no one, and the one who “got away” is out there and hungry. We get old and new characters in this book, and the story takes a sinister twist again and again. Selina and her family are the newest ones to be thrown into this encroaching darkness. I like the way the author weaves together this zombie story. You think that certain characters will do what is necessary…what they KNOW they must…but then they do the unthinkable. There is one particular twist that I both love and hate. Haha! I love it because it creates a new “branch” and I hate it because it uses a being that I love and adore. LOL! But it totally works and is, in all honesty, an angle that isn’t used often in zombie stories.
If I had to point out anything that I didn’t like about this book…I honestly couldn’t point anything out to you. While I wish on one hand that there was someone else who believed “blindly” I understand that this story moves forward based on the ignorance of the world and that “this isn’t a movie and so it can’t be true.” This makes this story, while a fictitious novel, all the more realistic in its own element. Because honestly you can all too clearly see the world turning a blind eye to what is happening.
I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. It’s gripping from beginning to end, and while it ends on a mild cliffhanger, I am eager for the next chapter in this series. I can only anticipate the breakout that is about to shock the town and countryside as the devastation that is happening becomes more than what they can handle. If you like zombie stories and watching things unfold a day at a time, then this is a series to grab up and start reading. If you read the first book and enjoyed it as much as I did then grab this one and prepare for the devastation to unfold.

What a great continuation of the zombie apocalypse!

Day 2 of Dead Meat centers around a young woman named Selina. At her little sister Louisa's birthday party, chaos erupts. When Selina steps up courageously, she finds that zombies are real. Can she stop the spread, or is it already too late?

It's rare that I like a sequel more than I do the first book in a series, but I have to say, this was my favorite book so far in the Dead Meat series.

The main reason behind that is most likely the setting and Selina's perspective. Selina is a brave, smart young woman. She not overly emotional and doesn't spend a ton of time questioning things, something I think is pretty rare for a teenager these days. She steps up when it counts, and it really sets the story in motion. I will say I would've liked to know more about why she is such a courageous kid or if there was an inciting incident in her past that made her this way, but overall she is a great heroine.

We also get to see some other familiar faces in this book, but the focus is primarily on Selina, and I enjoyed that.

As always, the writing was done very well and was fluid. I blazed through this entire book in three short sessions.

I love me a good plot, and the setting was perfect for this book. I'm not sure why I was so crazy about a little girl's birthday party as the setting for tragedy and why it worked so well, but it did. I was hooked from the first page and didn't want to stop. I liked where the adventure took us and was grateful that there was less emphasis on the setting and events of Day 0 and what happened there. Pacing was great, and there was never a dull moment, which only spurred me on faster.

This was a wonderful part of the series, and I can't wait to read what happens next!

In Dead Meat: Day 2, the zombie outbreak has begun to spin out of control but thanks to two teenagers, they are trying their best to control the outbreak.

Can the virus be stopped before it becomes a full blown epidemic?

Full Disclosure: I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This did not affect my rating in any way.

In Dead Meat: Day 1, we saw the beginning of the zombie outbreak. While Dan did his best to prevent the situation from leaving the single house where the outbreak began, they forgot about his sister, Jennie, who had been infected and was still in the basement…

In Day 2, we meet a teenager named Selina who has awoken to see a figure stumbling toward their back yard where a birthday party is happening. As police arrive at the house to ask about a teenager named Jennie Nygaard that has gone missing, Selina goes to warn them that Jennie is approaching their back yard, but that something isn’t right. Before the police can take proper action, Jennie attacks one of the children…

From there, we’re off and running with brutal intensity.

Day 2 seemed much more violent than Day 1 to me. This one reminded me more of The Walking Dead with the darkness of it, so of course, I absolutely loved it!

I love watching this storyline slowly unfold, but I’m also very antsy to see what happens on Day 3!

My Favorite Passage:
Selina is still pointing and staring at the window, unable to move or speak, trapped as though in a nightmare, everything suddenly moving painfully slow.

My Final Thoughts:
This was such a suspenseful tale! Once you pick it up and start reading, you won’t want to put it down.

I highly recommend this one, but make sure to read Day 1 first! And stay tuned, Day 3 will be out in December!

The story opens with Dan desperately trying to find his infected sister Jennie so he can take her out before she infects anybody else and causes a zombie apocalypse to happen but in the meantime Jennie has stumbled upon a kids birthday party and all heck breaks lose from there! So Day 2 pretty much carries on with the action we came to enjoy from the first day plus carries us thru a few heartache moments and yet again leaves us with another cliff hanger just like the first day.

I still feel like I enjoyed the first book the best but this one had it's Wow moments for sure! I totally want to carry on into the next day to see where this cliff hanger goes from here.

Just as good as "day zero and day one". This man has got be the best horror writer of this decade. The detail and the instant and constant action from the first paragraph to the last word. I love it!!!

He gets five stars because it's not easy finding a zombie book that is all zombie attacks. Their the best part of a zombie novel. But you rarley find one that doesn't over narrate and over focus on talking up that one character and the person they fall for. This book will make u fall in love with a character and mourn them all in one chapter. If u don't read this series it's your loss....that I assure u....

Writing this review while reading the fourth book, and I have to say, Day 2 is probably the weakest in the series so far. Given how the story has progressed, this book feels somewhat unnecessary—Day 1 could have easily led straight into the third book. That said, it’s still a fun, quick read with a mix of new and returning characters. The twist is obvious as soon as it happens, but it’s well executed.

Dan is trying to stop this disease from spreading and every time he thinks he's got it, something more pops up. His sister has taken off and he needs to find her. But what he finds instead are a few cops that got caught up in this mess. And while one of the cops has figured things out, it doesn't mean he played his hand wisely, and so the madness continues.

Dead Meat Day 2 picks off where Day 1 left off, right in the middle of the action. There's a bit less "horror cheese factor" in this one, and I think it's an interesting change. But the scenes are gruesome and what you expect to happen during a budding zombie apocalypse. I appreciated that the kids weren't immune to what they had to do, that it wasn't just senseless killing. Another well-written, edge of your seat thriller from Clausen. I'm looking forward to continuing this story with Day 3.

What’s the best entertainment for a seven year old’s birthday party? Why a zombie hungry for human flesh, of course. Day 2 of Nick Clausen’s Dead Meat series ramps the comedy up to 11. I think these books would make a fantastic comedy drama series, each book being one episode I would like it made in Denmark too, please. It may be foolish to say this about a zombie horror comedy, but some of the characters actions in this installment stretched my suspension of disbelief to breaking point. Not quite as good as Day 1, I still enjoyed the second book in the series, and look forward to how Day 3 is going to pan out. Will there be some zombie animals? I’m hoping for a Bokor to appear before Day 7.

The story starts with a bang. While Dan is thinking about his infected sister, Jennie, and worrying about whether he locked the cellar or not, Jennie stumbles upon a child's birthday party.

I really enjoy the action as Dan, and now Selina, try to stop the zombie apocalypse from happening. They need to be better at killing zombies if they have a chance of stopping the spread (i'm looking at you Selina). After that ending, I can't wait for Day 3.

Synopsis:

Day two, the outbreak has begun. Dan is trying to find his infected before she brings an apocalypse down on to mankind. However, the infected Jennie has already stumbled upon a birthday party and soon all hell begins to break lose. The end of the world suddenly becomes more likely.

Review:

After reading Dead Meat Day 1 I was left with mixed feelings, however I can safely say Day 2 has now drawn me in completely to the point I finished the book in less than half an hour. The author does a fantastic job at starting his stories off with a bang and this was no different for this read, we had action right from the get go.

I like how the author has put a map at the beginning of the book to show where the infected are and I’m looking forward to seeing how the infected spread in the future days to come. I also appreciated how easy Day 1 and Day 2 came together, the story just fell into place and came together with ease.
From page one the story had action and was fast paced, which fits perfectly in with a zombie apocalypse as this usually tends to happen rapidly.

I was able to connect with the characters in book 2 and I enjoyed their story. The chapters were short and snappy and move the story along perfectly.
I really enjoy how the author is telling a story a day at a time, it is fun and creative! We are also left on a cliff-hanger once more, again a clever thing to do because I am now left waiting and wanting to read book 3! Well done Nick Clausen you’re writing style is truly to be admired.

This book starts after Day 1 ends as would seem logical. You could get away with just reading Day 2 but would be so much better if you do read Day 1 first. I felt pulled into the story right away and was curious how this one would play out. There was some surprises I was not expecting. Now I don’t usually read horror or stories with gore in it and this did have both. Yet I really enjoyed it and want to keep seeing what is going to happen next. I did expect the one thing that did happen but I had to wait and see how the author brought it into play and to me he wanted you to feel that way. It did end at a point that was more cliffhanger like but at that time I was like okay that worked well and with all that happened I was ready to catch my breath. I will be waiting to see how Day 3 will play out. I did receive an ARC for an honest review but I will also probably buy this one as one I could actually see myself rereading at a future date. Which for me as I am a chicken says a lot.

This is the next book in the Dead Meat series from Danish author Nick Clausen. It is a gritty, hyper-realistic story that gives a day-by-day account of the zombie apocalypse.

In answer to the question I had from book 1, there are a couple of surviving characters from that book that are part of book 2 – we’ll have to see how many days they survive going forward. In this book, the number of people infected by zombie bites or scratches is still manageable. The question is whether the people with knowledge of the outbreak and who grasp the nature of it will be able to stop its spread. Spoiler: they can not.

I gave Dead Meat – Day 2 four stars on Goodreads. I still recommend it to anyone who enjoys horror novels, zombie novels in particular. I have remainder of the first 8 volumes on hold at the library, with the final Day 9 either just recently released or soon to be released. FYI, I joined the author’s fan club at his website and have already received a couple of free ebooks from him.

DEAD MEAT: DAY TWO introduces new characters, which slows the pace down a little, but not much. I’m still enjoying the pacing of the virus’s spread; it’s steady, not slow or fast, and I expect it to accelerate as the disease branches out. There’s a clever moment where someone unwittingly becomes a vector. It’s easy to miss, but DAY ONE taught readers to look for those seemingly innocuous moments where someone can become infected without realizing it, and I felt clever for noticing this one.

In fact, the spread is my favorite part of the story so far. It’s meticulously plotted, and reminds me of how the superflu jumped from one person, to two, to four, to dozens in Stephen King’s THE STAND. That happened mostly in a single chapter, and that chapter was my favorite. So far, the Dead Meat books are channeling that energy, and I’m enjoying it. (The author of Dead Meat, Nick Clausen, says he grew up reading King, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s wearing that influence on his sleeve.)

Jennie from the block has wandered into someone's yard and attacks and infects two people. The scene is all too familiar with the Walking Dead and I'm just over it. You'd think by now people would know how to kill a zombie. I mean it isn't that hard. Zombies are slow and stupid so taking their head off or stabbing them in the head is what the situation calls for. However, Selene just knows how to torment me by not doing it properly. UGH! It killed me to watch her think she had killed her friend Jonas who was infected! Slashing his wrist and sticking a plastic bag over his head is not going to kill a Zombie Selene! I don't know what sucks worse: unbelieving humans or incapable kids.
No. Just no.
I want to see badass humans kick zombie butt!...and finally, win the war. Mmk?

oh, and what's up with the scorching heatwave? Is that because of the infected?

Dead Meat Day 2 describes the second day of the zombie apocalypse adventure Dan finds himself in. He searches for his zombie sister, who meanwhile crashed a childs birthday party and infected a little girl and two police officers. One of them flees and infects more people. Will he and the newly introduced main character Selina be able to stop the virus from spreading further? Or will small details destroy their plan?

The second book in the Dead Meat series is even better than the first one! I read it in one session as I couldn't put it down! I just love how Nick Clausen plays with the typical zombie story stereotypes and builds in small details that unveil during the book. If you loved day one you have to continue the series, it's worth it!!
