This book has to be hands down the best food porn cnovel I've read in a long time. What this means is that for readers like me who adore reading loving and detailed descriptions of the cooking process and the delicious tastes of various foods, it's a non-stop feast. (The translator for the novel helpfully includes fantastic pictures and recipe links with each chapter.) On the other hand, if you're the type of skip over descriptions of food, then this book is going to bore you to tears.

There is a very sweet romance in the background, between a cheerful & creative cooking livestreamer and a naive & socially awkward military officer, and lots of fun side characters. The plot is pretty fun as well, with a futuristic sci-fi world and mecha battle against alien invaders. But ultimately, this novel can be summed up as "Chapter after chapter describing food and cooking." So set your expectations accordingly!

This is a transmigration story. So we have Ruan Tang who died in present earth and then woke up at the year 8013-ish in a body of a former film emperor. This is the story of how Ruan Tang, who doesn't have that much money, tries to navigate the new world and time that he was thrown into.

If you are a fan of books that describes delicious food and the processes used to produce mouth watering dishes, this one's for you. I kinda skipped some cooking processes because some of which are too long.😅

I did enjoy this book. It also has a cute fluffy romance but majority of the time, there are lots of talk about food, ingredients and cooking. Our main character is a phenomenal chef.

It was okay and also lots of funny scenes.👍❤

About 3.5

Very cute, the ending dragged badly though.

Also why do these transmigration novels never have the MC tell anyone about it? Lol

I can't say that this was necessarily a bad book but by about chapter 50, I was skimming a lot. The focus of this story is very definitely the cooking and the plot is a bit thin around around it. If you want to read a book that's just constantly describing how a person is making meals and how crazy delicious literally every single person in an interstellar society thinks his food is, then this is the one for you. The translator was great though and they regularly posted pictures and as much as possible, links to recipes, which I thought was a nice touch. Like Fantasy Farm, this book made me crave Chinese food, but unlike Fantasy Farm, it didn't have any really interesting catches outside of that. Tooth rotting fluff, cooking, and tropes.

From here I get kind of ramble-y and spoiler-y so read at your own risk.

Tropes include:
1. Youngest Marshall ever who pretty much instantly falls in love with the MC.
2. Absent parent(s) who try to trash their children for not being filial after using them as money farms for most of their lives.
3. A convenient person of young age to be the "child" of the main CP (also one who acts far younger than he actually is because clearly the author has never met a 12 year old)
4. Face-slapping of convenient villains with rather thin reasons for hating the MC.
5. So many descriptions of making food.
6. The few people who actually do question how the hell a guy who's been in a coma for 5 years is suddenly SUPER AMAZING at cooking get written off really quickly because otherwise the author would have to actually think about their plot gimmick and how to make it work.

The most burning question for me from this entire novel that really, I'm thinking way too hard about:
How does the holographic system know that Ruan Tang's food is so much better than everyone else's? I can buy how a system would be able to codify and transmit sight and sound. If I squint really hard touch aaaaaaaand maybe smell. But taste? How exactly does that work? I know I could probably just brush it off with "this is based 6000 years in the future" but how?
And since we're on the subject of wtfery with your world-building, how can the Academy of Sciences can somehow recreate ingredients based on descriptions in their "ancient Earth" information but somehow, not a single cookbook or cooking technique--things which already exist as easily transferrable data--make it? Even if they ditched cooking and natural ingredients for nutrient solutions for however damned long, they clearly held on to information from ancient Earth that would've been considered irrelevant in the wars and what have you that they went through. Why would they ditch everything to do with cooking if they were so desperate to hold onto their cultural roots?

You definitely need good food on hand while reading this or else you'll starve. I'm not kidding I had to order Thai and Chinese food on the days I was reading this.

The entire novel can be chronologically summarized as cooking, a lot more cooking, discover seafood, lawsuit/trial, alien insect war, cooking competition, A’Chen IS BACK, romantic survival reality show getaway, and lastly: wedding!!

Pretty entertaining and cute. Does not get weighed down by details or questions which is a big plus because it fits the tone quite well. Unique futuristic setting with fun characters. Nice concrete "they lived happily ever after" ending which is a nice change to vague open endings. Romance is not a plot point until pretty much the middle of the second half but I'm not complaining.

(Some of) My favorite chapters are 13, 92, and 110.
My favorite quotes:
“The pork skin looked very tight and elastic, and even a little sexy.”
“The moonlight elongated their shadows and it gradually overlapped with the mottled shadow of the trees until their shadows could no longer be distinguished from the other.”
“Soft and sweet was the taste of moonlight.”

Rating: 2.5/5- Uhm... this story took brain holes to a whole different level. Like read this if your common sense needs to take a break because this story is so far fetched and weird that you may find yourself scratching your head when you’re done.

Firstly, I don’t know if the author intended to convey that Chinese people eat everything that moves except cats, because this book literally did that. It became really upsetting when they started eating Zergs and then a black bear, frogs and snakes. I really felt that the author stopped thinking properly at this point. I enjoy food novels and I understand that all sorts of things can be eaten- however novels usually express preference. Like there are clearly people who like and dislike certain things that allows for variety and tolerance.

Secondly, it appears that the whole interstellar human race is Chinese, not another type of race at all as everything they eat is Chinese and no one can have differing tastes, because every single thing the MC cooks is seen is the most obscenely amazing meal that not a single person can dispute. Anyone who disputes taste or opinion is an idiot. I thought this was quite offensive because many Chinese novels do seem to be quite open minded- just not this one. I mean no such thing as preference exists and a single foodie can conquer wars, create pesticides and overtake millennia of scientific research because of some food knowledge.

The entire book made civilisation and science seem so s*upid. This book is simply a joke when it comes to making any actual sense.

Thirdly it reads for most of the part as a recipe book. You’re literally going to read ingredients and directions for making food at least 70% of this book where you may actually start skimping over chapters.

There’s really nothing good about this book because it becomes so far fetched and unrealistic and I really felt creeped out by the fact that the author pretty much wrote it as eat everything to solve your problems.
There’s only some romance in the last 20 chapters of the book and it’s not even that great. Both characters are very bland but I liked the side characters. They had potential.

Read at your own risk or if you want something to shut off your thinking capacity.

pros: great mcs with sweet relationship, also great side characters (mostly family members), great translation and writing style (usually added pics of the meals which helped visualise them a lot + recipes which is super sweet!), rly enjoyed the war arc, futuristic world was fine and the “ancient food” aspect was nice

cons: at some point the food descriptions got excessive and repetitive and i just skipped them

MC-ML power CP, dua2nya OP dibidangnya masing2.

This novel is quite entertaining. The romance is very little, slow-burn, but there are a few of fluffy moments. This is manly a culinary novel.

Although the mc's love interest was a surprise, the story was well told with great characters and delicious sounding food. Good plot even with being so light and fluffy. Recommended.

I found it fine. I like the fluff, the relationship and the food. Some parts were boring though and some were kinda unsettling (the aliens Zergs and the survival cooking)

A fun and fluffy novel about a man from current times who wakes up in someone else's body in the future. The body is a famous actor who suffered from a malicious accident and has since been dropped by his agency and lost all his money due to medical costs. Our protag was a high quality chef in normal times so decides to start a daily cooking broadcast teaching people to cook with newly 'rediscovered' ingredients that scientists have been harvesting from DNA stores, seed stores, etc. (basically in the future everyone has a bland but nutritious liquid diet).

100% recommend if only for all the recipes that the translator searched and added into their end-of-chapter notes. They didn't always find recipes for everything the character/s cooked, but most of them. And can confirm they are delicious (ˊ̥̥̥̥̥ ³ ˋ̥̥̥̥̥)

The only issue is that the story seems to go for a bit too long and then peters out. Once all the dramas and plot lines have been resolved, the main characters join a wilderness survival tv show. No drama, no real reason, they've just... Survivor-ing it up. Because they can. And then after that they get married in the space of a chapter or two, but it feels really random coming off the back of the tv show - I would have preferred the tv show never happened and we went more logically from 'all issues resolved, now we progress naturally to a wedding without filler and without rushing'.
