A sweet opening to yet another series of Happily Ever After story retellings, this time the Rumpelstiltskin.
Eliana was kept in the castle by her overprotective mother for long. So much so it's a miracle she was able to find herself a husband and get pregnant. But now her beloved is dead and her baby is about to come to this world. And exactly in these moments, someone is creating disturbances in her peaceful world, laying deadly traps in the meadow to capture and injure the unicorns, beautiful and magnificent creatures specific to the country of Vale. Eliana, despite her labor, is determined to save the unicorns and find out the identity of the culprit... and the backstory of her mother's life.
Very sweet and peaceful tale, without much action, more concentrated on the love and hope brought to this world by childbirth, the protective instincts of a mother, and the beauty of such creatures as the unicorns. Only the conflict between the queen and the princess and the traps being laid bring certain turmoil into the story. Nevertheless, the characters' personalities are well painted, at least in the case of Eliana and her mother - there is still some way to go with Jay, whose personality is only shown through his love and loyalty for Eliana but not much more. However there are still three more books in the miniseries to come, and I believe all my questions will be answered.
