You all know the story of The Wizard of Oz, but did you ever wonder what happened after the fairytale ending? Well we know. Not all afters end up happily, sometimes the real adventure starts much later...
I never would have expected that I could make new friends in Urbis Prison. But now I have two: Clement, my cellmate, and Silas, the intimidating man the other prisoners call “Psycho.” With their help, escape just might be possible. But outside the prison walls, a wicked magic is spreading across the land, and its effect on the kingdoms may even be more dangerous than the tyrannical ogres who stand between me and freedom.
Born in Leeds, I lived a very normal life until I got bored one day and decided to travel the world. Since then I've worked on a Banana Plantation, cleaned ACDC's dressing room and been a professional clown. I climbed to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and the top of Kilimanjaro. Nowadays you'll find me being a climbing frame for my two young children, working in a school, and renovating my home. Did I also mention I wrote some books? I hope you enjoy them! They did have to walk a lot!!! That’s not a spoiler, is it? Nah, you wouldn’t know where or why. Clement and Jakon are really hitting it off! Nice to see.
Turns out getting out of prison was the easy part. Now Jakon and his friends need to traverse a desert made even more treacherous than normal by the evil magic pervading the land all while avoiding recapture and bandit gangs. Meanwhile Jakon is exploring his newly found powers and the growing mutual attraction he has with Clement. This was more of a character growth and world building type episode; lots of good potential for what is coming up.
This was a fast read that tied well into the larger series with plenty of references both to kingdoms already featured in the Kingdom of Fairytales as well as a few hints as to what might be awaiting in the two kingdoms coming up. The references to Dorothy and OZ of the book series were well done as well. This narrative has taken a very different path from the pattern commonly found in the previous arcs. Book 2 of 4 in Jakon's story, read them in order.
After the prison break, Jakon together with Clement and Silas are on the run, heading to Urbis through Badalah. Even now, as fugitives, they can see and feel the effects of magic everywhere, in the haunted faces, starved children, and unnatural violence. When Silas parts ways from his friends, Jakon and Clement go on, but they are no exceptions from the magical forgetfulness of Badalah. And the closer to Urbis, the worse the effect is on Clement. This series turns out to be a tale of friendship, love, and courage where none is obvious or expected. Jakon's anxiety is a dominant side to him, but being in the company of calm and composed Clement helps him a lot. With every sad moment, every reason to grief, he becomes aware he is able to squeeze more space for love to his heart, and for his companion, he'd do anything. Even changing the course or exhausting himself with magical use just to bring a little relief to the man that stole his heart.
After befriending Pyscho or Silas as his name turns out to be, Jakon comes up with an escape plan and the 3 of them (Jakon, Clement and Silas) escape from Urbis prison. Silas heads home and Jakon & Clement decide to head to Urbis to call a council meeting. Travelling across Badalah however the magic causing people to loose their memories starts to take an effect on the pair. Will they be able to hold on to enough to be able to complete their mission?
Heir of Fugitives is the second book in The wizard of Oz arc.
Having made friends in prison, Jakon finally escaped. However outside the prison wall, a strang magic has started to spread accross the land and the Kingdom affecting everyone memory.
I have received an arc of this book from the authors.
I have enjoyed these series within a series books so very much! I am loving Jakon's story and his friendships with Silas and Clemons. I absolutely can't wait for the next books!!!! Kudos to both J.A Armitage and Emma Savant on writing Jakon's story!!!!
This book centers on Jakon's and Clement's journey. You could say that it's not just a physical journey, but an emotional one as well. Not a lot of new information, just a further look into what Jakon stands for.
Finally getting out of jail, Jakob and friends, Clement and Silas, now have to travel across a desert. Silas ends up going his own way as Clement and Jakob head to a counseling meeting in It is for answer.
Jakon is free but his plight is not over. It’s an uphill battle of wills and strength to survive this adventure. Evil, magic and everything in between. I couldn’t love Oz more.
