Finding the right book to help children and parents adjust to living in separate homes can be difficult. To help make the transition easier, we recommend "Weekend Warrior" series by author, speaker and mom, Juju Rafii. This book is designed to provide practical advice and strategies to help children and parents make the best of this new family dynamic. With examples of activities and thought prompts just for the kids on topics such as handling travel, maintaining relationships, and unconditional love, this book can be a valuable resource to help empower kids and parents to create a positive experience in their new living situations.
The Weekend Warrior series includes two Going to visit mom (about a boy going to visit his mom for the weekend), and Going to visit dad (about a girl going to visit her dad for the summer).Written by Jumana "Juju" Rafii, Illustrated by Mariana Gnatenko, and book designed and edited by Kristine Pierce.. This book is recommended for children ages 5-12 years and is a perfect family read aloud book. It showcases a rich vocabulary and vibrant illustrations from a very talented artist.
I liked the title thus I was tempted to get the book. But, it's abit difficult to tell whether the boy is telling his friend about his trip or its simply an abrupt continuation of the storyline (in the beginning of the book). There is also blue text asking the reader about what they like, of course each question is based on the what that particular page of the story is talking about.
Great read making normalcy of separation and travel
It was a great kids book, also comforting to parents to accept the hard choices of living away from your kids. Thankful we have the resources these days to see children despite the miles in between, also i personally believe it makes our children stronger to have to accept these choices and be brave to travel alone
