Secrets have a funny way of bubbling to the surface when you least expect them to and these are the deepest darkest of all. I buried them in the past with my husband and any hope we had of a happily ever after.

But now he’s back. Only the sweet and funny sailor I married has been replaced with a political mercenary.

Can I trust him with the secrets of our shared past? I guess there’s only one way to find out…

I was lucky enough to read The Senator's Secret and Caught by the Chief of Staff back to back and I think it enhanced my reading experience but I can also say they’re both solid standalones in one world. This is my first experience with this author and I really liked her style and voice. It was an easy read but not simple. There’s depth to the storyline and layers to the characters that grow thru the story. There’s a bit of angst and some suspense and plenty of heat. Nothing was a total surprise, but the story was nowhere near predictable. This was a really great start to another author journey for me. I can’t wait to get to her backlist (little by little) and read more in this series!

If anyone follows the blog and/or my reviews, it’s no secret that I kind of adore Jennifer Rebecca’s style of writing. I love the sarcastic, witty humor. I love the dark, twisty suspense/thriller element in her suspense books (even the lighter suspense books). It’s uniquely her, and it totally fits me as a reader. It may not be your thing (and that’s OK), but I connected with her style right away and wholeheartedly recommend her books to anyone who has similar tastes.

Caught by the Chief of Staff is the second book in Jennifer Rebecca’s Presidential Affair series and absolutely can be read as a stand-alone title. However, being the lover of her written words, I will recommend reading them all in order because I feel you will get a richer experience. But it is not necessary. This is Rick and Cara’s story. For die-hard fans like myself, you’ll love the cameos of beloved characters returning to add to the fun.

NICUnurse’s Rating: For me, it’s hard to not love one of this author’s books. I usually devour them in anywhere from 3-5 hours (depending on the number of interruptions I must endure). And I should know better than to start one at bedtime. Yeah…I didn’t go to sleep before 4 am! Woops! Caught by the Chief of Staff is full of suspense, angst, and sexy times. If those elements (plus a hefty dose of cursing) are not your thing, you won’t care for this book. Otherwise, it’s definitely one you can totally get lost in and forget about the quarantine most of us are still enduring. And if you’re like me and sometimes have had a hard time losing myself in a story, let me reassure you that I had no issues getting lost in this world full of suspense!

I give Caught by the Chief of Staff by Jennifer Rebecca 4.5 out of 5 stars!

Rick, Presidential Chief of Staff, former Navy SEAL, ex-husband. Cara, stylist to the FLOTUS, single-mother, keeper of secrets...

These two together...fireworks. Cara and Rick were married in Vegas and while deployed, Cara fled. Rick has never understood what happened and why Cara left him. So imagine his surprise when he runs into Cara almost 9 years later, with her 8 year old daughter. To say that meeting was explosive is putting it lightly.

This story takes us through a second chance romance between Cara and Rick. Secrets will be revealed, hearts will break, and get put back together, and the suspense will keep you on the edge of your seat! This book provides the perfect blend of snarky humor, intrigue, steam, and great characters! I loved it! I think this is my favorite book by Jennifer Rebecca! (Sorry Trent and Shelby)

Do I recommend, heck yes! Will I keep reading? Yes, additionally, I will probably pester the hell out of Jennifer Rebecca while waiting! This series has been great and I can't wait for the last book.... I have my guesses on who is behind the secrets, but I will never spoil! Grab this series and start reading!

Rick and Cara have a history they were married and have a child. Rick wants a chance to be with both of them but Cara keeps pushing him away and he doesn't know why. Cara has a secret that she must keep in order to keep those she cares about safe. She thought she was done getting threats but they have started again and this time involve her daughter. Rick knows Cara is keeping something from him but he is biding his time before he forcing her to tell him. Time runs out when their daughter is in danger. Will Cara tell him everything? Can they find a way back to each other?

This is a great story that will have you on the edge of your seat wondering what will happen next. The chemistry between them is blazing hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

This was a great follow up to the first book in the series. I really like the side characters in the book and am glad to see more of Jake and Grace. Loved Rick, he made the book palatable but I didn’t much care for Cara. She was a pill. I’m glad Wes told her what a pill she was. She needed to hear it. Can’t wait to Jules book.

Rick is the Presidential Chief of Staff, former Navy SEAL, ex-husband. Cara is the stylist to the FLOTUS, single-mother, and the keeper of secrets. Cara and Rick got married in Vegas while he was deployed and Cara left without an explanation as to why. Rick and Care see each other 9 years later and lets just say fireworks go off. This story is a second chance romance between Cara and Rick. Secrets will be revealed, hearts will break, and will get put back together, and the suspense will keep you on the edge of your seat! Great addition to this series and can't wait for book 3 in this series to come out.

This is Rick & Caras story. We were introduced to them in the first book in the series. Again there's some suspense regarding her disappearance from his life all those years ago and we are feed bit by bit her reasons. I did feel it dragged on in this regard. There is lots of hotness & sexual tension between this couple Plus there's a secret he knows nothing about which causes a lot of friction.
An enjoyable read.

This is my first book from this author and I loved it. This story is not the first in the series but can be read as a stand alone though I think it would have enhanced my experience if I had. Cara is the Stylist to Grace, the First lady. Rick is the President Chief of staff. Cara and Rick were married 9 years ago, but are now divorced after Cara left Rick without a word while he was deployed. But all is not as it seems. There are twists, secrets, lies, and enemies. I loved it and will read the series.

I went back and forth so many times while reading this on whether or not I loved or hated it. I was so frustrated at times but then I realized this is why Jennifer Rebecca is such a good author! I kept wondering what was going to happen next.

This is so hard not to read in one sitting. It is so suspenseful!!! At the end I was dying to see what would happen.

SPOILER:

Omg and I cried. Did anyone else cry? Tell me I’m not the only one. When she was talking to her daughter at the end??? Omg I was hysterically crying with my tissue box. That was so touching! Way to drag the emotions right out of me geez lol ah it was hard and I really thought it would end badly.

Aw and they’re so cute this book was adorable. It started out with Rick hating her and then by the end you love him and are rooting for them to be together.

Freaking LOVE this book! And I got married in Vegas! This whole book just made me smile so much.

Great suspense and romance when Rick and Cara find themselves back together after being divorced for nine years when their daughter gets kidnapped. Rick never knew about his daughter until recently but it all comes out that Cara received a called from some unknown person threatening to kill Rick if she did not divorce him so she did to save his life. Rick at the time was in the military and the threats came from someone that knew where Rick was at the time. This story has some twist and turns and the person who was making the threats was a surprise.

Ever since I read about Rick in the first book of the series, I knew this book was going to be the most interesting and I was not disappointed.
Rick and Cara have a very tense scene in the first book where we discover that they are married, and Rick discovers that Cara has hidden from him that he had a daughter, Rachel.
The reunion is tense as well as passionate, and that is although Rick is hurt with Cara for everything she has done, he cannot stay away from her, so they continue to sleep together, but at the end, when he asks her for her reasons to leave him, she refuses to answer him, so he always leaves after he finishes taking a piece of Cara’s heart with him each time.
Both characters are condemned to spend time together, first bc of their daughter and bc of their friends. Cara is Grace’s friend, her stylist, and Rick is Jake’s Chief of Staff.
To further complicate the plot, Rachel is kidnapped, Rachel blames herself and Rick finally discovers the truth.
I❤️these series.

“You know, if you would have just told me, I probably could have forgiven you. But I can’t keep doing this.” “I know,” I whisper into the night, but he’s already gone.

“I hate how much I want you, and I want to hate you. And I can’t seem to stop doing either.” And then he’s gone.

“This was a mistake.” “Don’t say that,” he says as he stands up to walk around the bed to me. “This is always a mistake,” I tell him sadly. “I think you should go now.” “I can’t stay away from you,” he growls. “I guess you’ll just have to try harder.”“I see you’re scared, and you want to run, but know this,” he warns. “If you do, if you run from me again, I’ll just have to track you down and fuck it out of you. And I will find you. I have more resources, and I’m not tied down to an enlistment contract this time.”

I liked Ricks and Caras story! The suspense plot wasn't necessary for me (I still don't know for sure why all of this happened 🤔😅🙈), so there could have been other reasons why they separated... but that's ok.

It was awesome to meet Grace and Jake again because I really love them and wanted to know more about their future together. ❤️

So, Jules and Black next (hopefully 😉) and I still have Wes' story to read...
