1.5 stars. The review is gonna be so chaotic. Sigh.
📍The kind of predicability this book demonstrates sucks. The moment the heroine only mentioned in passing she was going for a "surprise" visit I already knew she'd find her current boyfriend creampieing some other chick. Wow, shocker. Guess it turned out to be a big surprise, alright. If not for readers sksks
I don't read romance for complex plots or thriller-type-of-crazy twists, yet it's extremely frustrating when the author says A and I can already see her B, C and D from a mile away. You can still have a surprise element when you add something original and authentic to popular tropes and classical romance scenes.
If you're not creative enough to add even a few refreshing scenes to the genre's cuisine what are you doing in this profession? Sometimes I do wonder whether the writing community should be less inclusive. It's far too easy to become an author these days. It does pose some inconveniences for readers: I, for one, have less and less time to dedicate to searching little diamonds among a pile of trash.
📍Also you can't even fathom how tired I am of reading about insecure, mousy heroines who are either very desperate to get dicked down (their only aspiration in life, it appears to be) or, in case they had already accomplished their one and only goal in life — attracted a hot guy, get cheated on by their boyfriends and/or heroes.
I wonder when popular, unabashedly attractive and emotionally unavailable heroines that have no qualms about breaking hearts and won't let any limp dick loser make them think they don't deserve decent treatment, love and attention will come into fashion. Woke feminism can ruin a romance book, self-love? Never.
Unhappy, pathetic, mousy heroines moping around after a guy they barely knew breaks up with them... I can see the general appeal of writing and reading them. If a plain, unremarkable Jane has a chance at finding her true love (again), surely anyone does too. 😂
But I need some variety. A spark of personality, perhaps? The heroines' faces are blurring in my mind.
📍The same goes for the hero. He's the epitome of instant possessiveness, protectiveness and jealousy. I would have loved him more if he existed outside of a realm of cliches that dictate the type of behavior the hero should adopt to satisfy a regular romance reader.
Flash news: describing him as a hot money bag, limiting his vocabulary to the word "mine" and making him beat other guys to a pulp don't constitute a fully-fleshed personality.
Every person is unique and it's only fair that a protagonist deserves to be written as more than a walking cliché, if somewhat popular and well-loved.
📍The writing is so bad. I swear 99% of reviews that I've read on goodreads so far are better thought out and more eloquently worded than this book. Much as I'd love to flatter fellow GR users, this is not a compliment. It's a fact.
The storytelling is very simplistic, straightforward and primitive for lack of a better word. It rushes the plot a lot without giving any real substance to it. It completely lacks any subtlety in characterizations and doesn't give any small, yet authentic details to make the book sound memorable, professional and unique. Descriptions are all very artificial and surface-level, as in they don't possess the power of evoking a fleeting feeling or awakening a distant memory in a reader. Ink on paper is supposed to drop me into a whole new world by appealing to my mind and emotions. Otherwise, it's a waste of material.
I'm sort of embarrassed for this author, but at the same time I'm not even pissed enough to provide quotes and make fun of them. Kicking someone when they are down has never been a priority with me sjsksksksksks
📍A side note: if some guy beat my cheating ex up, I'd fucking cheer the dude on. Pet his shoulder. Give him a handkerchief to wipe the blood of his knuckles. Give him a bottle of water. But that's the imperfect me.
The heroine's logic of throwing herself over the sleazy bitch that had cheated on her to protect him is fleeting my mind. Putting aside the heroine'spathetic moping goodness of heart, why would she risk getting a stray blow on behalf of someone who had just called her a "stupid bitch that wouldn't put out".
The author certainly glorifies her female character's naivety (which I find pretty cute and wholesome in some books; I like 'em clueless and ingenuous) through Auden's POV, but the truth is sad: this girl is just dumb. And boy-crazy.
Dumb isn't paramount to naive, naive doesn't equate to dumb. Naive is cute, dumb isn't. All the more embarrassing that I had to read her scarce thoughts through a first person's perspective. I + a stream of conscience didn't sit right with me.
📍 The way Aiden would bite his bottom lip at every opportunity.. you'd think he's Anastasia Steele encased in a male body. Poor thing.
📍Writing male POV is not something the author should entertain in the near future. Lack of male POV doesn't sound as disastrous as feminized male POV.

The only thing I can say to my gr friends who loved this book is Please Forgive Me...
I had the best intentions for Aiden, since I saw the high ratings.
But unfortunately there was nothing to help me love it, or even enjoy it.
The style ‘me-tarzan-you-virgin’ and let me show you everything you were missing, didn’t work for me.
Emma was an 18 y.o. girl, so immature and naive, touching the limits of stupidity. No backbone, no self respect, no pride. She didn’t want Aiden’s money, but she was accepting all the luxury things he provided for her. After her sexual experience with Aiden, another side of her was presented, slightly kinky. She liked Aiden’s spanking and choking her, but it was so out of her character!!!
Aiden was 25 y.o., alpha badass, commanding and controlling character, very wealthy, an investor, owned his company when he was at school, had a club, and also was entangled in the Mafia. 😓
The only thing on his mind regarding Emma was ‘Mine’!
‘You. Are. Mine.’
His possessiveness was suffocating and out of any realm.
Their chemistry was evident and blatant, but their relationship was unemotional to me.
And yes, they had a lot of sex.

This book had me from the get go. As soon as we saw Aiden in the kitchen, I knew I was hooked. I love a tattooed bad boy and Aiden is a great character. He's strong and protective and he encourages Emilia to pursue her dreams and be happy.
The only thing I didn't really enjoy was Emilia. She is only eighteen, but she's pretty immature through a lot of the book. She can be bratty, lies to Aiden, and is reckless. I'm glad he cares for her and after all she's gone through, I'm sure she'll grow up a bit.
The plot was well paced and has plenty of action and drama to keep things interesting. The ending crushed me and I'm hoping book two isn't far away!

So, I read this book a long time ago and I loved it and I wanted to reread it for some time now. And the time finally came.
It's the first mafia romance I've read, and I remember when I read it for the first time, I couldn't put it down. I just wanted to read the story of Aiden and Emilia. Now that I reread it, I think that it was a little too fast paced in the beginning (at least for me). I wanted to see more of Aiden and Emilia before they get together. But that's my opinion, maybe someone else will enjoy it as it is.
Overall, it's a really good book and I enjoyed reading and rereading it and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to read a good romance/mafia book. If you decide to read it please note that it ends with a cliffhanger so make sure to grab both Aiden and Emilia!

This has already become one of my favorite books. What a story! My heart beats super fast after this ending, one of the best I have ever read.

What a roller coaster of emotions, I couldn’t imagine it when I started reading this book. This is going to become a book that will surely re-read several times. FORMIDABLE!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️
Aiden is the oldest brother of Ashley, Emilia’s best friend. They meet when Aiden stays a few days at her home while Aiden’s apartment is getting ready. They go to a party at Ian’s house, Emilia’s boyfriend, who is caught cheating on her with another girl. Ian does not take very well that Emília sends him to fuck in front of his friends and that’s when Aiden intervenes, or rather his fists. Aiden is a super protector alpha male and when he sees Ian put his hands on Emília, he loses control.
Aiden’s attraction to Emília is instantaneous but he still hesitated at first, but the moment she gives herself to him, that’s it, she is his. His love is possessive but at the same time is sweet and tender, he always care about Emilia’s well-being, makes her feel loved and wanted constantly and always has sweet details with her.
Emília feels insecure after what happened with Ian, but Aiden shows her over and over that he only has eyes for her. She loses her virginity with him, and with him explores her sexuality, revealing a certain kinky side, despite her innocent appearance. The sex is super🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥.
Aiden is a successful investor, despite being only 25 years old he already has his own company, but to get where he has had to associate with dangerous people, with the mafia, and these people will cause more than a scare to the couple.

Aiden by H.L. Swan was a sexy, cute, a little dark but refreshing book. It kinda gave off '50 shades' vibes but with a more alpha hero and mafia involvement. If you're into bad boy alpha types with cute and naïve heroines, then this is the book for you. While it was a tad bit cliché, overall the storyline was great and engaging with off-the-charts chemistry. For a lover of alpha heroes completely smitten with a sweet and endearing girl, this book will be hard to put down.
The only problem I had with this book was with Aiden. He was like a dog constantly pissing on his property. He was so, so territorial, I cannot even start with how many times he said, "You're mine" to Emilia.

There is a cliffhanger with this book, but the good thing is you can jump straight into the second book right after. Just loved this story and the characters sm.

This book has got to be the most interesting book that I litterly have read in a long time! It made me go through so many emotions...even emotions I didnt know I had lmao! The little meanings like the yellow rose in this book seriously are always on mind. Whenever I see a yellow rose I immediately think about this book. The climaxes and conflicts in this book really get you attached to this book. I seriously couldn't stop reading it until it was finished! The author is incredibly brilliant and I'm so grateful that she made this story because even just thinking about Aiden makes my day 10x better! If you're debating if you should get it or not, take this message as a sign to get it! You won't regret reading this book, trust me.

One of my favorites, I love how possessive is Aiden over Emilia, yet he is always making sure she is okay and her safety is his number one priority. For them, it was an instant connection when they first met. I love how sweet and whipped is Aiden for Emilia, yet still tough and always commanding her. He would give up everything just to make sure she is safe, their love for each other is just unconditionally. I love everything about this book.

This book has been on my TBR list for ages!! When I saw the opportunity to get a copy I was overjoyed!! The only problem now is I NEED more!! Thank god there is a sequel, I plan to order the paperback, so I have to wait for it to arrive while I anxiously await to find out what happens next!
I loved Aiden and Emilia!! It was intriguing from the beginning. I knew After (by Anna Todd) sparked H.L’s love for writing this series, so I was ready for a relationship that was going to be so good it broke me. This was so much better because it doesn’t have any of the toxic relationship traits. Aiden has a much better check on his actions and emotions and the perfect amount of demanding Hothole that we all love. Every chapter is as enthralling as the next, with the chemistry between Emma and Aiden so steamy it’s palpable.
A friendship that can last a guy is one that will last for the ages. I admire Ashley’s character, having your best friend date your stepbrother is something; I’m not sure many friends can say they’ve overcome. Aiden and Emilia’s relationship is one that overcomes friendship and the demons of past and present but is that enough for it to last a life time… Without giving any spoilers - all I will say is don’t prepare to stop with this book!! You will be dying for book 2 by the end of it.

Holyyyyy cliffhanger! I was NOTTTTT ready for those last 8ish pages. Not at all.
Aiden, a jealous, alpha male, with some controlling tendencies, and Emilia a yohim. Naive but broken girl. He wants her, she needs him. It's romantic, it's passionate, and it's dramatic.
This book reminds me alot of After by Anna Todd, alot of back & forth petty jealousy to get the others attention. Very similar in that way, but it has more serious moments like in 50 shades.

This was a one sitting read for me. Went through all of the emotions. Aiden and Emilia’s story had me laughing, swooning, and down right sobbing. This was the book that got me back into reading when I first read it on Wattpad! The published version is a million times better and I’ve reread it more times than I can count. Swan knows what she’s doing when it comes to writing romance! Definitely deserves more than 5 stars. 🖤🖤

This book was recommended by me by my cousin. I read the version before it was published, from the moment I turned the first page I was hooked and there was no going back. I loved how the author portrayed the characters through out the book.... There was definitely some happy tears and sad tears in this book but it was definitely worth it. I absolutely loved it!! ❤️

First off Aiden 🔥 I thought I knew possessive tropes, I thought I knew the touch her and di3 trope but boy was I wrong. This man just🥵 Not only is he possessive and protective he is so undeniably in love with Emilia it will bring tears to your eyes. He would go to the literal ends of the Earth for her. Also she never does any wrong in his eyes🥺 He checks every. single. box. Just absolutely the ideal man. TATTOOS🥵
Normally the women in books are kinda whiny or annoying but not Emilia! No never- she was strong and a great partner for Aiden. She brought out the best parts of him. They worked SO beautifully together as a couple😭 crying just thinking about it.
With great plot twists and just an overall phenomenal writing style I can say I’ve found a new favorite author. I am so sad I read these so fast because now it’s over and idk how to go on😭😂💕

I enjoyed this book and found it very easy to keep reading. It was more than just a spicy romance, there was a hint of suspense and action to keep you interested. It was a basic story line but done really well.
I felt like the couple's relationship was just too easy. Not only was it love at first sight but any obstacle was easily overcome and quickly forgotten. I was waiting for something stronger to test their love but it never came.
The romance was very sweet and spicy. Aiden was there for her when she needed it and I think they truly fit together. They both gave everything to their relationship and definitely had chemistry which was written beautifully. Aiden was a different person with Emilia which at first I didn't like but then I got to know him more and it made sense. They bring out the best in each other.
I felt like the rest of the characters in this book were unappreciated. I get that it is a romance and the focus is on the couple, but when they get together both rarely see their friends again. Ashley is Aiden brother and since Aiden is changing I think their relationship should've developed more.

I tried to like this book. I really really did! But GOD was it frustrating!!!! I couldn't get past the 35% mark. I even tried to take breaks between chapters. Nothing helped!
I just couldn't deal with the territorial "You're Mine" shit Aiden had going on. And Emma! Where do I even start! She got upset at Aiden getting upset, she was okay with following his every command, she was happy being a coddled doll! I would have tolerated this book, albeit barely, had it been set in the 18th Century, but in the 21st Century?! Come on!
Obviously, judging by the high ratings, many many people enjoyed this book. But it had too many tropes I hate reading about -insta-love, domineering heroes, and spineless heroines! While an alpha pair is very pleasant to read about, stories with one half of the pair treating the other like they were born without a brain just doesn't do it for me. If you're wondering why I read the book to begin with, it is only because the precis gives no warning, whatsoever, about what to expect.

Wow— where do I even begin, this book was something else. When I first started it I didn’t expect to immediately fall in love with the characters as much as I have. You can really tell that each character was thoroughly thought out. From the begin you just fall in love with their relationships and they way they show themselves and might I add the sexual tension was... WHEW. The best part of this book was watching the characters open up to each-other and give each-other pieces of themselves, the character development is everything. This whole storyline from the plotwists and the the bumpy rides they have to go on to get to where they are is just amazing. I truly recommend this beautiful book. The whole story is just— EVERYTHING.

Fifty shades meet Italian mafia. This story is similar to Fifty Shades of Grey as to there is this young, successful guy, who is super attractive, but cold and doesn't believe he deserves love until he meets a doe-eyed, innocent girl who loves him unconditionally and let me tell you, I absolutely love it. Swan takes this trope and makes it her very own. Aiden is fast-paced, steamy, filled with drama, and will have you turning pages in a blink of an eye. With a cast of lovable characters and a to die for romance this book seriously hooked me. I highly recommend it and can't wait for the second book! But be aware that it will take your feelings for a wild ride.

3.5⭐️ i liked this book, the only thing that stopped it from getting more stars was the writing!! i wish the writing was better and the plot seemed to happen really quickly like one thing would happen and then the characters would completely forget about it 10 pages later? but it was still an entertaining read for what it was...just not the best book i’ve read!
