The fabled jade idol of Gyzia is a thing of mystery and legend. A dark wizard commissions mercenary Vetravincus and his band to recover it—to their peril...

Gritty adventure. Think 'The Witcher' and 'Conan'.

This was a non-stop, fight for your life, sword and sorcery adrenaline fest. Vetra assembled a crew of stalwart warriors to bathe an idol in magical waters for a sorcerer . Unfortunately for them, and everyone else, the idol came to life in the form of a large stone Falcon. A bloodbath ensued, and Vetra used all of his skills to escape the Valley of the Gods with his life. God vs God, God vs Warrior Priests, and the mercenary band must deal with the entire lot. Good fast pace sword and sorcery.

“Any god that accepted material wealth in return for blessings was as greedy and corrupt as any mortal man.”
“Listen to the sounds of strife amongst the children of fools...”
A fabled Jade idol, a wizard, a mercenary and his misfit team, mystery and legend..as always, Chris Turner’s fantasy-dark, grim and gritty-is overwhelming, and has a great pull to draw me in. A gripping journey through an “accursed network of temples spanning many ages that sheltered multiple, hideous, nameless gods.” A twisted fate that transforms a hunt into a terrible series of undesirable and frightening events, past the Ways of Temples. While there is a great deal of violence, Turner handles it in a way that gives it its due, but doesn't trigger. And his abilities at world building – or tearing down – are good as always. The descriptions of passages, caverns, with their horrifying images and sculptures are so realistic and vivid, I was with goosebumps all the time! Lol. Fast paced and tightly woven, this is a great story, and I’m certainly going to follow Vetra’s insidious adventures with Avenger.

I CAN FINALLY EXHALE!
You might want to take a deep breath before you start reading this extremely mind-boggling quest. Mercenaries clash with vividly described wizards, witchers, sorcerers, gods, demons, priests, monsters, beasts, imps, ... With continuous very descriptive, excessively bloody, and especially gruesome encounters you will lose all sense of time - SO HANG ON!

If you love swashbuckling fights with lots of gore, this is the book for you. PG, it can be read in a long afternoon and has the barest minimal redeeming social value.

valley of the gods by Chris turner

Not my kind of book. Too much confusion for me in the caves. I just was lost most of the time. The ending was strange. Vetras sister was not mentioned. This book was a stand alone

Great book for those who love D & D. There's lots of action and monsters, not much character development.

A blood-filled dungeon crawl with Conanesque hero Vetravincus and his three rough-and-tough fortune-seekers. The old pulp fiction style shines through. Love the characters and these types of stories. There's not a lot of them written anymore.
