Bjorn Kyvansson was never supposed to outlive his brother.
After his older brother Sterlig dies on the mysterious island of Eydis, it falls to Bjorn to avenge his brother. But Bjorn, along with his abusive father and his anxious mother, is content to suffer with his lot in life.
That is, until Arja Freydottir, Sterlig’s beloved, decides to go to Eydis. Bjorn reluctantly agrees to accompany her, knowing he has no right to Arja, as Sterlig’s intended bride, no matter how much he loves her himself.
But as Bjorn and Arja spend time together preparing to face the dragon of Eydis, it becomes clear that it is not a matter of honor keeping them apart, but the truth.

A fantastic read that read that really pulled the heart strings. It's a real page Turner. I love the World building and Character building as wel. The Scenes are written so well that I can vividly picture them in my mind. This would make a fantastic Movie. And I definitely recommend it. Shauna Joesten
I received this novel as an ARC from Ms. Johnson. Thank you! all thoughts and opinions are my own. An enjoyable read that brings together myth and truth. There is always some truth in legends, but there is also much that is hidden or is deceptive. Bjorn lives in his brother's shadow, whom is now dead and he feels guilty, even though it was not his fault, he is rather honorable. Arja is the woman Bjorn loves, but has never told her. Arja acts first rather than thinks, for she is a warrior maiden who wants to avenge Bjorn's brother's death. This novel brings two people together on a perilous journey that could change everything as they prepare to enter the island of a dragon and bares many secrets. Arja and Bjorn will need to discover the truth behind the legend to do what needs to be done.
Love ...do you believe ? Yes even if it's forbidden it will endure.I am an Honest ARC reviewer, and I enjoyed this book by C.S. Johnson. Enough adventure and battle to mesh the romance. I think you'll like this one.
A thrilling adventure with interesting mythology and a fascinating battle between Good and Evil. I also liked the character growth of the female MC. She transformed from an impulsive girl into a strong woman. It was my pleasure to receive this ARC and give my honest review.
Nonstop excitement, adventure, and a powerful love story awaits between the pages of this book. I was captivated from the first page to the last, and loved every second of this wild ride.
This story had me from the start. It lightly touches on mythology but mostly deals with legends and the idea of what makes up legends. Action, a bit of romance, beliefs, a look at what motivates us and what protects us. A great mix of many things.
This is another wonderful book by this author. I've read several of her books and each is better than the previous one. This one includes dragons, vikng lore, and the heartache of forbidden love. I love fantasy books and Ms. Johnson has never failed to provide it in large amounts.
Hard to believe that Arja is really in love with Bjorn & not Sterling. There is quite the adventure as the 2 of them go to the island of Eydis to slay the dragon & free Sterling soul. I'm glad there is a HEA. Another great adventure & such imagination from the author.
I am totally blown away by this author's ability to make you feel the emotions being expressed by the characters in her books. Her range of interest is also staggering. I never expected Viking lore based on the other books of hers that I have read. However, she weaves the tale masterfully, with excellent characters, wonderful storyline, adventure, humor, love... it is all there ready to take you on a wonderful ride. I was given this book as a ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.
I had to get past my initial dislike for the protagonists in this book, but like the Starlight Chronicles by the same author, I grew to enjoy them as I got to know the backstory. This is not a deep and reflective novel but an entertaining sword & fantasy, so if you're looking something that will be a fun read that include vikings, I recommend this book.
After Sterlig's death on the island of Eydis when he went to battle the dragon, and free the bride, his brother Bjorn, Arja his beloved and her brothers Finnur and Jon were being haunted by his ghost which came through the sword which had tasted the dragon's true blood. Bjorn though living with his abusive father who almost blamed him for his favourite son's death, and his mourning mother tried to put the nightmares behind him by working harder than usual, but Arja seeing how badly her brothers were being affected by the nightmares wanted to put a stop to this, and she decided to go to the island herself. Obviously seeing her attempt this, Bjorn being the honourable man that he was decided to go with her against his better judgement, and Finn got roped in too. On the island they met Ana, the young girl who was so creepy, and the only child on the isle, and Pyri who said she was the Princesses daughter and untainted by the dragon. Bjorn and Arja go to battle the dragon, and find out that a lot of the legend was based on lies, and that killing her would not be enough to free Sterlig or the people on the island who were all thralls to the princess, from the curse. Arja had a secret she had to tell Bjorn before their relationship went any further, and she discovered that not all legends were lies, some legends were honourable man and the only way to win their battle was through facing the truth! I really loved this book, the courage Bjorn and Arja displayed when facing the dragon and the demon, and their will to protect one another and protect their love. The haunting and creepy magic of the island of Eydis is well depicted.
This is a sweet coming into their own, clean YA story.
Arja is a very independent vocal young lady who was promised to Sterlig, Bjorn’s older brother who was killed while away.
Bjorn is the younger son that never seemed to measure up in his fathers eyes. A turn of events has them on the outs and Bjorn sets out on his own.
These two have been dancing around each other for a while and neither is willing to admit to their mutual attraction.
The past has a way of catching up to the future and boy it does so in spades in this book.
Once Arja and Bjorn stop poking at each other and start working together they unravel the demons that are buried within and without.
For the most part the story moves at a moderate pace and picks up a bit towards the end. Both characters are likeable and you do invest in their adventure and hope they will find their way to an HEA before it’s too late.

I think this may be one of my favorites by the author.. thank you C.S.Johnson for sending me this book to review. Bjorn our hero is the only son left in his family. The girl he loves was his now deceased brother’s ex fiancé. Her brothers went with Bjorn’s brother to kill the local Island’s dragon. Thus a curse is on not just her brothers but on Asja and Bjorn. So they leave the sick brother, their families and embark on a trip to the island to defeat the dragon. To not disclose anymore info I will say it was a fast, light read with all the major fantasy elements to make the story a fun read. It is a good book for young adults and young in heart young adults.
The story line was good, the character work was great, and the book had a smooth flow to it. I was hooked from beginning to end. I'm eagerly waiting for the next one.

I found another story that caught me at the first page and held me entranced throughout the book. Loved this one and my hat's off to this author for another great book
I received a copy of this book from the author, for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I was so hyped for this book after reading the prequel and thought that this one was going to be great. I think I let my expectations get in the way, and I was let down by this one.
Don’t get me wrong, this was a good story, however, I may have expected too much, or it could have been the fact that I really did not like Arja at all. I thought she was a horrible person and did not deserve Bjorn at all. She treated him horribly for no apparent reason. In the prequel, she was described completely differently, so I thought I was going to really like her.
The Plot of the story was good, I just happen to be a character-driven reader. If the synopsis sounds good to you, I would suggest giving this story a try.
