The second volume of the System Programmer series! ========================================== The Underground, a vast maze of caverns filled with perils lying under the kingdom of Cestor. After being tasked by the king to explore the area and find the ancient ruins, our heroes make their way through this deathtrap. While they find themselves facing danger at every corner, they soon realize that their toughest foe is not hiding in a dark corridor, but deep within themselves.
Jean-Philippe Janssens(1985) was born and raised in Brussels, Belgium. He has been working as a Software Developer for about a decade.
Reading & writing has been a long time passion for him and he spends a lot of his free time imagining stories, whether for potential books or for role-playing games he runs as a Dungeon Master with his friends.
The group dives underground and makes some amazing discoveries. Joshua must face his inner demons.
Okay Joshua’s character changed to be quite a bit more mad hatter than the last book where he was eccentric, now he’s slapstick. At one point the narrator addresses the reader and then it keeps slipping in. Totally throws off the narrative and suspension of disbelief. A romantic dynamic develops between summoned and summoner that is different from the prodigy and guide of the last book. Plus Joshua quickly solves all these mysteries that millennia of people couldn’t figure out.
In all it’s a fun book but quite the change up from the last book. Enjoy.
Mixed in with the expected light hearted fantasy was a completely unexpected bit showing the power of both negative feedback and simple faith in another person.
It takes many, many negative hits to slowly devastate a person, yet one single individual’s faith in that person can change their outlook significantly. Giving hope to a person’s grand dreams has potential to change significant portions of the world (for good or bad).
In this case, it makes a flawed character into a potentially overpowered one (and a fun read as they work through the extremes)
Still love the whole concept the story is based around. The main character progression was well thought out and I loved the idea of the main villain. Thought the next progression for the main character is well thought out too. Very good read. Still a couple grammatical errors and missing words but not unreadable.
The second book is somehow worse than the first. The mc continues his trend of being a huge annoyance and seems to be channeling the spirit of a 10 year old on 4chan.
