What happened after the happily ever after?

You all know the story of Rumplestiltskin, but did you ever wonder what happened after the fairytale ending? Well we know. Not all afters end up happily, sometimes the real adventure starts much later...

Mysterious strangers claim that a dark magic is sweeping across all of the kingdoms.

But Eliana has her own problems to worry about.

The unicorns are under attack. Rumpelstiltskin is at large in Vale. And she has a new baby who needs her.

But when Rumpelstiltskin finally makes his last, most devastating move, he forces Eliana’s hand.

She’d thought there was no safer place than Vale.

It turns out she was wrong.

And it could cost her everything.

Born in Leeds, I lived a very normal life until I got bored one day and decided to travel the world. Since then I've worked on a Banana Plantation, cleaned ACDC's dressing room and been a professional clown.
I climbed to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and the top of Kilimanjaro. Nowadays you'll find me being a climbing frame for my two young children, working in a school, and renovating my home.
Did I also mention I wrote some books?
I hope you enjoy them!

Goddess of loss is the final book in the Rumpelstilskin arc by J.A. Armitage and Jennifer Ellision.

Mysterious strangers arrives in Vale and claim that they are Eliana's siblings and that really dark magic is affecting all the Kingdoms. They want Eliana to come with them but with a newborn to take care off she decline. As the unicorns still under attack and Rumpelstilskin at large she just can't leave. But Rumpel will finally make is move and takes whats most precious to Eliana.

I have received an arc of this book from J.A. Armitage. I have really love this version of Rumpelstilskin and can't wait for the next tale, Beauty and the Beast.

J.A. Armitage’s Kingdom of Fairytales multi-series concept is really an ideal template - what happens after the “happily ever after” in classic fairytales - for multiple series, and she’s certainly taken advantage of it in multiple series either written by herself or co-authored with others. That’s certainly the case with the Kingdom of Fairytales: Rumpelstiltskin she’s coauthored with Jennifer Ellison. I’ve not read anything by the latter author previously but that’s one of the beauties of this over-arching multi-series collection: it introduces me to new authors with a sort of quality seal as I can trust that Armitage will choose her co-authors well. She absolutely did this time as each of the books in this series, Queen of Unicorns (Book 1), Heiress of Gold (Book 2), Throne of Sacrifice (Book 3) and Goddess of Loss (Book 4) was superbly written and the overarching story arc is perfect. Taking place 18 years after the end of the classic tale, Rumpelstiltskin is back in the Vale, unicorns are being hunted down and the heroine here, Eliana, is seemingly facing insurmountable odds. Ehss as t follows over the course of these four books is a really wonderful and exciting tale that’s easy to highly recommend and definitely makes me want to find more books by the co-author here (I’m already addicted to Armitage so reading her books is a given). One caveat: I’ve reviewed these all at once as this series really is best read from Book 1 on, though that’s actually easy to do as each is fast to read.

When life started to seem perfect to Eliana, and happiness was filling her days, the bad omen came to life, and she was forced to suffer the greatest loss possible. With Fae kidnapped and Jay lying in hospital, badly injured, and even the unicorns not being able to find her daughter, there seems to be only one option for the princess - to unite forces with the golden eyed strangers and join the quest in order to stop the malice spreading across kingdoms, all with the hopes to find her daughter soon.
The most emotionally exposed installment in this series brought up the best in both Lia and Jay, while also depicting their weaknesses and error potential. However, Eliana's magic bloomed to its maximum so far, and the magical disturbances causing havoc in the kingdom forced the characters to change and adapt, whether we talk about the main couple or the royal family. With Fae missing, the story finished with open end that leads the next steps to yet another kingdom and another affected prince.

At the end of book 3 Eliana really wanted to believe she had found her happy ending. Everything was falling into place, the unicorns had been rescued, she and Jay were exploring their new relationship and of course, Baby Fae was perfect! Alas, it was but the calm before the storm. And what a storm!

There were parts of this story that were foreshadowed and inevitable and therefore predictable, but also a few I did not see coming. Aptly titled, this is perhaps the most personal expression of the curse we have seen so far in the series.

This is book 4 in the Rumpelstiltskin arc which is a serial and must be read in order. It is the 5th such arc in the Kingdom of Fairytales series. While each set of 4 books can be read independently, they are starting to build towards a larger story.

As Expected

We all knew that Rumpelstiltskin would get what he wanted given the scene at the river in the last book. I still can't get beyond mixing modern day items and settings with the timeframe this is set in. It would be much more effective to align the storyline with the specifics on the time it represents. I most likely will read the first book of the next grouping to see where it goes.

I knew it was coming, everyone who reads this book knows it is coming, but it is still heartbreaking. I want to skip ahead to the last books so as to reunite Eliana with her daughter (hopefully that happens!), but I will continue to read them in order and hope that I get there quickly. I am really enjoying these books (bugs me when there is misuse of the pronouns "I" and "me") and highly recommend them. One problem; once you start, you will be hooked.

As always , a great ending that needs more answers. I love how KoF has this particularly of giving us a story with stories inside, and even if you like some character's storyline better than others, you still find yourself loving the complexity of this big book series! Saying goodbye to the Vale and hello to Arboria, let's meet beauty and the beast!
