through the moon ! ☾ ‧₊˚ —third read ┆4.5 stars ┆graphic novel
ੈ✩‧₊˚ even though this was my third time reading this the ending still hurts 😭 no because i barely see anyone talk about the dragon prince like can we pls change that?? LIKE PLS PLS PLS WATCH THIS !!! it’s on netflix and there’s 63 episodes<3 i’m so so so invested in this plotline and care sm about these characters that i never get tired of watching this show (mostly because of rayla, how does it feel carrying the whole show on your back girlypops?) and all the dynamics and complexity between the relationships with these characters are so surprising for a kids show!! *cough* rayllum
ੈ✩‧₊˚ the ending of this graphic novel is really melancholy, but we do get tons of rayllum moments throughout this book and sweet moments between the characters ! tho it gets ripped out of our hands like what 😭 it felt like those special holiday episodes of your fave shows where you get a low-stakes plot with nothing just getting to watch your comfort characters<3 but if you want the ending to be surprising i recommend reading this after watching s3 and before s4 ! trust me on this one folks
ੈ✩‧₊˚ also the artwork in this one was amazing ! i spent sm time literally just admiring the illustrations, esp the rayla drawings 🤭 tho i’m pretty biased because rayla’s my fave character…also i love rayla’s old outfit and hair, lwk hate the rework 😭 and the writing was still so good even tho it’s a graphic novel, which is so surprising ! like the prose was amazing, and some of the quotes>>>
When I watched the Dragon Prince cast narrated the first few pages of this graphic novel at a Comic Con panel, I knew I had to read this. It does not disappoint. The artwork is really good, the story is as magical as ever. Phoe Phoe is adorable. I wished my fave character made an appearance but she did not. It being too short is my main and only criticism.
I'm so happy and relieved that this was a genuinely good read. It felt like cheating to be allowed to read it before the fourth season comes out, because reading it felt like watching an episode of the show. Everyone's just so in-character and I love Ezran's silly little jokes and how kind and sweet everyone is to each other. I love the magic and the artistry put into the settings and the escapist adventure feel that The Dragon Prince excels at. Every panel was packed with little character details.
It's a good graphic novel. It is, imo, very much worth reading before the next season comes out.
EDIT 11/2022: Lol, this graphic novel is like 1,000x better than season 4 itself. It was a major mistake for this book to not be the plot of season 4. This book ends on a cliffhanger, doesn't have a sequel, and goes virtually unaddressed in the actual show. I can't make sense of any of TDP's creative/business decisions. Mind-boggling.
I love The Dragon Prince show on Netflix so obviously wanted to read this but I did tread with trepidation. But I shouldn't have worried because this is great, from the art work to dialogue to magical story telling.
Callum, Rayla, Ezran, Soren, Lujanne, Phoe-Phoe all make an appearance. The story progression is after the third season so I do suggest watching the Netflix show first otherwise you'll be left wondering what's happening and you might not like it. But for the fans of the show, you are in for a treat. I don't think I can ever get enough Callum and Rayla together. The only issue for me here is that it is way too short.
Ignore the bad reviews!!! Most of them are from people who have never watched the series, if you have not watched the show do not read this, it contains spoilers from the series!
I’m gonna be honest, I didn’t really like this book much only because I didn’t really understand what was happening at times, and stuff about the characters.
Probably because I haven’t read the book series (I think) (The Dragon Prince) or watched the series to get an overview of what was happening.
I think I'm supposed to read this book, after the book series (I think), either way, I will, anyways.
My goal, is to reread it after I read the series (I think) or watched the series. So I understand it better, though the book wasn’t that bad.
I wasn't something I liked at this point in time
Last Thoughts... Not My favorite Will re-read it Wasn't that bad

It was great being back in this world with these characters.
We learn of the fate of one of my favourite characters and I really loved that this was included as well as Rayla coming to terms with the unknown fate of her parents and Runaan.
Ezran is adorable Soren is best boy Lujanne is hilarious and I love her boyfriend Callum and Rayla BROKE ME Kinda wish we coulda seen Ellis? And Claudia too tbh
This set up a lot for season 4 and I'm very excited to know what happens next
I really liked the character development in the comic and how it sets up some plots for season 4. It’s very clearly a Rayla-centric story so some of the characters were kind of just there, and the plot was very simple and straightforward, but I didn’t mind it much. The ending is the best part, because though it’ll definitely keep me up at night thinking about it (why???), I appreciate the amount of care put into Rayla’s character development, and how that ending will impact her not only in s4, but through the rest of the series as well. Great comic, really recommend it for fans of the show.
***WARNING!!! ---This story takes place fairly soon after the end of the 3rd season and MAY reveal spoilers for the 4th. Proceed at your own risk.
The battle of the Storm Spire is over!
The Dragon Prince is safe and has been reunited with his mother. The threat of the magically enhanced monster army of the five kingdoms has been ended with the death of Lord Viren and a new tenuous peace has been established between the human realm and the magical land of Xadia.
Ezren now sits uncontested upon the throne of Katolis... Callum continues to find the secret to a connection to the magic arcanums... Soren has returned to his position as the commander of the King's Guard... ...and Rayla's position in the world has become a nightmare as each day brings reoccurring dreams and terrors that plague her every moment.
But events of the past still drive the present as a return to an ally and advisor from the past brings new revelations as well as reveals a secret that may throws both worlds back into the horrors from which they have only newly emerged.
In this, the first graphic novel in a new set of stories continuing where the animated showe has left off, Peter Wartman has taken a story by series co-creator Aaron Ehasz and co-writer Justin Richmond and, with the artistic talents of Xanthe Bouma, given watchers and fans of THE DRAGON PRINCE a story that feels like the natural continuation from the end of season 3. There is no real discussion either in the book, or in the online description that I can find, that specifically states IF the STORY contained here will be part of the series canon --- though with Aaron having written the script for this book odds are good that it will play into season 4 in some form or another.
The characters here read exactly as they were fresh off the screen and new readers --- and continuing fans --- will hear the voices of their favorites characters as they journey through the 123 pages of graphic greatness.
This first book does end on a cliffhanger that will be continued in the Volume 2 scheduled for spring of 2022...and...with Season 4 still in its various stages of development and production, the odds are that this will be one of the venues for fans to continue the story until the 4th Season drops.
10/20/24 A few months back I watched The Dragon Prince seasons 1-6 with no idea that this graphic novel existed until after finishing Season 6.
This graphic novel does definitely answer some questions I had in regard to things post-season 3 and some events in season 6, but it's not required to enjoy the series. Although I must admit, it does help! I'm excited to rewatch 4-6 (specifically 6, iykyk) with the knowledge I now have.
Also, not to single anybody out, but I saw a review saying that the events of this aren't addressed in season 4. I disagree because... the first few episodes pretty thoroughly address the end of this story and how certain characters feel about it. It even explains bits of this story for those, like me, who don’t know this graphic novel exists. The review was written before seasons 5 and 6, but season 6 also addresses pieces of this novel in an obvious way.
Other reviews mention this, but it does genuinely feel like watching an episode of the show. There's some banter between Rayla and Soren at one point that I could genuinely hear. If you're looking for the Dragang being (mostly) happy after season 3, read this!!
This graphic novel is relatively short; I finished reading it in one sitting. If you're looking to own it, I recommend buying it on sale like I did.
Anyway, watch The Dragon Prince season 7 when it premieres on December 19 so we can get Arc 3 please <3
So, is this going to be considered part of the show canonically? I guess we can only wonder, until season 4 comes out which BETTER NOT BE THAT FAR AWAY *exasperated sigh*
Anyway, Rayllum is adorkable as always, we love Ezran and his animal sensibilities, and the themes of death, life, dying, grief, etc. always hit home. Plus the art was decent, so yeah.
Not rating this because I realized it's from the animated series which I haven't watched before, so I felt a bit lost but that's not the graphic novel's fault!
The art style was really beautiful, but not going to continue the series!
This graphic novel fills in the gap between season 3 and 4 of the series. Man my love for this universe, creatures, magic and the diverse characters is unreal. It's all so very wholesome to get fed with some more Esra, Callum, Rayla and Soren. Also did someone mention the reputation in here?
Bless Callum tho.

જ⁀➴ mini review: 𖦹 • my first reread didn’t hit as hard as my first time but then again i was trying to read as fast as possible because we had company coming over 😭 regardless i still loved this! the art is beautiful and i love rayla & callum sm <3 (to prove my love i will link my SEVEN HOUR RAYLLUM PLAYLIST for your enjoyment 😀) the ending of through the moon is tragic and melancholy, but it made me appreciate the relationship of rayla and callum and how beautifully complex it is (especially for a kids show lol). also the way i forgot soren was in this? love himmm 🫶 the bottom line is: WATCH. THE. SHOW. IBEGOFYOU 🙏 it’s on netflix and it lwk changed my life for the better and im not joking!

This is one of my favorite shows on Netflix, so the other day when a client came in to order these books for her kid, I got so excited and I knew I wanted to read it!!! I really LOVE how this book fits into the show, dealing with the loss of Viren, but the uncertainty of it all, and seeing how everyone is dealing with it. I think you see how these characters fit with each other in this time jump, how Callum is learning magic, and then also love seeing Soren adapting to them with this new reality!!! This is a great graphic novel to read and add to your experience watching the show!!!
Read for the Orilium Autumn Equinox (magical readathon) and the prompt for a Ordinary in "Restoration" - night sky on the cover :D

Me: please hurry i'll die without this
10 minutes later
911: We've got the book. Um . . . hello?
Me: *dead*
edit: read this a while ago and wow wow wow! pretty!! the art is so pretty!
Graphic novels are hard to rate for me. I mean I liked this one and after just finishing season 3 I liked jumping right back into the world, but the story felt short and vague. We didn’t see a whole lot and I kind of felt like the whole purpose of this story was to show that Viren was still alive. I honestly would have liked that to be the first episode of season 4, but it’s fine.
