When Ruth gets set up on a blind date with Carter Wilson, she agrees to go out with him as a favor to a friend. But she's not interested in Carter. He might be the most attractive man she's ever known, but he's too rich. Too indulged. Too nice all the time. Right now, her career comes first in her life, and even if it didn't, she's looking for a man with rougher edges.
Plus, she suspects he might still have a thing for a woman he can never have.
Carter wants to get his friends and family to stop trying to fix him up, so he suggests a scheme that might help them both. They can pretend they fell in love and fake an engagement until Christmas. His friends will back off, and she can use the social events in the very wealthy town of Green Valley to line up a lot of new contacts for her interior design business.
All she has to do is pretend she's going to marry Carter. It should be easy. It's not like she'll ever be his bride for real.
Noelle handwrote her first romance novel in a spiral-bound notebook when she was twelve, and she hasn't stopped writing since. She has lived in eight different states and currently resides in Virginia, where she teaches English, reads any book she can get her hands on, and offers tribute to a very spoiled cocker spaniel.
She loves travel, art, history, and ice cream. After spending far too many years of her life in graduate school, she has decided to reorient her priorities and focus on writing contemporary romances.
Reread: Still just as sweet and romantic as I remember. This couple were just so perfect for each other and watching them fall in love for real while they faked their way through was aaaahhhmazing! Definitely a great read for the holidays.
Original: This was a great sweet, smexy, fun Christmas romance!
Ruth was quite unique from other heroines I’m accustomed to from this author. I loved that she was so forward and known to speak her mind. And yet, the very thing I loved about her, was the thing that tended to keep her isolated. Her loneliness hurt my heart and I wanted her to find her own circle of friends that would always be there for her.
We are not given Carter’s point of view and I did struggle a tad with exactly what he was feeling, experiencing or thinking. Usually, I never struggle with that issue when reading a Noelle Adams book, but Carter tended to keep things close to his chest. However, that never affected my enjoyment of the story.
I loved Carter and Ruth together as a couple. The fact that they are a couple, even if a fake couple, throughout the book was like the icing on a delicious slice of cake. Watching them fake date and knowing they were both in the process of falling into the real deal fed my heart all it desires. They were just so dang cute together.
While most of this is what I’m accustomed to with a book by Ms. Adams, this one was written in such a way that it felt unique and fresh. Add in so many fun moments, wonderful secondary characters, and some serious sizzle and I fell completely in love with everything about this book!
Nawwwww, I loved this! I can totally see this as a movie: fake dating/engagement, relatable leads with great chemistry, and *multiple* singing scenes. Slightly prickly heroine, nice guy (but imperfect) hero, very organic relationship development. Just the right amount of cheesiness for a holiday themed romance.
I enjoyed this fake engagement romance, part of the author's Convenient Marriages series. Ruth and Carter get set up on a blind date, and Carter is tired of his friends and family trying to set him up with different women, so he gets Ruth to agree to pretend to be his fiancee. But Ruth has been lonely for a long time, and being welcomed into Carter's circle of family and friends starts to feel a little too much like coming home. She worries that her developing feelings for Carter are going to end in heartbreak, all while Carter is of course, starting to feel things for her too. They are attracted to each other and this leads to some sexy scenes, though they both try to maintain the facade that it won't lead to anything changing in their agreement to be fake partners. This is a low angst, very enjoyable romance with two people who turn out to be just right for each other, and their happy ending is well deserved.
I loved Carter. He was so tortured over past mistakes and he deserved his HEA. I think Ruth is his missing half, they are so perfect together. I really loved their story.
The first thing that popped into my head when I learnt that the heroine's name is Ruth:
It was a sweet read but honestly I wasn't that engaged in this one. I liked the characters and everyone knows that I am a real sucker for a fake relationship trope.
However.
I think it was all this singing and dancing that threw me off and I just couldn't snap out of it for the rest of the book. Plus, I just didn't feel that much connection between them.
Everyone else seems to have enjoyed this one more so it could be just me being me, and not the book. And although I liked the heroine, Ruth, I must admit she started annoying me by the end. But Carter was a sweetheart so that evened it out.
But a huge plus for Summer & Lincoln's reappearrance from book 4, Wrong Wedding, I absolutely loved them!
And so to end up on a positive note, I'll round it up to 4 stars. Because all in all, it was a pleasant read.
Carter Wilson is tired of well-meaning friends and family setting him up on dates. He's had a bad year but that doesn't mean that needs love in his life to cheer him up. However, he agrees to one last blind date.
Ruth isn't sure that Carter is going to turn up. Whilst this might be a blind date she is aware of who Carter is, after having a crush on him and his bad-boy brother in high school - although they were already in college etc. She's not had much luck on the dating front, a little too honest and forward for the guys she goes for. She's still coming to terms with the death of her month so why would she need a man in her life?
During the date, they talk about being set up etc and Ruth suggests that Carter gains a fake girlfriend or better still a fake-fiancée to keep his friends and family off his back. With nobody to ask he dismisses it until Ruth agrees to step up and help him. They embark on a series of fake dates and find it easy to be in each others company. With a proposal to make you gush they are managing to fool everyone, but it's all fake - right?
A beautiful Christmas read of fake romance that has both parties dealing with issues from their pasts.
Christmas Bride has two of my favorite things. Christmas and fake relationships. It's an odd combo but also a pretty romantic story.
What started out as a fake relationship to get others to back off of setting Carter up on blind dates, turns into a couple who actually date and get to know each other without any pressure.
There was no first judgments that could interfere with moving forward. They still dated without feeling the need to impress each other. They truly got to know each as their real selves.
The only downside to this is when real feelings develop, there is that hesitancy to express them in fear that the other doesn't feel the same.
I was just as anxious as Carter and Ruth when it all became real. I loved seeing them grow as a couple and wanted it to work out for them just as much as they did.
For a fake relationship, this turned out to be a pretty romantic love story. I really enjoyed it and it gave me the feel good vibes like Christmas does.
I think that the lack of communication about the fact they’re in love with each other works a little better under the Claire Kent pen name because they have survival on the line. But it’s still written in such a way that it didn’t ruin it for me in the contemporary romance either. This one ended up having me a little emotional at the end.
3.5 I enjoyed this fake engagement romance set during the holidays. I liked how straightforward Ruth was and how sweet Carter was to her. Their slow build up of how they got comfortable with each other felt very organic. There was some typical miscommunication but it didn't last too long.
I have been in love with Carter Wilson since we first meant him earlier in this series. I have waited so patiently for his book. Noelle Adams did not disappoint me either. Carter's book was everything I wanted and so much more. Carter and Ruth's story for me was full of so much emotion both good and bad. The way their story is told is through Ruth's eyes. Her eyes say a lot. I loved the characters and I thought the story line was so incredibly cute and romantic at the same time. Having their story take place at Christmas makes it seem so much more magical. This book is a must read.
For two people who aren’t looking for relationships, their fake one took off pretty fast! Ruth has sworn off men but she’s willing to go on a blind date with Carter, even though she’s sure he’s not her type. Carter has a different reason for agreeing to the date...he needs his family and friends to stop feeling sorry for him. The speed of the pretend courtship did take me by surprise, but right away I loved the chemistry and friendship Ruth and Carter displayed. These two were fun and Ruth was great at getting Carter to be more carefree and less work-driven. Not having read the previous book, I might have been harsh in my apathy towards Carter’s brother Lincoln and his wife Summer, but I was quickly Team Carter and anyone who had hurt him, unintentionally or not, was not anyone I was prepared to like. Ruth’s step family was a weird dynamic for me, though. With no close friends to speak of and her mother deceased, Ruth’s only close relationship is with her younger step sister. But it was the behavior of the step father and brothers that confused and annoyed me. They were, to me, a weird prop, only existing to explain where Kayla lives. I wonder if it would have been better for Kayla to just be a friend and have Ruth had no family at all. Regardless of that complaint, Christmas Bride was an enjoyable read with a great couple and interesting storyline. Even though part of a series, it can definitely be read as a stand-alone, like it was for me. 3.75 stars
my thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the advance copy. It was a great addition to my seasonal reading list.
Another great story by Noelle Adams! A great way to end the series.
The hero was not the typical billionaire grumpy, confident, arrogant or alpha-like type of fellow. He was a billionaire, but he was extremely…. nice. He was constantly worried if the heroine was ok, happy, if she needed any help. He did not come across as weak though, he was written very well as a all-around nice guy.
The heroine was a very relatable girl. Almost too relatable. She grew up with just a single mom and was used to taking care of herself and not asking for help. She was still a likable, non-bitchy heroine, but her stubbornness got irritating at times. But it was also very realistic, I could picture tons of ppl not wanting to ask for help, etc. That, and her constant over-thinking the relationship, not believing that the hero really likes-likes her, etc. It was done very realistically (I thought).
I loved the break out into song and dance moments, made me smile. And as in each Noelle Adams story, whether I like the characters or storyline, she always writes the best sex scenes. Not dirrty and porny eyeroll-worthy, certainly not closed door… just a perfect balance of super spicy. 🔥
**My thanks to the author for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**
This is another fun and light novella that follows the same thread as the rest of the series in which they get engaged.
Carter we have met in a previous book and he is put on a blind date with Ruth after not reacting very well when his brother and best friend Summer end up together for real after he suggested that they marry for a cash injection. It is only after that he realised that he had more than friendly feeling for Summer, but it was too late.
It is Ruth that suggests the fake relationship and engagement to get their friends and families off their backs and Carter agrees to help spread the word of her business around too to help her.
Ruth brings the fun out of Carter and makes him a happier person and both are equally honest and a little blunt, but both safeguard their feeling so eventually the truth gets blurted out when they both finally realise that they want the relationship and the engagement to be real.
I received a copy of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley.
This is the fifth in a series and there were a few happy couples dotted around presumably from earlier instalments, but they weren't too intrusive. Carter and Ruth enter into a fake engagement so that Carter's friends will accept that he is over Summer and stop trying to set him up. Ruth will get referrals for her interior design business from Carter's connections. (It is a weakness of the book that we never see Ruth doing any actual work, although she is apparently very good at it).
I thought this was sweet and romantic, although I wasn't quite sure why they felt the need to get engaged (and so immediately too). Surely their purposes would have been equally well served by just dating one another. Carter's musical theatre numbers were entertaining, and the author did a good job of showing Ruth gradually being drawn in to the idea of family and belonging.
Noelle Adams knows how to string lots of emotions out of her characters and I really enjoy reading her books. This one is well written in her usual, easy to read style. It's set in a small American town and the H/h are very 'real' people that I feel readers could relate to. Ruth and Carter decide to fake a relationship to stop their family and friends worrying about them. The story is told from Ruth's POV and this author manages to nail it, as I felt I knew what Carter was thinking, just as much as I knew what Ruth was thinking. The characters are well drawn and the slow burn romance quickly morphs into something else as the weeks pass. There are lots of steamy sex scenes nicely written in a realistic and natural way. I enjoyed this book and would recommend this author to any romance lover. My thanks go to NetGalley and the publisher for gifting me the eARC in return for my honest opinion. 3.5 stars.
Ruth feels bad for Carter, after realizing he was in love with his brothers girl, even after he insists he's moved on. What's worse for him though is his closest friends and family want to set him up. Not to mention the guilt from his best friend. If only there was a way to help...
Carter needs to convince the world things have changed. That his breakdown hasn't continued to affect him and that he's more then fine. But pretending to date Ruth... That's way more complicated, and he just cannot stop.
This is a story of fake dating/fake fiances that grows after they really get to know each other. I have been waiting for Carter to get his HEA for sometime now and this story makes me smile. Soon as I started I couldn't put it down. Their chemistry, friendship and getting over their own insecurities for something real.
*Arc given to me directly from the author in exchange for my honest opinion which I gladly give.
I really enjoyed this book and the only thing that would have made it better for me was to get a bit of Carter's point of view along the way. It is not until the end that we know what he was thinking and when he knew the relationship was "real."
Ruth was a very likeable leading lady and I love that she really battled her clingy nature and wanted to have a better relationship. Only a couple times that I got annoyed with her for keeping Carter at a distance but I guess she was pretty wary from past hurtful relationships.
I have not read the book with Lincoln and Summer's story but it sounds good and I will have to read that as parts are explained in this story which only makes me want to read how they grew as a couple - married without love and now in love and expecting!!
Christmas Bride is a warm blanket of a book; you can wrap yourself up in it and feel comforted. This fifth book in the Convenient Marriages series focuses on a fake engagement between Ruth and Carter that they set up to fend off the matchmaking-minded folks who are driving Carter crazy. Being engaged will give him a respite during the holiday season, and then he and Ruth can “break up” in the new year.
Ruth is an interesting character, and she’s different from most romance heroines in that she’s abrupt, speaks her mind without a filter, and sometimes can seem abrasive. I liked that Adams took on a challenge in creating her. That said, Carter was a bit of the opposite—he’s a perfect guy. He’s rich, he’s smart, he’s good looking, and he’s not full of himself despite those first three adjectives. That made it hard for me to accept why Ruth appealed to him so much. I understood it was in part because she didn’t pander to him, but it didn’t explain why he was the one to accept the fake engagement idea when it was a toss-off, almost jokey suggestion from Ruth.
It was easy to see how Ruth moved from viewing Carter as this untouchable figure on a pedestal to someone with shades and colors and shifting aspects to his character. I wished we’d been given some of Carter’s POV, especially because it was an opportunity to know more of him after he appeared as a secondary figure in earlier books in this series. But Adams has created a light, amusing take on the fake-engagement trope in Christmas Bride, one that made me smile as I read it. In its own way, it’s a respite for readers in these times just as Ruth is Carter’s respite from the dating world!
Pretending to love someone would not be easy especially during the holidays when you have to attend a lot of family get togethers. Carter & Ruth think they can pull off the perfect plan of a fake engagement so there families and friends will keep from setting them up! But, what happens if one of them discovers they want to make it a real romance?
This is definitely a lighthearted Christmas Romance book that will put a smile on your face and you will want to grab a drink and curl up in bed and enjoy!
I received an advanced copy from NetGalley and these are my willingly given thoughts and opinions.
This book is so Noelle Adams! It is a great book following Wrong Wedding (about Lincoln and Summer). Now, it is Carter time! He is a bit jaded after his unrequited love for Summer and is not looking for love or connection at the moment, thinking it is too much for him. Ruth has made some mistakes in her love life and is only focusing on her career, but since she is kind of new in town she could do a little network and Carter can help. He needs a date to keep his family and friends away a little and she needs a friend and connections. It all starts very friendly and naive and little by little they connection gest stronger.
Reading Christmas Bride reminded me why I enjoy Noelle Adams so much. Ruth is honest, forthright, a tad of a edge to her. She's in a dating slump, and agrees to a semi blind date. She knows of Carter, the handsome, nice guy, wealthy and a touch older.
Everyone thinks Carter is heartbroken, just had his hopes dashed. He never knew Ruth until the blind date and concocts a scheme to fake date until after the holidays.
I really liked both good guy Carter (we need more good men!) and the honest Ruth. She has a good relationship with her stepsister and family does play a big part in this book. So, just say yes to this charming read.
Thank you to netgally for sending this to me for review.
You know that feeling when you have found a new favourite author well that's what I'm feeling right now. This book was exactly what I needed after reading a few duds and feeling slumpy, I'm not the biggest fan of the marriage or convience trope but this did it really well, it was so sweet and lovely and I absolutely adore Carter, I loved spending time with our main characters and watching them fall in love. Can't wait to read more in this series.
I really liked Carter from Wrong Wedding and wanted to know how things turned out for him. He is rich, he is broken-hearted, he is nice too, he is gorgeous but he is tired of everyone trying to fix him (up). He follows through with a blind date and meets Ruth. They decide to have a fake relationship and engagement that turns real. I find myself reading this trope once in awhile and I really enjoy it. Carter and Ruth have great chemistry and I really liked their HEA. Not a clean romance, definitely PG 13 with some of the steamy scenes. Some language as well.
This was so sweet. Carter and Ruth’s relationship was great from the very beginning and developed so naturally throughout the book. I don’t know if Carter could be real but if so, I want one now! He was perfect in this book and I really enjoyed revisiting Lincoln and Summer and meeting Mrs.Wilson too who is quite a character. Lovely Christmas story perfect for that time of the year.
Loved this sweet story of a fake relationship that turns real. Carter and Ruth have something special, that neither can see. When they come up with this brilliant plan to have a fake relationship, they thought it was going to make everyone around them happy. Turns out, they were really making themselves happy, but neither wants to admit it.
This one was so cute - I loved the chemistry between Ruth and Carter even if they weren't looking for a relationship. I loved that Carter could sing, open up and have fun. Ruth was the perfect balance for Carter with her ability to speak her mind. Great light-hearted story that leaves you smiling....
Carter and Ruth meet on a blind date, agree to date then pretty quickly they arrange a fake engagement to suit both of their needs. It doesn't take long for their feelings to become real . There are a few twists and turns before they can be together though. Beautiful reading.
