A JOB AS EASY AS SUNDAY MORNING

Guilt over past mistakes haunt former Navy SEAL Dez Rodriguez. When he’s asked to guard a pop star during a music festival on Lantern Beach, he’s all set for what he hopes is a breezy assignment.

UNTIL HE MEETS BREE JORDAN

Bree hasn’t found fame to be nearly as fulfilling as she dreamed. Instead, she’s more like a carefully crafted character living out a pre-scripted story. When a stalker’s threats become deadly, her life—and career—are turned upside down.

DANGER RISES UP THE CHARTS

From the start, Bree sees her temporary bodyguard as a player, and Dez sees Bree as a spoiled rich girl. But when they’re thrown together in a fight for survival, both must learn to trust. Can Dez protect Bree—and his carefully guarded heart? Or will their safe harbor ultimately become their death trap?

Christy Barritt is an author, freelance writer and speaker who lives in Virginia. She’s married to her Prince Charming, a man who thinks she’s hilarious—but only when she’s not trying to be. Christy’s a self-proclaimed klutz, an avid music lover who’s known for spontaneously bursting into song, and a road trip aficionado. Her current claim to fame is showing off her mother, who looks just like former First Lady Barbara Bush
When she’s not working or spending time with her family, she enjoys singing, playing the guitar, and exploring small, unsuspecting towns where people have no idea how accident prone she is.

First of all -- I just noticed the disconnect with the book title and the actual title on the cover. Had to do an info dive to see which is the right one. It is Safe Harbor and is correct on Amazon but Good Reads (where I got this pic from) has the cover with Deep Harbor on it. Just a funny little book quirk for your Tuesday. :-)

Since I missed all the other Lantern Beach series, I'm determined to keep current with this one (Lantern Beach Blackout.) Love these guys and the way they work together -- friends with a grim history but they still know how to razz each other. Great team dynamics, a stellar romance and a creepy stalker-vibe suspense sold me on this story. Getting to know these characters kept me there.

I'm usually not a fan of stardom story lines. Just can't connect at all, but I could with Bree right from the heart-pounding opening scene. Wooheee, but this author knows how to keep a reader (or listener) in a near coronary state! And there's a great balance between the suspense and romance. Neither overpowers the other which makes for a very smooth read.

Plus, there's this gripping over-arcing suspense thread that's being carried through each book. It's in the background but I'm guessing it's going to build to an exciting crescendo by the end of the series. So much to look forward to! Like Griff! I'm anxiously waiting for his story (Ripple Effect) to become available on audible.

I listened to the audible version of this book, narrated by Stacey Glemboski. Nothing like listening to an adrenaline rush of a read while counting your steps walking around the neighbourhood. Who needs a coach when you can have this kind of motivation to keep you moving? :-)

Keep those trips back to Lantern Beach coming!! Safe Harbor is the second installment in the Blackout series. This one stars Blackout team member, Dez Rodriguez. Dez is hired to protect singer, Bree Jordan when it becomes very apparent someone is after her and will stop at nothing to hurt her. After many twists and turns and wrong guesses on my part, I was completely blown away at the end when it was revealed who was after Bree!!

Although this can be read as a standalone, do yourself a favor and read the entire Lantern Beach series because this novel includes visits and updates from all the characters from Lantern Beach we as readers have grown to love.

I was given a copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.

"I'm not done with you yet."

Lantern Beach's inaugural off season music festival was supposed to draw visitors to the island during a time of the year when tourism lagged behind . . . however, things rapidly digressed when shots were fired during a premier event, exposing a young pop star as the likely target. Why would anyone want to kill Bree Jordan?

Dez Rodriguez moved quickly to pull his client out of harm's way. As a former Navy SEAL, Dez was acquainted with being in the line of fire, but this time he was being paid to keep Bree out of it. As Dez and his fellow security team members partner with local law enforcement, it appears that many of those who appear to be friends with the popular recording artist are in fact out for their own gain. Spending time with the lovely celebrity should have convinced Dez to maintain fierce professional boundaries, but there are moments when . . . he could swear that she considered him to be her "safe harbor".

SAFE HARBOR is book 2 of this action--packed romantic suspense series starring Navy Seals. Dez thought he'd landed an easy gig acting as security for a beach concert--until all havoc breaks loose, and secrets the star didn't even know came to light. It soon becomes obvious that someone is out for murder--but who? And why?

If you like romantic suspense starring military heroes, you will love this spin-off series from Ms. Barritt's popular Lantern Beach. The who-dun-it kept me guessing until the end.

I was given a copy free. All opinions are my own.

Dez Rodriguez, former Navy SEAL & current member of an elite security team called Blackout (made up of his fellow SEAL teammates and headquartered on the island of Lantern Beach, NC), is a man with “muscles that could be seen for miles, and a smile that could be seen even farther.” I’ll give you a moment to swoon appropriately at that description … He’s protective, sometimes broody, prone to long-held feelings of guilt & a sense of duty, but also bighearted and a loyal friend. His reputation as a player may be exaggerated but he’s definitely good at flirting when it counts.

Bree Jordan is a pop star whose career has skyrocketed, though she disagrees with many of her manager’s decisions. She wants to sing her own songs – songs with depth, not the ‘bubble gum’ fluff that is responsible for her rise to fame. Her reputation as a spoiled, rich starlet may also be exaggerated, but she definitely knows how to throw her wealth around when it counts. She lives under a lot of pressure to keep up a certain image but really just wants to be herself.

The tension between these two vivid characters keeps sparks flying throughout this quick-read story. Between their definite romantic attraction to each other and the high-stakes suspense that has them – and readers – on their toes from start to finish, the electricity crackles like a summer storm off the ocean. And buckle up for that ending – wow!

I loved getting to know Dez more – my interest in him had been piqued in Dark Water and I was curious about his backstory. It was nice to see a couple of peeks into the Cuban culture that gave him part of his heritage, and I also enjoyed seeing him directly in that role of protector that he makes so swoony. Bree became a favorite character, and her character growth throughout the novel was done really well.

Bottom Line: A great read from beginning to end, with a yummy hero & an engaging heroine, a charming island with a host of characters and intriguing backstories, a team of former SEALs with an unsolved mystery between them, and a message of finding your own worth and staying true to who you were created to be. Definitely recommended for romantic suspense fans!

Second in a new-ish series by Christy Barritt, the Lantern Beach Blackout series. These are about the 4 former Special Ops guys, Navy SEAL's, who are on Lantern Beach forming a new security company called Blackout. Each book is on a different member of the team, this one focusing on Dez Rodriguez. Easy reads for me, and I always enjoy her books. Looking forward to reading the next on in June, if I'm able to obtain using the Kindle Owner's lending library. So many books, so little time!

Another wonderful addition to the Lantern Beach world! The mystery was interesting and well-written. I didn't discover the bad guy before Barritt showed me, which I was a little upset and a little excited for. I liked seeing Bree as a normal person even though she was a spoiled superstar from Hollywood. I like the bodyguard aspect too. Of course, they were going to fall in love. Very obvious. I did enjoy seeing Cassiday, Ty, and other characters from previous Lantern beach novels make an appearance. Overall, Safe Harbor was a delightful way to spend a couple of hours. Can't wait for book three and four. Coming Soon!

Wow, just LOVED Dez's and Bree's story, what a ride!!

Didn't expect this story to grab my attention the way it did, but really loved how things played out and had NO idea who the culprit was, but man there were a lot of corrupt people surrounding Bree in her music career! Also love that Cassidy and the other friendly characters play a brief role in this story.

"He never thought he would feel this smitten with somebody. It was a word that his mom liked to use, but it felt appropriate for this situation. Bree had captured all his thoughts and filled his desires for the future in a way he'd never experienced before."

Bree is in constant danger and being threatened the whole time, but she manages to do the right thing all while Dez is protecting her. It turns out that even though Dez is a true blue hero, he becomes kind of clumsy around Bree which only makes the story better. GREAT ending to this one also, GREAT writing for this incredible series, only wishing the books were longer! I'm having trouble deciding what to read next after loving this one!

I received a free ebook. I was not required to write a positive review. The thoughts and comments are my own.

In this second installment of Christy Barritt's Lantern Beach Blackout Mysteries, the Private Security Team Blackout, located on the Outer Banks of NC, take on the task of extra security during a music festival. Dez is assigned to protect Bree, a pop star singer, who unbeknownst to the team, already has had a stalker and death threats. Bree and Dez immediately jump to conclusions about the other. Bree sees him as a playboy who just loves 'em and leaves 'em, and Dez sees her as a spoiled rich celebrity who expects to be adored. But at her concert, a shooter begins shooting, wounding band members and her fans, and Bree fears for her life. As Dez and the team work to find the culprit and to keep her safe, Dez and Bree begin to see how wrong they were about each other. I love getting back to Lantern Beach and catching up with characters from previous books. Although it is nice to have read the previous Lantern Beach Series, this series can stand on it's own, as all the characters are appropriately introduced. Action, romance, murder, and suspense all blend together for an exciting read.

Looking for Safety

Another nail biting, great story by one extremely talented author! The Blackout Team is comprised of former Navy Seals who know how to handle themselves and others in the midst of their worst battles/threats. They are a force to be careful of if you are on the wrong path. Bree is in Lantern Beach, NC., to give a concert; then have a long vacation away from the constant business of performing all the time!

But someone is out for her blood literally. She has received threats for quite sometime. In the middle of her concert, gunfire erupts from the ocean no less. One of her band members takes a bullet. The nightmare has begun for real. Bree hires Dez, one of the Blackout guys, as her body guard. The mystery is bigger than anyone can even guess!

Popstar Bree Jordan has a stalker. She's in Lantern Beach as the headliner for the First Annual Lantern Beach Music Festival when things take a serious turn. Shots are fired during her set. Blackout team member Dez Rodriguez is her bodyguard for the concert and gets her to safety. But with the stalker escalating their attacks, Bree hires him to be her full-time bodyguard. Can he keep her safe or will this stalker get their wish to end the rising starlet's life?

Safe Harbor was so good. It's one of my recent favorites from Christy Barritt. I love books that follow celebrities, so that just added to my enjoyment. The suspense was high and the mystery was great. It was full of twists and turns. I never knew what would happen next and didn't figure out the culprit until the shocking reveal. I'm can't wait to check out Griff's story next!

These stories are much more stand-alone than the other Lantern Beach series that I've read. Not everything was explained in the first book of this series, but that storyline is pretty translucent in this book.

But this book has GREAT characters. Bree is a popular singer being stalked. And her counterpart, Dez, is a security guard with the Blackout team. I have to confess, I didn't see Dez as a viable love interest. He seemed rather aloof and appeared to be more of a player. And he thought Bree was a diva.

As the truth is revealed and the interest between the two escalates, so does the danger, going from a simple stalking to a full-out, life-at-stake targeting.

I would consider this story the weakest that I've read so far of Christy Barritt's Lantern Beach world, but it still deserves 5 stars! And that's telling. I don't give 5 stars easily!

If you are a famous singing star you've got it made, right? This latest book in the Lantern Beach series shows just how fleeting - and possibly dangerous - fame can be. Stalkers, a dead body, and mysterious texts/social media posts - can Bree and her bodyguard Dez figure out these puzzles and who they can trust before Bree becomes the next victim. This one kept me guessing until the very end!! Another great story with twists, turns, and appearances by some of our favorite Lantern Beach characters! I received a preview copy but all opinions are my own.

What Is Safe?

What is safe, really? For some it is a roof over their heads and food to eat. For some it is money in the bank. For some it is being surrounded by loving family and friends. But where is safety when you are onstage singing and bullets start flying? Where is safety when almost everyone you know could be suspect? Where is safety when you find your heart falling for someone who should be off limits? Ms. Barritt has, again, written a thriller of a book populated with believable characters in a setting that calls my heart. You can’t go wrong here!

Fast-moving with danger lurking everywhere, it seems—isn’t Lantern Beach a safe haven? Pop singer Bree Jordan’s concert ended tragically, and now she must fight to stay alive. With the Blackop crew guarding her, she should be safe, right? Her bodyguard Dez Rodriguez faces the challenges, but the risk keeps increasing. How can they keep the star from harm? Plenty of suspense, and I never guessed the guilty party. Another Christy Barritt winner! I received a copy from the author. All opinions are my own.

Hold on, Lantern Beach fans both old and new. Christy Barritt's latest Blackout edition outpaces your reading speed and efforts to guess Bree Jordan's deadly stalker. Action-packed pages will produce enjoyable reading time.

Dez Rodriguez leads her security team after an attempt at Bree's music festival performance. Danger and sparks fly quickly between the two while law enforcement rushes to help.

I received a complimentary copy of the book without obligation. This review is my opinion.

Music and suspense!

The SEALs are back with a new client. There is violence, mystery, stalker, and corruption. Many secrets are made known and a new romance is found. I love this island co,munitions and the blending of action, military and romance.

The overall story can be read as a stand-alone, but some of the underlying items would not be followed as easily if the first book was not read. Can’t wait to see the next SEAL find his HEA and what adventure the teams finds themselves on next!

Bree a well known pop star, coming to Lantern Beach for a concert. This was a smaller event than her others, and then she would have some down town. Before the concert ended shots were fired, and that was the start of Bree learning what her Business manager was really like. The endless list of people he had unpaid and mismanagement of funds for his own gain. Who was her real friends, she could think of one or two maybe, family said good bye to when when she left to follow her dream.
The plot was good, got to be a little long before winding it up. Staying here in Lantern Beach will give Dez and her time to get to know one another.
Good story giving a look into the life of a singer.

Former Navy SEAL Dez Rodriguez has what should be an easy assignment: guard singer Bree Jordan during a concert on Lantern Beach.

This easy task turns deadly when a shooter aims for Bree. His temporary assignment turns a bit more permanent—and he is not thrilled about it. Babysitting a spoil "star" isn't what he signed up for.

Could he be wrong and too hasty in his judgment? And who wants Bree dead?

More beach drama

Lantern Beach appears to be home for many mysteries, but the trusty police chief , Cassidy Chambers, manages to keep the island afloat. More to come. In my opinion it helps to start with the first series and read the books in order. It seems that each book shares some past characters while introducing new ones along the way. Christy Barritt knows how to twist a plot & hold the reader's interest.

Bree is a hit pop singer and someone is out to stop her. As she is on stage at a Lantern Beach concert gun shots ring out and Dez is hit in the shoulder but he protects his charge from any harm. One of her band members takes a hit to the gut and is hospitalized. The threats and gun fire continue throughout the story and figuring out who is behind it isn't proving an easy thing.

Clean action packed romance.

Safe Harbor by Christy Barritt is the perfect read for anyone who loves romantic suspense. Dez is a former Seal with regrets. When he gets to help protect a pop star from a stalker, they both get more than they expected. Ms Barritt is the master of clean romance with suspense that never ends. I love this whole series! I received a digital copy of this book from the author with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.

Bree is a pop star who has a stalker threatening to kill her. At a concert in Lantern Beach, someone shoots at her and injures four people. Dez Rodriguez, her bodyguard, wants to help keep her safe while getting to the bottom of who is behind everything. Can the person be discovered and caught before the worst happens? Can Bree and Dez ignore the attraction that is growing between them?

A suspenseful and enjoyable story.

Dez is working security for pop star Bree as she headlines at Lantern beach festival. Suddenly, shots ring out. One of the band members is hit. Is this her stalker or is someone else determined to kill her? And what will they stop at to make their point.
Another fantastic book from Christy Barritt. Exciting enough to hold your interest from start to finish, but lighthearted enough to thoroughly entertain

If you love romance, you will love this book!

The romance in this book is so very well written and what is so refreshing is that you are so captured and fall in love without all the quick trip to bed. This is what love ought to be like! And even though it is leading up to action, mystery, and suspense of a good black ops thriller, this is still just a great romance novel. Looking forward to Book 3!

I had an ARC copy of this book, but this is my voluntary and honest opinion. Christy does a fantastic job of keeping you turning pages and on your toes guessing who is behind the mysterious happenings. Her characters and their problems are very believable and interesting. She keeps you eager for the next book in the series, but they could all be read independently.

Stage fright

A kind and thoughtful girl who just happens to be a star comes to Lantern Beach and her life implodes! Every page seems to bring another disaster but the security firm of Blackout, along with Cassidy, give their all to protect Bree. When I read Christy Barritt's stories I can hear the waves crash and feel the wind on the beach as I enjoy the words she writes and the characters she builds.

I had a huge issue with this particular story. Generally, true born again Christians do not become famous singers. They are asked to compromise too much. Believe me, as a music major in college I know this to be true. Same thing with the other story line with Joey darling. It just doesn’t happen. But the story in general was well written and I enjoyed reading it just the same.

I absolutely loved this book. The characters really come to life in this book. The reader gets to know them on a personal level. There is a lot of suspense which keeps you wanting to keep reading. Genuine love begins to develop between the two main characters. This is a definite must read book in this series!

Book One of the Lantern Beach Blackout series was so good, I found myself reading the rest of Christy Barritt's series. Book Two, Safe Harbor was even more fun than the first one, but I love a great bodyguard story. Dez and Bree were well-drawn, enjoyable characters to read. Overall, I appreciated the family-like closeness of the small group. Thumbs up!
