Midnight Fae Academy #0

Ella's Masquerade

Rate this book
Once upon a time, a handsome prince asked the academy wallflower to the ball. She was blinded by the stars in her own eyes and the pitter-patter of her lonely heart. Little did she know this prince was no prince at all, but a villain disguised behind a charming smile.

Ella

There are no such things as fairy tales or happily ever afters. Not in my world. My reality is riddled with pain and loss and immense hatred.

Until him.
Trayton Nacht, the new transfer student at Darlington Academy.
Something about his darkness calls to me. The way his eyes glimmer in the night and the cruelty of his handsome smile.
With a single glance, he turned my world inside out. And now I can't get enough.

But what if he's just like the rest of them? What if this is all just another masquerade?

Tray

She stole my heart, once upon a time. Three years ago in an alley where she left me with a pair of sodden blue slippers.

Her life had been mine for the taking, until I discovered the fae magic lurking beneath her skin. Now it's time to recruit her, to take her to her fate.

But first, we'll play a little game.
One that will end in destruction.
Because f*ck fairy godmothers.

What Ella needs is a Dark Fae.
One who can help her burn Darlington Academy to the ground.
A Dark Fae like me.

Author Note: This is a dark Cinderella retelling with strong bully elements. This M/F PNR features a happily ever after ending and is also the prequel to the Midnight Fae Academy Why Choose Trilogy. Tray and Ella are important characters throughout the series.

This is a spin-off full-length novel to the Elemental Academy series but though set in the same world its a standalone read.
It's kind of loosely based around the fairytale Cinderella, intertwined with the fae and initially had undertones of a bully romance, very swiftly evolving into something else entirely.
Ella herself is a halfling: half midnight fae and half-human, Tray is Midnight Fae royalty here to ease Ella into her new reality and assist in awakening her dormant magic.
Initially, his efforts and way he went about this task sucked big-time, he across as a complete brain-dead dumb-ass who needed a quick kick where the sun don't shine.
I wanted to biotch-slap him just so badly.
Luckily after everything went tits-up and Ella's eyes were wide open in regard to his origins and most importantly her own he reevaluated his methods and ceased his idiotic reasonings, working with Ella and not keeping her in the dark, top points there Tray there's hope for you yet.
So Tray's contrite redemption and caring loyalty made up for his initial idiotic stupidy.
Yeh, his reasoning were flawed but his intentions were mostly pure and by the time I was past the 30% mark, I was most definitely team Tray all the way and I just adored the building dynamic and tension between these two potential mates.
So once again this author managed to pull me into the unfolding narrative with such ease and I read this in one single sitting.
This was just so deeply and incredibly intense especially when these two finally consummate there connection and bond as true mates.
I could feel the deep emotions, feelings and sizzle between them both and I really wasn't expecting that level of intensity here especially with me not being Tray's biggest fan at the start of this.
He totally managed to do a 360 on me his attentive and loving behaviour certainly making up for his initial bad first impression.
Finally, that finish was just so delicious and I just love it when those that totally deserve it get served there just desserts, feels fantastic.
I also loved the surprising turnaround on one person's part wasn't expecting that one at all.
Tray and Ella make such a fantastic Pair and I loved being a part of there special journey.
I also will look forward to bumping into them again in future books in this series.
This was such a great read and I enjoyed it a lot I definitely recommend this series and author she never lets me down.
I voluntary reviewed a copy of Ella's Masquerade.

Just how did I go from hating Tray to thinking he's the best thing since sliced bread?

This author's work never disappoints me. Her stories hold me spellbound, her characters step off the page and become my friends and her imagination just wows me. I really, really enjoyed this story and can't wait for the Midnight Fae series.

At first, I thought Tray was a real ass, particularly with his talk of "games" and his plans for Ella. However, he soon realised that would never be the correct way to introduce her to her future and I soon found myself genuinely liking him. He continued to tease and torment Ella but he also treated her with respect and love. He really is a swoon-worthy hero. Ella is an amazing heroine, snarky, strong and spectacular as all hell. She's really got the rough end of the stick but Tray offers her a future she never even dreamed existed.

I totally believed in their connection, they have a chemistry and passion that explodes of the page, leading to some very, VERY, steamy moments. The story is set mainly in the human realm, and involved some significant time jumps. Not only were all clearly labelled but they didn't affect the flow of the story either, instead, they allowed the pace to be maintained and avoided any tedious "fluff and filler".

This is a wonderful story, one I'm only too happy to recommend, and a great introduction to a new Fae realm. You don't need to have read any prior books that are linked to the series, and as a stand-alone, it's ideal for sampling both a taste of this author's amazing writing and getting to know the wonderful universe she has created.

I started this after finishing the Midnight Fae Academy series, so I already knew who Trey and Ella were. This book follows a part of their lives before they ended up at the academy.

Well, it was cute. I kinda wish that I'd read it before the main series instead of after, so that I could go from hating Trey to loving him, but it is what it is.

I love when characters take revenge on those who wronged them, which Ella does. But it was somewhat juvenile for how her classmates treated her. Then again, it's more fitting for high school than say, burning it to the ground (like she should've).

A thing that bugged me was how many times Trey explained his mission in his head during the beginning chapters. He's here to help, I get it, I don't need to be reminded a bunch of times.

Their romance was sweet. And it made me realise (after five books by the same author), that I really like books that don't have a or whatever it's called. It's nice to just enjoy the fluff.

As for the retelling aspect of the story, it was cool, but I do wish the original slippers made an appearance. I kept waiting for Trey to present them to her and it didn't happen.

I think I can safely say that this author is one of my favourites in this genre. Her flair for world-building and her tenacity for writing such complex but brilliant characters is a sight to behold. It’s like she knows what her readers want before they even utter a word.

Ella’s Masquerade is a clever take on the premise of Cinderella. There are elements of the same type of characters, for example, the ugly stepsisters, the typical tyrannical step-mother and the ill-fated masquerade ball. But what Cinderella lacked, for want of a better word, is the dark depravity. EM has this trope in spades. You’ve got the bullying, the sick and twisted students and the way they torment or completely ignore Ella’s plights.

That is until Trayton.

Here’s a character that isn’t afraid to shake up El’s perfectly miserable and unfathomable world. He has a no nonsense, devil may care, kiss my hole attitude. I LOVED him.

But then, throw in the whole fact that there’s this Fae element. A whole other world inside the only world Ella has ever known and it’s like a three for one deal. The kind of deal that you know if you don’t buy there and then, you will regret it for the rest of your days.

The only down side that I found was that it totally could have gone darker for me. That’s not a diss on the authors story but a reflection of my tastes.

Cannot recommend highly enough!

Why so little magic?!? This was boring. It’s just a HS Cinderella retelling with some biting and sparky fingers. Boo.

Academy books aren't really my things and the "bully" romance even more so. But this was a book from Lexi and I would read anything that she wrote. If she wrote a story about a wet paper towel and its adventures through the cosmos with its raccoon best friend, I would read the shit out of it!

But I digress, this is a take on the Cinderella fairy tale and was really well done. I have to admit I didn't understand Tray's initial logic with his 'game' but he really came through in the end. And Ella, god damn that girl has some strength. I am looking forward to her in the upcoming Midnight Fae series. The evil stepsisters were exactly that, mega evil. I feel that they didn't get enough retribution and personally I would have gone with Tray's initial idea of burning the school to the ground, with them in it.

Yeah, I will always recommend a book by Lexi no matter the subject matter but this is still an honest review of an ARC that I would provided with.

As a fairy tale retelling, this one ticks all the boxes for keeping to the original story and making it its own at the same time.

Ella is living in the h3ll her step-mother and step-sisters have created for her. The kids at school seem to revel in beating her down almost as much as the twin step-monsters.

Tray is a dark fae, Midnight Fae as he revels in reminding Ella. Filled with magic and with a penchant for drinking blood, he is not the teen he appears to be.

When Ella literally runs into him one night he is intrigued. Three years later he meets her in earnest and tries to awaken the fighting spirit he sees within. First, though, he must get through the cynical armor Ella has wrapped herself in.

Can he help bring this “princess” out of her shell and help her get not only her life back but a semblance of revenge against her tormenters? Or will cynicism and reticence keep Ella from believing in the love and affection Tray seems to offer?

I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this story. I look forward to what is to come with Midnight Fae Academy!

While this story is definitely based on the Cinderella fairytale, there is also very much a 10 Things I Hate About You vibe to it, and a very deliciously dark fae, magical twist to it. Ella and Tray’s relationship definitely starts off on a rocky foot, given Ella’s history with bullies and needing to protect herself, but when they finally get past all the mistrust, their relationship sizzles in every way possible. I probably took a little too much joy in the payback and revenge, but it was all so much fun to read. And the dynamic between Ella and Tray is fantastic, her snark and sass to his alpha, confidant ego; but underneath it all, we get her vulnerability, and his need to protect and support her, it what makes them such a great couple in the end.

Nicely written! Fantastic twists on fairytales and the link growth between the lovers is touching. I would have agreed to see more bloodshed but the endings for characters was satisfactory. 😀 great job! For 18+ age group.

I loved this book. I love how Ella and Tray have a connection from the beginning. I love how Tray helps Ella take down her stepsisters and stepmom and bullies. I love how they are mated and how she is accepted into the family. I love how they unlock her powers and teach her to use them. Great read.

Lexi's retelling of a fabulous faery tale with a twist takes us into the wonderful world of Tray, a dark fae Prince determined to protect his mate, if only she realised she needed protection and Ella, determined to protect herself from any more cruelty and certainly not in need of rescuing by any handsome prince. Until she realises that there's more to Tray than just good looks as he can help her unlock the secrets to her hidden magic and then it starts to sizzle! There's also the two ugly sisters, a cruel stepmother, your typical high school bullies.... This definitely isn't your typical teen drama story and is an enjoyable light-hearted, twisted take on an age-old tale!

I am often stunned by the intricacies of the worlds that come out of the mind of Lexi C. Foss, and this introduction to the world of the Midnight Fae is no exception. This book introduces the world with a Cinderella-like story. Ella is a feisty heroine who is learning about her new abilities, while Tray is the super hot, strong willed man who is teaching her. Their chemistry is off the charts hotter than hot, and the taste of the other characters we see in this story is a tantalizing glimpse that makes me eager for the rest of the series to be released. Read this one now, and come into the world of the Midnight Fae!!!

My first work of the author was the 'Elemental Fae Academy' series and I can safely say that that's one of my favourite ones because it had some of my favourite tropes in it. When I found out that the authors (Lexi C. Foss and J. R. Thorn) were each going to start a spin-off from that series, I was immediately intrigued and on-board with that idea.

'Ella's Masquerade' was kind of a prequel novel to the book 'Midnight Fae Academy' that is authored by Lexi C. Foss.

The MCs, Trey and Ella were just the kind of couple I love reading about. Both of them were sassy and smart and Ella, with her take-no-shit attitude made me seriously warm up to her the minute I started reading.

The bickering between those two. Ugh, don't get me started on it. I absolutely LOVED IT!!! I'm pretty sure I was smiling like an idiot the whole time I was reading this. Good thing my family is used to me. If I was somewhere else, people would be giving me weird looks for sure.

Treyton..... Hmmm..... What can I say about him? I say that he's an absolute keeper. And mine. He's on my permanent harem. Avert your eyes ladies. Maybe Dash will accommodate you.

Speaking of him, I wish we get to know more about him. In the end, my poor little naive heart felt so bad for him. Especially when we got to know that his feelings for Ella run deeper than just some random crush he wants to be with. I really wish the author would dedicate a novella or something for him. I wanna see more!!

Overall, this was an awesome read that I finished in one sitting (I'm not even kidding) and now, I'm totally amped and buzzed for the upcoming book. Especially since it's RH and features Kols, Trey's brother. We got a little insight into Kols' and Aflora's personality in 'Elemental Fae Academy' (We got to meet him here too) and it looks like Kols has a fun, flirty, cocky and confident personality that I absolutely adore in my male characters.

A must read.....

Last week I finished the Elemental Fae Academy series by Lexi Foss and J.R. Thorn and I fell in love with the characters and that world. The world-building was fantastic, the write excellent and the plot kept my interest from beginning to end. So now I am absolutely obsessed with this world and to know it's just one part of a megaverse with that will have more books set in this world by Lexi and J.R., to say I am excited is an understatement.

The midnight fae had a brief introduction in the Elemental Fae series but the true introduction is with the prequel to the Midnight Fae series, Ella's Masquerade. This book gives basic information on midnight fae but is a full story into itself, it's also a Cinderella retelling too but with fae and it amazing. I loved Ella, she struggled to overcome a tragic past all the while dealing with a problematic present with the evil-step family. However, she was determined to make it because she sees a better life for herself. Then enters Tray, a midnight fae that I am swooning over, seriously are all the fae in this universe this dashing or what because I seem to want them all.

Ella's Masquerade is a full-length novel that is just the beginning of the Midnight Fae story. Everything is so connected and I am looking forward to reading Aflora's (who had an appearance in the Elemental Fae verse) and seeing more of Tray and Ella. I am so excited to be diving into this series and learning more about the midnight fae.

Set as a prequel novel to Midnight Fae Academy, you meet Ella and Trayton, fated mates, but with one sassy heroine unaware of that development. This Cinderella-esk retelling (her name is Isabella Cinder...) was such a fun read! It centers on Ella, a half-ling part-human, part-Midnight Fae, who is completely unaware of her heritage. Living with a monster of a stepmother and two horrid stepsisters, Ella has learned to harden herself against anything thrown her way. When Trayton, Prince of the Midnight Fae, swaggers into her life, she thinks he is just like every other bully in her school. As he tries to convince her of her heritage and his sincerity, the sparks fly until they have to let their passion consume them, or kill each other.

The entire, violent ride was full of snark and sass. I loved their banter and a deeper look into Trayton and Ella. I read the Midnight Fae series first, so I was curious at their origins and was not disappointed. Especially by Trayton's violent nature, which I approved of. The stakes were not as high after reading about the potential end of the Midnight Fae in the series, but it was full of drama, steam, and learning how to open yourself up after being tormented your whole life. Fairy tale retellings can be so hit-or-miss, but I appreciated this version of how Cinderella got the guy and revenge...

I received this arc for an honest review. I loved this paranormal spin on Cinderella. Very dark and raw with characters exuding strong/heavy emotions of love and/or hate. Tray and Ella has such great chemistry together and their dance scene was heart pounding and hot! Also a “bully beware” element to this story that made me stand up and cheer; and a very sexy HEA. Great new world Lexi C Foss has created and she never disappoints.

I feel like I'm late to a bandwagon I should have jumped on long ago.

If Lexi C. Foss has a fan club, I want to know the dues to join such an elite membership! Ella's Masquerade is the second novel of hers that I read.

I am SO in love.

Retellings are hit and miss. Sometimes they rock some socks; sometimes they are plain rubbish. Success is not guaranteed, so I hesitate to pick them up.

I urge you to grab this. One-click it now!

Why?

Isabella Cinder is the butt of jokes and the object of scorn. But she doesn't take this lying down. She isn't a whipping girl, and she's honed skills of sarcasm and clap-back. The light at the end of the tunnel is in sight. Her abuse soon to stop. She is graduating and GTFOing this torturous high school life.

Then comes Trayton Nacht; possible tormentor?

No! Because he's come to deliver vengeance. For Ella. Because the Dark Fae's charging a high cost for sins against his Princess, and Darlington Academy is genuinely in debt.

Tray is fat with charm. This guy is the alt of the best of bad boys. Who doesn't love an antihero on a mission for the right reasons?

And Lexi C. Foss is a freaking goddess when she is creating these heroes. I don't know who her muse is, but her inspiration works overtime. I love Cain and Kat from Andorra Sector Lexi C. Foss's last book, and Tray and Ella are just as well written.

This book is what I consider Mature YA/NA. Ella's Masquerade is a high school bully book; the sex scenes are mature and graphic; not recommended for the younger audience.

Midnight Fae Academy is a trilogy, and this is the first novel. The next book will feature Tray's brother, the heir to the realm, Prince Kolstov, and is to be a Reverse Harem. There is a sneak peek at the end of Ella's Masquerade to tempt you further.

If you aren't interested in YA/NA story, try Andorra Sector, which is an Adult Dystopian novel set in the Omegaverse.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary advance copy of this book.

Of course, a Fae Academy book will never disappoint us.

Isabella (Ella) Cinder, Cinder, sounds like Cinderella, and yes she is one. With the death of her mother, her father soon found a evil stepmother with 2 bullying stepsisters, leaving Ella to the Stepmother and the 2 sister's care. In which she was acting as a maid, doing all the chores. Sounds familiar? Yep! Cinderella.

and at her school, Ella is also being bullied by 2 boys, Charles and Dash, her sister Ryan and Carmen, and the entire school who puts on the blind eye. One day a new student was transferred... Tray, who was assigned to be Ella's partner for an interview assignment and provided a bad first impression by forcing Ella into a ball and drowning her in swimming class. So she kinda didn't like him, but what did she liked was his kiss as she couldn't resist. The attraction? A connection between mates because it is fae :)

So why was Tray here? He is a midnight Fae who was assigned to awake his intended mate Ella's fae powers, and now Tray is making Ella to turn her life into a new direction, away from her past miserable life to punishing the bullies and leave to Fae Realm. Ella is a halfling - half midnight fae from her mother and half-human from her father. Tray lead Ella into the midnight Fae Realm to show her about the Midnight Fae, the academy and her mother, in which we also meet Prince Kol and Tray's parent. Ultimately Ella accepts and take in all the information and she seems to understand Tray's previous as- actions, in which their relationships begins to develop with chemistry forming, while trying to help Ella to release her power, which doesn't occur until.....

Anyhow Ella and Tray made the bullies and the stepsisters along with the whole school to pay for their actions, and left into the Midnight Fae Realm. Which was such a good scene/ I mean we can't say no to a good revenge lol

So this was short and fast paced, but a good read. Totally recommended, to those who likes Fae and Fae Academy romance, or a cinderella story and romance along with a good revenge :)

Ella has been bullied through out her whole life, high school is no different. She has two step sisters that seem to lead the cool kids in the private school and are her worst tormentors . Until the day Tray walks into school , he is so sexy and just the right amount of boyish charm and a glimmer in his eye that would make any girl in school melt . He has one mission in his life is to get the girl he ran into three years ago to fall for him and come into the magic that she has hidden deep inside . The dark fae that lies in her heart and then they together can bring down the school.
This book is the retelling of Cinderella with a fae twist . Ella is the shy stepsister that is the heroine of the story , she is constantly being bullied and she just wants to get away . She is stronger then she lets on but just doesn't know how to fight back . When she meets Tray she blossoms and finds out what she truly is . Tray well my goodness he is just like sex on a stick and has a way that will melt the panties off any girl he wants . There is more to him then meets the eye . He wants to be with Ella and help her and they fall in love and they are so adorable together . So for every good guy we have the evil counter parts and the kids of the academy are those . They are evil to the tenth power .
This is a great retelling of the Cinderella story . The story is well written and the characters are wonderfully written . There are some great twists and turns that will have you on the edge of your seat . There are times i have trouble with the retelling of fairy tales but this author has done a great job . This book will give you all the feels , there were moments that i actually teared up and felt for the main characters . The great part is that it is also a book with Fae sub story line . So if you want a good book to keep you sane during your isolation check it out ,

After becoming completely addicted to both ‘Elemental Fae Academy’ and ‘Midnight Fae Academy’ I always jump at the chance to read anything to do with this world.

‘Ella’s Masquerade’ is the prequel to ‘Midnight Fae Academy’ and starts out with a very fairy tale vibe mixed in with some bullying, being a fun, modern twist on Cinderella.

Continuity between this book and the Midnight Fae Academy trilogy is on point. Even though we all know how Cinderella pans out, this is still super fun to see through … and satisfying as Ella and Trey turn the tables on some bullies.

For anyone looking for another scrap of the Midnight Fae world, I’d recommend this book. I’d recommend it to anyone else as well. It does a great job of straddling both this and the human world and blending magic into reality.

The epilogue of ‘Ella’s Masquerade’ has a nice lead-in to ‘Midnight Fae Academy, Book 1’ but can be read before or after it. I recommend all the books in this world you can get your hands on!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Note:
I listened to the audiobook.
The female narrator took a bit of getting used to; she has a high-pitched voice and speaks in a sort of slow, patronizing tone. I expect she might be very well-suited to children’s narrations. Not unpleasant—just not my first choice for an adult read.
The male has a very pleasant voice, and smooth manner of reading; I found myself wishing he’d narrated the entire book alone. (I normally do like dual narrations, but am picky about voice and reading style.)
Overall well done. Though I might opt for the ebook next time I come across the female narrator in this instance.

Good and wickedly funny!

This Was a very good story I like the background given on Ella, and the soso one on Tray. I like to use of their names in the story cinder, Tremaine, Isabella, Charming etc! I'd like to romance between tray and Ella and that he gave her time and all the information she needed to learn about her fae background! What I'm not happy about is the fact that we never learned what lineage her mother was from, he briefly mentioned the 5 Out of 6 groups of dark fae-But never said which 1 she was from! Given the fact that I've read DFA 1st by accident, and given her final thought about Aflora, I'm assuming she's not as halfling as they think, or her mother side had a bit a quandary giving the colors of her flames (or her dad had/has some quandary in him) unless the flames of the other 2 groups are blue and it hasn't been mentioned as yet!. It also makes me wonder why her flame colors weren't mentioned in the first DFA book either by the council, or by Kols/Zeph given Aflora's flames in the next book!!
The story is a nice Bold & Hot Cinderella story! One of my Major pet peeves with the story is that there are inconsistencies between this book and the 1st DFA book, such as the amount of years fae live, Where/who they live on the campus, perhaps even Tray's coloring (eyes/hair), and where Aflora will be staying! It's romantic without being overly vulgar considering they are still in highschool! I also like the follow up on previous characters and the growth of one quasi villan!!

For most kids high school is an experience that we remember forever, whether for the good or the bad.
Ella's experiences at high school went South the minute she went to her first freshman formal. Since that night she's always kept to herself and learned to not engage the bullies as it just gives them the satisfaction of knowing they are getting to her. All she has to do is keep her head down and make it to graduations and she'll finally be free.
At least that's the plan until she meets the new transfer student.
Trayton Nacht. He's got a darkness about him that Ella just can't seem to put her finger on. He's handsome and for some reason enjoys pushing her buttons.

Trayton has ulterior motives for transferring to Darlington Academy. 3 years before a girl stole his heart and left him with no name and a curiosity that had him determined to find her again. However, after he finally learns who she is the life she's survived he's determined to see her come into the powers that she should've come into as well as get the revenge she needs against anyone and everyone who bullied or turned a blind eye.

I really enjoyed reading this one. I'm kind of sad that the book that follows this one is a reverse harem, it's just not really my thing. But who knows, maybe one day I'll follow up and read it. I will say one thing I would've liked to have seen is a more bloody revenge.

Cinderella wonderfully re-imagined!
Welcome to the halls of Darlington Academy home of Cindersoot

"I do hope you want to stay and play for a while."

I didn't want to leave Ella and Tray.
This is the first episode in the Midnight Fae series. kind of an intro into the midnight fae world if you will via our darling Ella's tale.

This is not your normal bully romance nor is it your run of the mill fairy tale redo
No - This is pure magic cast out to ensnare and engage the audience
I was laughing, cringing, battling down my anger and cuddling my kitten when things got rough.

Tray and Ella were perfect together
Their chemistry
Her stubborn nature
Tray's unending patience
Her strength
His need for bloodshed ( seriously he would rather kill them all quickly and be done with it. Kind of sexy)

Then there are the hall's reigning monarchs
Charlie - Ewwww - I think Tray had the right idea here
Dash - prince charming needs a personality makeover
Ryan - the vilest of stepsisters
Carmen - the airhead step sister

From beginning to end an enchanting read that only left me wanting more.

Love this story!

This book is the prequel to the Midnight Fae Academy series, and I am HOOKED. Can’t wait to get started on the series.

This is typical academy fare. What is different is that our FMC, Ella, is human, attending a human high school academy. She doesn’t know she’s a halfling . . . Half fae, half human. But she’s going to find out, and soon. There is some bullying, and some righteous vengeance, and I’m here for it all . . . Especially the mean girls, y’all know how much I love a jealous mean girl. The mean girls here are Ella’s stepsisters. Yes, this is a light homage to the story of Cinderella.

The MMC, Trey, is a dream and the chemistry between him and Ella is the stuff I live for in a romance book. I enjoyed this prequel novella so much, I have downloaded the first 2 books of the series and moved them to the top of my reading list.

While the book doesn’t end on a cliffhanger per se, it does set up the events for the first official book in the series - which takes place in the midnight fae realm. I highly recommend this book and think you find it as thoroughly enjoyable as I did.

AUDIOBOOK REVIEW 🎧 (ALC)

Once again Lexi C Foss managed to make me love her story and characters, she's my favourite author when it comes to this genre, and she doesn't disappoint with this book.

I loved Tray and Ella, even though at the beginning Tray behaviour made want to make him see some sense, because he wasn't doing things right towards Ella. But I like that things change pretty fast and everything got into place for things to workout perfect for both of them.

Ella was amazing, she's strong and despite all she endured she never gave up and and I am so glad she got her HEA with Tray.

The story flows perfect, it's a little bit of a Cinderella retelling but instead of a Faerie Godmother we got a wonderful Fae.

The narration was really good. It's my first time listening to Kirt Graves and he did a great job with the performance. Lessa Lamb was perfect, she's fast becoming one of my favourite narrators, she really brings the characters to live and I love her performance.

An entire world of sexy males with penchants for biting. Talk about a real-life wet dream.

A cute little prelude and spin on Cinderella! But with Fae and fangs. Not fangs but biting. I mean, who doesn't like biting. 🤣 I definitely enjoyed this one and look forward to the series to begin. Midnight Fae Academy is set in the same world as The Elemental Fae Academy. I'm addicted to reverse harem right now, so I'm eagerly waiting. I prefer a darker storyline, and I think this series will lead to that, hopefully. But nonetheless, this one set the stage for an interesting view on non-vampire, blood drinking fae. I already know Foss can build a fantastic world, just judging by her other works.

Anyway. Fast-paced novella that introduces a whole new world to dive into. I usually don't like the high school bully romance, picky here, but I managed not to roll my eyes in this one. And I definitely loved the dynamic between the mains, the banter, and the sizzle.

So, I read this after Midnight Fae Academy books and I recommend reading this book before those. I sorta felt like this was a waste a little. I mean we know how things go for them this is just their journey there. To be honest a lot was kind of unnecessary. I think it's okay to do this book but it really dragged on. Basically in a nutshell it's about Ella being severely bullied all through school and at home. Then she gets revenge at the end. This is very highschool. Has a major feel of Carrie. Then of course Cinderella. I don't know, when you know them from MFA this just seems weird. I definitely wasn't a Trey fan in this book. He was a jerk not the guy I loved in the other series. I didn't hate him but yes I am not a fan of this one. I don't like how it was presented and to be honest I feel kinda ruined if that makes sense.

Ella’s Masquerade: A Midnight Fae Academy Prequel

Ella’s Masquerade: A Midnight Fae Academy Prequel ~~ This prequel delivers a captivating glimpse into the Midnight Fae world before the main series begins, offering rich backstory and insight that enhances the entire reading experience. Ella’s journey is filled with mystery, magic, and an undercurrent of danger that keeps the tension high. Lexi C. Foss masterfully creates emotional depth and intrigue in just one book, making this a must-read whether you’re starting the series or already deep into it. The writing is lush, the pacing tight, and the romantic and magical elements blend beautifully. I loved how this book added clarity and emotional weight to events hinted at later in the series. I definitely recommend this series ~~ absolutely loved it!! ❤️❤️
