Advised for 3rd -5th grade readers, this book focuses on LeBron James’ rise to fame to his contribution to America receiving gold at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Although this is not the most informative book I have encountered about James, it was by far my favorite. This book was entertaining! Packed full with fun facts, timelines, photos, and an appropriate vocabulary for the intended audience, this book teaches about the life of still current basketball star LeBron James, without seeming like you are reading a score card or player information in a program. Like I mentioned, my favorite part was the variety of ways information was presented. M eyes danced over the pictures trying to see if I, who has no knowledge of basketball what so ever, could try to decipher what was going on before reading the caption. Additionally, I have no shape in admitting that I quizzed all my friends with my new found LeBron knowledge from the fact section in the back of the book. Overall, a good read. I would not advise it as the only resource to a child doing a report on LeBron James, but it is definitely a good one to read as well.
This was on the 3rd grade reading list and I had a 3rd grade class visit where the teacher said they were studying people. It tells how Lebron overcame the challenges of a single parent, moving up to seven times in a year and how moving in with a friend while in grade school gave stability to his life. How his basketball dreams gave focus to his life and kept him off the streets. It was quite well received by the class.
It was a great book that tells us all about Lebron and his way to being the best. He put in a lot of hard work. What I like best about Lebron is that he is an all around basketball player. He can do everything. When he wants to be he is a jokester, but when he is on the court he is a serious person.
