Hide your magic. Don't tell anyone you're dating your TA, and now maybe your handler, too. Don't tell anyone about the jaguar in your room, or secret lab under the dorm. Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer.
All Mallory Serra wants is to get through her time at the Academy of the Dark Arts unscathed, without being yanked out of class and sent to the front lines before she's even learned to control her magic. Not getting her boyfriend, Nico, kicked out for dating a student, or her government handler -turned-other-boyfriend, Matt, reassigned for dating his agent would be great, too.
Now Alec and Damon, her other professors, are hinting that they want more of her, too, but she plans to stay as far away from that as possible. The stakes are getting too high, and they all have too much to lose.
But alas, nothing ever goes according to plan at the Academy of Dark Arts, and some rules were meant to be broken.
SYNOPSIS (5 Book Series): The FC, Mallory, lives in a world where there are humans and individuals with magic gifts (kind of like X men). If you are discovered to have a gift then you are immediately sent to the academy to train before being required to join the army as the “country” is always at war. As there is no choice the FC tried to hide her powers but was discovered and enrolled. She meets the MCs at the academy and gradually wins each one over. The story revolves around the development of the FC/MCs relationships, Mallory’s growing powers and the fight to avoid being drafted into the army.
Heat Level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🍆🍆🍆🍆 The amount of scenes increases as the series progress and there are both single and group scenes. There’s no particular kink but they are well written and hot and do not overtake the story too much.
There are a lot of typos and editing issues that are annoying otherwise the story is decently written but this just wasn’t for me. Whilst I liked Mallory and she came across as strong and capable the overall story didn’t work. It was odd to apparently have the army running everything (where was the government for example) and one particular individual in the army who seemed to be in total control of everything. The underlying “secret” that the MCs would not reveal was simply annoying as there was no real reason not to tell her. When everything came out it was anticlimactic and I had already worked out what was happening.
I found the storyline around the amaroq and all the labs to be confusing (and hackneyed) and it was never really explained why so much time or resource had been put into tracking it down or what the army was trying to achieve (save for satisfying one man’s desire for immortality). Ultimately it seemed to just be an excuse for the author to write in some dramatic scenes. The ending also felt like a let down. Nothing changes and the FC and MCs just hide away - what’s that about?
Each book seems to deal with one MC relationship and have one dramatic scene. It felt formulaic. There are multiple questions left unanswered such as who put the amaroqs in the sigils in the first place and why, at the end, was the breaking of the sigils apparently no longer important.
Whilst I liked the FC the MCs it all felt a bit basic and there was no background given as to their lives apart from some very basic information. I found it hard to really buy in to them or their relationship with the FC.
I wish there was a way to write your review as you go along, because the progress notes don't save here...
Anyway, this book definitely had some more movement to it, aside from just Mallory, yay! Her and Matt finally got together - phew! The poor guy must have had blue balls by now! 😂
I love the way her magic is developing, but no one is actually asking why or how... Hmmm...
After everything, I'm surprised Mal thought Janae had ditched and didn't try find where she was, and so we only find out at the end that she faked her own death to get away and protect her little sister.
I had wondered if Everett was the amaroq, but I've let that one go, but there is definitely something else going on aside from just a demon... And it's got something to do with the bond the guys all share... Which we now know is due to Everetts magic taking a piece of someone each time he nulls their magic.
I love the extra little dynamic Dice brings to everything 😁 and now Paul too, with his electronic mulling magic.
The sigil is going to be interesting to unravel, and Everett knows way more than he's letting on. I'm actually surprised Mal has let them keep these secrets from her. I thought she would have demanded it all out by now.
Alec is now slowly coming into the fold, won't be long before he's part of the harem, but surprisingly, I think it will be Damon the last one standing, not Everett. Dying to know what those shadows really are too!!

I didn't like this one quite as much. The storyline isn't progressing, so it feels like it's stalled out. I'd like to have learned more about the sigil, or Poehler, or SOMETHING before that cliffhanger ending.
I'm worried that book 4 is the last book that's currently out, and there won't be any answers in that one either.
This had a couple of grammatical issues, and a story inconsistency (Mal references a time when she was out with Alshleigh and Shea, but she was actually out with Eliza and some other friend).
This book is a rehash of book 1 and 2 how many times do we have to read about how her powers work??? She tells everyone the same story over and over. I pushed through to 78% and finally had enough. I can only blame myself after book 2 lets not forget the TSTL and childish chapters when I found myself rolling my eyes over and over it was enough.
This was just fantastic from the pranks to family squabbles. Mal's now up to 2 and a half boyfriend's 😘 the ending was definitely illuminating. Can't wait to read more. JL
Thoroughly enjoying this series can't wait for the next so I have pre-ordered for August not my normal type of book but since getting my tablet finding lots of different genre to read
Omg! Love this series! Mal is amazing and so her boys. This was so hard to put down and what is it???? Hehe you got to read the book to know what I'm talking about
This book was a great addition to the series. A good storyline and absolutely fantastic characters. I'm not really seeing the rh factor in it though. By the end of a third book I would have expected more than just 2 relationships. Great cliffhanger.
Totally addictive!!!! I want more scenes of Nico, Matt and Mallory together, Mallory and Everett together Crazy about the next book, and I had a suspicion confirmed in that book..... Spoiler: . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Malditos finales de infarto 😭😭😭. Cosas que me encantan de estos bizarros libros: Mal y su harem que por cierto es una cosa confusa pero voy a gritar cuando Ev caiga la magia y el mundo post apocalíptico.
