Romancing destiny one moment at a time.

When Veteran Blake Cornelis visits his great grandfather’s Civil War grave, he is whisked back in time to Gettysburg, where his ancestor was a hero. His mission—to preserve his family's decorated military record, because his cousin, Evan, is determined to steal the Cornelius heroism for his own family’s ancestry. Fighting Evan is demanding and requires unremitting vigilance. Fortunately, the gods have sent Blake an exquisite guardian angel to help him.

Ariel, a time travel Protector, is tasked on this journey with safeguarding Blake, and she vows to do that—at any cost. But the attractive hero from Wisconsin is unlike others she’s been assigned to protect. The intense attraction between them casts them into deadly peril on the battlefield.

Blake and Ariel are sent into other wartimes, and as secrets unfold they realize they must sacrifice all to conquer his evil cousin, for the Cornelis honor is not all that is at stake. Time WARped by Valerie J Clarizio
Time travel paranormal romance.
Blake visits his great grandfather’s Civil War grave and he suddenly finds himself is his family’s history trying to prevent an intentional change but a malevolent cousin.

Interesting premise. The heroine and hero travel back in time once a year to save the future for a generational event well past their future. The two fall in love on their adventures but don’t live in the same time. Hopeless? Of course not. Bloody war scenarios mixed with passion and hope.

This is an entertaining, well written, fast paced, steamy, time travel romance. It has likable, engaging, mature characters, a heart warming romance, a wonderful sense of family, and a happily ever after ending. I enjoyed the military theme and the tribute paid to the amazing men and women who serve our country. I am looking forward to reading the future entries in Ms. Clarizio's "Preserver and Protector" series .
I received an ARC of this novel, which I thoroughly enjoyed, and this is my honest review.

Time WARped is an intriguing time-travel romance by USA Today Bestselling Author Valerie J. Clarizio.

It’s the first Veteran’s Day since the death of his father, and war veteran hero, Blake Cornelis, has given a speech at the annual town celebration. Afterward, when paying his respects to his ancestors at the graveyard, he’s unexpectedly swept back in time to Gettysburg in a battle during the Civil War.

Much to his surprise, a beautiful woman who he’d noticed while making his speech earlier was suddenly defending him with a sword. After he’s safe, Ariel eventually explains to him that she’s his Protector and Blake is what’s called a Preserver, someone who has to make sure that history can’t be rewritten, otherwise his family’s acts of heroism would no longer be on record while his malicious cousin, Evan Dupont, could steal the honor that’s been bestowed to Blake’s family line.

As they continue to interact each time they’re thrown back together, Blake and Ariel can’t resist their growing attraction, even though it’s not allowed as it interferes with their primary objective of sustaining the factual events of the past. Their mission is continuous since there is always a chance of history being altered, and not just because they need to preserve Blake’s family heritage but also America and its future. As Blake and Ariel’s love continues to survive despite their continuous separations through time, will they be punished for defying the rules?

This is such a well-thought-out story, with an intriguing storyline which makes you want to keep reading until the final page. Add in the steamy romance and you have a fabulous romantic suspense filled with history, inventive time-travel, and an amazingly strong heroine and hero who you can’t help but root for as you turn each page. I give it five stars!

When it comes to time travel, everyone knows that what happens in any time or era affects everything that comes after. What about before?
Ariel is a Protector. Her job, to safeguard the men and women who are Preservationists, those who are to keep evil time travelers from changing history. Her job was inherited from her mother and her mother's mother before her. She knew of her destiny before her role was thrust upon her.
Ariel's latest Preserver, the man she is to protect, had no such training. When his father died, and it was his role to carry on, Blake was totally unprepared. Just as unpredicted and unpredictable, are their feelings for each other.
With a touch of The Notebook, this couple is sometimes not in the same year.
Travel seems to be to different wars, on Memorial Day weekend.
The scene setting is richly detailed, the writing makes us feel directly in line with the action. The main characters are likable and well developed. The romance is swoon-worthy.
Will they be able to keep history intact while acknowledging their feelings for each other even if their future, and so much more, depends on them keeping their focus on their job?
This is only the beginning!

Time travel, the butterfly effect, protectors and preservers of history as it was originally played out--or was it? If you're a fan of the Back to the Future film trilogy, you'll appreciate how this book takes a mind-bending dive into pivotal American war events as they pertain to one particular family tree and its valorous and not-so-valorous branches when dark forces conspire to change the past and influence the future.

Engaging, mature characters in a fast-paced, steamy love affair across time and place add to a story celebrating America's veterans. Memorial Day anchors the events and anchors Blake and his family line. I applaud the author for her research into history and the mind-boggling mechanics of time travel. This is clearly the start of a series because without preservers and protectors, history is always in danger of being altered. An enjoyable and thought-provoking read. I received an ARC from the author, but this is my honest opinion.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review and absolutely loved it. It's Veteran's Day and Veteran Blake Cornelis is visiting an old graveyard to place flags on his ancestors graves after delivering a speech. This is something he's done every Veteran's Day for years but little does he know things are going to change this year, the first Veteran's Day after the death of his father. While he's at the graveyard, he feels a sensation of what he thinks may be an upcoming storm but soon finds himself in the middle of a battle in the Civil War. He meets a woman there named Ariel who tells him that he's a Preserver, someone who must preserve the history of his family which has a long line of heroism. He received the gift after his father died who received his from his father but Blake was never prepared for the job. The person trying to change history is none other than his cousin, Evan, who wants to change it so his line of the family is the one full of heroes.

Ariel is a Protector. It's her job to protect the Preservers of history. But she's drawn to Blake in a way she's never been drawn to her other Preservers. And Blake is equally drawn to Ariel. He hasn't been this drawn to a woman since his wife died years ago. As they meet year after year, Blake and Ariel give into their attraction defying the Powers that Be since it's against the rules. But things soon start happening that may just play in their favor.

Well-written with characters you'll love to get know, this book is a wonderful read. It's intriguing and keeps you engaged through to the end. I was drawn into the story as I went through everything with Blake and Ariel. The time-travel aspect is thrilling keeping you aware of the butterfly effect where one little change can affect everything for years to come. That's where the Preservers come into play. I enjoyed this book immensely and am really hoping there's another book to come. I highly recommend Time WARped.

Time WARped is a time-travel adventure wrapped around a love story between its two main characters: Ariel, a time-travel Protector tasked with guarding Blake against all danger. He has been whisked back in time from a portal next to his grandfather’s civil war grave all the way to Gettysburg and is the Preserver of history and thus of truth, battling against those who would pervert it (Evan Dupont and his daughter Raven.)

Theirs is an ongoing mission, as history is always in danger of being altered—not only the legacy of Blake’s family but also the past of America and its future. Blake and Ariel’s go through the ongoing suffering of being separated in time. Their love develops in brief encounters to fight for their mission followed by the pain of parting again, hoping to hold on a bit longer next time, next leap on Memorial day.

“If he had just held off on letting the nurse stitch him up, maybe he could have bought more time with her. At least enough time to say a proper goodbye. He’d play his cards better next time. Would there be a next time?”

Is the pain they feel at heart the punishment of the gods for defying the rules—or do the gods want them to galvanize a lasting love through their call to mission, working together to preserve history and protect each other?

Disclosure: I learned of this author's work when we were both invited to take part in the same boxed set.

A fascinating time travel story that takes a war veteran, Blake Cornelis--who'd just given a speech on Veterans Day and was now paying his respects to his ancestors, and the forgotten, with a flag to mark their graves.

He feels a blast of heat and is tossed into the fury of a major battle in Gettysburg during the Civil War. With no idea how he got there and his own life at risk, he joins the foray to protect himself and his great grandfather's grave.

A beautiful woman, whom he'd spotted at his speech only hours before, was wielding a sword, defending him as well as chasing off the foe. Hidden away and in a moment of silence, Ariel explains that she is his Protector and he is the Preserver, who must preserve the past--or history would be rewritten, his family's act of heroism tarred, and his evil cousin would steal the honor bestowed to them.

The story is a page-turner. Beautifully written, with an amazing romantic love story, a lesson in history, and so much more.
I highly recommend!

Time WARped was an enticing read and kept you questioning what would happen next and wanting to read more. In this story about time travel, destiny, and family, a forbidden romance sparks between a protector and preserver. It was very detailed especially given the travel through historical and war events, enough that you can visualize the scenes of these wars. However I wish there would have been a little more backstory or history about these preservers and protectors who get powered from and unknown higher power/god because at times it was a little confusing to understand. This is understandable though given that the characters, Ariel and Blake dong fully understand these roles and the rules they are supposed to follow. Amazing book Valerie Clarizio, a cross between a fantasy and a romance novel! I would definitely recommend this book!

I just finished reading Time WARped and LOVED it!! I enjoy time travel romance, mostly because I love history and have always wanted to travel back in time. I met Valerie at RAGT in Cincinnati and asked her about her books and she told me about this one. I'm SO glad she did. I got pulled into the story right away and didn't want to put it down until I finished reading it, then was sorry to see it end. I'm hoping she writes more books connected to this one. It was different and so good!!

*****. Lies, Deception, Protectiveness...and Love

The story begins at a cemetery, where veteran Blake Cornelis makes a very touching Memorial Day speech to families of soldiers. Also present is his daughter, Second Lieutenant Eva Cornelis, soon to be deployed. With his wife gone, Eva’s departure makes him feel particularly emotional. Still, he is certainly proud of his family’s ancestry; his Great-grandfather, Charles, was a true war hero back during the US Civil War, taking a bullet to save the officer he fought under. Unfortunately, Blake also had a cousin at that time who was far less than heroic. He helped run a Union prison for jailed Confederates and was so cruel to the inmates, he was considered to be a war criminal. Evan, Blake’s nasty, modern cousin is the descendent of Edgar, the war criminal.

Like he does each year, Blake goes through a tunnel at the cemetery to give respect to his great grandfather’s grave. But in a flash, his world is turned upside down. Suddenly, he’s back during the Civil War in the midst of a battle and is wounded. Excellent, detailed descriptions of the horrors of war abound, as we go from calm and serene to highly intense action. When a young lad runs by crying out, “We need to find Evan and keep him from changing history!” Blake’s world is forever changed. What in the world does THAT mean? Evil Evan is there?

Wounded, confused, he’s saved by an “angel.” A woman dressed in a man’s Union uniform – who turns out to be his “protector,” there to help Blake keep his family’s history intact. Her name is Ariel, she’s beautiful, kind…. and completely desirable. Their instant mutual attractions spark as Blake learns how his time-traveling father must have passed on his Preserver status to him and Ariel was a Protector, there to help him. Falling in love with each other, they began a passionate relationship, yet are constantly separated by having to return to each one’s different modern age year.

Blake also learns how, no matter the time period (Teddy Roosevelt’s Rough Riders against the Spanish, WW 1, and the Korean War), he seems to run into Ariel. But as Evan also keeps cropping up to create havoc, Blake wonders if he and Ariel can sustain a lasting connection with so many time-traveling complications. And when generational twists come on top of Blake’s and Ariel’s issues, what will be the outcome? Bottom line? Can true love survive all of this?

Very well written, IMO, its unique time traveling sequences, touching characters, and plot twists makes for a very engaging story. Highly recommended.

Blake Cornelis, a retired military officer and widower, has served for the past 8 years as his county’s veteran services officer. One of his duties is to give a speech to commemorate the fallen on Memorial Day. After his speech, he takes small American flags and proceeds to the cemetery to place them on the graves of men who also served their country over the decades. He arrives to find the cemetery for fallen Civil War soldiers in disrepair and must make his way inside through a tunnel created by intermingling branches and vines. He places his flags, then turns to leave. A bolt of lightning follows him and he rushes into the tunnel to avoid the fire he is sure will follow. But he gets a surprise. A blast of air picks him up and tosses him thru the tunnel leaving him lying on the ground. A cannon booms and, as Blake looks up, he finds himself in a midst of a terrible battle and, to make matters even more confusing, he’s wearing the uniform of a Union soldier and carrying a musket!

Thus, begins Blake’s journeys through time. On this first excursion, he meets Ariel who tells him that he is a Preserver and that she is a Protector. As a Preserver, Blake is charged with making sure the history of his family is not changed and Ariel is there to protect him so he can follow through with this task. But who is trying to change history? It’s his distant cousin, Evan, who in present time is incarcerated in prison, but who also has the power to time travel. Evan wants to change history so that his branch of the family is the one that is seen as valorous, not Blake’s. During his Civil War adventure, Blake foils Evan’s plans and, in doing so, is shot in the arm. Ariel takes him to the infirmary where the musket ball is removed. During their time together, Blake feels a strong connection to his beautiful Protector and is disappointed when, as suddenly as he was hurled into the 1860s, he is hurled right back to his present time.

Time WARped is an exciting, fast-paced, journey through American battlefields and is also a romantic adventure. Blake and Ariel, star-crossed lovers, can only meet when they are hurtled through time. After their missions are complete, they return to their own lives which are, unfortunately, years apart. Time WARped is the first novel in Author Clarizio’s new series and I look forward to many more Blake/Ariel adventures in the future. Highly recommended for lovers of military history, time travel, and steamy romance.
