James Hunt's passion for writing began at an early age. While his journal of yesteryear may never be the work of great fiction, he's been working hard every day since then to bring pages to life. James has well over a decade of writing under his belt, but his professional career in literature didn't take off until 2014.
James currently lives in Orlando, FL and when he's not pounding away at the keyboard you can find him at the theater or somewhere outside enjoying the beautiful Florida weather.
Missing Piece starts out with a nail biting sequence in an abduction case Jim and Kerry have been working. From there it goes right into their next case, a missing person case, that hits close to home.
Missing Piece is a suspenseful and intriguing race against the clock to find a missing person, all the while saving countless lives. This book moves at a good pace. I think parts of the premise might be a bit far fetched, but crazy, horrible things happen like this on a large scale. The book does deal with a sensitive subject, child sex rings and child abduction, but I really appreciate that the author did not go into details. I have a hard time reading, and won't read, overly gratuitous violence, especially against children or animals, so I like how this author deals with the subject matter.
I think James Hunt has hit on a great team with North and Martin. I have enjoyed the first two books and look forward to the third.
Ok the story was pretty good. But I do have a problem with both book one an book two that they are all about Jim. Hopefully the next well be more about the case.
I'll give it 2 and a half stars because the story was good, but oh dear the writing was so clunky. When it started with full descriptions of what our two heroes were wearing and what they looked like I knew I was in trouble. Worse by far was the continual reptition of Jim and Kerry through each paragraph and sometimes in the same sentence. Very distracting, grating and annoying.
Jim North and Kerry Martin, detectives with Seattle’s missing persons department get a case that hits close to home as a child in the care of Jim’s foster parents, the Swishers, disappears and then Roy Swisher is accused of terrible crimes.
This book could have used a better editor. There are some obvious errors (hair lip?) and repetitive language throughout and though the book takes place in Seattle, it might as well be Dullsville, USA. Considering the book’s subject matter, child sex trafficking, which is very important, I thought when it came right down to it the author was too afraid of the subject to do any more than a glancing reference, which was a lost opportunity. There weren’t any references, glancing or otherwise to the fact that Kerry has a husband and children of her own at home, which was odd. I don’t think I’ll be continuing on in the series. Available on Kindle Unlimited .
You know, I love a good, and easy read. James is a very good storyteller. But dude, hire someone who will earn their keep because I almost did not get the second book because of the grammatical errors and different names for body parts. I'd point them out, but then I'd be doing the work for you. And, I don't come cheap! I hate reading a dang good book and then have to go, what?, who are we talking about, what are we talking about? I mean, come on, at least get the names, words, etc. right. Sheesh! I don't do reviews simply for this reason. PEOPLE DONT' PROOFREAD!!! I've been reading since before I was three and the last couple of decades it's like people just flat don't care about the integrity of their work. So dang sad.
This is book two in the North and Martin Abduction Mystery series and starts with the disappearance of a young foster boy called Rudy, from his school. He didn’t turn up at school and his foster parents call one of their previous foster children, Detective Jim North and he visits them to gather information to find out what happened to Rudy and to find out where he is. Jim’s partner is Detective Kerry martin, who is some ten years his senior and has taken almost fifteen years to gain her detective badge, mainly due to her father’s past. He was a decorated policeman who turned bad! He was into drug running, shipping of guns and many other bad things which led to the death of hundreds of people. He is now in jail, long term and Kerry has nothing to do with him.
Kerry is Jim’s first proper partner and they seem to work well together. Jim almost didn’t turn out so well. He was deserted at birth and has been unable to trace his parents. He was in a number of foster homes and places, some of which left some really bad physical and mental scars on him, until he was placed with Ray and Mary Swisher when he was about fourteen. They managed to get him to turn his life around and get his education on track. He looks on them as his real parents and keeps in regular touch with them and their current foster kids, as much as he can with his heavy work load.
Jim hasn’t managed to learn how to live a normal life as such, he is reluctant to let anyone into his personal space and doesn’t really do relationships. The local coroner has a thing for him, and his partner teases him about it, but he refuses to bite. He really has no idea how to react in that sort of situation. His main work is missing people cases and both he and his partner have been extremely successful with their cases and have a near perfect record in solving their cases. They soon get a new case and this leads to a case that has very close links to Jim and his past.
His foster father is arrested for a nasty type of crime, which he denies completely and which Jim knows he is innocent of. But it seems someone is playing with parts of Jim’s past and using these to involve those in his life. A strange mark on the body of a young boy found in an old foster facility, the location of which was found from a clue in Rudy’s hidden possessions, soon lead them on a wild goose chase. Someone is pulling the strings, but what the end game is, is anyone’s guess!
This book deals with a lot of the nasty side of life and makes for some hard reading in parts. Both Jim and Kerry are great characters, both having a past that still haunts them, but for different reasons. They deal with sometimes the sickest side of the missing person cases, often cases involving children and this latest case is no different. There are sick individuals out in the world today and determined investigators are needed to track them down and see that they get what they deserve! Another great storyline in this series and one I would recommend to all, but it does have some disturbing issues in it. I can’t wait to read some more books by this author, in whichever genre they write. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout, but have also bought it as well, it was so good!
Missing Pieces by James Hunt, is the 2nd in this series and it surely does not disappoint! Detectives North and Martin have been paired for good reason. They aren't well liked by other cops and it's because of the baggage they carry with them. Despite the past that is out of their control, they're really good at their jobs, which is finding missing children and bringing the perps to justice.
Just off of a case, they find themselves thrown into another, much closer to home. Jim gets a call from his foster parents, the only parents he's known and loved. One of their foster children, Rudy, has disappeared. Things go from bad to worse, when Jim's foster dad is arrested for despicable crimes against children. This is everything Jim and Kerry have spent their careers fighting against. It can't possibly be true, yet there is evidence. What follows is a riveting story of revenge, terror, and breathtaking trust. Both Kerry and Jim will be taken to their limits while they try to out maneuver a psychopath. Definitely hard to put down!
Missing Pieces is book 2 of the “A North and Martin Abduction” Mystery Series. It is a fantastic read. Once I started reading it, I couldn’t put it down.
The book is about two detectives paired together in Seattle’s Missing Person Division. When his foster parents, Ray and Mary Swisher become concern because Rudy, one of their foster kids, has disappeared, Jim is called. As Jim and Kerry (his partner) investigate Rudy’s disappearance, they discover more than they could have imagined. The story takes you into the world of exploited children, the Department of Child Services and Jim’s own past. This book had so many twist and turns, heartache and tragedy. Along the way, Jim discovers his past and finds out how lucky he was to have foster parents who gave him a home, love and stability.
Some truths are better left buried. When Rudy Montgomery disappears from his foster home early one morning, his foster parents, Ray and Mary Swisher are concerned. They decide to contact one of their grown children who happens to be a detective in Seattle's Missing Person Division. But as Jim North and his partner, Detective Kerry Martin, investigate Rudy's disappearance, they discover a far more nefarious plot.
This is a brilliant read. Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believeable. Great suspense and found myself second guessing every thought I had continuousluy. Can't wait to read what the author brings out next. Recommend reading.

A brilliant, thrilling police procedural and crime thriller!
A book that starts with the rescue of a child takes the reader on a whirling , rousing journey of trying to locate missing children who have been badly abused with Detectives Jim North and Kerry Martin. They discover that one of the foster children has left a clue of GPS coordinates! The adventure continues as they go on discovering terribly, shockingly abused children ! How Jim and Kerry pursue the villains relentlessly at great risk to themselves and achieve the goal of breaking one of the biggest ring of child sexual abuse forms the content of this fabulous book. The narrative is gripping, absorbing and the characters are heartwarming and appealing! One of the best books I have read in the recent times!!
This is an awesomely riveting story written by one of my favorite authors. I had not read the first book in this series so I went and purchased it so that this book would make more sense. Both books are fantastic. Jim and Kerry are very believable characters and the story has an unfortunate realistic ring to it - simply because kidnapping is horrible and I cannot even begin to imagine the pain for the families. Great read!

This is a great police story, but a better life story. I sincerely hope that the series continues. The main police story was about a sex ring centered around orphans in the foster system. Absolutely horrendous in its description. The head honcho had some of his own children serving the sex trade. Not to spoil anything, I'll stop there. North and Martin both have troubled childhoods, but this fact never stopped them from pursuing justice - even at their own peril. Great reading, but not for the faint of heart.
The lack of editing and proof-reading nearly did me in. I give the author a great deal of credit for putting in the work of trying to weave a great story on an incredibly important and timely topic, but there's a good reason folks do proof-reading and editing for a living. It's important! There were too many times that the wrong person was referenced when speaking which was confusing and choppy. The basic bones of a good detective story was there, but the actual detective parts felt rushed while repetitive (and often unnecessary) descriptions abounded.
The whole premise of this novel involving child abductions was creepy, and some scenes were hard to take, but this is definitely a good mystery. Interplay between primary characters was well written, and the story moved along at a good clip for the most part. There were some interesting twists and the final “just in the nick of time” conclusion was a little too pat, but this book is definitely worth reading if you like a policeman-with-a-vested-interest type of crime solving mystery.
I loved the story line. I loved the character, I loved the twists and turns. But the darn errors were a problem. I understand it's an indie publication, but in one part they identified a character as Barry and on the next page referred to him as Ben. Also he and she got mixed up a lot which made it confusing as to whom the author was referring.Other problems with redundancy and improper use of grammar made the reading a bit less enjoyable which is why i give this book a four. I am still going on to read book 3 in the series.
I've read a lot of books written by James Hunt; he has done a great job at writing a good book; he is one of my favorite authors and I can’t wait to read more of his books.
The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.
I loved the characters.

Battered children, then sold as sex slaves! Who is to help them?
This is a second book that I have read by this author; and again I couldn’t put it down until I read the whole story. The author keeps the detectives human, and as the story line twists and angles off, the reader isn’t sure of what the outcome will be. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and look forward to the next.
Missing Pieces (A North & Martin Abduction. Mystery Book 2)
Goody, goody. I loved this book by author James Hunt. So much suspense & action packed situations for Det. Jim North & his partner Det. Kerry Martin. And to find out who the leader is of a child trafficking crime ring in Seattle, Washington is mind blowing. It's all in their DNA. Loving this series 100%. I would recommend these 📚 to others.
James Hunt did a good job on Missing Pieces especially considering the subject, child pornography and trafficking. The book had the usual small errors that I have come to expect in any online book. Why don't they use proof readers? I am retired and would love the job. But overlooking the errors I found this to be a really good book and I believe most adult readers will as well.
Missing Pieces- A North and Martin Abduction Mystery by James Hunt is an awesome story that I have read. This is book number two out of three in this awesome series. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about thrillers, mysteries and suspense.

James Hunt is now near the top of my list of favorite authors. Missing Pieces is the first of his books I have read, but as soon as I finish this review i will be searching for more. His characters are believable. I like to see the good guys win and evil be defeated. James Hunt’s writing style makes reading enjoyable
THE MISSING PIECES- is a really great roller-coaster-ride of a story! The first chapter started with a feeling that I've read the book before, and as it progressed upward and crested the rise... tilting over the top plunging down at rapid speeds which kept me gripping and grinning through twists and turns, heading towards the climatic end. Whew! What a ride.
This book kept me gripped throughout. I love the main characters and the development of them as you read on. They are real people with all of the foibles that we all have and more believable because of it. Gritty storylines that keep you hooked. Can't wait to find out what happens next!
I was completely hooked from the beginning. I couldn't believe the terror children have. While some find good homes, there are still many waiting for adoption. Then there are those that get adopted that are still in a living hell. You get all of their lives told in this book!
As a previous Foster parent this was a very close to home scenario. It is absolutely atrocious what so many Foster children go through. I liked you handled the story situations without being crude. I also appreciated that foul language was minimal. You held my interest.
A Difficult read due to the subject matter but well written
Found this book difficult to read and finish due to the subject matter. The author does a great job keeping you interested in the story as I stopped reading this story a number of times but came back each time to follow the plot to the end.😱 I was so glad the main character ended up happy.
Wow this book went in a direction I was not expecting but it was one that held my attention until the end. I love the relationship between North and Martin and hope this series continues for a long time. Great job Mr. Hunt you have gained a fan for life
Wow what a great thriller of a book. The relationship between Jim and Kerry and the trust that comes through the story makes you want to keep digging through the book. It is a heart wrenching story that you know could very well be true today. It's a real thriller that I couldn't put down. Looking forward to reading more.
There are grammatical errors, typos, affect instead of effect...that kind of thing. The idea was good, but getting through the plot was tedious. How did Ray get out of jail, by the way? And how did the kids get branded? How'd he do that? It made no sense. Lastly, never, ever say so-and-so and I's. That is so wrong.
