Getting fired sucks. Getting propositioned by some arrogant, self-important billionaire three seconds after getting fired? That really sucks.
No, thank you. I have plans with a good friend called Chardonnay, and I expect those plans to keep me occupied all evening.
One thing I don’t expect? For Liam Maguire, the billionaire, ex-olympian that I just rejected, to offer me a job.
Not just any job. My dream job.
The only downside is that I have to spend my days working with him.
Feeling his tantalizing gaze sweep over my body. Wondering why my thighs squeeze together whenever he’s near. Fantasizing about all the things that I rejected when we first met.
Well, all my fantasies are about to come true… ...and that could turn my dream job into a nightmare. As it turns out, there's a lot more to Liam than meets the eye.
Note: Loathe at First Sight was previously titled Corrupt.
Lilian Monroe lives in a luxurious jungle treehouse surrounded by lush greenery, with an army of scantily-clad men with rippling abdominal muscles ready to attend to her every need.
No, wait. That's not true.
Lilian Monroe spends her days dangling her feet into her pool, while a scantily-clad pool boy with rippling abdominal muscles feeds her chocolate-covered strawberries and massages her back.
Okay, okay. You got me. That's not true, either. Let's try again.
Lilian Monroe lives at home with her two children, three dogs, and twelve chickens. Her husband likes to work shirtless in the back yard. His sweaty, gleaming abdominal muscles ripple with every movement and he—
I'm sorry. I have to stop. Fine, I'll admit it. That one isn't true either.
How about this: Lilian Monroe loves thinking about men with rippling abdominal muscles serving her hand and foot, and she wants you to think about them too! She is an avid reader, writer, and lover of all things romance.
She loves everything from bad boys to billionaires. Her books are packed with sizzling-hot heat, action, suspense, and everything from second chances to single dads. She hates cheating and loves a good happily ever after (and rippling abs).
This is the first book from Lilian Monroe that I have the pleasure to experience and I must say that I am happy that I did. This is a story of Liam and Ashley who both had some issues in their life that has damaged them. This was a enemies to lovers book and I love how those books pan out. You get to see the attraction take over and watch the hate turn to love. It is worth the time to read it and you don’t be disappointed. I can’t wait to read more by this author.
I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
I did not really like this. Ashley is a widow - from an abusive police officer. She's also the marketing person for a construction company who promptly fire her for cause at a work dinner. Which is weird and a lawsuit. Turns out she's the sister of lawyer Stella from book 1. About 5 mins afterward she's offered a job by a former Olympian who's a jerk and has a huge chip on his shoulder and runs his family's non profit. We eventually learn he's brothers with a man who will do anything to get elected mayor.
This was strange and I was not interested in Liam's d-bag-ness at all.
Liam is the rich boy who’s never had to do a day’s work in his life, he was allowed to run and win Olympic medals until the hole in his heart stopped that dream. Now he's running a charity to please his family and support his older brother’s political career.
Through chance he meets Ashley and he’s bewitched. She’s damaged from a violent marriage and a secret! Liam has to choose between her or his family, you have to read to see if he does the right thing. A nice read!
I read as an ARC and promise to give my true view and option.
Corrupt, Confessions Series Book 2, by Lilian Monroe
Ashley King is the widow of a police officer shot in the line of duty. Many consider him a hero, but a few know the truth that went on behind closed doors.
Liam Maguire is an Olympic gold medalist runner. His career was cut short when a heart defect nearly killed him. Now he works for a nonprofit that helps similar patients and their families.
Before Ashley was married, she worked PR for celebrities, artists, and athletes. Now she works as a Media Relations Manager for a large construction company with a lot less glamour until her boss fires her at an award ceremony. Liam is speaking at the same award ceremony for his brother who is running for Mayor. He is supposed to show a united front with his family so his brother can win the election. He would rather be drinking at a club than be there until he runs literally into and over Ashley. The chemistry is instant and nearly knocks them off their feet again. When he finds out she was fired, he offers her a job at his non profit and hesitantly she accepts. After a few weeks of working together neither can deny the attraction and begin an affair. When secrets come to forward about her past, does he protect her or his family? Walking away has always been his way but now that he has something to lose, can he? Is she worth losing everything?
This is my first book by Lilian Monroe, and I am adding her to my list of favorite authors. Ashley believed that she wasn’t strong enough, but she proved repeatedly that she was. She was nearly broken for years but survived. What is stronger than that? Liam was rich and spoiled and he just went though the motions most of the time. Well, until he meets Ashley and she gives him a purpose, to be better. He wants to feel worthy of her and most of the time he doesn’t. She gives him the confidence that he never knew he needed. I was worried that Liam wouldn’t be able to be redeemed but Lilian Monroe surprised me in the best way.
Corrupt is the perfect read in this second book of the Confessions series by the inimitable author Lilian Monroe. Great storyline full of intrigue, twists and turns with lots of romance to boot! Just what the doctor ordered for stress relief and enjoyment! Can these two wonderful main characters, who have broken souls get it together? Will Liam be able to stand up to his corrupt brother Adrian’s campaign for election for Mayor? Olympic medals and running is all Liam ever wanted, with no relationships and who never cared about love! Will Ashley ever get her New Beginning In her determination to move on in life or will Liam just use and abuse her in his selfish attitude to attain his trust fund? What are Liam’s choices for a more fulfilling future? Can he betray his brother? What is the secret Ashley holds? I voluntarily reviewed this book after receiving a free copy
Real fans of romance don’t need these insufferable Scooby Doo Mysteries at every turn. Just plain old run-of-the-mill romance is good enough for us. I wish it was good enough for these so-called ‘romance’ writers, too. But nope. Every other ‘romance’ I read lately, is like the writings of a famous detective....’s little brother, taking a first-time stab at it. And it’s never good. The ‘romance’ part was great. Scooby Doo just got too convoluted, too far from reality, and too big a stretch for me to even wade through to finish the ‘romance’ part of this romance. Without the ‘angst’ ‘mystery’, ‘suspense’, and ‘thriller’ parts, this mighta been 4 stars. With it all? One, because negative stars are not an option.
Thought this would be a bad boy meets tough women and they fall in love story. Nope should have know better. Author is skilled in weaving wonderful stories with characters that have depth that are “real” not perfect surface fairytale characters. I felt like they could be real people I know, with flaws and that have made mistakes. Wonderful. Now I not sure how I feel about reading a story about his snake of a brother but will trust in the author and give it a fair chance.
I received an arc for an honest review. Liam was from a very privileged family - however, he had to give up on his Olympic dreams, which left him "heartless." He took what he wanted and didn't care about anything. He them meets Ashley. Ashley has been hiding in pain for years. After the death of her abusive husband, she feels it is time to start over. This is a great read and I highly recommend it.
This was not good. Thankfully it was a short and quick read. There’s some vague corruption going on, but nothing has any substance. The plot and the romance was lacking. Also, Liam is not great. Ashley is fine. She probably deserves better.
‘Loathe at First Sight’ isn’t a good or accurate title. The previous title makes much more sense. It’s not bad because of the title, I just had to include that.
If only two people's lives could be lived in their own little perfect bubble. Once all the outside history and politics and shady dealings start leaving their mark it's sometimes hard to see that only each other matters. Ashley and Liam have a million of those outside hindrances! Getting it all together for just the two of them is the most difficult thing of all.
Loathe at First sight:An Enemies to Lovers Romance (Confessions Series)
I thoroughly enjoyed this book plus the sequel to the next one. Sometimes when you see a title it looks blah and you think the book will be the same but Wow. This book was explosive.
Five incredible stars for Liam and Ashley in Corrupt. Liam has lost his way and Ashley hasbeen through a devastating trauma. These books are absolutely incredible and I cannot wait to see what is in store for Stella and Adrian. You will fall in love with their story.
Living as I do in Britain, right now I need to be amused, so when I started this I groaned but I am glad I read to the end and I will continue with Stella's story next.
Enjoyable read, secrets get exposed - feelings develop but get crushed. Healing and a second chance but I think the best part of the book is the bonus epilogue, I literally peed my pants and laughed through it😂
This was an odd book. It wasn’t happy or funny — which the title kind of suggested. There were a load of continuity issues and lots of story strings left hanging. In short, it wasn’t awful but it wasn’t very satisfying.
Loathe at First Sight is a gritty, tense love story. It highlights critical points in abuse, corruption, and the strength it takes to stand up for your self.
