Joynell Schultz spends her days working in a “reliable profession” as a veterinary pharmacist, which pays the bills, but isn’t nearly as exciting as creating alternative worlds writing speculative fiction. While shivering through the long northern Wisconsin winters with her husband, two children, and numerous pets, she enjoys reading, writing, and planning her next vacation.
A good paranormal cozy mystery. The characters are likable and the story is solid. The mystery is good with appropriate clues. It felt familiar to me. Perhaps I've read something similar. So, I was a little disappointed that I figured out the murder fairly early in the book.
I love to try and figure out who done it and this book kept me guessing all the way through. I love that in a book! The little romance that there was ,was not a shocker but the murderer was!!
Quite a good story with lots of twists and turns to keep you turning pages, the magic is more potion's than spells but more than enough to keep it interesting. Characters are good although I would have liked a bit more flesh on the bones but that doesn't detract from what is quite a good story there's a little humour and just a touch of romance to round things off, it will be interesting to see what comes next, worth a read, Baz.

Aubrey Dirksen enjoys running her Moonstruck Manor mansion-turned-bed-and-breakfast, along with her assistant, Isabella. She had many supernatural regulars who stayed there and filled her with their adventure stories she could enjoy without leaving her home. After cleaning a clog out of the bathtub for an older couple, she ran right into Oliver Redmond. He was a monthly visitor at the B&B who worked for a New York law firm. He was an elemental witch with an affinity to water and loved both the lake and the bathtub in each room. Isabella called up the stairs that the police were there, so she had to get back downstairs.
The female officers asked to be shown around her garden, and specifically asked to see the “grave ivy”. Grave ivy was used in potions but could be deadly if ingested in a large enough quantity. Because of that, Aubrey was on a national register as having one of the gardens that grew it. They found one of the plants was very recently harvested, which Aubrey says was odd since she had not trimmed it all season. Then they reminded her Mayor Hackshaw of Black Hallows died last week. Nodding at the plant, she told her he was poisoned! Now Aubrey has to list the people who stayed at the B&B and visited her garden. Thinking back, several had behaved suspiciously. Who committed the murder? Could the killer really be one of her beloved guests? Will Aubrey be accused?
This was a great start to this cozy mystery series! The author is so good at these and brings her characters to life for the reader! Grab your copy and follow the clues with Aubrey!
Aubrey is enjoying running her bed and breakfast, meeting new people. Aubrey has a few guest at the the B&B when the police come to ask her a few questions. Turns out the Mayor was murdered by grave ivy, she she has in her garden. Aubrey now has to make a list of people that stayed there and went into her garden. Now Aubrey is now having to look at everyone and everyone has been acting suspicious. Aubrey is also seems to be attracted Oliver, one of the guests that are staying there. Seems to think he will be better suited for Isabella, but is he the murderer. Or Isabella and Sebastian have been acting weird as well. Aubrey decides to take matters in her own hands to get to the bottom of everything, with one of her potions. Will Aubrey like the answers she gets or is the killer closer than she realizes
This was a nice introduction to series, I really enjoyed the start of this series. Love the characters of Aubrey, Isabella and others. Can't wait to see what the next book holds.

I always love the concoctions of Ms. Schultz's creativity! This sweet paranormal mystery is a great example of why - I found it incredibly engrossing with the interesting characters (most of whom have magical abilities), the intriguing mystery, the potential romance, and the compelling world-building. Aubrey was really likable and fun to watch, both as she addressed the case of the mayor's murder and the possible romances among herself and those she works with in the story. I love how Ms. Schultz is always able to make her characters and worlds seem so real and relatable even when they are light-years from our reality. Aubrey was not only smart, resilient and professional; she was also vulnerable and experiencing learning and growth which made her and the story feel really well-rounded and more complex than a lot of novellas I've read. As usual, I didn't want the story to end and I am TOTALLY looking forward to the next installment in the series. Glad this was just the beginning!
(FYI I tend to only review one book per series, unless I completely change my mind on a series, so want to change my scoring down a lot)
How I rate Stars: 5* = I loved (must read all I can find by the author) 4* = I really enjoyed (got to read all the series and try other books by the author). 3* = I enjoyed (I will continue to read the series) or 3* = Good book just not my thing (I realised I don't like the genre or picked up a kids book to review in error.)
All of the above scores means I would recommend them! - 2* = it was okay (I might give the next book in the series a try, to see if that was better IMHO.) 1* = Disliked
Note: adding these basic 'reviews' after finding out that some people see 3* differently than I do - hoping this clarifies how I feel about the book. :-) ------------
Aubrey Dirksen runs a B&B and also has a lovely garden filled with plants for potions. She got the home and land in her divorce, her husband got the money.
One of the guests at the B&B took some of the more potent plants from the garden, (these plants have been registered as dangerous with the national registry) and used some of it to kill the town's mayor.
Aubrey needs to find the culprit, or she risks losing her livelihood if guests to the B&B stop coming because the property is connected to an unsolved murder.
This story is shorter than I like, and as such has a rushed ending. Barring the ending, there was enough of the characterization and setting to make me curious enough to read the next one. I'm hoping it will be a full novel instead. That will determine if I continue with the series.
This a delightful paranormal mystery. Aubrey, a divorcée and also a witch, owns a bed and breakfast where paranormals always stay when they are around that area. Most of them are repeat customers, almost friends. It seems that the mayor’s death a short while ago, is being treated not as normal, but as murder. Aubrey, and everyone else who were there the night he died, are suspects as the police can prove that the poison used, came from her garden. As Aubrey starts thinking of all the suspects, she realizes that each one has been acting suspiciously and could have been the killer. How can she use her witching skills to narrow the suspects down and prove her innocence while finding the killer?
I really like this author's writing style, I have read several of her books and she never disappoints! This book is the start to a new series and the main character Aubrey, who runs a B&B for paranormal's, is a potion witch. Someone took a snip of a rare and potentially deadly plant from her garden and brews up a potion to murder the obnoxious mayor. Was it one of her guests or a friend? Are they trying to implicate Aubrey? And what's up with the cute water witch lawyer? Aubrey keeps catching him not being completely honest. A fun story with paranormal's, a little romance and a great cast of characters. Can't wait to read the next in the series!!
Another great start to a new series by this author. Joynell writes such interesting cosy mysteries, with many characters possible as the murderer, always comes as a shock when they are revealed. This book is no different to her others in that regard but I was interested in the main character being an older lady not that many of them in the books I usually read, was a pleasant change. The subtle romance was an unexpected treat would have liked that developed more, maybe in the next book, which I am looking forward to reading.

Aubrey has been kept busy running her Bed & Breakfast for Paranormals. When the mayor dies, they discover that he has been poisoned by a magical plant - and her garden is the only one registered to grow it within 100 miles. Who could have taken some? They had to have knowledge of how it works - is Aubrey going to be a suspect? Will she be able to foster a romance between Oliver and Isabelle? Or does Oliover have other ideas - could he even be the murderer? Who can she trust? I loved the little twists in this story!

Magically Poisoned is a novella prequel to a new series and is a great introduction to the series and the characters at the B&B.
Aubrey Dirksen runs a B&B and also has a lovely garden filled with plants for potions. When someone steals one to poison the mayor, Aubrey decides that she needs to find out which one of her boarders could be guilty.
This is a well-written novella with interesting characters and an engaging cozy mystery. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this new series. I read and reviewed this book with no obligation
A bed and breakfast for the magical community has to face the problems of everyday hospitality AND what seems to be a connection to a murder. The garden contains a plant that has deadly properties and only a few places are allowed to grow the plant. When the local mayor is found to be murdered, Aubrey Dirksen has to face the probability that sone of the people around her is a killer. The characters are well developed, the plot makes sense, the case is solvable if one pays attention to the clues. I enjoyed the book and recommend it to others.
This is a prequel to a new series. I loved it. Aubrey is the owner of a unique bed and breakfast which caters to paranormal clientele. It’s set on a lake and has a lovely garden filled with magical plants. When the autopsy of the mayor indicates that he was killed by one of her plants, Aubrey is puzzled about who among her regular guests and employees killed the mayor. I love the characters and can’t wait for the next in this series.
Aubrey owns the moonstruck inn and the police come to her because the mayor has been poisoned and since it was her play that caused the murder, Aubrey feels like she has to find out who killed the mayor so she is not considered a suspect. This is a new series by Joynell Schultz and like all of her books it is shaping up to be an awesome series and I cannot wait for more.

A short novella prequel to the Paranormal Bed & Breakfast Mystery series, a great start to a new series. Aubrey, a divorcée, and witch who owns a bed and breakfast who is looking into the Mayor's murder. She meets the sexy water witch Oliver who she thinks at first could have done it. There is suspense, drama, twists, turns, and the start of a romance. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Magically Poisoned, which is the prequel to A Paranormal Bed And Breakfast Mystery Series, was both entertaining and challenging to solve. The characters seemed a bit stiff but I expect in future stories the characters will be more relatable as we become more familiar with the main characters and have the chance to witness their growth. Looking forward to to reading other books in this series. Highly recommend.
This magical murder mystery kept me guessing until the end
Yet another of Joynell's seemingly slight but actually very well-written, well-plotted, entertaining, imaginative books. Full of magic, mayhem and murder, with eccentric characters and a dash of blossoming romance, I couldn't work out who the culprit was and enjoyed this very much. I am looking forward to see more of Aubrey and Oliver and the weird and wonderful guests at Moonstruck Manor.
A cozy mystery that fans of Joynell will like and those who haven’t read her books before are in for a treat as clues arise to who could have poisoned the mayor. Follow the clues and enjoy this story as it unfolds to its eventual conclusion!
I enjoyed trying to guess the killer myself and recommend it to young and old alike who like to delve into a story to that same end. It lays the groundwork for a new series that her fans are sure to like!
4.0 out of 5 stars Good intro to a new series! Reviewed in the United States on February 25, 2020 Format: Kindle EditionVerified Purchase I really loved the characters in this book. Aubrey is the owner of the B&B and her staff are interesting. The grounds sound lovely and the opportunity for new characters and mysteries abound. I can’t wait to read the next one in the series. I received an ARC and this is my honest opinion.
What a marvelous aray of caracters surrounding this mystery ,most all are paranormal do to the fact of a delightful witch who runs a paranormal B&B . Sometimes you just never know who you can trust. A story of friends, friendships and trust. It's hard to understand what goes through people's minds. All we can do is take things in stride and roll with the punches. This story mimics real life in ways that leave the reader pondering. Great author and another great read! Well done!
Moonstruck Manor is more than a bed and breakfast. In fact, it is so magical that paranormal’s flock to stay there. Aubrey works hard to make the bed and breakfast the best it can be and her clients appreciate her efforts. This story has it all a mystery, romance and lots of fun. You will be glad you read this book, try it today.
In this short story, aubrey owns a B&B who caters to the supes on the downlow. Unfortunately for aubrey , one of her guests dies. Its the mayor. I really liked this short story. The characters were sort of oddballs but very likeable. The worldbuilding was great. I could imagine her lovely gardens. I definitely recommend this story.
Boy, do I relate to Aubrey! I tend to see how others could match and totally miss any romantic interest in me. Unlike Aubrey, I do not have a mystery to distract me. It's a good thing that Oliver is so persistent. May I be so lucky!

I really enjoyed this book and learning the background of Moonstruck Manor. Looking forward to learning more about the characters and their magical abilities. I liked Aubrey and Oliver. Can’t wait to read where they go from here. Wishing the next book was available sooner than a June release date.
A delightful little novella. Starting book for a new series. This is a sweet romance with a murder thrown in. Can easily be read in one read. The story moves at a quick pace. Some twists and turns. Likeable characters. I received ARC copy.
