You all know the story of Rumplestiltskin, but do you know what happened after the fairytale ending? Well, we do. Not all afters end up happily, sometimes the real adventure starts much later...
Fact: Unicorns can’t talk.
That’s what Eliana had always thought, anyway. Until a unicorn speaks to her and shatters everything she thought she knew.
Now, with the only clue to a mysterious unicorn trapper coming from the unicorns themselves, Eliana must hide her new abilities and work in secret to discover who the culprit is.
But the situation grows more dire and Eliana can’t help but wonder...
Born in Leeds, I lived a very normal life until I got bored one day and decided to travel the world. Since then I've worked on a Banana Plantation, cleaned ACDC's dressing room and been a professional clown. I climbed to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and the top of Kilimanjaro. Nowadays you'll find me being a climbing frame for my two young children, working in a school, and renovating my home. Did I also mention I wrote some books? I hope you enjoy them! Heiress of Gold is the second book in the Rumpelstilskin by J.A. Armitage and Jennifer Ellision.
Eliana learn that she can talk to unicorn. Well at least one. The mother of the baby unicorn she have save is talking to her telepathically. Eliana will need to hide her new abilities. She will need to find the missing unicorns and what the word Rumpelstilskin means. Her mother now something about it, Eliana sure of that, but she doesn't want to talk about it. Feeling between Jay and her are changing.
I really love it and looking foward to read the next book. I have received an arc from J.A. Armitage.
J.A. Armitage’s Kingdom of Fairytales multi-series concept is really an ideal template - what happens after the “happily ever after” in classic fairytales - for multiple series, and she’s certainly taken advantage of it in multiple series either written by herself or co-authored with others. That’s certainly the case with the Kingdom of Fairytales: Rumpelstiltskin she’s coauthored with Jennifer Ellison. I’ve not read anything by the latter author previously but that’s one of the beauties of this over-arching multi-series collection: it introduces me to new authors with a sort of quality seal as I can trust that Armitage will choose her co-authors well. She absolutely did this time as each of the books in this series, Queen of Unicorns (Book 1), Heiress of Gold (Book 2), Throne of Sacrifice (Book 3) and Goddess of Loss (Book 4) was superbly written and the overarching story arc is perfect. Taking place 18 years after the end of the classic tale, Rumpelstiltskin is back in the Vale, unicorns are being hunted down and the heroine here, Eliana, is seemingly facing insurmountable odds. Ehss as t follows over the course of these four books is a really wonderful and exciting tale that’s easy to highly recommend and definitely makes me want to find more books by the co-author here (I’m already addicted to Armitage so reading her books is a given). One caveat: I’ve reviewed these all at once as this series really is best read from Book 1 on, though that’s actually easy to do as each is fast to read.

Unicorns are disappearing. Eliana's mother is tightening the security. The princess' emotions are going a little haywire. The royal family is planning a party to celebrate the birth of little sweet Fae. Yet Eliana' mind is occupied by the unicorns, their ability to talk to her (or her ability to understand), and the only mysterious lead she has to their location - the funny curse word of her childhood, Rumpelstiltskin. The unicorns are fine creatures, and I love how they are depicted - as intelligent beasts able to communicate with their princess, with weakness for peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and so human in the protectiveness of their offspring. Eliana is also an interesting character, sweet and kind and caring yet with a temper. However, what seems to be quite puzzling to me is Eliana's miraculous recovery after labor - in normal life, I can't very well imagine a woman running around or even riding a horse (unicorn) just a few days after labor. She can't be healed. But maybe Eliana is, as the tale needs her to be fine to go on the quest...
Facing her fears and finding allies, Eliana is working hard to unravel mysteries in this one. What this Rumpelstiltskin word refers to, where the unicorns disappeared to, how her feeling towards Jay are changing. Yep, lots of romantic angst in this one - can Jay escape the friend zone? Throughout it all Fae is just the most amazing baby! (The real proof that this is a fairy tale land)
A fast read that stays close to Eliana and her secrets. There was a brief peek that hinted at just what kind of danger the unicorns - and Eliana might be in. There is a big celebration coming up too, so maybe we will get to see more of the kingdom and people.
This is a good twist on the Rumplestiltskin story, but the thing keeping me from giving it five stars is the dissonance between the setting of a typical story kingdom with unicorns and the reference to modern day items and figures of speech. It's quite distracting and I haven't noticed it that much in the other books in this series. Hopefully, it will not be so obvious in the other books.
Still reading these non stop I can't help it. You won't regret this series it's worth it I couldn't wait to read the whole thing and now can't wait to read more just like it! Thanks for an amazing read
